My parents and I came here during the middle of the week. My mom is German and was craving some German food, which is hard to find in southwest Florida. It immediately felt like we were transported to a quaint Bavarian restaurant after we walked inside. The server was very friendly and we got seated right away. The restaurant itself is small, and when it's not raining, there's a cute patio. It's best to go early when they open to ensure you get a table. I ordered the jagerschnitzel with spaetzle and Brussels sprouts which was amazing. My mom got the meatloaf and my dad got the sauerbrauten. The portions are huge for the price, and it was all so tasty. I'm sure we'll be coming back. read more

Hurricane Ian destroyed Heidi's Island Bistro on Fort Myers Beach but they are back in a new location. This location was the former Kenwood Lane Grille and it is hidden behind the corner of College Parkway and US 41. It is good to see both Heidi and Axel back and working at their new location. The restaurant is not big with 12 inside tables and outside patio or beer garden which adds to charm. Pictures of German castles with many beer steins and a Bavarian flag add a touch to the ambiance. As soon you walk in, you feel like you have been transported back to Germany! We treated ourselves to sauerbraten with spaetzle with red cabbage and a Jaeger schnitzel with potato pancakes with apple sauce and a salad. The sauerbraten was excellent, marinated for a long time and red wine sauce was very tasty. Schnitzel is tender with just right amount of savory and creamy mushroom sauce. Red cabbage, spaetzle and potato pancakes just the way we like. A nice stein of cold Muechner Hofbrau goes well with the meal! We did not save room for desserts. However, the Black Forest cake, plum cake, Cheesecake with peaches and apple strudel in the desert case look so amazing, we were tempting to take one home. Wow! What a great find! Stopped here with some family and what a great German restaraunt! I've eaten in several German restaurants, and this one has the best food! They were super kind with my sight and hearing impaired father, joking with him and being patient. This is a family owned restaurant that has the kind of service that you remember from decades ago and can only dream of today. I think it was one of the owners who served us and was gracious to entertain my father's attempt to remember some German. The place was clean and quaint. Food was OUTSTANDING! We all had some kind of schnitzel, and they were all cooked perfectly. The sides were authentic. All ingredients were fresh and everything homemade. Timely service but never rushed. While they were not busy, they said some nights they are very busy. They used to be at Fort Meyers Beach, but relocated here after the hurricane wiped out the original place. They are only open for dinner. I couldn't have asked for a better place to take my father for a great meal. read more

Very Happy to see a 'new' German restaurant in town. Yes yes, we know; it's rebuilt and relocated from the beach. Portion sizes were generous! Service was friendly, though a little slow, I think the staff is still trying to work out some of this kinks with the space and kitchen - this is the kind of restaurant you come to and spend 90+ min at for dinner. This isn't a fast food joint, food is cooked to order and has the small family run restaurant vibe(it is!) The menu is somewhat limited, but everything is really good! We walked in, no one acknowledged us . The hostess said she would be back but we ended up seating ourselves. Our server was nice but the food was mediocre. It is also very loud inside. I thought the staff was nice but the food was just okay, nothing memorable.Hostess asked my husband if he needed condiments for his meal and never brought them. Wow! Wish I could give this place more than 5 stars!! It was that good! From apps to dessert, Heidi's was a homerun! Six of us came on a Saturday night around 5:45pm and got the last table. The dining room is small, so tables fill up quickly. For this reason, I'd suggest a reservation. For apps, my husband and I shared a small pretzel and potato pancakes. Both were delicious! For my meal, I had beef sauerbraten and chose sauerkraut and a bread dumpling for my two sides. The beef was sliced, tender, and served with a beef gravy. The beef had a flavorful vinegar taste. The gravy was smooth. The sauerkraut was tender, just like I like it. The bread dumpling was just that - a bread dumpling, a terrific accompaniment to a sour beef meal! The apple strudel was scrumptious and had thinly sliced almonds on top, served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. On my way out, a woman in a German dress told me to come back during the week when it's less crowded. I asked her if she was Heidi, and she was. I told her how great the food was, and she was pleased to tell me that her husband makes all the food. This location has only been open about a month, but Heidi and her husband are no strangers to this area. They formerly operated a German restaurant on Fort Myers Beach that closed after last year's hurricane. I spoke with a few customers here on my way out and everyone was already familiar with Heidi's; either they'd visited this location in the past few weeks or were customers at the FMB location. Thank you Heidi for such a delicious German dinner. We were a party of 8 adults. The restaurant was very accommodating. Christina was our server and did a great job tackling all our questions about the various menu offerings. Everything came out in a timely manner and hot. Most of our table had the Jaeger Schnitzel which they all said was delicious. My brother in law had the Sauerbraten and not bit left on his plate! I had the Mixed Sausage Plate which I really enjoyed. You get a choice of 2 sides. I ordered the German potato pancakes & the German Spaetzle - yes I'm a carb lover!! They were yummy! My husband had the pancakes and red cabbage which I heard the cabbage was very tasty. We ended with desserts - A plum dessert, apple strudel & German chocolate cake- All wonderful. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Its's easy to drive to since it's right off of Tamiami in Fort Myers. I would recommend reservations in high season as it's not a large dining area. I had the Bavarian plate- it's a combo of a few of their items and it was delicious. While browsing, I noticed on the menu they offered their gravy as a side dish and thought hmmm...that's different but after tasting it on my roasted pork and Spaetzle I know why it's so popular! My companion had the cheese schnitzel and tastes off my plate too and we both enjoyed it all. We will absolutely be back! Next time I'll have the homemade Black Forest cake and a cappuccino.
