Great service and food is excellent. Really good wings. The only negative and it's kind of a big issue is the bar appears to serve a few folks that should be cut off. There was a guy there at the bar drinking a pint glass of whisky. Apparently he's a regular but walking by him you could smell how far gone he was from an inebriation and poor hygiene perspective. I love a good sports bar with great food but they need to clean up a few of these bar flies and focus on insuring their patrons are not driving home way over the legal limit as this guy clearly was. Kickin Chicken is a staple in MtP. It's consistent you know what you're going to get and you can normally please a crowd (as long as they like chicken). I visit often for a quick bite to eat and it's a great place to watch football. On Saturday and/or Sunday! They have good beer bucket deals and normally some food specials as well. The 25 nugget deal for $15 is delicious. You get to choose to have them tossed in different sauces and the ranch is perfection. The bartenders are great and attentive and are always willing to find your favorite game on one of the many TVs. The wrap around bar with the outdoor section is the best part. Disaster, poor service, the food was chick fil a quality on a good day and our waitress asked us after we ordered our item, "what side" like it was included- which it was not. I went to Kickin' Chicken expecting a decent meal and fair pricing -- instead, I got overcharged and misled. Two burgers were listed around $16.49 each, which clearly stated they came with fries or a side substitution. We chose side salads fried pickles and two soft drinks. The total should have been somewhere around $45. Instead, the bill came back absurdly inflated to ---65 Bucks---- with an $8 upcharge for a salad and $8.50 for two sodas -- completely unreasonable. To make matters worse, the waitress first claimed she hadn't added those extra charges -- but when I checked the receipt, there they were. I had to call the manager back and practically beg for a refund. That's not how you treat customers. This kind of pricing and dishonesty is unacceptable. Between inflated menu prices, surprise add-ons, and staff unwilling to take responsibility, this experience felt like a total rip-off. I recommend ordering it with grilled chicken as I felt the fried version tasted overly salty. The medium sauce was just right. If you're eating in the restaurant the fries might be good, but they did not do well as a takeout side because they got cold quickly. They were pretty generic and had minimal salt so maybe just skip them altogether. Feel that I made some ordering flaws that impacted my rating of Kickin Chicken. We came out tonight for a couple reasons - to catch some Sunday Night Football, to have Kickin Chicken because we can't get this where we moved to, and to hang out. We were seated almost immediately and were told we could sit wherever we wanted. We chose a high top table near the bar. All of the TVs were set to SNL so pretty much any seat was a good view of the game. We got banging shrimp and cheese curds. Husband ordered 12 wings (his usual) with 2 different types of dry rubs - ranch and buffalo. I don't recall our server's name, but she was great! She was on top of everything and made sure we had everything we needed before we were out of anything. She checked on us often and we laughed about how she'd show up at our table without us knowing she was there until she said something to us. I used to go to Kickin Chicken probably once a week when I went to CofC (they had the best trivia nights) so it was fun to get a little taste of nostalgia on my latest trip home. I definitely overdid it on the fried food, as we started with the fried pickles and then I got a fried Kickin chicken sandwich and a side of Bobby fries. Needless to say I really needed a nap after. We came with 3 kids under the age of 4 and the staff handled the chaos perfectly. They brought crayons and paper and interacted with them super sweetly. Just had a really great meal here. We started with the southwestern chicken egg rolls. They were very good. Loved the dipping sauce and it was a generous portion of food. My son and I split the chicken and waffles. We were charged an additional $1.00 but it was way more convenient to have the meal split in half for us. (I think we actually got more bacon!) My son loved his chicken. The Belgian waffles are like crack. Soooo yummy. They have some sort of sugar crusted on them. My husband had wings. He likes them crispier but enjoyed the Thai chili. My favorite thing to get here is Buffalo Chicken Wrap (medium). They have great food, plenty of TVs and a lively atmosphere that makes it a great place to go with friends or just to watch a big game! The patio is dog friendly and they have dog bowls (always a plus). The bathrooms are always clean and fully stocked. I absolutely love their ranch, coming from someone who