Several years ago we enjoyed an especially nice New Years Eve celebration at Hearth '61. So, when we decided to make our return to a special restaurant after the 2020 quarantine was lifted, Hearth '61 was our first choice...and it was the perfect choice! We were lucky enough to dine during Restaurant Week so our special guests (longtime friends of ours visiting from out-of-state) ordered a delightful combination of terrific food from the Restaurant Week menu. My husband and I ordered from the regular menu and I was very happy that Hearth '61 offered both menus so we could try the different options. My favorite entree is the Pan Roasted Salmon with caramelized onion, gnocchi, asparagus, morel mushrooms and the perfect mustard hollandaise to top it off. The salmon melts in your mouth. The Niman Ranch Tenderloin of Beef with the delish red wine demi, bleu cheese fondue and truffled mash was also terrific. Don't miss the side dish brussels sprouts with the sweet chili vinaigrette with sesame seed. Those melt in your mouth, too! Our group tried several desserts and all were great. I especially liked one that I may not have ordered on my own so I was so glad we tasted a variety. The Pina Colada Semifreddo with rum soaked coconut sponge, brûlée pineapple, granola and caramel sauce was a light tasting sweet treat that I will order again! The ambience and atmosphere was just right with a beautifully lit dining room and a pleasant outdoor seating area that shows a nice view of the pretty and cool resort with the beautiful mountains in the lovely Paradise Valley background. The serving team was super attentive and our waiter made excellent recommendations and took pride in the presentations of the plated entrees. It was enjoyable to be back out there dining and conversing with the Hearth '61 culinary team who are happy to be there as well. Chef Charles Wiley's recipes, unique combination of farm-to-table ingredients and his special touch, both with the Restaurant Week menu and with the usual menu, make for a flavorful outing both in taste and in experience. I look forward to returning to try lunch and better yet...I hope to stay at the resort in the future to enjoy Chef Wiley's breakfast fare as well. Oh and be sure to try the hand crafted cocktails or one of the fine wines that are beautifully displayed in a tall glass case in the dining room. Hearth '61 is the perfect combination of local elegance and casual fine dining. We were very proud to bring our good friends from Texas to Chef Wiley's Hearth '61 restaurant. We can't wait to return! Went here for a new years eve meal and they had a set menu. I thought 125 per person was steep for the menu as that didn't include any alcohol and I'm surprised they only had the one option for the menu. No alternative choices for main course which was shockingly, striploin! For that price you would think they would serve a better cut of steak. But i gave it a chance thinking maybe it's going to be good but the tenderloin disappointed and was chewy and lacked flavor. It was the first time I've ever wasted any steak and not eat it all. Also, for a fine dining experience, I was disappointed in the timing of each course being served. It didn't feel well thought out or orchestrated. I honestly wouldn't expect so much but at that price point and based on what I've had at other set course fine dining experiences, this definitely fell Overall the ambience was nice but I've been to several fine dining experiences and this was definitely not worth the price and we felt shorted in the choice of main course they served. Our total came out close to $400. I'm writing so hopefully they can take this feedback constructively and give people a reason to come back. read more

Absolutely phenomenal experience. The wait staff was perfect and helpful, the food was some of the best we've ever experienced. An absolute must in Arizona! Scallops cooked to perfection, lamb shank that fell off the bone, and a burrata tomato salad that was bursting with flavors. Amazing dinner and service with friends the other night. Our server was wonderful in giving suggestions on both the food and wine. Had a great Italian red wine but sorry I don't the name and had 2 appetizers that we easily share between the 4 of us. One was the special that night with a grilled burrata with a lightly fried squash blossom and the other was the octopus also excellent and cooked perfectly, very tender. I had the salmon with gnocchi also very good, my husband the beef tenderloin which he was very tender, tasty and a perfect rare. Our friends share the pork chop which was big enough for 2 people. I was treated to a birthday lunch yesterday, July 27th, at Hearth 61. My friend is a resident at Mountain Shadows and has dined there before. The food was wonderful, but our waitress Kathan was incomparable! She was cheerful and answered any of our questions. Our tea and water was filled as needed. Hearth '61 is a resort restaurant crafted in the current style - modern room design including some sofas, an open kitchen, and a limited menu. The last allows them to make sure all ingredients are fresh and that the staff is expert in preparing them. Of course, it only "allows" them to do these laudable things, but in the case of Hearth '61, they actually do them. All food items that we had were perfectly crafted, slightly innovative, and delicious. I speak of a duck comfit starter, and fish and lamb entrees. In each case the flavor profiles were imaginative, the various ingredients and tastes blending with each other without any one of them dominating. The lamb portion was huge (the server said that normally it was not that large) and the other sizes were reasonable. Dessert (fruited bread pudding) was okay but not quite as good as the other dishes (it needed to be more "custardy"). Service was exemplary, and the outdoor seating comfortable with a view of a mountainside, albeit in the distance with hotel rooms and pools in the foreground. I would suggest a bit more lighting outside; we needed cell phone flashlights to trim our meat. You can also choose regular indoor tables or high-top seating. Prices are a tad high, but not compared to other resort spots, and they participate in the Preferred Restaurants program which gives you a BOGO on the entrees if you are a member. read more

