I have been wanting to try this restaurant for quite a while. Previously, Rootbound. Same owner. Both vegan and gluten free menu. Absolutely amazing. I love the spiritual feel of this restaurant from the decor, to the music, to the sweet demeanor of the girls at the counter. There is a bookshelf of books to read. Games to play. A wall of inspiring art and messages made by patrons. I first ordered the Lavender Mate Latte hot while waiting for a friend to arrive. Loved it! Later ordered the Breakfast Burrito Bowl with zucchini noodles and lots of yumminess! I can't wait to come back and try more of the menu items. Great getaway to treat yourself to some good food and be kind to yourself.

I've had good experiences in the past & have been a big fan of this place but unfortunately had a rough situation yesterday. My husband & I spent $300 for us both to do a standard 3-day juice cleanse here & were excited to start. We cleaned up the pantry & planned around doing this cleanse. We showed up at 3pm yesterday, which was a Sunday (our scheduled time to pick up the juices) & they had the closed sign up & door locked. No explanation posted online or in sight. Their hours showed they were supposed to be open another 2 hours & we could see employees inside cleaning up & talking on the phone laughing & talking. The man employee was behind the counter with no shirt on, which I found unsanitary considering his body hair was exposed to the equipment & prep stations. We tried to get their attention & called a few times but were completely ignored. We waited about 15 minutes hoping to get help, even leaving a message on voicemail. I called again this morning with no one picking up but Its been over 24 hours now and still have not been contacted. We've had to go through a whole headache situation through Toast (the third party company they use for their online orders) to cancel the order & get our money back just to find out the only way to get it is through Heartwood itself. I just can't believe a company would be this unprofessional & not try to at least explain or reschedule the order, which I could have been understanding about, but completely ignoring the situation is not okay. I'm disappointed because it's a vegan & environmentally conscious place, which is rare to find, but I don't want to support a business ran like this.

Where has this hidden gem been? I realize that I have found my food vibe and tribe right here on Main Street! Fresh vegan and gluten free breakfast and lunch that is healthy and flavorful made with intention. Not only is the physical space cozy and welcoming with great community space, the staff is so friendly and kind. I will make this my go-to lunch or breakfast stop- it's close to my office. Not feeling like a full meal? They have a wide selections of smoothie and cold pressed juices and I will make my way through the entire menu! I had the chickpea tika masala and the Joy juice. My friend had a gluten free grilled cheese and raves about it for hours after! She has a severe gluten allergy so we don't get to go out to restaurants much, they did this right- and they made a raving fan of me!

I've heard such good things about this place and had high hopes of a tasty treat. I wanted to try a dessert from a vegan restaurant so I stopped in to grab a treat to go. I was told they only had chocolate cake or cheesecake available, so I opted for the cheesecake. I was not informed that it was frozen, so it was an unpleasant surprise to find that it wasn't even edible by the time I got it home. Not to mention the freezer burn all over. Having paid over $8 for some trash is a major disappointment and deterrent from ever trying anything else here, honestly.

This is a complete GEM on Main Street. Everything on the menu is fresh, local, and carefully prepared. Lots of gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options to choose from. They feature Course Coffee and a number of other locally produced goods. Open mic night looks fun, I'll have to stop in for that sometime. This place will be on our regular rotation.

Enjoyed our visit to Rootbound. This place definitely has a hippy vibe with smoothies, juices, and other beverages as well as food options. The space is very welcoming and there are plants and crystals decorating the place. The staff were very attentive and friendly, gave us our drinks and some pointers on how to best enjoy. I did make the mistake of letting my kava shot settle, if I got one again I'd drink it right away. My tea was calming. A nice space to relax with friends in small groups. Parking is mostly street though there are a few lots in the area and it's easily walkable through the charming downtown St. Charles area.

came on a busy Sunday afternoon for the first time. I was able to secure street parking just a short distance away. When I entered, there was an Open Mic performer playing that was really good. The tables were pretty full, but i managed to grab one to have room for the friends who were joining me. The overall vibe there is very hip coffee shop. There is greenery in the front by the windows, interesting artwork on the walls, and lots of tables facing the large front counter. I was able to grab several tables for my group that was joining me. Other customers were kind and offered their tables as they left, so we had plenty of room, even though it was very busy that afternoon. Oh,and they have the coolest macrame seat hanging from the ceiling in one corner - it would be great place to read a book. There is also a large counter bar along a wall in the back! The food was mostly vegan and all gluten free. They have a wonderful drinks menu as well, and everything looks amazing. I got the Taco Salad, which was a secret menu option, and a maple coffee drink. Both were delicious! Each item is made to order so it takes a while for the food to come up. It was a wonderful way to enjoy an afternoon, and I'd love to come back to try more of the menu! Thanks Rootbound!

