Being a picky eater, I like to be able to select and customize the food how I like. Heemo is the perfect spot for that! Ok before I get them in trouble, when I say customize, I meant remove certain ingredients from their rolls. I've never asked to switch ingredients so I'm not sure if they actually do that. Anywho, their crunch roll is some of the best I've had. My favorite thing about it is that they are GENEROUS with tempura flakes. Like look at my half-eaten picture of the crunch roll. This is one of my favorite sushi spots in the SGV! Kim, her husband, and the other cooks/workers are always so kind and welcoming. They really do a great job in making you feel at home. If it's your birthday, they go all out celebrating you with a mini party, song, and dessert. You can tell they are loved by many with customers greeting the staff and they have a couple photo walls of people who come in as well. The event itself was a complete waste of money, and we felt that the trip was entirely a waste as we had driven from Vegas in the morning and we were driving back that same night. The one bright spot of our trip was this small sushi shop. Jason's service and demeanor were amazing - he kept us entertained throughout our dinner, and went out of his way to make sure that all of the alterations that we needed to the food were met. This location can be found in the same plaza as Smart and Final, a few doors down from Baskin Robbins. This is an excellent portion for a very full meal for one person but also fair to share with another. I like the assorted mix in this meal. Rainbow Roll, $13.95 prior to tax- Color presentation, inside each roll is a California roll. Not the best rainbow roll, but was good. Volcano Roll, Baked, $6.95 prior to tax- Only comes 4 pieces, was a tasty baked salmon roll. ------------------------ (Total= $50.60 after tax) My order was ready the time I had requested to pick up, which was 6:30 pm. truly a gem in duarte! frequently eat here with my family - started going with just one kid and even right after i had my second. we have always received the best service, even with crying kids in tow. the entire staff are genuinely friendly and welcoming to us and my kids. we've always managed to secure a table quickly despite our 4+ party. the fish is fresh and their cuts are generous. they have a variety of rolls, with a majority of them having the california roll base, like most other places, but you'll find a few that aren't, like the salmon tempura roll. when i was pregnant i was craving salmon skin handrolls for a week, and they certainly hit the spot. my toddler's go-to is the chicken teriyaki set on the kid's menu. it comes with miso soup, waffles fries/fried potato wedges (whatever's available) and a honest juice box (if you're a parent, you know that's the best juice you can give your child without all the sugar). their fries are always fresh and we have taken them off the tray for ourselves every time. as far as i remember, we've received an item on the house every time we've visited - whether that's salmon collar, a dessert, or blue fin sushi. i think this is a great way to introduce new items to customers and it's certainly welcomed by all diners. now if only they started serving ayce...that would be incredible! read more
