Prices are ridiculously steep for the fact that neither my partner nor I enjoyed our entrees. My filet tasted almost grainy, and my partner also felt the texture of his monkfish was off. I will say, the crab bisque was delicious and I see why that particular starter is a hit. I also ordered their Pinot Grigio which was tasty. Considering we've ordered similar menu items at comparable restaurants in major cities and paid notably less, we were underwhelmed. Final note that the food quality had nothing to do with the competence of our servers, every staff member and our waiter were very pleasant and personable. The atmosphere is cozy, classy, and historic as could be expected. Just definitely something off with the food and those prices. If you're looking into dinner here because you think the $$$ is a reflection of quality, I would say maybe reconsider! read more

So the ambiance is amazing and a cute little romantic spot. Unfortunately the food is just ok but not complaint worthy but also not something I can recommend someone order. I had the snapper which was dry but edible. The Caesar salad tastes mostly like anchovies which was too much for me but my husband liked it. I also had the bisque which was the second best thing I had. The first was the espresso martini. The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. A beautiful place for a fancy/romantic dinner. The ambiance in a big rustic wooden house is so romantic and lovely. The food is delicious but the portions are small. I ordered their Soup de jour, Caesar salad, trout, and chocolate crème brûlée. All very tasty. The reasons behind the missing star: It took too long to give us our bills without any explanation, we asked for two separate checks and the waitress agreed but at the end told us they can only divide the price by half! Therefore, their service although fast and friendly while serving food, did not deserve more than three stars. Also it was a little bit overpriced. Just had an excellent dinner at Helen's with my wife and 10 yo son. Not sure why there are so many negative reviews. Our food was excellent, from the crab bisque to the filets and the sea bass. We finished the night with 3 snickerdoodle crème brûlées. Everything was delicious and our server Kat was wonderful, super friendly. I feel bad that she had to climb the stairs. The setting is beautiful in the woods and the inside looks like an old log cabin. We took a shuttle from the hotel but did walk back after dinner. Always a nice dinner! Very warm, cozy and quiet, definitely a place you could spend a few hours in enjoying an excellent meal with nice cocktails or wine! Sometimes they have someone playing the piano which adds a nice touch to the overall experience. It's not attached to the hotel so prepare to walk outside or drive. Heard so many great things about Helen's - our experience was total opposite! Friends ordered (3) drinks took forever. Everyone in our party ordered Citrus Brined Chicken - before I order it, I asked the waitress what exactly do you get she said a breast and a leg - but when the dinners came out I was the only one who got both legs. I asked the waitress and her response was you're not guaranteed to get that - you get whatever they have in the kitchen?!?! What?!? This is supposed to be an upscale restaurant! Not so much! Very unprofessional! Also, what was supposed to be the citrus brined chicken was bbq chicken! Also, was jazz night - which was more like the piano man! This restaurant is supposed to be a fine-dining establishment, but the only trace of "fine-dining" was the unreasonable price! The food was average, the drinks were just ok, and the service was slow and, at times, not-so-friendly. It took them 20 minutes to bring the check, and while we asked for split checks for two families, they split in the middle, which we could do ourselves! I had the crab bisque, which was good, and the shrimp and scallops that had a strange sauce resembling ketchup! And this meal was 43 dollars, which was not worth it unless it tasted great (and it didn't!). I don't recommend the place unless you want to impress someone by the amount you are paying for a pretty average dinner! read more

Worst experience ever! We travel to ski resorts around the country, many Vail operated. We made reservations a month ago for New Years Eve dinner for 4. We are staying at the resort for 6 nights. We were 3rd table seated in the room. 4 tables filled in around us and no one came to.our table. Had to ask for WATER! Waited 15 minutes later and while tables around us were being attended to, we were ignored. Went back to manager to ask if we could be served while simultaneously the rudest waiter ever was telling my 26 year old son (military vet) that WE needed to be patient. At that point we got up to leave. Once we told the manager what happened he did absolutely NOTHING! One thing is for sure that Seven Springs can't hold a candle to any of the upscale resorts out west and apparently the local management could care less. Don't waste your time or money at this 3 ring circus of a resort. read more