used to not like ranch, and if they sold it in a bottle, I would buy it! Sometimes easy takes precedence over everything else. One of my favorite vacation activities is discovering new places to eat that I can't get at home. On vacation I'm going to be doing things I don't normally have the time or opportunity to do, and I try to keep that same vibe when it comes to food. I want local dining I won't find back home. It's the Vacation Restaurant Rules (VRR). I want different! There are, of course, limits. Hiking days, for example, just work better when you pack a sandwich to eat on the trail rather than start back mid-morning to find a restaurant for lunch. Sometimes at the end of those days, too, heading back, cleaning up, then heading back out again for sustenance is too much for tired muscles. Any drive-thru on the way back to the hotel will suffice. After a long day of activities coupled with evening plans for the beach still to come, my family and I were in a such a circumstance. We needed dinner, but not at a formal sit-down place that would take a lot of time. This was further complicated being in town for Charleston's busy season. Reservations for all the top-rated places were booked up long ago. The first page of Yelp was useless as nothing was available until well off normal dinner hours. This situation, then, was the perfect opportunity for "fast casual." Kickin' Chicken was a short drive down the road from our Mount Pleasant hotel, and we had already passed it the evening before. We knew exactly where it was and how easy it would be to get there. It's a chain, but a regional one without a place in our home region. Strict adherence to the tenants of the VRR prohibit visiting chain restaurants, but a time crunch and no local franchise fall into a gray area. Kickin' Chicken also offered outdoor seating, so I nominated it for dinner. Despite arriving during prime dinner hours, we were seated with no waiting. Right off the main road through the middle of Mount Pleasant, the outdoor ambiance is a mix of bar and grill and traffic. Every TV has a sports channel on. The endless stream of cars and trucks traveling up and down the main road through Mount Pleasant make themselves known from the time you sit down to when you pay the bill. Don't expect an intimate vibe. Open the menu and you'll find the typical selections of any bar and grill, only with a slightly more chicken-centric theme as you would expect given the name. Appetizers of chips and queso, mozzarella sticks, fried pickles, and nachos. Standard salads with and without chicken. Burgers and wraps. Fries, sweet potato fries, and tots. And, of course, chicken in tender, nugget, or wing form factor. I ordered my chicken in strip form, paired with waffles. The chicken strips were done properly, juicy with a nice breading. The waffle was a Belgian style with sugar crystalized on the top for an extra hit of sweetness. Add in the maple syrup and this was a fun meal. My teenaged son also ordered this and gave it his seal of approval. The only demerit was the chicken-to-waffle ratio. Not enough chicken to eat with each bite of waffle. This is mitigated somewhat because the waffle itself is good on its own, but is something to note. Also, to really bury the lede on this dish, the chicken and waffles also came with *bacon.* The rating goes up one star on that fact, alone. My younger daughter ordered her poultry as nuggets. Prepared just like the strips, they were also fine. So were her fries. My wife went contrarian, choosing a burger. It's a fair question to ask why someone orders beef when you're at a place that specializes in chicken. As a married man of more than twenty years however, I know better than to do so. Especially on vacation. I'm not stupid. Mostly. She paired the burger with sweet potato fries and thought both were fine. I sampled one of the orange waffle-cut fries and thought they needed to be crispier. Overall Kickin' Chicken is a good place as long as you're into its type of thing. If you're looking for an easy, casual bar-and-grill that will feel familiar even though you've never been there before it works well. Drop in, order a chicken entree (sorry, Dear), and you'll have a fine casual dining experience. Maybe eat inside during rush hour, though. read more

Yesterday I was craving some wings and in the area so I placed a Covid takeout order. I called it in and was able to pick in up in 20 minutes or so. It took a little longer, but that's okay. I got home and unpacked everything to find that it was all exactly as ordered... right down to the number of sauces. We all know the disappointment of incorrect takeout orders so this is was a big win. We got 24 wings, cheese stuffed pretzels and a side of onion straws. I don't know why the onion straws aren't on the menu, but you can still get them if you ask. I tossed them in the air fryer for a few minutes when I got home and they were perfect again.
