I stopped in to Heavy Smoke BBQ this evening with my adult son... we each ordered a 3 meat combo plate so we could try all the meats but the pulled chicken. Both of us prefer our smoked chicken on the bone. We each got the smoked beans. He the tots and I the coleslaw. We also tried 3 of their sauces smoky apple, spicy blueberry and spicy pineapple. We both thought the smoky apple was the best of the three. Turkey was flavorful and moist. Ribs were tender, well seasoned and had good smoke on them. Burnt ends were quite good and quite tender. The jalapeño cheddar sausage was pretty good. No snap left in the casing though. The items we didn't care for were the brisket. It was tough and dry and carried little beef flavor or seasoning. The pulled pork was a greasy mushy mess. It just wasn't at all good. The smoked beans could use some trinity and pieces of rib or brisket in them but otherwise weren't bad. The tots were well seasoned and freshly cooked. The coleslaw was a greasy mess with too much dressing. That was really all you could taste. Finally got a chance to visit Heavy Smoke BBQ as soon as it opened on a Sunday and was met with a line of patrons also waiting for some BBQ. Nestled is a small shopping center in St. Peter's, Heavy Smoke is a true competitor in the BBQ game. As stated earlier, we arrived just after opening and multiple size groups were lined up to try the traditional fanfare of BBQ items from brisket, pulled pork/chicken and sausage. Side dishes also very similar to what you see at other BBQ joints so we were ready to sample as many as possible. Brisket Nachos was the first item up. Fresh tortilla chips accompanied a heaping of delicious brisket, hot queso and a pico de gallo. Nachos could've used more brisket so we chopped up some from our 3 meat combo and boo yah, we cleaned the tray. I highly recommend this as a starter as you won't be disappointed. 3 meat combo was a healthy portion of brisket, pulled pork and St. Louis style ribs. I'm not a fan of baby back ribs and was so excited to try. Ribs were perfectly cooked and full of meat. Pulled pork was also delicious and no fat from what we were served. And finally the brisket, Heavy Smoke's brisket was deliciously seasoned and trimmed old school, nice and thick . Side dishes were very good as expected, but we visited for the meat. Sauces, Heavy Smoke continued to impress with their pineapple and blueberry bbq sauces and was as the traditional sweet sauce. A+ for the creativity! Heavy Smoke has plenty of seating for large, medium or small groups. You know you're in a great spot when people of all ages are excited to order and talk about what they're about to enjoy. The BBQ brisket is my husbands favorite. It's leaner or better trimmed than others in the area. Great service and it's close.

So I've been to Heavy Smoke 3 times now. This guy deserves all of those trophies and ribbons! I have tried the Pork Cakes (like a crab cake but made with pulled pork), The burnt ends, the seasoned tater tots, and the King Scott Sandwich (Brisket, pulled pork, pretzel bun, queso, horseradish sauce, and apple bbq sauce). The pork cakes are delicious. You get the smoky tender pork with a little crispness on the pan fried edges of the cake. The fruity spicy sauce really sets it off. The burnt ends were tender and well smoked. The seasoned tater tots are just their dry rub tossed with the tots but very crisp and good. I was not a big fan of the King Scott Sandwich. I'm not sure if it was an off day or what but the proteins weren't as fresh that day. I thought the brisket and the pulled pork were both tough. The queso was not necessary. I'll be back though. I really like it here and I'm looking forward to working my way through the rest of the menu. read more

This is a new restaurant, but the 'Cue is not new. They have obviously worked on their craft for years and it shows. They have a wonderful finished product. When you walk in the restaurant you see a wall of competition BBQ trophies to the left, and it's a BIG wall. It gives you an instant high expectation that this is gonna be good. The food did not disappoint. I ordered burnt ends, Mac n cheese, and baked beans. Delicious X 3! Perfectly seasoned and smoked brisket burnt ends. The beans were exception and the Mac was cheesy and creamy. The portions are large so come hungry. I'll definitely be back. I've heard from several people what great BBQ this place has and read the reviews. I finally got to try it out. The brisket was very good. Tender and thick sliced. I appreciate that they trim off all of the fat to leave you with just pure brisket goodness. But that's about the extent of it. The beans and cole slaw were average. The service is pretty much self serve after you place your order. They do bring your food out to you but your on your own for everything else. The girl taking orders was very nice and helpful. Overall my experience was good but not the best ever. It certainly didn't warrant $26 for a brisket plate with 2 sides and a drink. read more

