A very nice updated experience with a very good manager who really cares about the Thousand Oaks location and keeping customers happy. Now that Kriser's and Protein for Pets are gone from the area, he has made sure to bring in some brands that were pretty exclusive to those former stores. And yes, he did price match - don't know if that was wifey's "charm" or just good business sense, but we signed up for the Frequent Shopper program. I don't think they sell any live pets (yay!) and they have a good selection of foods, beds, crates, toys etc for cats and dogs. Update: An employee (or owner) voted this review "funny." They sell very old food a year+ the expiration date. Not one or two mistake cans, but I saw many that were over a year old. Weird energy in here. Convenient location and they do have some healthy options, but items are way overpriced for service and they sell VERY old food past the expiration. Check expiration dates- they have a "50% off" table at the front and the food on it is 1 year+ expired. I get that some things can last past their expiation dates, but 16 months is more than pushing it. I felt it was deceptive to be placing these long expired cans, etc. in the discount section with eye-catching signs where people are less likely to check/notice dates. Just because it's half off doesn't mean it can't get your pet sick. Staff (with 1 exception) is always apathetic and cold. Glazed over expressions, curt answers, and passive aggressive even with how they take your money and hand you your bag. Weird. read more

Underneath its rather humble exterior, Healthy Pet has employees that really know their stuff about animals and the products they carry. I used drive down to Westlake to get Riley's "Royal Canine" but they carry it here for a good $2 cheaper and it's much closer as well. They have unique toys here as well as the "usual" toys/treats (kongs, greenies) and they even have little baked goods you can bring home for your 4 legged friend(s). I came here at the suggestion of one of my friends and we were not disappointed. It didn't hurt that we went during an anniversary event sale with many booths and vendors. We got samples from major pet food companies and even got some raffle tickets to win goodies. We picked up some freeze dried food at a great price even without the discount. My daughter fell in love with Wilson the cat and wanted to ask if he was for sale too.
