The location on Broadway is the original Mariscos Hector's. The owner, Abraham, has since opened the one in Eastlake and another one on H & Broadway (by the VIP Chinese restaurant). My favorite is the one in Eastlake. They are always busy though. But the servers are awesome and really take care of you. It's nice when you get the hook up from owners too. Anyway, they give you chips and salsa on the table. The salsa is always yummy. Not too spicy and not too mild. I usually order the whole fried fish. It is at "market value" , so the price changes. All entrees start with a bowl of consome (fish soup). It comes with fresh tortillas, beans, rice, and a little mound of salad. The fried fish is scored and seasoned then the whole fish, head and all, is deep fried. It is my favorite. If you like seafood, this is a great way to try some wonderful dishes. For you seafood haters, they have a limited selection of traditional Mexican food. I would rate the Eastlake location 5 Stars and the other two 4 Stars. I used to like this place but the last two times I've gone I've gotten bad service and bad food. My dad knows the owner of this place and he is also friends with the server Laura I had yesterday when I went for late lunch. I was with my family when I went to eat and i knew what I was going to get. I've always gotten the shrimp ceviche and when I've had other waiters I've never had a problem with my food. When I got the tostada de ceviche by the looks of it I already knew it was going to be disgusting. The shrimp was dry and had a weird color to it. Ceviche is always juicy especially when it's marinated with lemon juice but this tostada had no lemon juice. It was completely dry and disgusting. I called the waitress over and I told her that I didn't like it and would like something else. She already looked like she didn't care and went to tell the manager that I didn't like the food. The first time I had bad service was with this exact lady. Laura knows my father and the owner so I'm thinking we're in good hands but I was wrong. The first time I had bad ceviche and service was with her. I knew off the bat that when she saw me come in again and ordered the same as usual but I returned it she was going to have attitude. Now this was the previous time I've gone but yesterday 9/12/15 the service was worse especially from the manager. They didn't want to change my tostada unless I had gotten something like a fish taco so I did and the manager nodded his head to exchange it after she was going back and forth talking to him. Instead of the manager coming to our table and apologizing for the disgusting ceviche that tasted like it was old shrimp he never even gave me eye contact. He brushed the situation off like it was nothing. Of course he would because it wasn't him who had to take a bite of the disgusting old ceviche!! My boyfriend ordered a fish taco aside from a supreme tostada he had that was also gross. When he took a bite he found in his mouth a cable wire! Now how in the heck does a cable wire get into the fried fish taco he had?? That's insane! So he went to show them what was in his food and the server Laura and the manager didn't care and we're not polite or apologetic. When we started talking about the wire cable that was in his food and as the tables next to us started to over hear our conversation, the "manager" and I say with quotes because as a manager he's horrible at it, came to our table and explained to us why there was a wire cable. According to him the night before they had someone fixing the lights on the roof. What else could we of eaten in our food?! I didn't want to hear anything else he had to say because he said it like it was ok for us to find that wire cable so I made hand gestures for him to stop and just get our check so we could pay and leave. We got the check and there wasn't any discount. We got charged for it all. I would give this place no stars if I could. Now when i tell my father to ask to speak to the owner I'm sure he will not be pleased to hear that his employees and that so called manager treated us bad. We were paying customers here for this place for quite some time but now I'll be going to other spots for the tostadas de ceviche. For Laura and the manager! You guys should eat the food that is returned so maybe you can get an idea why this location is losing customers. It has a lot to do with the ppl that work at restaurants because of how YOU treat customers but by the looks of it you guys just live paycheck by paycheck and that is why you make customers like myself have bad experiences. Try a different career if you don't like working for people. If you don't like your job don't make paying customers like myself pay for food that's expired and old. The food is pretty decent. You get a pretty good amount for the price. I wouldn't say fresh sea food more like freshly thawed from the freezer maybe. Their chimichanga was overly saucy so the burrito was basically holding shrimp in chipotle sauce together. The breakfast platters are pretty big but the biggest downfall is the service!! Never got a drink refill, had to wait 15 min for the bill, didn't ask how our food was or if we needed anything...kind of basic things to ask customers. The inside is a little run down and you have to ask yourself if you're brave enough to eat sea food of all things there. Me and my family went there last night for a birthday dinner and the place is definitely a lot better than it seems from the outside as it is tucked into a small shopping complex. It is definitely a little pricey but well worth it. Almost everything is in Spanish so that was something to adjust to although in keeping with being authentic it made perfect sense. Those were the best beans that I have had from anywhere with a perfect creaminess and consistency they complimented my lobster tacos beautifully! You would never know it by the looks of it but this place cranks out some of the best Mexican food in San Diego...No lie...They specialize in Seafood but everything I have ever ordered from here has been nothing short of delicious...They have the best horchata I have ever tasted and the same goes for the michelada...Their salsa is always fresh and I love the atmosphere here too...There is always music playing at a fairly loud volume so if you're looking for something quiet this is NOT the place to be...I would totally give them 5 stars except for the place smelled overly strongly of Fabuloso yesterday morning and our food came out stone cold although it wasn't really our waiters fault...He got stuck on the phone with a catering order and it was a waitress that brought our food after noticing it had been sitting so long...but honestly in all they years I've been coming here it's the first time something like that has occurred...I can honestly say aside from this isolated incident their customer service is usually impeccable...and the waitresses actually wear clothes here unlike the other place down the street... read more

