This is my favorite pet food store! They have great brands at different price levels. My dog was having stomach issues when she was younger and the guys told me all about the different foods and diets they had available. There have been a few times that I've been gone and they've been out of the specific food I want, but they have almost always gotten it in the next day. When I moved to Thousand Oaks a year ago from Studio City, I was sad to leave my family owned pet store. I can honestly say that Healthy Pet is even better (and that's saying a lot). They genuinely care about their customers and our beloved pets. I typically deal with Ryan and Taylor, and they are amazing, always going above and beyond. I've also met the owner Darren a couple times, and he's the same. They offer good discounts if you pre-pay in bulk, which also comes with free delivery. Even if you pay as you go, you can still have your items delivered for a minimal fee. I can't say enough about this incredible family owned pet store. Grateful! read more

Healthy Pet (in the 7 Eleven strip mall on T.O. boulevard) helped me out when I was in a jam. I have been having issues with my kitty as he can only eat poultry and grain free wet food. When Pet Co ran out of his Wellness CORE fish food, my sis recommended this place and said that they will have a great selection of food that I need. Heathy Pet is well, healthy. They have a ton of food for animals and you can tell that they only sell high quality food. Not the junk you see at the supermarket or even at other chain pet stores. I went in and the guy listened to my story and like 5 seconds later picked out a great brand and read the label and made sure it didn't have any ingredients that my kitty was allergic to. This store is a one stop shop for any and all of the best foods & products for your pets. That means alot coming from me considering I ask for a lot. My dog is allergic to everything under the sun such as soy, yeast, lamb, rice, potato, beef, duck, and the list goes on. Darren and his staff are very knowledgeable and always point me in the right direction for all my needs and not only food wise. They recommend great products that almost always do the trick such as ear problems, stomach problems, gas, etc.. and if it doesn't work or my dogs do not like it, They always give me the credit back towards any other purchase in the store. I highly recommend this place especially if it is something hard to find and healthy for your animals, they will have it 99% of the time and if they don't they will get it for you and even deliver it straight to your door. read more

One of the best local pet stores in the county, with an oustanding selection of premium dog foods. Only place that carries a full line of raw-frozen and freeze-dried raw foods from more than one company, and they have a great variety of dry, canned, and supplements. Staff is very friendly, professional and helpful. Great prices and discounts for buying in bulk/multiple packages. Questionable from the outside - I actually drove past it many times thinking I'd never stop in as compared to the area mega pet stores. However, I was in search of a specialty food item and was directed to this location from the brand's website. I was pleasantly surprised. Helpful, friendly staff and well stocked (and priced for the most part) items. Some of their stuff is overpriced, however I love the options and they do give you volume discounts (the more you buy, the more you save for items such as canned food). I now buy all my food and pet items at this location and will also try the newer Agoura Hills store. read more

Healthy Pet is a full line pet-shop. I've been to both locations depending on my scheule and they have been consistently knowlegable, helpful and eager to please. I agree with the previous reviews. This is what i refer to as the "ghetto stripmall of T.O." because it is so oddly unkempt and out of place. But don't let that dissuade you from stopping by. The staff are always very helpful and knowledgeable, and they have a great array of hard-to-find premium products (especially dog food), including raw/frozen/etc types. Like previous reviewers, I also was pointed there by some list (I forget which) that said they carried a premium raw food that I used for my dog that I couldn't find anywhere else. I probably would not have stopped by otherwise. Prices are generally competitive, at least for the more expensive items. The lesser items (like the ones you could find at any Petsmart or Petco) are overpriced, HOWEVER, they have price-matched for me before. Don't fail to ask or you may be missing out on a good deal! Be prepared that they will usually try to upsell you, but not annoyingly so. The most frequent is "you can save $2 by buying two of those $30 packages", which usually isn't that great a deal for me :) I used to fancy myself to be un-upsellable, but indeed, even I was beaten once by the offer of a food bin that turned out to be a really great buy as it keeps my doggie's kibble fresh and the ants out (the timing was perfect, having been recently ant-attacked!). This is now my go-to place for high-quality foods for my princess doggie! I am and will continue to be a "regular". read more

