What used to be my favorite restaurant has gone completely in the sewer! The menu never changes.. the service was completely awful! It took us 3 hours to have lunch yesterday. We had to ask for our check 4 times. The crab bisque was literally 3 tablespoons and used to be a big bowl full. When we questioned our check which had someone else's drinks on it, the manager Christine, came to our table and instead of apologizing, criticized us for having a large group and 1 person "bouncing table to table" i didn't realize we aren't permitted to socialize at helens..I'm sorry we are all locals and u have lost 10 frequent customers! Several years ago, my mother, having long given up the hassle of holiday cooking, made reservations for Thanksgiving dinner at Helen's. This past Thanksgiving dinner was no different and made for our fourth year in a row. That being said, this review is based solely on the Thanksgiving service. To start with, the whole meal is served family style with all of the traditional Thanksgiving fare (and some not so traditional). You start with a salad and as you are finishing that up, the chef brings out the turkey and carves it table-side. The sides are as follows: rolls, mashed potatoes. sweet potatoes, creamed peas and onions, buttered noodles, three different types of stuffing, and more that I can't even remember. You then got a choice of different desserts including apple pie, pumpkin pie, and chocolate creme brulee. All in all, the food is absolutely wonderful. Although it may seem pricey, the value is far better than their normal menu. The really awesome thing is that they continue to refill all of your sides and then send all of the leftovers home with you. In addition, the atmosphere is absolutely lovely inside of this cozy cabin. There were a few problems that we experienced this year that we hadn't in previous years. For one, the restaurant clearly overbooked and the tables were close enough that privacy was lacking and the room got REALLY loud. In addition, the waiters were struggling to keep up with the demands of constantly refilling side dishes and drinks. Again, this was a result of the overbooking. My mom was upset so the next day she placed a call to Helen's and asked to have someone call her back. The new food and beverage manager actually came down to meet us at the bar at the main lodge, listened to her complaints, promised to remedy them for next year, and comped our drinks. This type of customer service really impressed all of us. Despite these problems, there is no doubt that we will continue to return to Helen's for Thanksgiving dinner. You cannot beat the atmosphere, fabulous food, and the lack of a cleanup. read more

First time dining at Helen's. I was a bit apprehensive based on the Yelp reviews and only 3&1/2 star rating, but it was our friend's birthday and her choice so we went. It is a lovely, quaint location at the bottom of the Seven Springs slopes. The dress code is "resort casual" or you can dress up. This is a great spot for a romantic, quiet dinner. Frank Sinatra and Michael Buble music plays in the background, and there's even a live piano player in the main space. We were seated in a back room, right next to a pantry which wasn't an ideal spot. The chef sent out a sample dish, not quite sure what it was. Wasn't crazy about the bread and butter - was too sweet for my taste. I ordered the lobster bisque and it was delightful. I had ordered caesar salad too but after seeing how large it was I opted out which was a good decision. Husband ordered the filet with lobster mac and cheese special. We enjoyed the wine! Opted out of dessert since we had birthday cake back at our cabin. I would go back here for a special occasion. read more

It's been a few years since we had been to Helen's but last night's dinner was great. We went for Thursday night jazz night. The entertainment was great though I wouldn't call it jazz since the young lady sang most songs from the 70s and 80s ballads. Her voice and guitar playing was very soothing during dinner. They have a special menu on Thursday but everything was perfect. The turtle soup and cheese plate starters were rich and well chosen. The special Rose wine list was very nice. The steaks were cooked to perfection and the dessert of gelato flight featuring double chocolate, caramel and cherry was a great finishing touch. Don't forget to add a side of mashed potatoes. Yummy. Best meal we had in PA. Love the ambiance and how they have kept the original interior of the old lodge. We brought our three small (9,7,4) children and they were very accommodating. Kids loved their food which could have been shared by all three. The vanilla bean cocktail was amazing and they boast a very nice wine list! The view from the front overlooking the mountain is beautiful, but we had loud kids so we sat toward the back near the fireplace. It was so nice and cozy for us all. I had scallops, one child had a steak (cooked perfectly medium rare) and husband had fish dish as well. So glad we went. Worth the $$. read more

Beautiful, scenic view was the best part of the experience. We had reservations and waited at the check in desk for some time before going in search of someone to seat us. Meal was mediocre for the price. I had the goat cheese/beet salad, fried goat cheese balls. . .eh, I could have done without them. Trying to make a reservation here is like Ground Hog Day. I am going somewhere else because making a reservation is impossible.

