I tried the loaded tots and tenderloin. The tots were crisp, but not over cooked. There was adequate cheese and bacon on top of the tots, but not so much that they made the tots mushy. Too often restaurants pride themselves with "a tenderloin as big as your head", but this is accomplished by beating the tenderloin so thin that it's as thin as a sheet of notebook paper. So then all you ever really taste on the tenderloin is just batter and crisp crunch. If you are a lover of the crunchy 14 inch diameter tenderloin...this is not for you. The Maplewood tenderloin was breaded, thick and juicy. It is a little bigger than the bun, and you can load with toppings as you please. It was great surprise is now in my top 5 in the state! Updates: the pub is smoke free, restrooms are clean, and tables are sanitized. The mixed drinks are good. Try their special "baby beer" made with Licor 43, heavy cream and served in a mini beer shot glass. There are plenty of TV's if you are trying to catch a game and it is a laid back environment. They have karaoke on Fridays and the ages of the crowd vary from 21 to 75! A solid safe little pub to enjoy a night out.

We have booked here for two nights. We chose this hotel for…read moretwo reasons. First, location. It's close to a family gathering during our stay so we chose this for logistics. Second, family has stayed here before and gave the hotel raving reviews. I'm not sure why. Generally the family that gave this hotel raving reviews has a certain level of standards which I would assume would have meant more than our experience. The first room we were given was infested with flies. We killed 10 within minutes and after that 6 more just showed up immediately. So we went down and asked for another room. We were given one with a jacuzzi. No, we have no plans on haul v that and there are several reasons why. The first and second rooms are clean. But, it's clear the hotel is in a serious need of updating and refreshing. Now, I understand a few things about this location. First, it's a small town and what I assume to be a privately ran hotel. On our first night there was maybe 10 people here in a hotel that probably has 100 rooms? So my point here is income probably does not generate the funds necessary to save for dramatic improvements of any scale or variety. Being in a small town there is literally only a few options to stay unless you drive to a bigger city like Richmond closer to an interstate, etc. doing a google search I found three choices in town and this appeared to be the best. Rooms are not that awesome. First room had the aforementioned fly infestation, toilet seat was well used and worn down to what appeared to be black wood underneath. (I hope) Second and first room both had outdated and well worn and in some places town carpet. Rubber molding around the walls near floors were torn away in spots and drywall plaster was cracked or busted in spots in and around corners in bath and other places. Parking lot is dimly lit unless you park right by the building where huge wall lamps give a 1970's incandescent yellow hue of light that somehow bounces off the building good enough to illuminate the front of your car. There are light posts that are from what I can tell the size of a battery powered throw away infomercial lantern. In fact. They are positioned about 30 feet from each other on the exterior of the lot and are most certainly solar powered as they were casting no light at 6 am on anything at all. So, if lot safety is a concern of yours and what I have said already is not enough to turn you off then book away. I believe the rate per night was around $140 and that might have been with taxes and fees.. again. If you are one of three hotels in town you get the luxury of slapping a charge on a rate and seeing if anyone bites. They offer continental breakfast. But, in looking at the quality of the offerings you might be wise to choose coffee or a preserved yogurt cup. I was even skeptical of the coffee as the coffee urns on the bun coffee maker looked like the last time they seen soap and water was before dish washers were invented. I'd skip the pastries and dried cereal which looked stale.. I'd even skip the waffle maker and aerosol can of butter and syrup mix as well. Maybe go try and find the McDonald's or a Cracker Barrel even farther away.. Finally, for the smokers or the smoke smoker haters that are reading this post. This hotel most certainly used to be a smoking hotel. How the peeled off signs on the entry doors and on occasional rooms that have not yet been peeled off state its non smoking. But, as my wife has recently stopped smoking and is keen to smells that never bothered her before.. she can still smell the lingering odors in the room which shout out it has seen decades of cigarette smoke. Just bring some Febreeze and that should tame it down. First nights rest? Well, the rooms are quiet overall, I could not hear talking or television noises from guests next to us. I did hear what sounded like a t-Rex walking around in the room uostairs this morning. I assume hunting for prey for breakfast. Bed slept ok for one that has clearly seen a few decades of use. Sheets are alright. But, clearly are the low end. Comforter is well used and low end. But, it appears all was clean. However I elected not to freak myself out and dig deep on this one for usual things that would creep someone out. I should point out that front desk clerk at check in was nice. We booked through a third party website and she had trouble matching up our credit card with reservation. She was a new clerk though. We did not get the usual questions like make and model and plate number and that kind of thing. But, we did not get any arguments as to switching rooms when we brought up the fly infestation either. Almost like they knew.. But, now that you read this you can make your own choice. It certainly may will give us cause to ask family.. Why did you think it was so nice? Maybe it was at a point in the past. But, now it's just "ok" IMO.