Had dinner reservations this past Sunday, Feburary 19, at 7:30pm. Arrived at 7:25 and our party was seated at 7:30. Got water for the table at 7:35. At 7:45 our waitress appeared for the first time and took our drinks and appetizer order of a cheese plate (my wife and I both ordered cocktails while our son and his friend ordered soft drinks). At 7:50 our son's Coke arrived and the wait staff in our area (the back of the resturant) became fixated on clearing a table near us and setting it up for a table of six. Two waitresses (not ours) and the host worked on it but no attention was paid to our table. We sat there, menus in hand, one coke on the table (now finished) and nothing else. At 8:05, over a half hour after being seated, I reached my breaking point and we left. As others have mentioned the food is VERY expensive relative to the quality but I didnt mind paying for that as long as we received good service. I do mind, however, sitting for 35 minutes with no drinks and our entre order not even being taken yet. One item to note. When you enter Helen's you're in the bar area and tables there were very busy. Lots of support staff movement, food coming and going and it looked like everyone was being served promptly. In fact a couple that arrived directly after us was seated in that area and I could see they had recieved their drinks and salads already as we were leaving without even ordering yet. read more

Honestly, after visiting this restaurant, I am now disturbed at the 3.5 star rating. This restaurant exceeded me & my boyfriends expectations 100 fold. I'm originally from the area and used to very sub-par food options. This is comparable to restaurants visited in Baltimore, DC, Chicago and Atlanta. We are both huge foodies and appreciate great food, ambiance & creative dishes. The menu was creative, local farm to table vibe with beautiful pairings. The ambiance is equally just as amazing! We sat outside adjust the spring, it's just beyond what you'd ever get in any city!! Sit back k relax you'll love it! Our waiter, Christopher was phenomenal. He was much like us - food & wine experienced. Geat wine & cocktail knowledge and understood exactly what we wanted. We started with an extra dry martini with blue cheese stuff olives = extra dirty. Good choice! Starter - prawns with a mushroom polenta. Mushroom was understated but all combined great flavor. Flake salt would've been a nice touch. Prawns were cooked great. Extremely generous serving! Next course was the fin & feather salad. The dressing with candied pecans was so creative! Loved the light flavor and was great with all reds! The peppery finish with the fruit was beautiful. Our main courses were beyond filling! My boyfriend had the tenderloin with smashed potatoes & asparagus. I had the leg of lamb with butternut squash... The tenderloin (impeccably cooked with a tender & buttery texture.) outshone my lamb but, both were outstanding. The Lamb had a game like taste, which I have no complaints about! The ONLY thing I would change would be a "meatier" butternut squash without the sugary finish. It displayed well but the very slight portion of the butternut squash was a bit disappointing BUT the lamb was huge! The meat & potatoes were definitely a perfect meal with the tenderloin though. Hearty, thick, and good! Out came a super sweet gesture of the creme brûlée! Chocolate, blueberry & traditional with a local fav "peanut butter melt-away." I was thrilled as this is my favorite dessert and a local favorite of the melt-away. Here's the thing, this is a wonderful spot. We ate at Helen's during our weekend stay at Seven Springs resort in August. It was a wonderful dining experience. Sometimes the wines an establishment carries can tip you off on the experience you will have. Once I saw Helen's had a White Bordeaux on their menu I was excited. Not many restaurants know how good a White Bordeaux is. To me, having this on your menu says ... yep, we know what we are doing. First, our server appears with this steamy fresh baked bread. I could tell it was homemade. She then explained that they have a baker who makes this and its a 40 year old recipe. She loves baking and so bakes these breads for them every day. Even though I don't eat gluten, I had to try the bread. It was amazing. (photo below) We started off with the charcuterie board.(photo below) Manchego, Cheddar and an olive infused cheese all amazing. The honey served with the cheese had vanilla beans shaved into it which made it very savory. The greens are watercress which is grown right behind the building. In fact, everything at Helen's is sourced locally or grown on site. I ordered the grouper. Cooked to perfection and I really enjoyed the sweetness the creamed corn added. Its not often you find shishito peppers outside of a japanese restaurant. As these are one of my favorite peppers, I couldn't pass up this dish. I would order again. My niece ordered the filet and it turned out perfect for her. She really enjoyed it. I am not a dessert person (I'd rather have another glass of wine) unless there is something interesting on the dessert menu I've not seen before. Helen's didn't disappoint. A molten LEMON lava cake? What? Really really good. I have a weakness for lemon desserts though. (see photo) I've eaten at many places in the world and consider myself a foodie. Went Helen's 11/18. The food was edible but not good, and nowhere near the quality of a fine dining restaurant. Everyone in my party ordered filet, and all portions were over cooked. We also agreed that the filet was either very poor quality or not an actual filet. Mine was "stringy" like a chuck roast! The service was adequate. read more

Pro Tip: Helens is not connected to the hotel or main lodge. It is within walking distance, however, if it is cold, have the front desk call for a shuttle. The dress code is business casual. The service at Helen's was excellent, in fact, all the staff at 7Springs are very accommodating and pleasant. Seared Filet | 54 Potatoes Dauphangua | Asparagus | Red Wine Demi Don't be fooled by the word Seared. My wife and I both ordered this dish, and both ordered the filets cooked medium. Neither of the two steaks was seared, in fact, I think that it's fair to say that both steaks were put into an oven straight out of the package. I spoke to another couple later in the evening that had eaten at the buffet restaurant in the lodge. They both had the prime rib and reported that it was very good. All you can eat for $42, or Ehh for $54. read more

