Really pleasantly surprised by this pizza spot! We were coming down from the Redwoods and saw this place on Yelp. Thankfully, we decided to call an hour ahead. The wait was around 1 hr 15 min when we called around 6 PM, which gave us enough time to check in to our Airbnb and grab some groceries next door. We ordered the Garden Grove vegan pizza. It was my first time trying a vegan pizza, and I thought it was delicious. The pizza was hot when we arrived, the crust was thin, pizza was loaded with toppings, and was flavorful and filling. So this place is always packed opens at 3 PM because you know people don't want pizza at lunch, what kind of psychopath would want pizza at lunchtime you know. The normal wait time for a pizza here is one to two hours, sometimes even three hours to get a pizza to go. This last visit it was a two hour wait so what I did was pay damn near double and just buy eight slices of the pizzas that were made to be reheated. Instead of paying about 30 bucks for a pizza I ended up paying over $50. That's not even what the complaint is about the cashier was about to give us eight plates for eight slices of pizza when I wanted to take my pizza home. While we were waiting my friend and I got two beers and we were finishing our beers. While we're drinking, our beers here comes the pizza and two small pizza boxes. When the person giving us our pizza boxes saw us drinking our beers he asked do you want me to keep these pizza boxes in the warmer to which my friend and I both replied no thank you we're going to eat some. To which the worker responded extremely rudely and unprovoked wow if you're going to eat it here why would you waste the boxes? Maybe because my friend and I don't wanna eat a whole pizza. We don't wanna wait two hours for you guys to bake a pizza that takes 10 minutes to bake. Maybe if you guys weren't so slow. We could've ordered a normal pizza and got a normal pizza box. Or maybe we should've just got eight plates for eight slices of pizza and juggle them the out of the store to please you guys?... the dude was an absolutely rude, you act as if we're stealing from your children's mouth because we got two to go boxes for eight slices of pizza? I wish I could use the choice words I want to use to describe that worker but yelp will just take the review down. I immediately lost my appetite after the person was so blatantly rude in front of all the other customers. Seriously what is wrong with your employee there what is his issue? The place is constantly packed like a sardine can you cant move around or even sit. The only reason I tolerate the horribly crowded chaotic atmosphere is because their pies are decent, but theyre not decent enough to be belittled and talked down to like a theif for getting two to go boxes from the cashier, the guy was literally pissed off that we were taking up seats in the store and had the audacity to have to go boxes. If you're that upset or worried about people occupying your store, maybe buy yourselves a bigger location or rent a larger location instead of making your customers feel so unwelcome. Or better yet dont hire A holes to work for you and make your customers feel welcome. I loved headies pizza but I wont come back and ill tell everyone about how rude your employee was and it being the reason I refuse to be a patron any longer. DO BETTER. EDUCATE YOUR EMPLOYEES ON HOW TO PROPERLY TREAT YOUR CUSTOMERS. To dump on someone over 2 to go boxes, get yourself a horrible review is pathetic... i guess 8 paper plates woulda been the more eco friendly choice.... Or is it the money your business is so concerned about losing? Maybe if you're struggling so hard to provide to go boxes to your customers, you should charge people for to go boxes. That way you don't have to verbally abuse me in front of other customers when I come to eat some food. This is some of the best NJ pizza I have had on the west coast and if you have read any of my other posts on pie you know I usually get it plane. My motto is if you can't make a good cheese pie, then anything you put on it is just making up for bad or mediocre pizza. This place needs no toppings and we will defiantly be back. We've been known to time our outings just to catch Headies Pizza for a couple slices during their hours. They open at 3 and for a bonus, it's also Happy Hour for a buck off each slice! So that's our goal when we're hungry for real hand crafted pizza. The pizza is the most delicious, hands down. The crust is tasty, hot, bubbly, and thin which I prefer. A perfect portion of a delicious red sauce permeates your senses. The toppings are fresh, the cheese is gooey; there's an ample amount of everything good in this pizza. There aren't so many choices that it's overwhelming. Just enough choices to leave a lasting impression. The staff is friendly, the service is quick. Absolutely loved this little pizza joint! We waited a bit for them to open at 3pm.. But while we were waiting we chatted with a local who assured us it was worth the wait. Then they put the special slices of the day in the window and quickly we knew we wanted the wookie and the luau. It's tiny inside, maybe seating for 12 people, but most people get their pizza to go. We ordered the wookie and the luau slices and they were so good we ordered a cheese and a pepperoni too. We really liked the salad with the Fig Balsamic Vinaigrette but we didn't like the pizza, a, "Simply Vegan with red sauce: artichoke, red onion, black olive, basil, vegan mozzarella on an olive oil, garlic & herb base". The pizza was supposed to have artichoke but we there were barely any parts of artichoke at all. They said they couldn't do 'no onions', had to take it 'as is'. I really didn't want to do this, but .... we have a party of 7 and enter at 8:30 (they close at 9 ) , we were informed they wouldn't make anymore new pizzas but we could order by the slice already made (who knows how long they'd been there ) , we were hungry so that's what we ordered plus a couple beers- all going well up until now (I wasn't happy about not having a fresh pizza but still woulda been a positive review up until .... ) we get the reheated slices and gotta admit - they were very good ( plus we were hungry) ! 