I typically do not write this kind of review, but the service I received on 6/14 was unacceptable and I could not get over how it soured my day. I had a Groupon for a pedicure here, and upon reviewing their website noted that they had 20% off for their opening and that gel nails were 45, so even though I normally go to Enjoy Nails in Palo Alto I thought why the heck not, I'll go here this week. The establishment is fine, but the woman who greeted me was on the phone, and remained on the phone while she started my pedicure. Any semblance of a "heavenly" spa experience was gone. A second woman came later, who started my nails, filing them down to thin stubs. Then we moved to the table, at which point the woman that had been doing my toes (who by the way, didn't wear a mask the entire time I was there) began blow drying her hair right behind me. Unhygienic and unprofessional. The manicurist finished my hands, at which point both women wandered into the back, seeming unsure of what to do next. Then the pedicurist/apparent hair stylist in training walked out on the phone again, demanding 55. I explained that wasn't what was on the website, pulling out the list for them to see. She saw the listed price, then got back into a heated conversation on the phone, at which point she hands the phone to me, informing me that it's the owner. This woman is ultimately why I wrote this review. If you want to create loyal clientele at your new business, I wouldn't recommend yelling at them over the phone. Nor would I recommend trying to bargain: this is a business, not a flea market. She insists that the service I received (pictured below, as well as what I had asked for) was not gel, but dip, despite my initial request over the phone and in person for gel and that my total was 55. I again showed the menu, and the pedicurist woman took pictures of my phone for her boss, but she continued to yell at my that it was 55. Then she said she could do 20% off 55 for 45. That's just not even the correct math. I really just wanted to leave at this point, as I was tired of being berated and paid the 44 (20% of 55) plus tip. They only accept Venmo or Zelle, which is beyond sketchy. The pedicurist then apologized to me, saying that she has to call her boss because if they get the wrong price they get yelled at. Not only do the employees not know what the prices are, the owner is rude to them. I wholeheartedly do not support this establishment and will not be returning. read more

My mani/pedi was fairly rushed and I was pretty disappointed with how many of the edges of my nails weren't even painted! I pointed out, but it still really wasn't fixed. I understand that it was a busy afternoon, and I'm not trying to be difficult customer, but I think the edges could have been cleaner and painted with more care. I don't know how this place got 5 stars. First of all I'm not 100 % sure they sanitize their tools, second: their little bowls for soaking feet felt kinda slimy. The lady who was doing my manicure was clipping my toenails with a cuticle remover!!! They didn't have credit card machine, so she sent me to the bank to get cash with freshly painted nails! I had a Living Social for service. When I called I was told they had never contracted with Living Social and I would have to pay full price. Duh...I did not make this up. I had the certificate with the salon name, instructions for certificate redemption, phone number and address. I was offended with the lie and dishonesty. I could have argued the point, but I did not want to get service from someone with sharp instruments who was mad about giving it to me. Update: After posting this review the proprietor called to say "That was not nice." Three comments to proprietor: 1) check contracts when you sign them. Groupon and Living Social are the same company and coordinate offers across platforms. 2) customer relations...the correct response in the phone call would have been, "how can we make this better?" 3) Los Altos is chock full of nail salons. Based on customer relations and business acumen, don't know if this one will survive. read more

On October 3, we went to visit friends in Los Altos and I had some time to get a mani/pedi. I walked into Ann's nails without an appointment. Ann was friendly and welcoming, but already had another client, so Nancy did my manicure. I chose my colors with great input from Nancy. I got a regular mani (no gels, no acrylics, nothing fancy). It is now October 21 and the tips of my nails have just started peeling - seriously - and not that badly! I have never had a manicure that lasted this long - and I've been doing regular house work and office work! If this salon wasn't 500 miles away from my home, I'd be a regular client! I've been going to Ann since I moved to California in 1986 (26 yrs). I'm EXTREMELY picky about my nails and Ann has always been professional and patient with my requests. I now live 125 miles away and make the 2 1/2 hr drive to have Ann do my nails. I've tried others closer to home but Ann's stay on for weeks where all others lift and look terrible after days. You will pay a little more than other "drive through" like shops, but you will need to have them done more often so you're not saving anything. read more

I thought my previous nail technician did a nice job on my gel nails until I met Ann. Ann does not use any additives to her polishes. She is meticulous and is an all around expert when it comes to nail shape and color choices. I appreciate the fact that Ann's salon is not your typical crowded nail salon cranking out dozens of manis and pedis per hour. I have been going to Ann's Nails for years. She does a spectacular job, has a great sense of colors and has been very accommodating when I need to change my appointment. My 100 year old Mom for the last 5 years of her life only wanted Ann to do her pedicure and trim her toenails that were difficult to handle. She lived in Santa Rosa and I would bring her down to Ann for her pedicures! She said that the way Ann was able to make her feet look beautiful so she was not embarrassed to wear sandals.