Ate here with my husband on a Tuesday night. Crowd was small but that is to be expected with the crappy weather poor Seven Springs has been enduring as of late... We tend to be a little more laid back so we dined at the bar and had a great conversation with the bartender who really knew her stuff not only about the wines and spirits but the food as well. I believe her name was Kate. Very friendly! Started off with a Chefs sample of venison pastrami with goat cheese on a baguette that was to die for! Should be on the menu! I had scallops that were seared to perfection atop a wonderful risotto. Husband had elk tenderloin medallions that he couldn't stop talking about! This was by far my favorite part of the Seven Springs resort. The rustic atmosphere combined with fine dining was very unique and fun to be a part of it. Extremely disappointed with Helen's. My family has been dining at this restaurant for 20+ years. The restaurant and management have significantly declined. The bartender/manager is brass, aggressive and rude to both her employees and customers. The restaurant was empty during our experience, and can only be blamed on the management of the business. I've worked in the service industry for many years and have never seen such an incompetent woman scare away clientele. It is obvious that the restaurant is not as busy as they use to be, and it can only be explained after management changed. Scaring away patrons willing to spend hundreds of dollars on a meal? Helen's is no longer concerned with upholding their fine dining experience. There are plenty of restaurants both on the 7springs property and off property that patrons can go to without being tormented by the manager. Save yourself the horrible experience of dining with such a wretched woman. There are plenty of other great places to dine at 7Springs somewhere like Mountain Club, Slopeside or Out of the Fire. read more

Horrendous. Cons: Dinner for 2 ... Starter - Lobster Cassoulet and Noir Tuna. Tuna was near spoiled and would have resulted in food poisioning (it was sent back to avoid this fate). Lobster Cassoulet was well seasoned with bits of rubber maquerading as lobster. Main Courses - (Signature Dish) Rack of Lamb (Medium Well) ... cold, outside and in. Far from nicely seared and juicy as one would expect. Vegetables over done and tasteless. Seared Scallops ... Burned beyond recognition and most likely to be repurposed as hockey pucks (sent back as well). Rissota was a tasteless paste bordering on glue. Pros: Corteous wait staff and reception. It is a shame they must cover for a woeful kitchen. Bottom line: For the price ... this establishment falls far short. read more

Went for valentines day and ordered an attractive 5 course special. It included some of our favorite food items, so needless to say we have much to compare. The service was as slow as we've experienced. The pricing was in line of some of the finest restaurants we've eaten at so we expected it to be fine dining. Last night I had the most amazing meal here with the most incredible waiter. The heating system wasn't quite adequate enough to handle single digit temperatures, so we were warned ahead of time that the conditions might be a little icy. Upon arrival, we were prepared for the worst. Rick, our incredible waiter, met us at the door and escorted us to the best seat in the house.....right next to the fireplace! After looking over the wine list, he was very helpful with selecting the perfect wine for our budget and palate. Throughout dinner, he was spot on with suggestion after suggestion, guiding us like a pilot through what could have been a rough and turbulent culinary storm!!!! It's nice to know that when you go somewhere of such prestige, they also have the staff to provide service which goes hand in hand with the gourmet meal. When we said we were leaving they miraculously found us a window table. Terrible service & waited endlessly for not so great food. Nothing was fast, but it all went well. The food all tasted very nice and we really enjoyed. My only feedback, and the reason for only *** is that it is overpriced for what it is. This restaurant was fantastic. My family and I were in town for a birthday weekend and decided to have a nice meal out on our final night in the area. First of all, our family likes to laugh and joke and Chris, our server was playful and fun and really made the evening perfect for my family and I. Additionally, I have several allergies and never really expect to eat out, usually ordering something very plainly spiced and simplistic. When I asked Chris to speak with the Chef, I did not expect for him to 1.) know my allergies specifically 2.) go through each ingredient and preparation with me thoroughly. This was honestly one of the nicest and most understanding Chefs I have ever spoken to and I hope that this individual gets the recognition and praise they deserve. I have not had a full meal out in nearly 8 years and a magnificent one at that! I savored that meal entirely. Chris helped us choose from the wine menu to pair with the meals and deserts which were outstanding around the whole table! We still rave about the meals and service! I only give it a one star because there is no minus. I ordered the spinach salad and what a disappointment it was. The bacon dressing is bacon grease. It was horrible. A few pieces of spinach with some mushrooms to the side alone with shaved red onion. The dressing is just drippings. It made me sick. I asked that the raw egg be left off of my salad. It was the worst salad that I have ever encountered. My mother order the walleye sandwich. She could not eat the bun. It was so hard that she could not even cut it. She was not the only one, we noticed that the table next to us could not eat their bun. I am so disappointed in this. One of the servers assured us that it is better at dinner. So I guess just skip it for lunch??? I know that I sure will!!!! This was my birthday, my sisters and my mothers birthday lunch from my husband. He felt so bad that it went so bad.
