Located just steps from Sonoma Plaza, there is street parking all around, but we took the complimentary shuttle from our hotel which is very convenient for a day of sipping bubbles. SIGH does not take reservations (first come, first served) but we had no trouble snagging a prime spot at the bar on a Friday afternoon. Morgynne was our server and super knowledgeable, giving detailed descriptions of wines we tried, and was patient with us, taking our sweet time enjoying our glasses and documenting our visit. I had the Champagne Flight ($35) and the #YEShusband had the Rosé Flight ($25). The Champagne flight included pours of: Champagne G.H. Mumm Grand Cordon Brut, Champagne Monthuys Brut, and Champagne Château de Bligny Grande Réserve. The Rosé flight included pours of: Cuvée Françoise, Langlois Brut Rosé, and Lucien Albrecht Brut Rosé. We also ordered some additional post-flight glasses of the Schramsberg Mirabelle Blanc de Blancs and Lucien Albrecht Brut Rosé to cap off our time at SIGH. Everything about SIGH is top notch: from the selection of bubbles ranging from California noteables to European standouts, to the curated decor and vibes, this is a must stop when you're in Sonoma. Comes with the classic garnishes of shaved egg yolk, Crème fraiche, and chives, a bowl of potato chips, and blinis. If this is your first time having caviar, the Tasting is a must! You have enough of each to distinguish between the varieties, and enough accoutrements to try with and without them on each sample! Chirashi Bowl: Koshihikari Rice, Bigeye Tuna, Ora King Salmon. Fresh fish on top of a rice mixture, diced into cubes for easy scooping. A fine accompaniment to the caviar and flowing champagne. Hokkaido Scallop Cured in Kombu: The French Laundry Culinary Garden Hakurei Turnips, Buttermilk, Kaffir Lime. Don't let the fancy ingredients and name scare you! My wife wanted to try caviar, so we actually gave it a spin here for our 1st time. I'd always been nervous about what the taste of caviar would be like. Glad I got to try it out at least once. It basically was a bit crunchy & a bit salty, other than that nothing of note for me at least. I get the price to an extent as it's not day to obtain, but man, it's expensive for what you get, not just here but any place you buy it. Probably a one time thing for me. The other item we got was one of their paninis & salads to share, and some waters. They've basically got a bar top, and most people seem to order their frozen machine drinks. It made the whole experience feel more meaningful instead of just going in for a tasting and leaving. I didn't leave with bottles this time, but I genuinely enjoyed the experience and everything I learned. Definitely will be back! The visit was entertaining and informative. The start of the tour begins at the restored train station for a short intro and historical perspective. The tour guide moves the group to the original winery building (no longer used for production). The group watches an hour long movie on the history of Korbel starting out with the family immigrating to the USA from Bohemia, cigar making, moving from the east coast to San Francisco, moving to Guerneville, cigar box making, logging, building a railroad to the logging operation, growing crops, growing grapes and the production of sparkling wine. And the story of the only American sparkling that can call itself champagne. The tour moves thru the cellar with its original barrels built in place and other memorabilia. The tour ends with a glass of sec, a champagne only served and sold at the winery. We learned about the different grapes used as well as the dosage to determine the level of sweetness. We also learned about riddling and the Korbel's invention of an automatic riddling machine.After the tour, we moved to the tasting room where you get 3 pours for $15. There were 3 of us in our group so we tried 9 different champagnes of varying sweetness. Then on to the retail store before ending up in the deli for a noshe to fortify us for the drive back to our lodging. Staff at the winery were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. We requested another glass of bubbly to taste a bottle to purchase . At that point the bartender from across tue bar loudly said said we were cut off.... ? We had 1/2 glass of bubbly unfinished while sitting. Absolutely no reason for her comment and no excuse or an apology. Needless to say, Monica in management was very apologetic for her employee's behavior. Love the bubbly they serve and atmosphere always is a good experience sharing the winery with our friends the beautiful Gloria Ferrer experience. We should have had an apology personally extended to us by the bartender, there was absolutely no excuse for her behavior!
