Best place to eat in Somerset!!! We sat in the bar. Table seating. Service was excellent. A little loud, but it's a bar. For an appetizer we ordered the steamed mussels. Good portion but we noticed that they were a little salty. Guessing it was maybe they used a salted butter with the white wine. Good sized though. I'd do them again. Thursday is $2 off burger night. My wife got a bacon cheeseburger and it was excellent. Very big burger. Nicely sized tomatoes....not super thin. Had some size to them. Bun was good and didn't get soggy. Burger was not over seasoned and cooked perfectly to requested temperature. I got the highly recommended brisket grilled cheese. Way too salty. The brisket itself was salty and the cheddar cheese that they use is the liquid kind so that was highly salty as well. The salty was just overpowering unfortunately. I only ate half of it. I wouldn't do this one again. Fries were super. Coleslaw would've been better if it was cold. The waitress did take half off my grilled cheese which was very kind of her. We stay in Somerset quite often and have tried all of the different restaurants. The Oakhurst is BY FAR the best. Will definitely return. read more

I ordered the spaghetti dinner. How can you mess up a spaghetti dinner. The noodles were soggy from overcooking, the meatballs had too much salt. The room was so noisy I couldn't hardly hear a person next to me. I was just existing there. read more

This was a great surprise. The place has been updated and has a very friendly and friendly atmosphere. Haven't been here for years and will be going back sooner than later. We were met by an upbeat and welcoming waitress who, you can tell, loves her job. She went over the menu and highlighted the specials. We went with the honey glazed chicken and grilled salmon. Both had baked potatoes, wife had brussel sprouts and I the asparagus. Everything had a wonderful flavor. If I had to nitpick about anything I would say both proteins were cooked one minute too long. There aren't many restaurants in the area, but we were happy to find this place when we were here for the weekend. We got the Stuffed Banana Peppers, Reuben, and Smoked Brisket Grilled Cheese. I was pleasantly surprised by the meal. Everything was good. My favorite thing was probably the Smoked Brisket Grilled Cheese. I liked the fries more than the chips because the chips were too salty. Everything was much better than I expected and I would definitely say it's worth eating at if you're staying in the area. read more

Great food and awesome friendly staff. I have been to this place many times with friends and with family and it is always well worth the money. The burgers are outstanding, the giant pretzel is our favorite app. I have had way too many good sandwiches, and dishes to mention here. The service is always so friendly and great to deal with. Friday nights seafood pots are delicious and worth every penny. About as good of seafood as you can get so far from the coast!! read more

We arrived for an event, beautiful fireplace, not lit. It was a very chilly night and the warmth and ambiance would have been welcome. Did not order off menu, it was buffet. Came here for the first time last night and was very impressed with this business. The staff was very helpful, friendly and quick. The place itself was clean, nice size and cozy. We ordered crab legs and WOW they were fresh, seasoned and very nice size. In town overall there are not too many places that sell snow crab legs (they might be the only one). This place is legit. I actually asked our server if this place was in Bar Rescue or something like that. The grille area is nicely appointed, not too crowded or too loud. It serves a great selection of beer and the food so good. I came here with my sons and we didn't have tremendous expectations because it's up here on the mountain...but seriously every single thing we had was cooked right, presented well, and was delicious. The homemade chips were crisp and crunchy, the fish was light and delicious, the pizza logs were just so good. I had the club, which is typically a throwaway sandwich, but this had real carved turkey and ham on it. They care and it shows. We used to come here years ago under different owners and it was fine, but we're definitely coming back and bringing my wife. Good. So good. read more

Tried the Sunday Brunch for the first time since they began serving a brunch which was on April 24, 2022. I can only speak about what I had yesterday (Sunday; May 1st). Scrambled Eggs: Dry, didn't look quite like scrambled eggs. Sausage: Only had patties, just ok, nothing special, wouldn't have liked to have had a choice of patties and links. Butcher Cut Beef: Dry, couldn't compare to the way it was years ago. Potato Cubes: Nothing special, same old-same old. Salmon: Fine, again nothing special. French Toast: Fantastic, a bit unique, not the same old sliced french toast. Cheesy Rice & Broccoli: Nothing special, just ok if you could get it off of the serving spoon. Chocolate Milk to drink: Fine, not the best I've had and not the worst. Summery: Not worth to even close to the $24.99/person that it cost. The back portion of the restaurant where they have the brunch had been closed off for remodeling for several months. What they did during this time I'll never know. In addition to the entire room looking a bit shabby, in the left corner close to where I was sitting was a huge puddle of water that continued to get larger as the rain increased outside. I'm not from the area and we stopped here for dinner. It was awesome! We went in a Friday and they have seafood pots and steak on special. My crab legs were cooked to perfection! My boyfriends steak was awesome and cooked perfectly. Our service was great as well. The peach adult slushies tasted like a creamsicle! I can't wait to go back! read more