8:55 my cousin orders another beer and a guy comes from the back and tells our server that no more beer was to be served , ok still on the positive star rating , 8:58 the lady that reheats the pizza (cook? Owner ? ) comes to our table and says 9pm is a hard close and that they've been here since 1pm so we need to leave at 9pm on the dot , I had not finished my slice yet so how do you think I/we felt ? In other words, scarf down your food or else ! My family owned restaurants, and I can tell you this is not how you treat customers . You've been there since 1pm and now it's 9pm ? Oh wow ! A whole 8 hours ??? Oh my !!! You coulda handled this differently- I woulda respected you saying at 8:30 we'll be closing our doors and you'll need to leave then , not be notified 2 minutes before 9 with food still on our plates that we need to go ! So, to my fellow travelers , if you are hungry after 8pm - this is not the place to go, but to be honest if you're hungry at earlier hours you'll have a pretty good slice here . This little pizza shop is a good stop for pizza. We stopped after a long day of hiking and the need for some food. Despite calling multiple times with a busy signal we just stopped by. Luckily we got our order is but had to wait 30 mins. The good part was it was well worth the wait. We went with the half margarita pizza and half wookie...( cause why not) ! The had the wookie with the red sauce but overall a good NY style pizza. Good thin crust with a nice taste. Here the thing... we also got a salad ... and OMG this was a big surprise as it was amazing. Loaded some really great tomatoes, pine nuts, pumpkin seeds, black olives and more. Super solid pizza place! Ordered an 18" half plain cheese half ricotta roni pizza ahead of time for takeout. They quoted me 25 minutes and sure enough, when I walked in 25 minutes later they were boxing up my order. They require masks and only allow one person inside at a time due to Covid, which made me feel super safe when picking up. Everyone working there was super friendly. I like that they let you do half and half with their specialty pies just as long as the sauce base is the same. As for the pizza itself, I definitely enjoyed the ricotta roni. The crust is pretty thin but I'm a fan of that. I thought the price point was reasonable too for an 18" pie, especially considering the area. We were told on the phone that they didn't have Margerita pizzas, which contradicts what their menu says. The girl at the counter also took our order and seemed somewhat stoned. All good, it is Humboldt. When I got the pizza home and was able to see it I was throughly disappointed. The "chicken" appeared to have been literally blended into the sauce. It was the most greasy, tasteless, disgusting pizza I've ever had. Dominos would be an upgrade. We each had a bite and proceeded to toss it in the trash. A year later and we are back! Still loving the pizza and this time, the salad, too! Service was a little wonky... with the COVID-19 craziness, they are relying on take out exclusively, no dine in. There were multiple signs out front warning customers that there is only one register and only one cashier taking orders and payment, so relax and be patient. Not sure what kinds of crazy-customer blowback they have gotten, but I found the signage off-putting. I would recommend phrasing it differently so the first impression you get walking up is more, "Hey, we are so glad you are here to give us your business! Thank you in advance for your patience as our small shop works around these new health regulations to keep everyone safe!" Instead of, "Look, we are doing the best we can so don't be an asshole to our cashier, alright, and get ready to wait a long time." Just a suggestion. I dont mind waiting, but the system of taking orders did seem off. I phoned in from my car in front of the restaurant and was asked to be put on hold. I didn't mind and assumed there was another customer on the other line ahead of me. But then a group of 4 guys came in and I watched the cashier take each of their orders, ring them up, grab their beers, all individually one after another, while I sat on hold. Then she started putting to-go boxes together for a couple of minutes before picking up my call again. Not so great. I get that all hands on deck means you have to manage a lot, and it can get chaotic and disordered, but generally, I expect customers to be handled in the order they arrive. Our wait was good, though. It took 30 minutes on the nose to prepare our two whole pizzas, a slice, and two salads--totally reasonable. The cashier was very friendly ringing us up. And the food was tasty! My mother LOVED the salad (it had a lot of toppings), hubby and dad enjoyed the meaty Big Wave pizza, and I adore the Goathaven pizza. Headies is still making some of the best pizza around the bay. Called it in with this new era, prepaid too so you don't have to do the payment there, it will be about 35 minutes - cool perfect timing to make the slow roll up to Trinidad. There is no interior area and a max of two inside as stated at the door, masks are required for entry otherwise its business as usual with people waiting (6 foot or more apart) fortunately the wait here is a great one nestled up next to the old growth redwoods. Make your way inside and let them know you are there and someone brings you your piping hot, made to order with the freshest of ingredients pie - when its done, our wait was about 5 minutes and all considering a meer moment in time to enjoy the ocean air, sunshine and giant old trees. Our large Old Growth less bell peppers pizza was delivered to our car in literally no time at all. We made the slow 8 minute roll back home around the left edge of the continent - this is a huge pizza and definitely enough for a family to share, we had leftovers. Excellent thin crust with just enough char to make it extra flavorful, fresh basil and tomatoes, sweet diced red onions and ground sausage this is a delicious house special pizza. Worth the drive up to Trinidad - a very good hole in the wall pizza joint thats still here post pandemic that makes a really nice pizza.
