We had such a fun and special experience here! What started out as a quick pit stop to grab some kombucha for the road turned into a heartfelt encounter with the owner who graciously gave us his time and stared the story behind the business. We were the only ones there during our visit (right at opening) so we were able to soak in some one on one time learning about their fermenting process and seeing behind the scenes in the kitchen where the kombucha, krauts and so on ferment. It was a veggie and free heaven of all things funky. I love krauts, kimchi, horseradish, etc. so seeing how they break down the ingredients and experiment with flavors made it all the more special. In addition to offering a lineup of made in house vegan eats, they offer "try before you buy" kombucha samples and feature at least a dozen types on the menu. We ended up purchasing three kinds- watermelon rind, rhubarb and pineapple (mixed with another ingredient that I'm blanking on now). All were packed with flavor and lacked the overly sweetened vibe that can often be found in other mass produced kombucha. Confluence Kombucha has been on my list of places to try for a long time and I finally got to experience it! It is in a popular area with a lot to do so I could see myself coming here to pick up some kombucha then having a nice walk on a sunny day. What I ordered: we split the kombucha flight. There is no way I could remember all of the flavors, but I loved the pineapple and turmeric! (Maybe it didn't have turmeric. I can't remember. It was definitely the pineapple one though!) We were only slightly hungry so we ordered the sample of 3 different types of kimchi. The last time I had tried kimchi I was 10 and I hated it so I decided to give it another try. Well, I still hate it. But that's not their fault! If you like kimchi, I'm sure it's good here! The place is very small and I'm sure it fills up on some nights! We were talking to who I assume is the owner. He is super energetic about what he does! You can tell he cares about the quality of the restaurant. This place is right next to the URB and two doors West of Urban Chestnut in the Grove. I say this because it's not a space that really grabs your attention beyond the patio tables outside. Once inside you see a small dining area and a pos terminal and bar area with taps, tinctures and a small cooktop and lots of growlers cups, plates and accoutrements. This guy is so passionate about food and kombucha, there is literally no one else I'd want making mine. He is a treasure trove of information and invites you to see and experience what he's offering. It'd be perfect for a YEE (just saying)! We should all be more like the owner and living our passions daily. The unique flavor profiles are unmatched and with 8 different varieties on tap each week, it keeps me interested and engaged as a full fledged kombucha follower. My gut has never been happier and seeing what he does with tea varietals and hops and even black limes, I'm never bored (which for me is saying a lot). They also have a really good food menu, you should try and order curbside and get a 16 oz or more of Kombucha. We need to take care of businesses like these and frequent them often to keep not only their dream alive but be a small part of it. Feels good, and tastes even better! read more

A++++ Maybe the best vegetarian food I've had at a restaurant. Inventive dishes with delicious ingredients. I'm so happy we decided to give Confluence Kombucha a try. We ordered scrapple, mushroom, and a kimbap taco. All three were ridiculous. I'm not even sure I can pick a favorite. We also got the 8 pours flight of kombuchas. We loved all of them except the artichoke leaf one - very bitter. The chaga was my favorite. Very good. As an added bonus, the sous chef (Dominic, I believe) was delightful. I came here for the first time on their one year anniversary party, so I think it was a bit crazier than expected. Aside from that, the staff was doing their absolute best to make sure everyone was happy, so I give them five stars in the service department. The restaurant it cozy inside and specializes in a rotating, mostly vegetarian menu that will not make you miss meat. We split a flight of kombucha and a plate of dips. They dips and crackers were incredibly hearty and filling - I ended up taking some dips home! Normally, I drink kombucha from the refrigerator, so it's cold. When you get it here it's "room temperature", so be prepared for that if you're not used to it. Menu: Skip the appetizers, except for the mushroom dish and the radish with fake cheese. The 18-sampler is the most overrated thing on the platter, IF you're eating dinner here. Almost every flavor is a repeat. We had their dinners, and here's whatI think - everything tastes delicious except it is missing a base or staple