Heavy Smoke snuck in quietly in the fall of 2020 while its better known competitor, Pappy's, was reaping the hoopla of opening its nearby BBQ spot in St. Peter's. Heavy Smoke quickly became known as a worthy competitor to Pappy's. Midweek just before noon there wasn't a lengthy line to get in Heavy Smoke--something it's competition is known for. However, diners soon started filing into the large dining room. Order at the counter and you can easily social distance in this cavernous building. Our orders came out quickly and we could find no fault with nuthin'. I could say we wanted more but the portions of brisket and pulled pork were sizable. Both meats were smoky and tender. Sandwiches included a side each. The potato salad was wonderful with bacon bits and the creamy coleslaw was veggie tasty. We'll be back. read more

There should be a "hell yes" option to recommendating a place, because this place would get it! I've heard plenty about this restaurant, and I have been wanting to try it for more than a year or so. That is typically not a good thing for me, because the longer I think about or hear about something, the higher my expectations go. Usually that means I'll let down. I don't know if my standards are too high or if I just think about things too hard, but either way it's usually a disappointment. Not so with this place! It is well worth the drive if you're even remotely close to the area of St. Peters MO. Bring your appetite with you because you get a good helping. I would suggest going with a three meat platter, because you're going to want to try as much as possible! Unfortunately they were out of brisket when I went on Saturday at 5 PM, so I guess that means another trip! I did have the turkey, burnt ends and pulled pork. Smoked baked beans and seasoned tater tots were my sides. They complement the barbecue perfectly. She got the turkey, pulled pork and pulled chicken, So all in all, I got to try for meats. Everything was so good. This is seriously some of the best barbecue I have ever eaten at a restaurant. They have some unique barbecue sauces as well. I got smoked apple and smoked blueberry sauces. The are is very large and all tables are seat yourself and spaced out well. I love that they have an entire wall dedicated to their awards and honors of World Championship bbq. It was tough making a decision on what to order but I went with the Porkwich and it was a good decision. This is pulled pork, topped with creamy coleslaw sandwiched between two toasted pieces of Texas toast! It's a large delicious sandwich :) I paired it with baked beans and I enjoyed that they had pieces of meat in them. They also have a variety of bbq sauces to choose from and these are not your average sauces! I chose spicy pineapple -YOU WANT TO TRY THIS ONE, they also had an apple and blueberry option. Overall food was pretty decent, a 3.5 stars, however service on my first experience lowers my review significantly. On my to-go order of $125 (bought just for two people to try all different offerings) they forgot to include roughly 1/3 of the order (no chicken, brisket, pork). When I called to ask if there was a mistake they acknowledged there was and told me to come back and they'd make it right, including giving me the food that was missing and providing a gift card for my troubles and time wasted for making the hour long round trip. When I got to the restaurant they had my missing food but were unwilling to provide a gift card as promised on the phone. Food is enjoyable, but the staff are pretty awkward. The person at the counter made me feel uncomfortable the way she said "enjoy the food" as she tied up my to-go order bag. I ordered the pork-which but it was missing the sauce and the slaw and the garlic bread. My wife's order was also missing the garlic bread. This space seems way too big for how many people are there at once, it's also weirdly lit with cool tone florescent lights and no music playing... this feels like a place where barbecue dreams come to die, but maybe you want to feel like your in a dark dystopian daydream when you eat your pulled pork?. Better yet, this looks like the old mattress direct closed down and the cousin of the landlord pulled a favor and got their barbecue joint they have always wanted. Also who closes at 7pm on a weekday??? Also $18 for a pulled pork sandwich, a chunk of bread, and a side??? Are you serious?
