Parking was easy but I can see it being difficult if you come during peak hours. Inside was beautifully decorated and clean! We put our name down and waited on the seats they had outside. Very conveniently they placed QR codes to their menu so you can start looking at what you want! My family and I are vegetarian but my future father-in-law does not eat onion and garlic for religious reasons. This makes things hard because majority of places rely on onion and garlic for the aromatics! But we saw that Basil & Co was able to accommodate this for us! It makes me so happy! The staff here is so nice and patience and made sure to double check our orders so it wasn't conflicting with our diet! I got the Tom Yum noodle soup (with rice noodle!) my fiancé got their pineapple fried rice with fried tofu, and my future father-in-law got their pad see ew. We were able to share amongst all of us and my goodness, the portions are HUGE. We were so full and stuffed! I really enjoyed the Tom Yum noodle soup! I got it medium spicy (my group cannot handle it too spicy) and it was so good. I loved the sour and spicy and the bits of lemongrass in it really packed a punch! The pineapple fried rice was okay, a bit smokey for my taste and it has raisins with cashews! The pad see ew was yummy, sweet and savory! The food here is really good. The only downside is that the wait can be pretty long. They do have a Yelp waitlist, but it seems like they prioritize reservations, so just keep that in mind before coming. The restaurant itself is really cute, clean, and pretty spacious. It can get a little loud when it's busy, but overall I really like the atmosphere. The pork belly is my favorite and something I get every time I come here. It's so good, and I love how the sauce and cucumber make the dish taste really refreshing. The pork jerky was also good and had a nice smoky flavor to it. The drunken noodles with beef were another highlight. The beef was super tender, tasted very fresh, and went perfectly with the noodles. Went to the store on a Saturday at around 11:30 AM. It was moderately busy but I was able to seamlessly grab a seat for two. Parking was plentiful in the plaza. By the time I left, there was line waiting in front. Pad Thai: Got this with no green onions. The pad thai leans towards the sweeter side. They only gave one lime. We didn't feel it was enough so we asked for another one. Pork jerky: This came with two sauces. One seemed to be more of a vinegar base and the other one was more savory one. Both were good. Jerky was crispy and packed full of flavor. Papaya salad with pork belly: This includes green peas and tomatoes as well. It tasted seasoned well. The pork belly was also crispy. This took a bit longer to come out but worth the wait. (Completely forgot to take a photo since I was looking forward to it too much!) I wasn't thrilled with the hands-off ordering approach by scanning the URL on the table and then placing your order. I'm old school and like a menu and waiter/waitress to assist me. They reluctantly acquiesced to our request, and our food was ordered. FOOD: We started with the 8-piece Crispy Wonton ($8.99) appetizer, filled with chicken and shrimp and a sweet/sour dipping sauce. For entrées, we ordered the Hot Basil Chicken ($17.99) and the Red Duck Curry ($22.99), both served with steamed white rice. I tried their pad see ew, yellow pumpkin curry, house fried rice, and Chinese broccoli with crispy pork. Literally, every dish was seasoned to perfection. All of the employees seemed pleasant, had a good attitude, and were quick to provide napkins, clean tables, and get me the check. The food here was delicious! I enjoyed every single dish that we ordered. The Crying Tiger was definitely premium priced, but splitting it between three people wasn't bad. It does come with quite a bit of meat. The flavors for all of these dishes are definitely there. This restaurant does Tom Yum very well, and overall I think that all of the spice-to-flavor ratios were solid. I'd recommend all of the dishes I ordered, and I'd probably stop by again to try other stuff. The pricing is modest, though elevated and higher than a normal take out Thai spot. This meal is worth the wait! Even at 8PM on a Friday, we waited 30 min for a table, and it was packed inside! With just 2 of us, we were seated at a four-person table. This is a great alternative for their popular crying tiger in terms of the portion and pricing. Papaya Salad: I was a bit disappointed with this. The papaya salad is lack of flavoring (specifically the garlic taste). It's not very marinated. Tom Yum Soup: We got a small bowl of the seafood tom yum soup. The portion is great for 2 people, but don't expect too much seafood from it. The flavor is good, so it's still a great soup option. Non-Sweet Sticky Rice: Unlike other places, their sticky rice is served as a dessert, you can still taste the coconut flavor. Most other traditional Thai places serve sticky rice as unsweetened and plain (i.e., jasmine rice soaked overnight). Not really mad about this. The service was absolutely amazing. We made a reservation ahead of time