Last September I exchanged a few pleasant emails with Pizza Gago regarding the possibility of catering a wedding, but apparently a lot has changed in a year. Please see the the attached, late-night, indecorous email sent by the business owner after I didn't respond to him sending me an unsolicited menu update (that was in my junk folder) Brides beware....

    Awesome pizza local ingredients

Wood fired pizza!! and then set up by Humboldt Regeneration Brewery & Farm on Wednesdays for "Ween-sday" pizza and beer night (this little pizza/beer night has one more night before this 2015 winter season sets in at the beer garage - last one of this year is Nov. 4 @ HRB). This little pizza truck and trailer combo is hard to beat, great hand tossed wood fired pizza with local ingredients whenever possible. Made right in front of you, to order and all in about 10-12 minutes. The owner sets up at a variety of locales across the north coast area. When you see the yellow " Pizza Gago" banner be sure to give him a try, you will be glad you did. This cool mobile Pizza trailer is quite a set up, the owner gets most of his ingredients from local west coast sources. The evening of our encounter with Pizza Gago - there were two chalk boards set up - one with a list of all the local purveyors used for the evening and the other; a daily offerings board. There were half a dozen options to choose from off the board from a classic cheese only pie to more elaborate toppings. We ordered three 11" pies - two classic cheese and one "New Westhaven" which consisted of a wonderful mix of prosicutto, pine nuts, caramelized onions and thinly sliced apples, all on top of some of the very best crust I have ever had. It was so good if fact that I went to the owner to inquire as to where his flour came from, which he told me is sourced out of Sonoma county. An 11" Pie ranges from around $10-$13 depending on toppings, and its more than enough for one and to even share with others. Which we did, I also tried a slice from a friend of the Pepperoni pizza and it was equally as awesome. Out of the three different styles I tasted on our recent visit - they all were very good. A few things to know before you go - He does not do "Slices" whole pies only, and its cash and carry. Other than that, you walk up place your order, pay for your pie and give him your name and about 10-12 +/- minutes if he is not slammed and your ready. All in all a great pizza, with great locally sourced ingredients and awesome one on one service. Well worth a stop when you see him set up at an event you're at. We are already looking forward to the last one of this year in two weeks, and then again next spring when the Pizza Gago truck & trailer reappears for Pizza & Beer "Ween-sday" at the beer garage... A Solid 4 stars - you will be glad you tried him. 00303

I'm always hopeful to find Pizza Gago at local Humboldt events. Good pizzas that are creative and use fresh ingredients!

The cooking was entirely self contained and did not require power and water, a must for our remote location.

It does take time (our order took about 20-25 minutes, but it sure was worth the wait. The Pupusas were amazingly delicious, and I believe like everything else, made from scratch (the pupusa shell was, too, but that was made ahead of time). So I understand it takes time. I had a Pupusa Taco (aka Pu-Taco), without cheese. The Pupusa pouch (or whatever it's actually called) has a texture and taste that I really enjoy. I shared two Empanadas, which were made of plantain, deep fried, topped with powdered sugar. One was filled with beans, the other cream. Both were way better than any donut I've ever eaten, and that says a lot - yummy! My husband loved his Pupusas, too, filled only with black beans. Two were a lot to eat, but worth every bite (according to him). Service was genuinely friendly and down-to-earth. I regret I had only this one chance to try their food. I hope I'm lucky enough to find a Salvadoran restaurant close to me, but it probably won't compare to this one. 5* (more if I could!).
