I said " Help" and she delivered.. she gave me the best haircut I've ever had and over time with her skill and knowledge my hair is in great shape is long past my shoulders and has never looked better. Elizabeth gives me highlights with some lowlights.i never knew I would be able to get my hair this long and get to keep the blonde that I love.She uses a skill called " Volumetrics" when she cuts hair.It gives my hair volume and movement and she has made me feel beautiful.. While Elizabeth is incredibly skilled, ultimately I have decided not to return after my third cut and I'm really sad about that. During my final app't with her, she first shamed me for cheekily kvetching about how my hair was driving me nuts around the hairline with the grow out. Then, she trauma dumped on me and *I* had to pay *her* for the trauma dump. Later, she called me to say I failed to pay her. I would never stiff someone for services rendered. Ever. She is running a cash only business - how does one prove the cash was handed over to someone if they were distracted when I paid? Thankfully, she finally located the cash. As well, my first two appt's consisted of listening to her badmouth multiple people - coworkers and clients among them. Not very professional. Reign it in, man. I felt absolutely SLIMED after my last app't and was still feeling the need for a GD Silkwood Shower 24 hours later. ICK. Just ick. read more

First I'd like to say I hardly give bad reviews but this was honestly needed. I called first and asked if they were able to take walk ins and they said I could come in. Upon arrival they told me they only took cash and check. I was kinda frustrated since I had already gotten there. Nonetheless I went and got cash. It was $75 for a wash and blow dry which are pretty average prices. Although, it took over 2 hours to complete this service. It seemed as if my stylist had no idea what she was doing. I don't like to bash people in the beauty industry but honestly I was so frustrated because blow drys usually take 45-60 minutes. Maybe even an hour and a half if I'm being honest but over 2 hours is crazy. My hair was still frizzy and my part wasn't even centered or straight. If she took that long I was expecting at least a good and quality outcome but as you can see that was not received. Based on the price I would've thought I would've gotten a decent blow out but it wasn't worth it at all. I will say they were nice but as far as the services I received it wasn't gonna make up for it. read more

DO NOT GO HERE if you like your hair or your sanity!!! This woman is CRAZY!! She was having a bad day (her assistant told me!) and PURPOSELY CUT A BIG CHUNK OUT IF MY HAIR!! I was in SHOCK!!! I have been going to Heads Up Hair Studio since 2002. There is no one who can cut and color my hair as well as Elizabeth can. She cuts the styles that are best for my face and lifestyle. She can highlight my hair in about a hour, where most places take 3 hours because I have so much hair. Since I moved out of the area in 2007, I have continued to drive back down to Monterey because everyone else I have tried just doesn't do my hair right. Currently I drive 170 miles one way just to see Elizabeth. Not sure what I will do when she retires, because she is that good. Elizabeth is also no nonsense. Just to let the world know - after 3 months of absolutely no professional care, I was finally able to get back to Elizabeth for color correction, etc. The amazing thing during all of the SIP drama was that my hair grew quite a bit longer (which I like and will maintain), but never lost it's shape or style. I was able to wash/dry and have a decent hairdo throughout the quarantine because of Elizabeth Zandbergen's haircutting skill . She is a genius at what she does - cannot imagine what I might have looked like without the foundation she provided for my hair to grow from. So glad to be back though - it is a lot of fun to be around her too. In addition to all of this excellence, the shop is observing all safety protocols connected with remaining safe during this pandemic. I've been going here for over ten years, I believe... Elizabeth used to be on Alvarado. She's really good, the best on the Monterey Peninsula at CUTTING hair. I love the way she cuts my fine hair and the other customers always look nice when they leave too - regardless of the type of hair they have, or their age. I usually let her pick the style for my hair and face shape and all that, as long as it's fairly easy care... But I've seen some pretty versatile hair styles there, too. It's clear she has been well trained and experienced. I use to get my hair colored, too, and I was always happy, no matter what she did with it. I'm letting the grey come in now though, so just haircuts...but it was fun being a blonde for awhile! It's always relaxed and comfortable in her small shop. Never any pressure to buy products, though she does have some, if you are interested. I never have to wait, either. She's impeccable about time - great if you have to get back to work. The parking lot is small but only once have I had to park on the street and there was plenty of parking available there, so no problem. read more

She took the time to understand what I wanted, and to tell me what was realistic for me given my type of hair and face shape for both color and cut. I had never colored my hair before I went to her because I was too afraid. She explained to me about a vegetable coloring that not only colored my "silvers" but actually helps soften and condition hair that has begun to grey. And it doesn't stink!
