The fries were much better than I expected. Overall, I would only recommend this location for the food, make it to-go, and order ahead! The service left little to be desired. We walked in around 11:15am (they opened at 11am). It took a few minutes for a man to come from the back to acknowledge us. The menu screens were not working. I said we'd never been there, had just got off a plane and wanted to try this restaurant. Blank stare. We ordered. It took 35 minutes for us to get our food in to-go containers (we were not asked here or to-go). There were food delivery companies coming and going. No one else ordered food to eat in the restaurant. Sadly I have to say I would not go back. I did like the food. But the building, facilities, and overall condition of everything was poor. I wanted to really like the place. I was ready to walk out after 20 minutes of waiting (and lose the $25 we paid for two pieces of chicken and an order of fries) but I was convinced to stay. 15 mins later, here comes our order. The entrance, the outdoor ordering area, the parking, the wait...all zeros. But when you do get the food and taste it, you make a plan to come back. Call in the order ahead of time? About 30-40 minutes ahead of time actually. We ordered the fried chicken legs, with Cajun seasoning, whiting with Cajun, fries, mac and cheese, potato salad, and beans. Everything was delicious, but the star to me was the juicy chicken legs. I would have given them 5 stars but I know the oil they were fried in was not too fresh. The food is great! Everything hot and freshly cooked. The honey hot on the chicken is excellent and the Nashville hot catfish sandwich was huge and delicious. These guys give you FLAVOR not just heat and they have the best prices. I got a huge catfish sandwich for $8.99 with fries included. 2 quarters for the same. If you don't want to wait call ahead they cook to order. I have been to many fish/ chicken places across the area from the mainstream to the mom and pops. Nobody is doing it better than these guys. Just shut this place ! There is no sense of urgency with these guys! It took an hour for one order of chicken tenders and two shrimp baskets. I have ordered from here multiple times now and it is one of the most consistently good restaurants. I always get lemon pepper chicken tenders and they are always hot and Crispy and well seasoned. Went to pick up an order and there was a lady working the front and a guy cooking. While I waited I asked the lady why she wasn't wearing a mask and she snapped that she didn't have to because she wasn't cooking. I could clearly see the cook and he not only wasn't wearing a mask but he was preparing the food without gloves on! I saw him prepare and cook 3 different orders of chicken with no gloves and not even washing his hands between orders. I said something to the lady and she said it was none of my business. Probably some of the best grease (I mean chicken) in Antioch. They never answered the phone so I could call ahead of time so I had to wait about 30 minutes to get my order just to get home and realize it was wrong. (Fault of my own) BUT!! The chicken still has a really good flavor. And is actually seasoned right. The customer service was also really nice even with the long wait. I've eaten my fair share of chicken from fast food chains to Amish restaurant to fine restaurants serving chicken. So far Hella Hot Chicken and Bolton's Spicy Chicken & Fish reign as my favorite. Hella Hot Chicken (HHC) is a hole in the wall. Its exterior facade mirrors its interior environment, dilapidated, grimy, and uninviting. The toilet room stinks and there are little bugs strutting around like it was naturally at home. But if you can ignore the ambience and leave your preconceived expectations at the door then you'll rewarded with very good chicken. The chicken is crunchy, lightly breaded and adequately oiled. The spice is potent but isn't overwhelming. I also recommend their homemade juice bottle. I bought the mango juice and it was good. Remember, when you visit, be patient. Unlike Church's chicken which bask under a heat lamp for who know how long, freshly fried chickens require time so if you don't want to wait, I'd suggest you do call ahead and do carry-out. Good food requires an exercise in patience and inconvenience. If you want fast and convenience then by all means visit fast food chain or the supermarket. I'm giving this place a 4 out of 5 stars, a star deducted for low hygiene.