Oh my goodness, this is the hidden gem you have been looking for!! Do not miss an opportunity to eat at this incredible restaurant! Everything from the ambiance, service, food and drinks was amazing. Their single use menus were easy to read and beautiful to look at. The scenery surrounding the restaurant was great, mountains in every direction! I have been looking for the perfect mint julep forever.. this bartender hit the nail on the head with his crafted cocktails! The best mint julep I have EVER had, my search is finally complete! The food was so delicious, we started with the Parmesan fries, ahi tuna, and chips with queso and guacamole. Every appetizer was incredible. The cavatelli bolognese was cooked perfectly. The noodles were tender and the sauce was seasoned to perfection. The highlight of the night was definitely the tenderloin. It was suggested by our waitress and she was not wrong in saying it is the best thing on the menu. You could cut that tenderloin with a fork! The velvety texture of the meat and the perfect crust on the outside is definitely something I will be back for. Such an amazing experience, I cannot wait to be back! read more

Ahead of our 6 person arrival, the restaurant was advised that one of our party guests is writing a piece on the Valley's Resort Restaurants. All parties acknowledged the warning before we even looked at the menus, so you would assume that tonight, of all nights, Hearth '61 would show off it's A-game...NOPE. We were immediately seated at an expansive table in the back corner with a direct sight line into the large open kitchen. The first thing you notice is the vibe like you are at a rock concert. The noise in this restaurant is acoustically damaging, such that you literally have to yell across the table. Completing the concert theme, every other table has their cell phone lights out to read the menu. Hearth '61, what are you hiding? I understand mood but sound and lighting should only be as needed to enhance the food, not create an obstacle to ordering it. Our waiter suggested the Sergeant Pepper and Hard Day's Night cocktails. Here we encountered our first major stumble. While our waiter specifically recommended these two drinks, he couldn't tell us how they are prepared nor their ingredients. Perhaps that is because they are utterly unremarkable. In addition to those two, we ordered two other "signature" cocktails that were just OK. The Blackbird (Botanist gin) honestly tasted and smelled like what I imaging a urinal cake added to a glass of watered down fruit juice could deliver; just odd. The inconsistency coming out of the bar is embarrassing. At one point, because the drinks take an exorbitant amount of time to arrive, we let one of the Hard Days Night sit untouched while two others of the same drink arrived. All three looked and tasted different. Even a staples like the Manhattan were inconsistent and only one in three drinks were ever garnished. I appreciate that these are "craft" cocktails, but for Pete's sake, this craft isn't the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. The Food and Beverage Manager at this property should be fuming at this performance. Having completely lost my buzz between cocktails 1 & 2, we pointed out the bars' failings and moved on to order a few appetizers; Ahi Tartare $16 and Wood Roasted Prawns on a bed of Polenta $18. The Ahi flavorful but not raveable. The Prawns, well 4 of 6, were deeply flavorful. The other two were a tragic comedy. The menu has a small asterisk next to the Tuna Tartare, not the prawns, warning that consuming raw fish may lead to health issues. One of the "cooked" prawns was actually plated and brought to our table as a gelatinous mush. Now it's conceivable that this prawn is a Millennial prawn and has been hiding at the bottom of the sea playing Fortnight all summer on the Xbox, thus lacking any semblance of muscular structure, but who's to know? Of course we showed the manager the raw and mushy prawns and he delivered a replacement plate...with two more raw prawns! WTF?!? Main course rapid fire for brevity. The Prime Rib lacks depth and is pure boredom. Plopped on a drab plate with nothing...absolutely nothing...no garnish, no color, no imagination. Short Rib Agnolotti has hope. The Tomahawk Tenderloin was cold. The Beet Salad was pleasant on the eyes, I think. And the Pan Roasted Salmon was edible. At this point we have gotten to know the manager quite well. Nice guy. Trying. I don't think the kitchen staff or bar were trying but the manager, he's trying. The manager patiently listened to all the critique and, to his credit, didn't retort with a lame lesson. He appropriately verbalized the highlighted concerns, pledged to adjust the bill and offered us dessert. By now our expectations have been managed; low. You literally could have plated four animal crackers, provided them an exotic name and delivered them to the table and we wouldn't have batted an eye. The Peanut Butter Beeramisu is one of the oddest attempts. Solidly a grade school cooking class creation that probably isn't worth the kitchen mess to make it. The Warm Apple Tart was neither warm nor a tart and I chuckle because one of our party likened it to a McDonalds handheld hot apple pie, but not hot. The Flourless Chocolate Torte was a hit and worthy of enjoying. And the piece-de-resistance, The Warm Spring Berry Brioche Bread Pudding is just that; a piece that should be resisted...at all costs. The dish was basically a pile of cool soggy croutons with no boozy hints and the "spring berries" were baby food consistency. I have no doubt they were "spring berries" but I suspect they were harvested a year ago and defrosted that night. So in all, Hearth '61 is a major miss. Management has some serious introspection to do. We are happy group of foodies and took the night in stride. The adjusted bill was still too much for the experience and frankly, Hearth '61 is a Gordon Ramsey tirade waiting to happen. I'm not sure a burger of this caliber has ever crossed my mouth. Seriously, the very best I've ever eaten. And to top it off, the chef walked by and asked, "how are your dishes?" Total class. This is only one if the dishes I've enjoyed on several occasions. I dined at the bar and the gentleman serving me were top notch, always filling my water without a request. Toasted crusty heath bread with pesto. I started meal with the perfectly charred octopus that paired well served with warm potato salad bacon eggplant chermoulo; bit too heavy on sodium. Escarole Salad; Butter lettuce and a Manchego, poached egg, leaks, garbanzo beans, brioche croutons & sherry vinaigrette. This restaurant is beautifully remodeled and very stylish. We had excellent and very friendly service throughout. There were several things that really stood out during our meal. The first highlight was the martinis: very dry, ice cold, and served in a frozen glass. If you're a martini drinker you know what this means. Restaurants often chill their martini glasses, but freezing them keep the martini cold longer. The second highlight was the food presentation. I actually started smiling when I saw my swordfish (see pictures) because the splatter presentation of the green harissa sauce is so innovative. I spent a few minutes imagining how high you would have to hold the ladle to get that kind of splatter pattern, and finally commented about it to our server. He told me when the kitchen started doing that plating he would find green sauce all over the bar. :-) The third highlight was the superb taste of both my swordfish dinner (with green harissa, mushrooms and radishes) and my husband's rack of lamb with roasted baby carrots (he raved about the reduction sauce). The swordfish and lamb were cooked to perfection and were perfect portions (my husband chose the 2 bone option rather than the 4 bone option which was plenty after bread and salad). We'll definitely be back again (even though it's a 30 minute drive for us) and highly recommend Hearth 61. read more