We visited Helen's for dinner our first night at Seven Springs. Wow they set the bar high! This was a truly outstanding food experience (even with my food allergies)! Sigh... Helen's is beautiful. It's a renovation of a historic home, with views of the slopes and surrounding snowy woods from floor to ceiling windows at the entryway. We dined in a small semiprivate room (of several available) with a fire blazing and ambient lighting. The food is delicious. I had pan seared scallops, roasted vegetables, and salad greens with sunflower seeds and fruit. Yum! The service was polite, discreet, and attentive. We had our peppercorn cracked and wine poured as we liked. It's so nice to eat out and enjoy good food with family! I'm so thankful for a wonderful evening. read more

I've been wanting to eat at Helen's for years and finally did last night - it was worth the wait. Everything from the thoughtful, knowledgeable staff to the romantic ambiance to the succulent meal -- it was all perfect. The chef went out of their way to prepare special vegan dishes for us including an incredible melt-in-your-mouth tofu sushi roll with homemade yum yum sauce. My main course was the best gnocchi I've ever tasted in my life. I can't recommend this place highly enough. read more

Went during a boardgame convention with a friend of mine. Let me start by saying the service was very good. My friend is on a very restrictive diet but they were able to accommodate him. All the servers were friendly and attentive. For starters I had the Oysters two ways; raw and grilled. I was not impressed as I thought they were very small. Next came the heirloom tomato soup which made up for the oysters. Very tasty soup with just the right amount of seasoning. I was really disappointed that they didn't have the Trout which was one of the reasons I wanted to go there so I opted for the Vegan Sweet Potato Gnocchi. It was awesome. I thought it might have been too sweet, but it wasn't. The wine list is very large and the addition of live music was nice. My only other complaint is that it's on the pricey side. read more

Interesting experience today at Helen's at Seven Springs. Beautiful location, very good staff. It was our anniversary and they gave us two glasses of complimentary champagne. Very nice of them. The crab bisque was good as always and is semi prepared tableside. Nice touch! The downside was my main, Steak Diane. I asked for medium well and there was blood. Not a fan, but worst was the cut itself. It was the toughest $33 steak I have ever had. Very chewy. The thing is, I make this same dish at home and you cannot use a cheap tough cut it has to be a strip or something of that quality at minimum. I think they used a baseball steak...google it. I am not saying don't go to Helen's. The atmosphere is really nice, crab bisque is really good, and our dessert, the lemon curd lava cake was excellent. They just really need to think about this particular steak dish. It was horrible. read more

I would give it 5 stars and I am sure they deserve it, but I had a little too much to drink at the Lodge before venturing or should I say meandering there. Helen's is the original home of the Dupres' built over 65 years ago and the founders of the Seven Spring's Resort, Mr. Dupres'built this in 1932 and he was a craftsman. The beams are hand-hewn and the building has a lot of stonework. A beautiful rustic fireplace, a cozy loft and many artifacts are still in the cabin. Today, Helen's is twice the size of their original home. Helen's is a wonderful short stroll away from the Seven Spring's lodge, with waterfalls from mountain springs falling softly on the rocks. Very romantic with a partner, but Mom and I still enjoyed the magic. The dining experience is unique and diverse. Escargot en Champagne, along with many other appetizers, including fresh sushi hand rolls, served with wasabi, ginger, soya sauce such as a spider roll with spicy cream cheese, Alaskan crab meat, avocado and cucumber. Sides include risotto, asparagus, candied carrots, garlic rapini and spinach, mashed sweet potatoes and Mongolian lo mein. These may sound like simple sides but they are prepared beautifully. Their salads are very unique and I try to mimic the baby spinach, strawberries and walnut salad at home and serve it with a balsamic vinaigrette. Entrees include twin lobster tails, pheasant Helena, which are hazelnut egg-battered medallions with a Frangelico butter sauce, wild duck, brook trout, Mongolian style New Zealand lamb, salmon roulades which are spice crusted, seared and served with a Grand Marnier-mandarin orange creme sauce, snow peas and lobster served with crispy Asian noodles, Osso Bucco and many others, including a few specialty pasta dishes. They are entertaining with table side service for their delicious Caesar salad and Steak Diane. Kudos to them for using many local ingredients when possible. ( Like homemade venison keilbassi. ) A must try if in the area or a romantic get away. read more