This is our favorite pet supply store! We have been coming here for years and the owner and guys that work here are so great. They really seem to care and give great advice on foods and treats. They helped us find the perfect food for our new puppy when she was having issues with certain proteins and foods and were great about exchanging out the nearly full bag that didn't work out for one they suggested that worked great for her. It's OK. A wide variety of food and toys, but incredibly high prices. I expect a local business to be more expensive than an online or national brand store, but Healthy Pet's prices are beyond reason. I use a high end, and expensive brand of dog food, but I'm not prepared to pay 50% more than I can get from online services, which have the added convenience of free delivery, no sales tax, and overnight shipping. Ok - so I own TWO exceptionally FUSSY standard poodles andI feel like I have done the rounds with pet stores lately trying to find something that they will eat!!! - I have gone from raw food, to cooked chicken to kibble - and hey - they are finally eating unassisted AND it's kibble! Furthermore - it's Royal Canin - who knew - hahah. Anyway - off topic slightly - I called Healty Pet because the Royal Canin food that I stumbled upon is really hard to get - Special Medium 25 for Adults (with Collie on front of bag). Healthy Pet - sourced me 2 x 30lb bags within 24 hours - WAY TO GO. They also gave me a great deal on a storage bin. So, I had a proper look around today in the store and they do RAW, KIBBLE and a ton of great stuff - this is MY NEW STORE WIHOUT DOUBT!! Excellent customer service. read more

I moved recently and had previously purchased my dog food, bones, and treats from the Healthy Pet in Newbury Park. The Newbury Park store is great, but the Thousand Oaks store leaves MUCH to be desired. I purchased a large, expensive bag of frozen beef bones for my dog, only to discover that the bone shattered when he chewed it. I went back to the store with the full bag of bones, but the store would not exchange them. Seriously, AVOID this place. It has a dingy, creepy vibe as soon as you walk in! Do yourself a favor and drive to the Newbury Park store--it's worth the extra effort. read more

My rescue had severe stomach issues due to starvation from abuse. I had her on chicken and rice and that did not stop her diarrhea. I spent a bundle to see if his recommended products would stop her acute chronic diarrhea. I returned to the store to get a refund of 2 duplicates of items I bought that made her diarrhea worse. The owner refused to refund my $20 after my son and I had been good customers for over a year, spending a small fortune in the shop. Really, I was surprised. I explained that, if he had something else I could buy for her, I would. He still refused to refund my $20, offering a store credit instead. So, after giving him all our business and spending a lot of money in his store, we will never return. I hope saving the $20 was worth it to him. The wonderful rolled, thick rawhide cheek chews he has that don't break off in small choking pieces and that I loved for my other dog I found on the Internet for $6 and $7. He was charging $11! I will not return. For those of you whose dogs have stomach problems, try Rachel Ray Just 6 dry food from Ralphs, Walmart, Vons or my favorite, chewy.com. 14lb $18 and you get 1-2 day free shipping if you spend over $49. It was written about all over the Internet regarding its success in helping dogs with diarrhea and my Lucy proves that out. After my vet and I battled my poor Lucy's chronic and nonstop diarrhea for months, Just 6 stopped it in its tracks. Wonderful, US sourced, clean healthy dog food and Rachel donates a large percentage of the proceeds to her animal rescue foundation. After 3 years on Just 6, it's still keeping Lucy healthy and diarrhea free. read more

The owner is very helpful. He carries a product called California Natural Grain Free Chicken Formula. I have an Abyssinian female cat who has had chronic digestive problems such that she throws up and has loose stools on virtually all the food I have tried for her, even vet-recommended ones. But with this dry food she has never thrown up and has had totally normal stools, since day one of using it. I have not seen this food in any other store. The neighborhood is just fine. Great family-owned business, the owner mans the store most days except Sunday and he's always very helpful. I go to get my guinea pig her "mani-pedi," only $10 compared to the vet just across the street (love them too, don't get me wrong) who charges $19. The owner remembers both me and my guinea pig by sight, and dotes on my "lowly" small pet just the same!! read more

What a relief to find the place that sells crickets cheaper than the leading chain store Petco because we were paying $5 for less than 30 crickets when we went to Healthy Pet which is a local store owned by a local Thousand Oaks resident it was a $1 for 20 much better deal. Ever since then we've been going there. My friend Ryan works there he is a hard worker and will gladly help you out with a smile and the enthusiasm to match. Darren the owner is really cool and will get you what you need. The only reason I did not give it a 5 star rating is because of the location its my least favorite strip mall on the Thousand Oaks Boulevard it's a little run down which does not affect customer service or good business. read more