The only thing that made me give 2 stars is that the food was delicious, but not enough to bring me back to dine again. The service on the other hand was some of the worst I have experienced. We had dinner on a Friday night and the service was unbelievably slow, which made no sense as the restaurant was pretty dead, only about 5 other tables dining during our entire time there. We could see servers standing around near the kitchen, yet we just sat waiting for everything. There was way to much wait time between finishing one course and waiting for the next to arrive. At the end of the meal it was even hard to get our server to take our dessert order after she had brought coffee. My other disappointment has to do with the amenities. As a parent of a toddler I was disappointed because the family bathroom was closed due to maintenance issues and there was no other option for diaper changing. I had to resort to lying my child down on the floor in one of the bathroom stalls. Not something then any mother wants to do. read more

When we visit Paradise Valley on a Saturday evening, it is to be transported to a specific, relaxed-yet-hip vibe, and an exceptional food experience. Hearth '61 did that and more. By far, the best food and service we've had since moving to the Phoenix Valley four years ago. Trust your waitstaff and go along for the ride. They won't steer you wrong. This was our 3rd dinner here and Hearth 61 is becoming one of our"go to" places. Service has always been really good - possibly because they've never been super-busy when we were there. Wine prices are very reasonable for a resort. Little bit of everything on the menu. We've always done "family style", so it's kind of a sampler dinner. Tonight, the beef, chicken and salmon were exceptional. The lamb was served too rare for even my friends that like medium meat, but the manager, Jared, was very attentive and made it right. The beerimisu and the bread pudding are excellent desserts. We've been in Phoenix a long time and are glad that Hearth 61 is right around the corner as it's been a nice dining experience 3/3 times! read more

Although this little treasure is very close to where we live we had not availed ourselves until this evening in celebration of our anniversary. Excellent service, excellent views and excellent food. Their menu choices are varied and carefully selected. My vegan preferences were easily accommodated included dessert of Fennel apple crisp with gelato. Yum! We will be back. read more