We went here for the Sunday dinner buffet and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious and obviously homemade. It was typical comfort food lasagna, Mac n cheese, beef stew, ham pot pie, pork n sauerkraut, . The ham and cabbage soup smelled so good so I had to indulge and tasted just as good as it smelled. My only con was the coconut cake and gob cake didn't taste quite as good as it looked. Kinda dry. I left there so full I couldn't eat for the rest of the day. Will come back someday but not too soon. GREAT BAR. Best thing new owners have done! If I was rating only bar I would have given a FIVE star rating. 20 micro brews on tap -always seasonal & new beer offerings. Bar menu is good. SKIP the steaks. No consistency & always over cooked. DO TRY the brisket & bacon grilled cheese. It will change your life. I realize new owners are between a rock & a hard place on changes/updates. Too many changes ticks off "old" base. But the change to Friday seafood buffet was universal bad. Took away all you can eat crab legs. Yes, they lowered the buffet price but without AYCE crab legs price doesn't matter. They offer to sell crab legs per pound with seafood bar but what's the point? We went there for decades specifically for the ayce crab legs. Will not return for seafood buffet. read more

This was the worst seafood buffet I have ever been to, the fish was like rubber and cold the scallops were microscopic in size the clams and mussels were covered in a awful tomato sauce and they charge you a extra ten dollars a pound for crab legs. And the service matched the food. Advoid at all cost, you will get much better seafood at a Chinese restaurant. And this place is incredibly over priced. read more

I'm speechless. We have always seen a lot of cars in parking lot when we come by here on way to ski resorts so decided to finally stop in for the Sunday brunch today. It was just awful -'we couldn't find one thing that tasted or looked good. Even the coffee and lemonade were tasteless . I cannot imagine how this place stays open with food this bad. And absolutely no atmosphere either- bare tables, bright lights...it looks like an institutional cafeteria. We all agreed it was the worst restaurant we've ever been to . 80.00 poorer and sad end to vacation . Giving it a 1 Star only because our waitress was very nice . read more

Since I was born (1981), my parents have taken me to Oakhurst Tea Room. When it was the Tea Room, it was wonderful. Now that the new owners have it and they put more emphasis on the bar than the buffet, there is much to complain about. Each year we return, as we did yesterday. We hoped against hope things would have gotten better in a year. It was worse. Old, dry mac & cheese (the old owner's version tasted like Stouffer's), the beef was dry, thought for a minute they had the much-desired french-fried bananas but they were really mini corn dogs that had previously been frozen... the list about the food could go on and on. My daughter (5 yrs) liked her ham and rigatoni, but she said her cookies were hard. They were VERY slow to take dishes away and when they did during the first part of our meal, they didn't even ask if we needed to keep our utensils. So that left us in a lurch. The once-comfortable padded chairs and lovely linen tablecloths from the old Oakhurst are now hard (arguably more up to date) chairs that you can't stand to sit on for long, and black tables. The background music was some sort of metal or rock that didn't make customers feel like they could relax while having their dinner. The ambience (again, arguably more modern and up to date) is very cold; the nice antiques that once adorned the long walls of the dining room are gone and there is nothing to look at but pale painted dry wall. I am ALL for people trying to reconstitute a business but you HAVE to look at the success the previous owners had and say to yourself, that has to account for something! No matter how outdated a place looked, it WORKED. Anytime we went on the weekends, there would be buses of people coming in. Are there still buses coming in now? We will be back in a year, I'm sure because for us, there is no where else in Somerset to go; this was our tradition and the new owners are ruining it. Please bring back a little of what worked in the past. We miss it, and I'm sure we aren't the only ones. read more

This was the worst dining experience we have ever had! The food was all dried out, yet it was not hot - how does that happen?? The staff was wandering around the buffet, but nobody was stirring the food to keep it hot and moist. So the food on the tops of the trays was not hot at all, and the gravies had a lukewarm skin on them. There were flies all over the dining area, and they were on the tables (and on the desserts!). People were actually moving to other tables to try to avoid the flies. When we paid our bill (yes, they charged $14.99 per person), I let the person know at the register know how bad everything was, and I told her the flies were a major problem - which I'm sure they already knew! When we left, other people approached me and said how bad their meals were too -- This restaurant went from bad to horrible!!! I gave this restaurant one star, only because the review would not post with no stars. We will not be returning! read more
