One of the very few places we can have some healthy food outside... @heartland_organic_cafe_mart it's all vegan and cooked really well. We've been here a few times and enjoyed everything there. We had a stir fried mushroom rice plate this time and some soup noodles. It left us feeling so full of good nutrition. Lovely quiet ambience to eat in. Bought an odd green drink as we left and it was soooo good! It was a lovely mildly sweet dessert to end off a nutritious meal.

It's more like 3.5 but I rounded up due to affordable pricing. The item I typically get is the vegan braised soup. I'm not sure why the soup is so oily, but if they can improve on that, it'll be awesome. Also, some umami is missing from the broth. I always feel like I need some type of condiment either like red vinegar, white pepper or something to enhance the flavor. It's got potential.. I feel like something is just missing. But the soy meat is SO GOOD!! it has the perfect texture and flavor.

Heartland Cafe & Mart is an organic vegetarian food store and restaurant. Conveniently located on Pierre road toward valley next to Walnut High School. Party of two adults and two kids entered the store. Seating is limited; estimated around 20. There is no server, we order our vegetarian dishes at the back. The lady in the back at check out counter is very friendly and offer free snack samples to our kids. Vegetarian food all tastes great providing that you like mushroom, tofu, soy based, and plant based ingredients. We order one Oden. Tri-cup rice, Zha Jiang noodle ( dry noodle mixed ). Flavors are to the point and not too salty and greasy. Once you ordered, they will deliver to your table but everything is in box. It's good for to go. Overall the restaurant and store is clean, modern, and welcoming. We will be back shopping organic food products and eat lunch.

One of my favorite organic vegetarian cafes & stores. I've been there for a few years and it's like a hidden gem in Walnut. I'm not a Buddhist but I like to get their lunch and snacks there sometimes.

It was delicious, thank you! I definitely will consider ordering food here. It was so good that you can taste that it was prepared with alot heart and smile.

This quaint little market/food service place has been here for a long time! I haven't been in over 12 to 15 years so I wanted to stop by again! I can't recall what it used to look like but I do recall that it wasn't as nicely laid out as before....and now they have indoor seating for those who want to buy the food here and eat there.... I used to get stuff to go only.... Since I don't eat meat it is a really good place for me to grab a quick bite for my short lunch breaks that I take.... They have food they can cook or stuff that is already prepared.... I personally like their Radish Cakes and Cabbage Dumpling....it's ready to go... I will come back every once in awhile now for a quick lunch bite....

Summary: 5 stars for tasty and healthy Chinese vegan/vegetarian food, good service *** Super mom and pop Chinese grocery store located in a quiet commercial lot. The owners are friendly and bilingual. They sell vegan/vegetarian bread, rice milk drinks, cold side dishes, hot meals, snacks, fake meat, etc. You pay at the front, and you can choose to dine in. There is limited seating for parties of 2-4 inside. The dining area is small, but aesthetic. You bus your own table; trash can located near the door. I ate here once four years ago. My impression of Heartland was yummy, not too salty, and not too oily. Lots of vegan/vegetarian restaurants actually aren't healthy with the abundance of fried components, but this place tasted light and clean. I was happy to find that this was still the case. Service was great years ago; an owner came by offering drink samples. Today, they offered chocolate samples at the register. They were out of straws, but one of them came to our table and helped cut our drink lid off. She later found a paper straw and dropped it off. We were done with the drink by then, but it's the thought that counts! The only negative was that there was some sort of photo shoot going on. Perhaps social media footage? The production staff took up most of the entrance and dining area, which made the space cramped. I think they should have closed indoor dining. We wouldn't have minded taking our food to-go, as it was already packaged for such. However, I'm sure we were just unlucky with the timing today. DRINKS ORDERED - Black Sesame Rice Milk ($4.29). Just alright, but consistency is not too thick. You can taste the sesame, and it's not too sweet. - Organic Rice Milk with Almond. Tastes like ground up barley. - Grass Jelly. Refreshing and slightly minty. - Moringa and Chia Seed Rice Milk. Earthy, with texture from the gelatinized chia. FOOD ORDERED - Cabbage Dumpling ($3.25). Vegan half-moon shaped dumpling as large as a big empanada. The skin was chewy and perfect thickness. Inside was stuffed with a loose filling of chopped glass noodle, cabbage, and bean curd. The seasoning was very light, almost bland but not quite. It was served room temp, a little cold. Though it tasted good, it would have been better warmed up. - Double Spices Bean Curd ($5.95). This cold side dish was too salty for me without rice, but I thought the diced bean curd had a good chewy texture. Red and green chili peppers added some freshness in contrast with the pickled dry radish. - Lunch set from 2019 ($8-9). I recalled the portion being large enough to take home. The rice was chewy, and the veggie fish was good and crispy with an actual fishy flavor. - Bean Curd Bun Rice lunch set ($12.99). It's actually 2 sheets of braised bean curd, not a bun. The bean curd sheets were juicy from soaking up the sauce, which had light notes of soy sauce, black bean, medicinal herbal flavor, and vinegar. There was a thinly sliced medley of bamboo shoots, wood ear mushrooms, and fake shredded pork that also tasted like the sauce. Lightly steamed or blanched broccoli lined the sides of the container. The multigrain rice was chewy, and the side of stir fried/boiled veggies (red and green cabbage, zucchini, corn, wood ear mushroom, fake fish ball, broccoli) was surprisingly umami. I appreciated that the sauces for each lunch set entree and vegetable side were not thickened with corn starch. (Sometimes I just get tired of that cooking style.) - Tri-cup Basil Chicken Rice lunch set ($12.99). The sauce tasted of ginger and soy, and not much of basil. While this wasn't the typical three cups chicken flavor, the fake meat had a deep roasted flavor. Meaty mushrooms stems and bell peppers were also included. My bf and I also took home some leftovers to stretch into a second meal.