I'd suggest that people were there to visit downtown St. Charles, or whatever it's called, which has a certain old-timey charm to it, but everything else was closed--presumably until later in the day, but who knows. That fentanyl is a menace. Parking could be a pain, if it's not the wee hours of the morning on a weekend, and you're not ambulatory enough to walk from a block or two over, and yet you're going to get essentially the equivalent of a milkshake and a donut. Inside is rustic, inviting and larger than you'd think, with an upstairs area that I didn't bother to explore, due to lack of curiosity. We had a larger group and ended up pushing a few smaller tables together, plus a few chairs we borrowed from other tables. No one seemed to mind. The key is not to ask first. That mentality will take you far in both the world of finance and dating. I'm kind of over ordering food from coffee shops, where they're obviously just throwing something in the microwave and charging you $10 for it, but I needed something to eat. I'd just gone for a run. Their burrito looked like the textbook definition of cultural appropriation, but it also looked like it might not be half bad. I had their equivalent of an Egg McMuffin, called Ron's Breakfast Sandwich, or something to that effect. When I hear the name Ron, I of course think of Sasso from Carlito's Way, but that probably says more about me than anything else. I'm assuming he didn't have anything to do with this. Essentially, this was a store-bought English muffin, a surprisingly generous and delicious helping of cheddar cheese, a few slices of seemingly prepackaged black forest ham and a fried egg. It was fine for what it was. Could the egg have been salted, could the muffin have been buttered and could the ham been an actual slice of Canadian bacon, or even better, American bacon? Sure, but I went into this with low expectations. The cheddar was melty and delicious, and weirdly abundant, but processed American cheese would have been more fitting for this kind of sandwich. You'd think a guy named Ron wouldn't object to processed foods. The caramel frappe I had was amazing. I got it with whole milk and whipped cream. I didn't bother to check and see if they charge you extra for whipped cream, which is the kind of crap some of these places have been known to pull. I got the 16 oz instead of the 20 oz, but it was probably still enough to take a day off the end of my life (when I don't need it as much anyway fwiw). Sometimes, when a food item tastes good enough, you can just tell it's not good for you, and that was the case with this drink. It was decidedly rich. I'm never in this part of town, and if I were, it would be at night, natch, but if things ever get to the point where they're clearly trending in that direction, I might start stopping by on the reg and getting that caramel frappe just to speed along the process of my demise.

The shop itself is so cute and when you walk in it smells amazing! The staff is always so friendly as well. We have tried nearly every dessert but our favorites are the cheesecakes and warm date cake. There are so many varieties of cheesecakes and all that we have tried have been great! The honeycomb bread is also good. This particular visit we enjoyed the knafeh cheesecake and chocolate cake. I really enjoy how their desserts are sweet but not overly sweet. It's the perfect pairing with a coffee, which btw are also wonderful. Our favorite is the Mofawar. The spices in it are so yummy and we've enjoyed it both hot and iced. So peaceful, beautiful, and the perfect start to our morning! What truly made the experience exceptional was our server, Jenn. She was incredible from start to finish!! She was warm, attentive, and genuinely thoughtful. She made great recommendations, checked on us at all the right times, and went above and beyond in ways you don't see often. My husband is picky about biscuits and gravy, and Jenn kindly brought him a sample of the gravy first to make sure he'd like it...such a small gesture to some people, but truly made it special for my husband. She even sent us off with coffee to go, which we really appreciated!! The food was just as impressive. I had the traditional breakfast. Everything was cooked perfectly, the potatoes were nice and crispy, Jenn recommended the ham, which was so flavorful and perfectly charred, so good!!! Jenn truly made it memorable, and we'll definitely be asking for her every time we come back. Can't wait to return!!

What a charming cafe in the middle of a charming Downtown area!…read more It was freezing the morning we went in, but I was wanting breakfast - specifically pancakes. I had this place in the bookmarks and figured now was the best time to visit. Parking can be an issues in Downtown St. Charles since it is limited to street parking or public parking a few blocks away. We found parking right in front of FPC, mainly because it was a cold, Monday morning. We were greeted immediately, and inside was much smaller than I expected. We got seated right away though, and a good chance to really review the menu. I got a house coffee (delicious), and my husband got a Purple Haze Lemonade. We ended up getting a kid's pancake with bacon and scrambled eggs, Short Rib Breakfast Stack, and a Bomb Burrito. The pancake for my 2 year old was MASSIVE so it was a good day for him lol. The short rib stack was yummy - hash browns with runny eggs and meat on top. The burrito was also pretty good. Our breakfast entrees came with a side order of potatoes and while it was good, it got saltier over time so I might not get that next time. They advertise beignets, so we might go for that next time and try out their lunch menu!