meal. What a cool spot! I went with a friend on a Friday night for kombucha flights. I was super impressed with our server's knowledge of all the different flavor profiles of the kombucha including the medicinal properties. I'll be honest- I was insanely skeptical. When told we were having dinner at an all vegan, all vegetarian, gastropub, I rolled my eyes and resigned myself to doing something truly millennial (note: I'm a millennial) But holy moley guys... I'm a very solid meat eater, but right now I'm so incredibly full and happy and I feel GOOD. The menu is... adventurous. I didn't know 60% of the words on the menu. Turns out, I didn't need to. I got the squash, my husband the curry soup. Our friends got a random assortment of oddities too. Each one was delicious in a unique way. This is what an experimental gastropub should be and it's awesome. And adventurous! Trying new things that you can't pronounce deserves extra credit. The place is adorable and cozy. The chef prepares all the meals behind a small counter and is available to answer questions from us noobs. They make or grow everything in house. Their staples are pickled veggies and fruits and they have their own fermentation room you can check out from the hallway. If you've never had Kombucha fix it now. I have gastropariesis and this stuff is it's own medicine. Also it's delicious! Think apple cider vinegar but tasty and carbonated. Have a flight of Kombucha to sample and you won't be sorry. I love kombucha and have always stuck to Whole Foods bought brands in the past. I am super excited to have found Confluence which offers freshly brewed local kombucha straight from the tap. They are a tiny shop located in the Grove with friendly staff. You can sample any of their rotating flavor varieties that are always really inventive. I have a 32 oz mason jar I purchased from them at the Tower Grove Farmer's Market which allows me $1 off refills. Since it's carbonated the jar usually lasts me around 3 days before it starts going flat so I drink it pretty quickly. Their food menu includes creative vegetarian and vegan options which I plan on returning to try. They also offer tasting flights to try all of their kombucha flavors which would be a great option to enjoy with lunch. Highly recommend! read more

This was hubby and I's first time in St Louis. I researched vegetarian/vegan places to eat and this was on a top 10 list. We walked in and discovered that the place only seats approximately 12 people. We were greeted by a young lady and told we could sit anywhere we liked. I always look at prices first. HOLY COW this place was listed as ($$) 2 dollar sign on Yelp. I was shocked! These prices do not represent a 2 dollar sign, restaurant. But I discovered that I needed to keep in mind, I was paying for the fresh food and the presentation. The chef obviously cares about each dish he plates. As a vegan I will try anything once, so I was open to pretty much anything on the menu. It all sounded wonderful and the aroma coming from the grill had me salivating. I ordered the "mushroom" and hubby ordered 3 "tacos" (avocado, sweet potato and tempeh). Because the place is so small, there is one person doing the cooking, it takes about 15 minutes to get your meal. The hostess/waitress brings you a flavored water, which was very nice and refreshing. We watched others get their food and listed as the waitress told the patron what they ordered. We were getting excited! Our meals arrived, we sampled each others dishes and fell in love with the place! The best flavors we have ever had. Hubby actually said, "These are the best tacos I have ever tasted." I recently went here with a friend on a rainy day. She got the fermentation exploration, I have eaten it previously (though in a different season) and I love the variety! I ended up getting a stuffed avocado with a flight of combucha and some of their delectable truffles. The stuffed avocado was delicious, a great blend of creamy, savory, and sweet. They have a way of combining flavors in such an interesting way. I always enjoy the kombuchas, they have a variety to choose from they they make inhouse. The food and kombucha use fresh ingredients and are interesting, creative flavor combinations. The presentation is also beautiful (so many colors!). On the negative side, their portion sizes are almost comically small and the prices are pretty high but arguably, you're paying for the quality of the ingredients. Sort of weird observation but my hair wreaked of old smelly grease for days after my last visit (I've been here several times and this was an isolated incident but relatively unpleasant nonetheless)- which is strange considering I don't think they use grease! When we left he was no where to be found for at least 15 minutes. We called in the back room for him with no response.
