After hearing that this is the best burger in Charleston for months, I finally got to eat at Heavy's! We were quickly met by the hostess and were seated immediately outside which is what we wanted, so it was great. Service overall was pretty quick. The only reason I'm docking 1 star is because we ordered a bottle of rosé and it was not chilled or anything. Which is fine because we are not picky customers and it is pretty casual dining, and we just needed some ice, but it would have been nice to have the wine chilled. A negative that can plague a Downtown restaurant is always the parking, but with an onsite lot, and street parking sandwiching heavy's, finding a spot is never a problem. Upon entering you seat yourself, if able to find a spot because this place can get pretty busy. After finding a seat, a few minutes later one of the servers brought us a bottle of water and placed our drink order. My fiancé and I shared a $24 pitcher of beer that yielded around 2 drinks per person. The selection of local beers is appealing and good value for the pitcher. For appetizer, we tried their onion rings which were spectacular! Generous round onions and lightly battered, the $8 small basket can feed around 2-3 people. For the entree I noticed the patty melt which is my go-to and my fiancé went with the bacon onion burger. The patty melt itself was so juicy and soft, 20/10, loved every bite of it! We were interested in the lemon box pie but learned later it was never placed on the tab so didn't get a chance to try it. It was for the better because the meal itself was filling. Service was friendly and quick to order. I think we were around a timeshift change because our 2 rotating servers never came back to close the check. We figured we would approach the counter to close the check and pay but learned that the counter was for takeout only. They are super convenient to access with their big gravel parking lot and ordering online option. Food was ready after about 15 minutes (on a busy Saturday lunch rush) and was so good. Our group got the OG barburger (classic burger kinda vibe) and the uncle Gene's Ranchero (think sweet and Smokey). The produce and condiments to ration of burger were perfect and they hit the spot. We also got the sweet potato fries, regular fries, and a side of onion rings. Don't be deceived by the order of onion rings only being 5 - they are big around as a desert plate. We both got the barburger, and I thought maybe it was just mine, so I didn't say anything, then my dining partner mentioned theirs was super salty... then the woman at the table next to us told the waiter hers was super salty! They have their own parking which is a must in Charleston. They are a bit north of downtown Charleston so it's removed from that crowd but a great locals place. I used to go to Heavy's when I first moved here, but over the past six months, the overall quality at the original location has diminished. I don't know what the issue is - did they send their best people to Johns Island? Tonight I went for the first time in about 3-4 months because of that lackluster visit, but tonight convinced me it wasn't a fluke. Even when it was packed, you'd get your burger in a decent amount of time. Tonight it was not busy at all, and I still had to wait almost 40 minutes for one burger. And, when it arrived, the "smash" patties were so crushed, it was like putting a pancake on a hamburger bun. So, of course, when you went to eat it, it all falls apart because of how badly they burn and smash the patty. Service at this location used to be too notch; I didn't recognize one person from my past visits, and the ones who were there looked like they'd rather be someplace else. My server in particular (with Roman numerals tattooed on her arm) was completely miserable and only came back to the table when the meal was completed. Ambiance was okay, and the music was fine with basketball was on the screens. Parking is easy as they have a free lot which is always nice downtown - it is a bit bumpy as a heads up and there is also street parking. The staff were all super nice and helpful.