I am a long time fan of Helen's and it's been an annual treat to have lunch here during Seven Springs Autumnfest. Every visit is a treat, we always share a crab bisque. And then select a delicious meal, whether it's a special salad or sandwich. And every time, the food is delicious and the service is outstanding. The food has not changed much at Helen's. The service has. We were greeted and seated right away. It was a bit of a wait to order beverages. And a wait for a brew. And it sorta became a bit of joke amongst the nearby diners. A server came out a couple of times baffling about how they ran out of this wine. And next they had lost the keys to the alcohol chest? But the server was more than happy to walk down to Foggy Goggles to pick up the needed beverage. Finally we got to order. And it was a long wait for our crab bisque. We waited. And waited. And finally our super effervescent server delivered the soup with the entire meal. All at the same time. Well except my fries. The fries arrived probably another 30 minutes after the ketchup showed up. Later, after we were half done eating, she arrived with a pepper grinder. And it went kind of like that for the rest of our meal. Another couple arrived a bit later and even though tables were empty, they were not cleaned and ready to go like in a real restaurant. So, they had to wait at the bar. And wait. And wait. Needless to say, we didn't stick around for dessert. It was even a hassle to get our check and another hassle to get our credit credit picked up. Not sure if the restaurant is under different management. Or no management. Not sure if we will be trying them, again. Such a disappointment. read more

After reading the most recent reviews on this restaurant I was skeptical but I figured why not give it a try. I'll start with the positives and end with the negatives. The atmosphere was warm and cozy next to the fireplace. Our waiter was professional, attentive, and polite. There was a guy playing tunes on the piano which was nice. One of the waitresses performed a coffee trick, she poured the coffee into the cup while balancing it on her shoe. Neat-o! Alright, the negatives were the portion sizes. All seven people in our party ordered something different. Every plate came out with a very small serving of food. On a positive note they did provide us with two servings of bread which was helpful. However, the bus boy snatched the 3 slices of bread before I could say stop. That extra bread could of helped with the emptiness in my stomach. The food was good but they need to give you a little more. The most recent reviews are accurate. Overall not a bad experience but overall a bit too expensive for what you get. read more

We had our Christmas dinner here and it was amazing. We started with their charcuterie (small) and fell in love with the beemster cheese and the gjetost cheese on the platter. I ordered the Colorado lamb chops and it was done to perfection. The seasoning was light or too heavy. I almost forgot about the mushroom barley risotto that came with. The portion was surprisingly large. My husband orders the venison chop and that too was amazing. It's our first time trying venison. It had a smell to the meat which was interesting and good. The meat was good and lean. Now I can understand why Americans love to hunt deer. It's definitely good meat. The service was excellent and never missed a beat. For the price of the dishes, you'd expect much higher quality dinning experience. The atmospher is nice with live piano playing in the main dinning area by the bar and overall customer service is good. However, the dishes are all overcooked. I have better chicken at my local Peruvian chicken fast food with tons of flavors and the meat is still juicy. The chicken at Helen's was so dry and tasteless, it was like chewing paper. My moon fish was a disaster they matched it with the Blood Orange Beurre Blanc which is bland on top of a bland fish. The moon fish itself has no flavor and is again overcooked. It's not a flaky fish but more like a salmon texture so the center needs to be just barely done to keep the fish moist. The lamb is also overcooked and portion is rather small. The only mediocre dish is the trout but again the bacon bits was not crispy and also didn't help to enhance the flavor of the sauces for the fish. And the bread pudding, it's not a difficult dessert but hard to make it perfect. The best bread pudding I've had is the inside is soft and soaked with the sauce but top and outside is crispy and comes with a drizzle of raspberry sauce which balanced the richness of the sauces and the creamy ice cream. read more

We went to Helen's and it started off positively. Crab bisque and the charcuterie board were prepared perfectly. We all really enjoyed the above. Now the bad ..... let's start with the mixed drinks .... The raspberry mojitos are better prepared at any chain restaurant bar up and down the strip. The lamb chop dinner was very underwhelming. I'm Italian so maybe my idea of risotto and theirs is very different. It tasted like something that would be served in a nursing home , undercooked and zero flavor. Then again the comment about the nursing home is false it was crunchy and cold so it wouldn't have cut the mustard there either. Lamb was ordered medium rare and it was rare at best. Carrot side had nothing on them just thrown on the plate. Extremely dissatisfied and underwhelming flavor. Not of the old Helen's standards at all. Next the filet was overcooked and potatoes were cold. All simple quality identifiers. Over priced and underwhelming is a terrible combination in the restaurant industry . I hope they get back to where they once were years back. We will not be returning - 400 for dinner I expect more. Period. read more