I would recommend staying there because it is better than driving 30 minutes to a corporate hotel that will charge more. I was worried from the reviews that this place would be super unclean but it was rather nice! The entire hotel had a very clean smell and was not musty (although it looked like it should be lol) Our first room was spotless and the air smelled so fresh. However, it had a slightly leaky bathtub faucet that we knew would keep us up at night so we requested to switch rooms. They happily obliged and we were quickly moved to the room next door with less than a 15 minute wait! This room was clearly not used in a little while so it was a bit dustier but not so much as to bother our allergies. The bathrooms were very clean and I was especially impressed with our shower. The faucet was super easy to use and understand (what is it with hotels and their confusing shower faucets?? Why are the hot and colds switched??) the water warmed INCREDIBLY quickly and the water pressure was PERFECT! (Usually hotel showers have two pressure settings; peel your skin off or lightly pee on you) My only problem with the bathroom was that there were two sinks, one in the bathroom and one outside. For some unknown reason, the hotel decided to put the hand soap dispenser next to the OUTSIDE sink so you have to turn the door handle after flushing the toilet to get to the soap. The beds and blankets were comfy, the TV worked well, my dad thought it was hysterical that they had a DVD/VCR player. It really did give off major 2005 vibes from when I was little. The one chair we had in the room was an incredibly uncomfortable office chair that my mother did not appreciate as she did not want to sit in the bed the entire time and the chairs outside were wet from the rain. The lobby is quite nice with high ceilings and chandeliers but still giving a cozy vibe. The brown leather couches and chairs are very dated but INCREDIBLY comfy. So much so that my mother, who is very picky about her chairs, fell asleep in one!! The reason we were in the lobby though is the reason I subtracted one star. The Wi-Fi is incredibly spotty and often falls in and out. I know I know if you're in a state park you shouldn't bring electronics but some of us like to stay connected. If you stay here, expect to go to the lobby to be on your devices or bring a book. Overall the stay was nice. I'm interested in going back during the main season to see what the quality is like but I'd give this experience 3+1/2 stars Also a special shout-out to the gift shop!! The shopkeeper Gail (I may be spelling her name wrong) is lovely and makes her own art and sells a little bit of it with all the other cute stuff in there! She is an incredibly talented painter and I hope she adds more of her items to the store so my family can buy them when we come back!

One negative is that there were several spider webs on the balcony and some of the light fixtures in the room. They need to pay attention to these while cleaning.

We had spoken to Marge Anderson when we made reservations a few weeks before. She is wonderfully friendly and helpful. When we arrived, she showed us to our room. It was room #2 and looked out over the Ohio River. At the end of each day, we sat and watched the sun go down looking over the river. The room had a queen-sized bed, a sofa, a small refrigerator, coffee machine, a table and 2 chairs, a TV, and a bathroom. If there was one thing missing in the room it would be a dresser. We stayed there for four nights, and if we had been making a lengthier stay, the lack of a dresser would have been more of an issue. Other than that, the room is very comfortable and fairly good sized. The bed was amazing. We slept very well every night. The bathroom had a Jacuzzi tub, though we did not use it. Marge Anderson was very attentive to our needs. We very much enjoyed our stay there, and plan to stay there again when we visit Rising Sun again.

