This was our first experience at Heavy Smoke for all of us. Unfortunately, we will not be returning since our visit was one issue after another with several little things adding up to big disappointment. As you enter, the menu is located on the wall to your right. Paper menus are also lying on the counter. Ordering is handled at the end of the counter with the cashier. It's best to check out the on-line menu before arriving so you can leisurely browse the menu. The cashier behind the counter was friendly, polite and patient with our group of 7. The ordering process went well and our order was delivered properly. Be aware Heavy Smoke doesn't serve alcohol. Strike one but we should have called. From that point forward everything kind of went down hill. I wanted to list the group consensus so here we go. First, and by far the worst, the dining room temperature was unbearable. As soon as we arrived, we realized the air conditioner either wasn't working properly or the thermostat was set to high. We first sat at a table where we couldn't feel any cool air. Our niece walked around the large dining room looking for a spot putting out cool air. Once she found a hint of cool we changed tables immediately. We asked the staff about the lack of air conditioning who said this was normal and they were major uncomfortable as well. Not the answer we were looking for since many of us had sweat running down our faces. 2. No one was a fan of their meal arriving on a metal tray with paper. I know it's popular now for BBQ restaurants but we weren't a fan. It was difficult not cutting the paper while cutting our food. Three people in our group ordered different versions of the Nachos and they constantly fought the tray paper. 3. When we found out we had to use Plastic Utensils it was an issue for all. When a person pays $18 for a meal the expectations is dining with real silverware. I understand the self-serve atmosphere but this was an issue for all. They have a self-serve soda fountain, and tea but it ran out, then grab your napkins, plastic silverware plus any condiments. Once you finish your meal you bus your table. Again, we're not above this but it was just one more complaint when we walked in expecting a sit down restaurant with table service. And yes, our mistake totally. We walked in expecting a full service restaurant with table service, a restaurant serving beer, real plates with real silverware, not plastic, or food served on a paper-lined metal tray. 4. Lastly, all the food was good but arrived lukewarm or cold. We were the only guests when we arrived and tried to determine why the food was either cold or lukewarm traveling the short distance from the kitchen to our table. We have to give a shout out concerning the Brisket being tender enough to cut with a plastic fork and knive. It was not only tender but delicious. The various Nachos ordered were a hit, (with the exception of the paper issue), the Brisket was exceptional and extremely tender, the Pulled Pork was tender and flavorful, a nice selection of sides offered, large meat portions and some enjoyed the various sauces and some didn't. The tarter tots were cooked perfectly and a great choice. The baked beans were good and not overly sweet. The food was very good, but again served lukewarm. We kept asking how could the food arrive lukewarm just walking from the kitchen to our table. Maybe to much prepared ahead stored under the heat lamp? Regardless, the group couldn't handle the many negative issues, especially the heat, so they were unanimous in not returning even with the quality of the food. read more

A wonderful find that was just across from our hotel. We ordered several items - brisket, ribs, pulled pork and chicken. Everything was perfectly cooked and oh so tender. I was always told there are 4 topics you should never get into an argument about; politics, religion, sports and BBQ. That being said please keep in mind this is my humble opinion. Among all the BBQ places in and around the area, this place us definitely in the top 5. Let's get the easy stuff out of the way. Very clean and large dining room. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The 3 times we went there were all during lunch time. We ordered most items on the menu. To our surprise almost everuthing was juicy. Even the chicken and turkey. The ribs were fantastic, tender and flavorful. I also enjoyed the sausage. And now my complaints. The beef items, brisket and burnt ends were very inconsistent. The brisket was dry 2 out of the 3 times plus I think they slice it way too thick. The burnt ends were AMAZING the first time we ordered them. The last two times ordered they were mainly fat which is a sign they were not smoked long enough. Again I believe if they just cut the beef a bit smaller this would fix this issue. They offer several different sauces. The two best are the sweet sauce and the white sauce. The sides are also your common BBQ joint sides, nothing bad but nothing special. Like all BBQ joints the food is pricey. Overall I would definitely recommend trying this place. read more

Early dinner on a Saturday. I had the 3 meat plate, which comes with 2 sides, for $20. My wife had the brisket sandwich. I chose brisket, which was good but just barely on the dry side, pulled pork - very smokey but tender and moist, and jalapeño Cheddar sausage - good, not great. The loaded potato salad was good, but I expected it to be more "loaded" than it was. The slaw (creamy) was fine, but I'd probably try something different next time. The space was big and clean, staff was helpful, and service was fast. We'll probably be back, but there are lots of other BBQ places around that meet or exceed them. read more

Smoked beans were great, I love beans as a side and really enjoyed the smoked flavor here. The Texas toast on the sandwich was perfect if toast can be perfect...no, it definitely was. So I took home a meat combo. So this is based off a carry out order. Had ribs, burnt ends and sliced brisket. Ribs weren't bad , very tender. Burnt ends were good! Nice flavor. The sliced brisket was left to be desired. They cut it really thick, and it was kind of dry. Got Mac and cheese and potato salad. Mac and cheese was fantastic! Creamy and cheesy and yummy! But the potato salad? Not for me. Texture was weird, almost like it had bread crumbs in it. Tasty funny too. Order came with garlic bread, that was so undercooked I nearly chocked on it- I fed it to my dogs. So to sum it up- Heavy Smoke is good, not great. The tater tots were fantastic! My boyfriend got the brisket, burnt ends, and ribs. Ribs were fine. Brisket was dry and didn't have much flavor. We ordered the brisket egg rolls as an appetizer and I couldn't even swallow my bite. It was awful. They tasted like they were in the freezer for months and flash fried. The after taste was terrible. Burnt ends were dry and lacked flavor as well. Honestly such a bummer because this place had amazing reviews. They use their in-house dry rub which flavors the ribs perfectly. They have Pappy's beat on ribs. One of the ways we measure good BBQ is whether or not we add sauce to the meat. While Heavy Smoke has delicious sauces, we didn't even use them. The baked beans had an amazing sweet flavor with a delicious spice that I couldn't quite figure out, but whatever it was, it was unique and delicious. The beans were soft, and the sauce was thick. That mac and cheese tho.... Holy smokes. So creamy and delicious and paired perfectly with the burnt ends. Service: the staff members are so friendly! We interacted as if we'd known each other for years despite this being the first time meeting them. They create a very warm and welcoming environment. Restaurant: they have lots of seating. It's not fancy, but sort of an industrial-modern type of design. Once Covid goes away, I have no doubt that they will pack their huge dining room. If you love BBQ, you MUST try this place. So visit one was a hit, so we thought pre-Friday night lights we would stop again for a pre-game meal. Underwhelming is being kind. I've never had burnt ends with quite as much fat, and nearly zero bark. Beans were really average to below average but shocker was the Texas toast. I mean it's toast, who can mess that up. Yet it was by far the worst tasting bread I have ever eaten. No amount of butter or toasting could save it. To add insult to injury, the men's bathroom was infested with sewer flies. I don't mean a couple, literally dozens. Really made me wonder what has happened to the place. Thankfully, or maybe not so thankfully I saw that after my meal, not before.