I had the breakfast, dinner and drinks from Hearth. All amazing! The ONE banana ricotta pancake was more than enough for me. So delectable...one of the best pancakes I've ever had. Drizzled in caramel, pistachios and mmm bacon! For dinner entree I had the Trofie pasta..mmm ooh so good!! The sauce is out of this world. The drinks at the bar - awesome!. I ran out of stuff to order and the bartender Wesley whipped up some stuff. Both his creations were oh so tasty!! We had dinner here this past week and it was outstanding! It started with Emma, the sommelier, coming to our table and asking me what kind of wine I liked - she listened well ... and then went a chose an incredible bottle that I loved. Marley and Annesa were very sweet, attentive waitresses and gave us good recommendations for our dinner choices. Scott Lyon, the manager, came to our table and visited with us. Hands down the best garden burger that I have ever had in my entire life. The flavor was so amazing, I talked about it for days and have been craving another one ever since. There service was also great. The restaurant is beautiful and swanky. Here is the only problem that I can see; this is somewhat the only restaurant nearby for those staying at the hotel and with the hefty price tag, I imagine that it could get very expensive eating here during your stay, especially if you have little ones in tow. I also don't think is the best spot for children. read more

We stopped off here for a drink at the bar before dinner and the place is very upscale with great views of Camelback Mountain. The service here was not good. Plain and simple. We sat at an almost empty bar and were not given a drink menu or even acknowledged by the bartenders (there were two of them) for at least 15 minutes. When they eventually got around to asking what we wanted, we ordered a couple of their signature drinks. It then took another 10 minutes to make the drinks. The drinks were very tasty, which saved this place from a lower rating. Overall: Good drinks, poor service, very pricey. Can definitely find better in the Scottsdale area. read more

We had a table of 15, everything was on point, and we had a great time. Laura helped us plan the menu, and she was super helpful - she was easy to work with and her recommendations were right on (especially the pumpkin spice crème caramel - MUST GET!). What a major disappointment!!! I was here 3 weeks ago and raved about Hearth 61, this time it was embarrassing. I brought a date here and to begin, when seated we sat about 10 minutes with no one acknowledging us. The tables next to us, I could see had the same issue. Food: they gave us an amuse bouche of a herbal hibiscus tea w/ chia seeds. It was awful, basically tastes like a herbal ice tea w water down jam. Beet salad- very average, no flavor needed salt. It has no imagination, just threw it on a plate. No care. Scallops- date orded the scallops and last time I noticed 5 scallops on the plate, now it was 3. She did say they were excellent. But c'mon, 3 scallops?? Filet- I had this last time and it was excellent. This time, the portion was at best 5 oz, served cold, no hard sear & not seasoned properly. I could tell this just sat in the window for a long time then served to me. The accompanying food on plate was a small one piece of broccolini and yes, ice cold purée of potatoes. Just awful! Dessert- lava cake. Nothing special, just your basic and easy to make cake with no use of quality cacao, almost like they used Hershey. Service was similar to what you would see at a Chili's!!! Server never checked up on us. I ordered a drink and when I empty, no offer of another. Water glasses remained empty. When the runner served us the courses, he asked "who had the scallops?" He didn't even know who got what dish. And when he put the food down, he basically just dropped it in front of us and didn't say anything just "enjoy" and walked away. When the dessert was served, we had no silverware. So the next runner said, "I will grab you some" which took a few minutes and by the time we received it, the ice cream was melting all over. Lastly, I asked to meet Amanda (she may be manager / she reviews yelp) and they had no idea who I was talking about. I didn't say anything to a manager, I was on a date & I did not want her to feel uncomfortable. I told all my friends about this place the last time I came, now I feel embarrassed that I raved about it. This place clearly is not consistent and at $150, I expect more and not have to take a chance on the quality/ service! read more

Went for lunch on Jan 30th. Upon arriving we were greeted by a gentlemen which had his face mask tangling from one ear. Ordered Avocado Toast, Veggie Omelet and Tuna Salad. Highlight- Avocado Toast was very good. Unfortunately that was it. Tuna Salad - Tuna was not fresh - told our server and she removed it Omelet- Veggies were not hot at all - very limit - no taste Jam and Ketchup came in a small plastic ramekin - I know that other restaurants in the area serve it in individual glass jars, given the price for everything it felt "cheap" Restaurant floor was very dirty - carpet is stained and it was clear that no one had bothered cleaning it for some time. The service staff was gathered in front of the kitchen "catching up" on all things. Would not recommend to anyone, when we received our check the server was kind enough to deduct $12,- for the "bad" Tuna from the bill but still charged $12,- for the cabbage salad. Oh well - we know where not to go again. read more
