Came here with my 2 buddies. I'm not sure who served us but when I was reading on Google reviews I heard about Derrick and he seems like the man. He seems super solid and nice and kind. I feel like he would be the type of guy I would go to a museum with and we would pregame and end up pregaming after which I know would be a postgame but he sounds like the man. Sounds like that guy I want to be around.

Junior Deluxe Burgers & Curly Fries

A great casual burger spot right off King Street. We ordered two junior deluxe burgers with curly fries. The employee (I wish we got his name) was kind enough to bring us one of each of their signature sauces. I loved getting to try all of the sauces in combination with the curly fries. Amazing service and a great meal. It's a perfect stop if you want something quick, satisfying, and casual while exploring downtown. I would definitely come back.

Loved this spot in CHS! Joyland gives the ultra retro vibes with the most delicious diner food! Their smash burger was paper thin and still juicy. To die for! Curly fries had a nice taste, but wish they were slightly crispier! Staff was so friendly to me & others who needed help (first timers)! Check this place out!

Finally got to try out Joyland and I have to say the burgers were legit, we tried the regular smash burger and then the burger that was fully smashed (which came with its own special sauce). I have to say the crinkle fries were ok, maybe should have tried the curly fries instead. We did notice that the inside was very warm so we enjoyed our food in the outside alleyway, not sure if the AC was broken or something. The employees were very nice and helped going over the menu with us. If you want a legit burger and your downtown, make sure you stop by Joyland!

Joyland is quite literally what's in the name. I went in with my husband after a date night show and it did not disappoint. My husband is a chef and was excited to get me learned an all Chef Sean Brock of Husk has done for the culinary industry. So saying I was excited was an understatement. Walking into the establishment, you're greeted by bright colors and warm smells. The menu is simple and catered for the burger connoisseur. (There's an impossible burger in there for you non-meat-eaters) BUT THE FLAVORS- OMG! In short, they have delicious burgers, fries and nicely crafted milkshakes. Perfect for families, I can't wait to bring the little for a bite.

Not bad for a smash burger experience! The burger was good-but seemed like from the craze it would change my life. Good addition to King St, but might be over price the college students there- even though it's fast-casual Good drunk food or pregame food spot. The decor is very retro 60s cafe vibe. The service was prompt, but ordering location was a bit confusing. They serve alcohol too at the cafe bar-if that's your desire for a cafe.

Quite honestly probably the worst burger I've ever had. Also, the inside definitely needs a deep cleaning. The staff even seemed unhappy that we came in. I will say the value was fine for this close to King St. I believe the Junior Burger was $7.

Dipstick chicken, curly fries, and the crustburger in all its glory
    John G.

Charleston-legend Sean Brock opened up a location of his Nashville hot spot Joyland here so naturally I had to check it out, and it definitely didn't disappoint! I got myself a crustburger (think a smashburger with two patties, cheese, and onions on a bun that is also smashed like a pancake) as well as a "dipstick": dark chicken meat deep fried and covered in a BBQ sauce (with a little bit of hot sauce mixed in). The dipstick was ok but I loved the burger and curly fries. They were extremely filling and heavy - I don't know if they're cooked in lard or butter or whatever but just one double smashburger was more than enough for me. Curly fries are my jam and they hit perfectly. Joyland also offers crinkle fries but I ordered enough as it was. Washed it all down with a bottle of Mexican coke! As of writing this review they opened a little over a week prior to today, so they're still working out some kinks. The fountain machine wasn't operating and they only offered water and sweet tea outside of canned drinks. Our food took a while to come out, and this was before the lunch rush came in, so who knows how they handled that pressure when they're busy. Luckily these are easy fixes and shouldn't effect them in the long run (at least I would assume not). While the food was excellent, I don't see myself making another trip out of my way to go back. If you're downtown, it's worth a stop. If not, you can go to another establishment and probably get a good burger at a comparable price and maybe a little faster than what we ended up waiting for. I'd recommend to check it out though, if only to say you tried it.

I wanted a quick lunch and needed to use my birthday reward before expiring. I'd been twice and had a great first go but my second time eating here; was thoroughly disappointing so much so that I reached out to speak with someone. I ordered a kid's cheeseburger meal online through the Local by Toast App. My meal would take about 45-55 minutes until being ready. Gladly, I work downtown so no need for parking during the busy lunch hour. Walking inside there was a table of young private school students, young families, and others on their lunch breaks. I was greeted sweetly and asked what I needed. The cooks could see me and they greeted me too. The cashier/hostess was super nice and I enjoyed the small talk that we shared (I learned that her mom and I have the same first and last name -- how cool is that?!?!) I had to end up reheating my food only because I ran late. The sweet tea tasted like my Granny made it (she made the best). My cheeseburger was good although it was missing condiments and the waffle hashbrowns were tasty too and had just the right crunch but they are way too greasy. I'd still give my food and experience overall a solid 6 out of 10 and I look forward to another visit.

