I really wanted to like this company. The aesthetic, the marketing, the promises--they all suggest…read morea high standard of professionalism. But my experience didn't reflect that. There were noticeable gaps in communication, and it felt like no one was really on the same page. I had to follow up multiple times just to get basic information, and the level of organization behind the scenes didn't match the polished exterior. Something just felt off. It's possible they're going through changes or growth pains, but from what I saw, there are deeper issues with consistency and leadership. I ended up moving on and choosing a different company.

Am a devoted fan of John Paul Design Build! Have now had considerable experience with both their…read moredesign and construction services, first on 2 institutional projects in Warrenton, including new construction of an outdoor pavilion followed by a significant security vestibule interior remodel , where the quality of their workmanship was evident at every step of the way. They were extremely attentive to the scheduling needs of the institution, working over Holiday periods so that no normal operations were disrupted and responding immediately to an unanticipated issue, addressing it very creatively and professionally for the client. JPBD also did a home remodel project for me in Herndon on an early 90's house that desperately needed a new staircase design, laundry room relocation, addition of a bathroom, improved flow throughout the first floor, and numerous HVAC adjustments to accomplish. Their crews were on time, on task, and very easy to work with. They will be back for future projects! Darragh Davis

So, check this out. I brought Benton a cabinet door that was cracked and in pretty bad shape (it…read morewas from a 1987 kitchen) and Benton did his best to explain the type of work he could do to repair it. After a couple of phone calls, I understood that the tooling and dies that his shop has is set up for newer cabinets and to repair my door would be very expensive. After he quoted me the cost, I declined the offer. He then had the cabinets dropped off at my office. I did not ask him to do that. Here is the point of this review-I was NOT a paying customer and District Woodworking took time out of their day so I wouldn't have to take time out of my day to pick up the doors at their office. I have no doubt about how they would service a PAYING customer. If I ever need new kitchen, closet, etc. cabinets, District will be my first call.

My cabinets…read moreare so modern, I'm pretty convinced I won't have to upgrade for many years to come, so I'll just wait for everyone else to catch up. They're the absolute first thing everyone notices when they walk into my kitchen. Benton did a phenomenal job working with me on the design. He was very patient and worked tirelessly to complete my design, fabrication and installation in record time. Now, I swear when I go into other kitchens, the cabinets look dated. I'm probably a few years ahead of the "kitchen cabinet curve." If you're truly looking to take your kitchen to the next level, don't hesitate to give him a call.

Highly recommend As It Should Be for your custom carpentry project! Shlomo was patient and offered his input as we figured out what design and materials we wanted. His team was able to move an outlet, build and install the shelving and cabinets, and mount the TV. We are very happy with how it turned out! Just a note that they specialize in custom work and keep a busy calendar so it may take some months from start to finish. Our project took even longer due to holidays and other work being done at our house. The price was higher than other companies we got quotes from due to the custom work but we felt it was well worth the quality!

From the moment we reached out, Shlomo was prompt, responsive, and understanding of first-time homeowners on their first project. Shlomo came to our house and walked through with me the two concepts I had in mind. He asked key questions that helped better shape the ideas, took the necessary measurements, then followed up in short order with a clear proposal and quote. The pricing was competitive and within our budget. Once we decided to move forward, the team delivered on the carpentry faster than we expected. Max and the team who did the carpentry were friendly and understanding of two tired parents who had to work in the house through the day. The work they performed was impeccable. The final product? 1) Built-in bookshelves with a table-height counter and drawers below: a showstopper and the new centerpiece of our living room; and 2) a ceiling-high pantry cabinet in our kitchen, attached to a new counter with a built-in garbage/recycling drawer. We are thrilled with the quality of these pieces, which have truly made our new home our own. If you are looking for cabinetry work in the DC-area, we unequivocally recommend you go with "As It Should Be." They will do great work for you.

At the moment Justin is a one-man operation, and as a result he will require more time to complete his job than the big boys (e.g. California Closets when it comes to custom built-ins). The big boys, though, use particle board (whereas Justin uses birch plywood) and farm out the manufacturing operation to a factory to get things cut quick and have a install design (whereas Justin cuts everything himself in his own home, transports it himself and has to do all the alignments himself). I thought I had a civil engineer in my house measuring the curvature of my walls, that is how detailed he is. I asked Justin about what other kinds or work he does. He does all kinds of remodeling, including bathrooms among other things (although he will contracts out the plumbing for example). The big guys generally have a lead time of like 2-3 months. Justin's lead time is probably 1 month or so. He is extremely flexible. Very punctual too. I highly recommend him.