I had the best time at this Marriott. Looking at the photos I took of my room, I'm reminded just…read morehow much I loved my stay and will always remember it. My visit to Muncie was made all the better just by staying at this hotel. According to the internet, the official name of the hotel is the Courtyard by Marriott Muncie at Horizon Convention Center. Whatta mouthful! I'll just call it the Marriott. I never liked the term "conveniently located," because it raises the question: convenient to whom? It's such a nebulous, throwaway phrase. But literally, this Marriott is conveniently located in downtown Muncie, in the middle of the city and within steps of many restaurants and attractions. There's even a terrific restaurant attached to the hotel that's located downstairs (1925 Pubhouse). The hotel is next door to the Muncie Children's Museum, within sight of the Muncie Visitors Bureau, and across the street from a grassy area where many outdoor concerts happen during the summer. If you want to not use your car very much when you visit Muncie, but you want to do a lot and visit a lot of places, this is a good hotel at which to stay. One of the cool things about this Marriott is that it is a teaching hotel, and provides job training and employment for people with disabilities. I love that. The dude who checked me out of my room, and the homie who kindly sold me a cup of coffee and avocado toast, both had disabilities. My lovely interactions with them were an integral part of me loving my stay. As for my room: It had a comfy king-sized bed with lots of pillows, a TV that you can connect to Amazon Prime and other streamers to watch your favorite movies about hundreds of beavers, a mini fridge to store water bottles and chill a bottle of white wine, and a view that overlooks the city. It is a nice, clean, functional, comfortable, restful and special hotel.

The hotel is a Marriott franchisee owned by Arc of Indiana, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The hotel is a "teaching" hospital and plays host to the Erskine-Green Training Institute - Indiana's first statewide hospitality training center for individuals with disabilities. The goal is to train folks with disabilities for a competitive wage jobs. The hotel itself is a for profit project that provides an immersive training ground for those interested in hospitality industry jobs. The hotel is contractually obligated to have at least 20% of its employees be persons with disabilities. While Scott Wise's Thr3e Wisemen Brewery was part of the hotel in the beginning, it has been replaced by a similarly themed 1925 Pubhouse that also serves as a training restaurant for Erskine-Green. Opened in December 2015, this Courtyard is a six-floor hotel that is attached to Thr3e Wisemen, the Muncie Children's Museum and the Horizon Convention Center. Originally targeted for the old Roberts Hotel, which was snatched up and turned into condos before the project was greenlighted, the hotel ended up being built on land donated by the city of Muncie. During training, Erskine-Green Training Institute students stay at the hotel, unless they are relatively local and commute, while in their 10-13 week training programs. This also means, of course, that this Courtyard is one of the most accessible hotels you can imagine. Truly. It offers a variety of accessibility options in the majority of its rooms including wheelchair accessibility, roll-in showers, and adaptive equipment for both visual and hearing impairments. Some of the rooms even have automated doors (though, ironically, mine wasn't working during my most recent stay). The hotel was recently renovated as it nears its 10th anniversary. It offers spacious rooms, contemporary/clean decor, a fair pricing point, an in-house bistro that offers breakfast and dinner, an around-the-clock Starbucks option (not full menu), a nice and wheelchair friendly pool, a fitness center, and even a check-in center that has been made accessible. You should know, as it's a tad confusing, that the parking in front of the hotel actually belongs to the new condos. Don't park there. They seem a tad moody. Instead, there's a parking garage behind the hotel where guests park for free (It's $1 an hour if you're just visiting). There's no doubt my affection for Erskine-Green somewhat skews my rating, and I'll acknowledge that while I seldom have any issues on this visit the automatic door didn't work (and it's quite heavy without the automatic feature) and a packed house due to a convention clearly had the staff a bit overwhelmed. Minor quibbles (though having stayed from Friday evening to Sunday, I was a bit bothered that no one bothered to address the automatic door). On the plus side, a previous tip I'd made to lower the bed had actually been implemented. Bravo. As this is centrally located in downtown, the hotel attracts a variety of traveling guests, businesses, and others. On one visit, I even met the duo from Air Supply in town for a concert (If you don't know Air Supply, move on - I'm old. Get over it). The meeting rooms were nicely equipped, there were charging stations all over the place and even more since the recent renovation added charging stations at tables. Profits from this hotel go to benefit the Erskine-Green Training Institute and other ARC projects. So, you have a terrific room at a fair price with great service and you're supporting a great organization working to put folks with disabilities in the workforce. It really doesn't get much better than that.