Literally the best vegetarian food I ever tasted . I am not a vegetarian but I come here for their lunch often It's so tasty and doesn't make me sluggish after meal. I think probably because all their ingredients are organic. I feel so healthy when I eat here The staff and owners are super friendly. The owner greets all the customers whenever I am in the store 10/10 would recommend

Alright, slow your role, Jen! Why only 4 stars? Initially I thought maybe 3 stars. I had to really be objective. Firstly, some of the produce (fruits & veggies) aren't their most prime or freshest. If i give it about 70% is really great & only 30% not do great, then you have to see for yourself. I can guess there's Asian (including Indian), Mediterranean, Latino inspired products featured at this market. The staff all look hardworking. Two of the cashiers were very friendly. The place is like an indoor farmers market, equipped with swamp coolers to keep the produce fresh & the customers comfortable. I did see some flies buzzing around. I had a tough time rating this store but I was really drawn to the fact that it has so much to offer. One has to be mindful when selecting their products to ensure that what you choose is if the better quality though. All in all, I did go with my gut instinct & give them a 4 star. I love the variety & the friendliness of the staff. Will see if any of my purchases would disappoint me, hope not!

The center itself is a big shopping hub with plenty of parking. it's always bustling, but I swear, no matter how busy, you can always find a spot just maybe a little walk from the front. It's been a couple months since my last visit, and wow, they've added a fantastic new section right as you walk in on the right-hand side. Now, they have a cozy coffee and breakfast area! They brew fresh coffee and serve breakfast sandwiches from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The prices looked super reasonable, like breakfast burritos or a cheese sandwich and I can't wait to try them, though sadly, I got there in the evening, so it was already closed. Next time, for sure! Of course, Sprouts is known for its fresh sushi, bakery, and their custom sandwiches. they really do a sandwich bar better than a certain big chain (cough, Subway). The price is about $5.99 or $6.99 with chips and water so it's a steal. My only gripe? They used to have this pesto sauce( my absolute favorite) and chipotle, honey mustard and it's gone! Now it's just mayo or mustard, which is a bit of a bummer. Management, if you're reading this, bring back pesto! Despite that, it's still a crowd-pleaser, always a line for those sandwiches, and for good reason. One thing I'm not a fan of is their fresh meat section. it's nice, but always overpriced. Whether it's chicken, salmon, or beef, I just can't justify it. Trader Joe's has better variety for less. On the bright side, their fresh produce is always top-notch, big sections, tons of snacks, vitamins, and even a great soap bar selection (I always grab a few). I got a roast beef sandwich on whole wheat it was divine and some fresh prepared salad and salmon for later. Plus, they have at least eight self-checkouts so helpful when it gets busy. They take all major credit cards, and I love that they have both big and small carts the smaller one makes navigating those aisles a breeze. All in all, a fun stop, and I'll be back. just, please, bring back pesto sauce for sandwiches!!

This looked like a big ol' farm store and from the second I saw it, I was pretty darn excited. This large store features ample parking, tables outside, and a petting zoo that didn't actually have any animals, but maybe they were just inside. The shop itself is full of baked goods, clothing, drinks, and literally everything else you can usually find at a farm style store. I was super tempted to pick up a bunch of chocolate when walking around, but since it was pretty hot outside I had to settle for the farms own Orange Juice and a big fat rice crispy treat with chocolate and pretzel on top. The orange juice was OH SO refreshing on this hot day and the rice crispy treat was really good as well. Overall, The Cal Poly Pomona Farm Store is a great place to stop and pick up a few things. The produce was grown and picked by the CPP students. We also were able to purchase honey from CPP; the honey was produced at the school and jarred by students. There were about 8 food trucks. After we took a walk around, we went into the farm store. It was packed with people and the line was snaked around the interior of the store. Plenty of the usual stands. But sets this market apart from others are the hidden gems between stalls. For being an early morning market, there are a ton of hot food options - I picked up two tamales from the tamale person for $4 bucks a pop. Their prices haven't been inflated by the inflation. I also saw a Mediterranean stand and I'm pretty sure there was an Asian stand of some sort. What I loved about this market was the pastry guy, unapologetically located smack dab in the center of the market. All of his pastries run around $5-$6 dollars and everything I picked up was so delicious. I bought an almond croissant, a pistachio croissant, and a ham & cheese guy - all the croissants were phenomenally flakey. I also picked up a spinach and cheese quiche which made for a nice breakfast situation. Definitely come here for the pastries. Based on my observation, everyone was here for the seafood peddler. The line for this stand snaked around the market. Pretty. good options for being such a small market.
