    Loaded baked potato
    Quentin T.

This is real Texas bbq no frills no glam just a simple building with good food. Order at the counter & take it to your seat. Prices are very fair for the portions. I got the "heavy d" add cheese. This was a big plate of chopped beef & sausage topped with beans sauce cheese onions & pickles. Just a mess of an offering but so good. My sisters had the loaded baked potato which was huge as well.

was just passing through on our way to Eagle Pass, Tx and was looking for somewhere to have late lunch and saw a big sign that says BBQ. We decided to stop and check it out. And thank goodness it did not disappoint. We've been wanting some real Texas bbq and we found the right spot. The place is clean and the staff were friendly. We ordered two and three meat combos and we were super excited to seat down and try. Our meals were spot on. The bbq ribs and meats were just smoked and grilled so good. The sides of potato salad and mac and cheese and bbq beans were delicious! We are so glad to have come across this place. I truly satisfied our hunger and we are highly content.

Great BBQ and service! Order at the counter and pick up right after. They run out fast so come early. They only had brisket and sausage left when we arrived around 3pm on a Saturday. Both were tender and juicy. I had side of green beans and creamed corn. We also had the Frito pie. It looks small but they pile on chopped brisket and beans. Price is good for quality and quantity of food. Will need to come back early to try the rest of the menu! No room for dessert.

Been trying to finish this damn review since 2017 when they made Texas Monthly's Top 50 BBQ joints. Everytime i go to Eagle Pass, I drive through here. And I stop every single time. Had pretty much everything on their menu but my faves are the frito pie, the Heavy D, their beans and their smoked chicken. The frito pie is made with burnt ends and their beans and cheese and served in the frito bag. Delicious. Add jalapenos for good measure. The Heavy D is similar but they add chunks of beef and sausage topped with beans and sauce add the extra fritos and jalapenos to ensure you able to share (or not) Their beans are exceptional: peppery and with small pieces of brisket. Their chicken is smoked to perfection with the crisp skin lightly dusted in salt and pepper. Biting into that chicken just takes you to another place. A place where you're happy and puppies remain puppies forever. Make a day out of it and go hit them up. Totally worth the money and drive.

Wowza, worth the drive. This is the Wednesday lunch special at Heavy's in Hondo. 2meat plate includes 2 sides and tea. I chose the pork ribs and brisket. Very good, loved the potato salad. $14.95. I bet there's half a pound of brisket under those ribs. -- eating lunch at Heavys Bbq.

Excellent BBQ and sides. I love the flavor provided by the tasty dry rub and the mesquite smoke. I was going to be in Hondo for a few hours so I did some research to find a good local place for lunch. Heavy's jumped out at me as a must try kind of place. I wanted to try as much as possible so i opted for the 3 meat plate. I had it with no sauce as I wanted to just enjoy the meat. Brisket, Sausage and Pork Ribs were my protien options. I liked all three very much and find it very hard to choose a favorite. Though if pushed my taste buds give the ribs a tiny edge. For sides I got the beans and potatoe salad and both are very solid accompaniments to the meat. Worth a trip to Hondo for!!

This was the rib membrane skin left from the back of the ribs. Not at all good when you are eating ribs.

It had good ratings, even though the building looks like an old trailer home. A friend said "oh yes its sooooo good, we love it!" So in we went! Our group got a lil of everything to try. There was six of us total and we run around the table and gave our rating out of five stars and everybody gave it above a 4.5. Some of the food was fantastic!! -- recommend the chicken fried steak 100%, taco was good as well, rice and beans good!!! Enchiladas with CHILI GRAVY was good, but you have to request that - would not order it the way they serve it again though because they use like cream of chicken soup and it was awful. BBQ was good, sauce was good! My friend raves about the potato salad! Wouldn't get biscuits again, very dense and not really my fav, but saw other reviews loved it. Chorizo and egg was decent - cant really mess that up just wish for a softer tortilla Overall, we will definitely be stopping in here again. Next time we go to the river, but I would just stick to the barbecue and chicken fried steak because those were absolutely amazing.

A special shout-out to Jake and Brock, who were incredibly kind, welcoming, and attentive throughout our visit. They went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable, well taken care of, and having a great time. Their genuine friendliness and professionalism really made a difference and turned an already great meal into an unforgettable experience. The barbecue was delicious, the portions were generous, and the overall quality was exactly what you hope for when visiting a great Texas BBQ spot. But what really stood out to us was the hospitality. People like Jack and Brock are a huge part of what makes a restaurant special. We came for the barbecue, but we left remembering the great service and the people who made us feel so welcome. Thank you, Jack and Brock, for taking such great care of us! Highly recommended -- we will definitely be coming back!

Very rustic country location and once inside you know you are in a Texas country BBQ. Staff was friendly and helpful choosing our food. They suggested going with the family portions to share which was perfect. For 3 people we ordered 1/2 lb each of lean brisket (moist also available), turkey, and garlic sausage. For sides we went with coleslaw and charro beans. Way too much food for us, but perfect for a large leftover plate. Consensus of all three of us was: -Brisket had a perfect blackened crust, with a good red smoke ring. Very little fat and still very moist meat. 7 of 5 stars! -Turkey was well seasoned, very flavorful, and smoked to perfection. 6 of 5 stars! -Garlic sausage was the home run here. When we ordered they only had the garlic one left. I was hesitant to order expecting a strong garlic flavor. It was the perfect garlic hint of flavor with the amazing in-house made sausage. Outer skin had a snap when you bit into it and the flavor of the sausage is a melody of bbq flavor that overwhelms the taste buds. 10 of 5 stars! -Coleslaw was vinegary with some fresh sliced red pepper and fresh jalapeños which was a good touch. 5 of 5 stars. -Charro beans were flavored to perfection. 5 of 5 stars. -And we can't forget the bbq sauce. This was the perfect pairing for the meat. Obviously house made with the perfect balance between spicey and sweetness. Wife and I both said it was the best we ever had. Blows away the sauce from our favorite bbq location here in San Antonio. Another 10 of 5 stars! Fresh squeezed lemonade for all of us and they brought us free refills. Probably the best bbq we have had....ever!

As a local, this is one of my go-to places for taking out-of-town guests. The brisket is my favorite, with the pulled pork coming in a close second. Honestly, everything is good, so get a little bit of everything, add a sweet tea, and you will not be disappointed. The atmosphere makes the experience even better. Pinkerton's is inside a beautifully restored historic house, and the entire place has that relaxed, old-Texas charm. Great barbecue, great setting, and absolutely worth the visit.

We ordered take out and enjoyed awesome BBQ from Pinkerton at our hotel room. Why Pinkerton? We check reviews and asked locals, it was a great choice. We ordered ribs (dry rub + wet), sliced and chopped brisket, plus the fixing - the meat was truly outstanding - moist, tender, and the meat, not the rub or sauce was emphasized. The only downside to takeout? The beef ribs, which I called "Flintstone ribs" are only available on site...so it I will have to dine in the restaurant the next time I'm in San Antonio. And based on the line which was forming before it opened, it's a popular place for a reason. Texas BBQ + Shiner Boke, it's a combination which cannot be beat, check it out. I definitely will when I visit San Antonio again so I can try the beef ribs BBQ and re-assess my review.