to avoid waiting in line. I'm glad we did because there were already people waiting when we arrived at 6pm. The restaurant is very clean and cozy. Let's just start with WE WILL BE BACK! The establishment is inside a very busy plaza. There are many options to dining around this little spot. However, I am very happy that we chose this one. The restaurant itself is extremely clean and is very modern. The way they have it setup makes it feel very spacious and you're not on top of everybody. The staff is extremely friendly, and you can tell that they are constantly busy. We regretted pretty much immediately. We were meeting up with some friends so we had about six people all together. They seated us in the corner which was perfect! We were able to have conversations and didn't have to speak any louder than our normal voices. The food was very good overall and they always came to check on us. Many of us ordered hot teas or hot water, which we were very happy that they would come and rewarm them. We ordered several dishes and truly enjoyed them overall. Wonton soup: 4. Broth was light and there were a good amount of wontons. Shrimp and veggies were yummy. Just wished that it came out hot. It was a tad cool. Spicy catfish was yummy, but seemed to be very westernized. It seemed that it was more like batter fish tossed in sauce and veggies. At most restaurants, the fish is more of a deep fry technique with a little bit more flavor. The pad see ewe beef (4) had the perfect texture. It was very well seasoned with a good amount of beef slices and veggies. It is a little bit more on the sweeter side than what we are used to but still very good. Chicken wings (3) We will probably not order this one. It was basically plain fried chicken wings with sauce on the side. It was okay and the flavor wasn't anything that stood out. All the other dishes were very tasty and we would say a 4 rating. It would probably would have been better if those dishes came out a little bit more warmer. It pairs well with the seafood sauce and cucumber salad that comes with it. Chicken satay is also tasty, really like the peanut sauce. The pad thai noodle with chicken is solid as well as Pad Wood Sen (glass noodles). I love the wide noodles they use on Pad See Ew, it helps absorb a lot of savory flavors from garlic and soy sauce. Salmon Panang is delightful and comforting; rich, creamy, slightly spicy and packed with flavor. It's served with a side of white rice. Also, Red Curry Beef is terrific, curry flavor is on point and perfect. Their special Garden Trout is very good. It's basically fried fish topped with mango herb salad which everyone loves. Basil & Co is a modern restaurant boasting traditional thai flavors. It is located by the freeway in Diamond Bar and tucked away in the corner of a plaza. The food here is good, nothing too remarkable but it gives you that warm, hearty feeling you want from traditional cultural cuisine. The tom kha (coconut) soup with shrimp was the highlight of my visit. Absolutely delicious and comes out hot and ready to eat. I can say that the spicy fried rice with chicken was enhanced greatly by the addition of juice from the lime that they provided, but was a bit lacking in flavor at first. Those first two dishes along with the stellar service and beautiful interior warrant 4 or 5 stars easily. However, the pad thai was not my favorite bite of food ever. It came a bit overcooked, the noodles being mushy and soft instead of chewy like I expected. The flavors and taste were solid, with the pad thai being a bit too sweet for my liking, even with the lime. But I did not enjoy the feeling of the noodles in my mouth. Overall, I think this place has lots to ride home about. A beautiful interior design, modernized dining areas, with big glass windows that let in a lot of natural light. The soup here is phenomenal, and the fried rice is good. I think if I came here again and ordered different dishes I would end up giving it 4 or even 5 stars, but that day was not today. We met our son here for a weekday lunch ... and really enjoyed the experience. Fortunately, we made a reservation because the restaurant was packed at 1:00pm -- the only open table was ours. FOOD (5/5) For lunch, we enjoyed: Braised Duck Noodle Soup (5/5) -- Delicious duck broth and noodles with assertive star anise flavor containing tender braised duck leg and wing section. This was one of the best duck noodle soups I've had anywhere. ($20.99) Spicy Catfish (5/5) -- Battered and lightly fried catfish -- perfect -- served with eggplant, bell pepper, carrot, basil, and rice. Excellent dish. ($24.99) Eggplant Basil with Pork (4/5) -- Basil is my favorite herb in Thai food, and it really came through in the eggplant stir fry. Very good and tasty. ($18.99) Overall, the spice levels were spot-on. AMBIANCE (4/5) The full restaurant had a loud noise level, making it difficult to carry on a conversation. Interior decor was simple but very nice. Lots of hard surfaces. SERVICE (5/5) -- We were greeted warmly. Overall service was excellent. Basil & Co. is off-putting our beaten track, but we'll be back. read more