As you enter, you are greeted with a smile. The staff have a cast knowledge of celiac, gluten intolerance, and gluten free procedures. The atmosphere is amazing! It's very hip and diner-esque. A 1950s soda counter fountain vibe is what you'll feel. It's a good throwback. The burgers and sandwiches are the best in town. This is my new favorite place. Joyland is open late. It's an epic experience!!

We came on a nice Wednesday afternoon and there was no wait! I'm gluten free and was able to get a gluten free bun and their crinkle fries are gluten free too! My bf got a burger and the curly fries. Everything was cooked fresh and was soo good! We sat outside bc it was such a nice day out! All of the staff was super friendly! Would highly recommend!!

I am an In and Out girl all the way! Every time I go out west I'm so sad when I come home to nothing like their meals. Well I can honestly say joyland stole my heart last week! Truthfully! When you walk in it immediately feels like a retro diner, with a modern flair. It's nice to be in a restaurant with so much color when the world is becoming so monochromatic. I immediately just felt nostalgic and happy! It lives up to its name My husband and I got the works. He got the Crustburger meal and I got the Joyland Jr. We started our meal with the dipstick. The Crustburger was 5/5. It's crispy and not too heavy. The sauce was tangy and exceptional. The Joyland jr was a 4/5 it was cooked very well and the bun was not soggy. I just wanted more sauce (which I asked for and they gave me a free side of it). The FRIES honestly left me speachless so crunch and so flavorful 5/5. The dipstick was perfectly cooked fried chicken. Not soggy in anyway, and a perfect crunch to it. It reminded me flavor wise of like a sweet and sour chicken but spicy. Although this was fast food I didn't feel heavy or gross after. Our meal took maybe 5-10 minutes. The person who checked us out was extremely kind and helpful, giving the best suggestions! I'm hooked, and currently wanting to go back while writing this.

Crustburger with bacon, curly fries, joy sauce & a sweet tea
    Sydney A.

ONLY reason I'm giving it a 4/5 is the price ($22 for what I got, see pic) and because it was basically just fast food without the drive thru. But it was worth it in my book and I'm glad I tried it. I'm still dreaming about the crustburger. Inside is like a retro fast food joint, with bar seats as well as booths. Service was average, nothing amazing/nothing bad. I'll definitely come back so my husband can try it

For food, we ordered the steak and eggs and the Applewood bacon omelette. My girlfriend's steak and eggs were phenomenal. Truly no notes. Everything was cooked well, the pacing was great, and we never felt rushed. I ordered the Applewood bacon omelette, and this was really my only disappointment. There was almost too much bacon, which sounds ridiculous to complain about, but hear me out. The bacon was diced extremely fine, almost to the consistency of bacon bits, while the onions were left sliced. I think it would have worked much better if either the bacon had been cut a little larger or the onions had been diced down to match. The textures just felt mismatched. I could absolutely see the vision, and the flavor was there, but the execution was a little off. I ended up regretting my choice a little and wishing I had ordered the mushroom omelette instead. That is definitely what I'll be trying next time. I also wish there had been an option to substitute the home fries. This is definitely more of a personal preference, but home fries feel so overdone as a brunch side, and I would have loved another option. Those were really my only critiques in an otherwise fantastic experience. The atmosphere was beautiful, the bartenders were phenomenal, the pacing was great, and the food overall was delicious. I saw a woman who had just finished a conversation on her cell phone walking into one part of the L-shaped facility, so I followed her. "The host" asked whether I wanted to be seated inside or outside. I told him I had no preference. Landon, who became my server, then escorted me to the attached building, carrying menus and two glasses of water. Shortly after I was seated, Landon approached and asked if I would like a drink. I ordered a Margarita. Since I already knew what I wanted for my entrée, I also ordered the French Dip with French Fries. The French Dip arrived warm, but the fries were cold. When Landon inquired about my meal, I informed him of the situation. He immediately took the fries away. After I finished the French Dip, I received the fries. I do not know whether they were the original fries that had been reheated or a fresh order. Regardless, these fries were hot. Shortly afterward, the young man who had originally asked where I wanted to sit came to my table and removed my dirty dishes. Landon then brought me my check. Due to the circumstances, I was given a discount on my bill. Anyway, I did not hear either of them ask whether I wanted dessert. Perhaps because of my complaint, they just wanted me out. Oh well-- their loss! I really wanted to tried their Sundae! Landon again apologized for the cold French fries. He provided very good service throughout my meal, so I do not fault him for the kitchen's mistake. Based on the restaurant's L-shaped design, with two separate buildings and the kitchen located in one building while some of the dining area is in the other, I realize that meals may become cooler by the time they reach the table. Therefore, I would highly recommend requesting a table in the building where the bar is located. Lastly, serving water in a plastic cup, in my opinion, gives the restaurant a rather cheap appearance. Considering the overall setting, I would expect water to be served in a proper glass.