The only reason I'm even giving this place 2 stars is because they're food is good. But trust me, if you are anything but Hispanic, the staff there couldn't care less about you. My husband is black and I am white so we are used to people starting at us and being less than inviting. But our last experience at Hector's will definitely be our last. After essentially seating ourselves, it took a waiter 10 minutes just to bring us chips and another 10 to take our order (he didn't ask about drinks when he brought our chips, just dropped them on the table and walked away). Everyone else in the restaurant had been visited before us, even those who had been seated 10-15 minutes after we sat down. It took all of my strength not to walk out. When we finally got our food, it was very good but I was not able to enjoy it because of the hostility we felt from the staff. We will never go back there again. read more

I always tip no matter how bad the service is, but I had a hard time tipping at this place, it took about 20 minutes to get in our order, and i had to chase somebody down to get a refill. I have been going to this place since they were in the single location in thr strip mall across from the costco and before they expanded next door and to two more locations. It was great food when the owner was cooking and since then unfortunately it has taken a nose dive. But still better than most in the area. Try the ceviche tostadas and the shrimp tacos. Had a hankering for oysters today so sauntered over to the Chula location. They were kind enough to mix orders- 1/2 "popeye" and half "roquefeller". The oysters "popeye" were excellent with a surprise shot of chipoltle under the cheese, spinach and oyster. Very good. The oyster "roque" was dry- too much hard bacon, very little chipotle, and definitely not enough oyster juice. The wine margarita was good but I was disappointed by the lack of a liquor license- no tequila! I ordered a lobster enchilada to take home. They let me order it with culichi sauce instead of the regular red or green sauce. Nice. And lobster for supper later! Cheers! read more

Went to the Eastlake branch and the service and Quality of food was 100 time better then the Broadway branch. Marlin taco was fantastic and my wife's ceviche tostada was piled high and had a great consistency. Nice friendly staff, clean comfortable dining area. Will go back again. read more

My fiancee and I have been loyal customers of Hector's in CV, however last night we experience the worse customer service ever!! The waitress "Karen" took our plates away without even asking if we were done eating. We had a few bites of food left. It would have been nice to be asked if we were done before proceeding to take the plates away!!! When I grabbed the plate before she tried to take it and told her we weren't done she rolled her eyes as she walked away.... We felt rushed out of the place. Horrible horrible customer service! I work in a business on the same street, we are regular customers to Hector's. On EVERY single occasion they have been real jerks. They completely lack anything that would be considered professionalism! Most of the time we just let it go.... but today was the last straw. The two hosts that work during the lunch shift are rude and its obvious that they were never trained to deal with customers in a courteous, professional manner. I walk in to pick up a large order for my self and my coworkers and I was greeted by silence, no eye contact and the feeling that I was bugging them. The place was not busy there were a few patrons eating lunch but there was absolutely no reason why I was ignored and made to stand there for more than 10 minutes! I saw that our lunch order was sitting on the counter so all they needed to do was to ring me up and I would be out of their hair but I guess they are too important come give a courteous greeting and assist a regular customer. To add insult to injury...its pretty obvious that our order is for a number of people BUT we are NEVER EVER given extra salsa or chips. We get one small bag of chips and one little plastic container of salsa. When the order is upwards of 14 or 15 tacos simple math dictates that one small container of salsa is not enough. With the amount of business we give them its kind of sad that we are treated this way. My coworkers and I are actually going to drive out of our way to buy from another establishment. I ordered their garlic fish...it was the best fish I have had. The salad was a little wilted/brown. The rice and beans were okay. Their margaritas especially the tamarindo one was excellent! The service was non existent. We had a large table of family and because the table extended we needed 2 waitresses. One waitress on one side of the restaurant and one on the other. My hubby and I arrived after everyone was seated. They never gave us a menu, asked us what we wanted to drink etc etc. I asked the waitress and she said she was sorry she couldnt help because she wasnt our waitress, she was only helping half of our table. This was so stupid to me! She never even sent us our waitress so about 5 min later we had to go to the bar/cashier area to order our drinks. To start, this is my first review. I'm the kind of guy who will eat something given to me even if the order is spaghetti when I order a cheeseburger, not the end of the world. That said, I brought my wife and one of my boys here for dinner looking for a good fried fish and chips. The waiter had never heard of "chips". Ok... He explains they have a breaded fish, great sounds good! The 1 star was awarded to the fish soup, freakn bomb! My wife orders a tamarind martini, she got it when she was almost done with her meal only because I reminded out waiter. I ordered 2 sweetened iced teas. You guessed it! Got them both unsweetened. The calamari appetizer was average, put it this way, we didn't finish it. So this guy brings out these plates with a paper thin fish fillet on each with French fries scattered about as to make the plate appear fuller?! WTF? The establishment has never even heard of cocktail sauce, no really, they haven't. Finish my tea before the meal comes out, never got a refill. I should have known when I saw tapatio instead of cholula on the tables how this would go. $28 for two plates of s#%t frozen fish and fries alone, $64 total. Left no tip, got swindled already paying for that crap. I take my fish seriously I guess, goes hand in hand with how much time I spend on the water fishing. Awful experience ! I ordered the whole fried "huachinango" (red snapper ). At $28.00 per serving I expected a nice plump fish. When it arrived at our table, I noticed a horrible flavor and the meat was yellowish, Just then, my friend walked in and asked me how was my "corvina". I told him I had ordered red-snapper. He is a commercial fisherman and laughed at me telling me that I was eating a lesser fish, in fact a corvina. The waitress and the cook later acknowledged that the fish they had brought was not a red snapper. I decided to return it, because they switched fish on me and the taste was horrible. When the check came, I noticed that they had charged my friend for the imposter fish. My friend and I brought this tbogus charge to the attention of the staff, who refused to take the fish off the check because I had taken a couple of bites. My friend called the owner who told him that the Hector's on Broadway is under different management thatn the one at Eastlake ( no help there). This place is a sham, expensive, terrible customer relations, they covertly swap for lesser products but charge the same exhorbitant price and the waitress was dishonest. I will never go back and, hereby, warn anyone who is thinking of eating at Hector's, buyer beware-- Dont eat at Hector's on Broadway in Chula Vista. read more

Been going here for over a year and it never dissapoints. Things to try out are their Shrimp in Culichi sauce Burrito as well as the one that started a love affair with this place for me the Chipotle Sauce Shrimp Burrito. It's effin delicous. Their Fish plates are great to. My 5 year old loves their yummy fish soup that they give you before the main course or you can order a large bowl as your main course. Delicous! Then there is still MORE! Their Micheladas are served in a large drinking glass with all of the ingredients a michelada needs. I prefer Pacifico in my Micheladas. They have a good happy hour deal that you will need to go for your self and find out what it's all about. The prices are fair compared to the other Mariscos places around the area. (Karinas for example). The place is decent, plenty of space in booths as well as center tables. Juke box blasting corridas and banda. Fun eating. read more
