    Bougatsa
    Pabs G.

This hole in the wall is tucked away in the corner of Vineyard and Liliha. Parking entrance is on Liliha St. The Bougatsa is my favorite, so far. Made with ground meat, tomatoes and onions, and baked in phyllo sheets. So delicious! The flaky phyllo absorbs the delicious juices. Forget about utensils. This one is surely best eaten with clean hands! I wish I bought two! Next time, I will! And I shall inhale them just as I did today. The Mount Olympus Souvlaki is fit for a HUGE appetite! I don't think Konishki could finish this in one sitting. It's huge! It's like a gigantic pita burger with your choice of pork, chicken or lamb. Loaded with round white and red onions, which is lovely with the meat. They ran out of lamb so we tried it with pork. Delicious! Order extra yogurt sauce with this because you will need it! The Spanakopita was not so good. I prefer mine using phyllo sheets, but this was made using flour, I think. It's a far cry from the traditional ones with phyllo sheets. Texture was way too hard and the filling was not so tasty. I'll skip this the next time I go there. Order door is from the parking lot side (not on Vineyard). Take out only. Many pre-ordered so that's what I'll do next time, but it wasn't a long wait either. Kitchen area looked clean. You can scan the QR code at the door or they have a menu with photos inside the shop. Overall, great experience. The food is reasonably priced given today's inflation. Supporting small local businesses is a must! Eating real food vs fast food is better for good health. I am sure to update this after trying more menu options, especially the lamb. Update: The bougatsa remains my favorite! I love the beef, but it's still a bit too greasy for me. I will air fry it today hoping the phyllo that sopped up all the grease will turn out crispy. The dessert bougatsa is very delicious. The custard is not too sweet and I love the flaky phyllo. Highly recommend. I would order a pan of this! I would bring this to a potluck party. I could eat this daily. Yes, it's that good! The dolmates are GIGANTIC! Almost the size of lumpia!!! 4 dolmas per serving. It was delicious but didn't have the pine nuts that I am accustomed to. The feta sauce complimented the dolma filling. The gel galaktobuprek (spelling) was way too sweet and thick for me. Reminds me of a thick coconut pie. Perhaps it would be ok as a 1/2 tsp serving size. If you crave for sweets, then this is the dessert for you. Suggest you place an order EARLY on Friday because they do run out.

Authentic greek gyros! Eggplant dip and rice pudding in the middle. :-)

Yum yum! I can't believe I found authentic Greek cuisine via Instagram! I've been meaning to check them out for a while and finally got the chance to this past weekend when my husband and I were in town for other business. I knew it was time to try out Greek Aloha Kitchen! They are located within a small shop in Kalihi, and to access them to order, you go to the open door in the back where the parking is. There's a pretty good-sized menu considering how small the place is and that they're only open on Fridays and Saturdays for a few hours a day. We ordered the traditional greek pork gyro and my husband got the Mount Olympus, which is the same thing only bigger! We also shared an order of the eggplant dip and got rice pudding for dessert. They said to give them a few minutes to put our order together, and they weren't kidding. It literally took them 2 or 3 minutes to prepare our order and we were on our way! (Note, this place is takeout only!) We went to a nearby botanical garden and found a bench, then dove in. The food was delicious! The pork was marinated and juicy, and the french fries inside the gyros were crunchy. The eggplant dip smelled SO good and tasted even better. Garlicky yumminess. The rice pudding for dessert was very rich and decadent and it was a great way to end the meal. The price for all of it was about $45, which I guess is typical takeout prices these days. Overall, I'd go back in a heartbeat, and I'm super thankful to have some authentic greek fare on the island!

Greek cuisine in Liliha, Honolulu, Hawaii... Only open for 2 days a week (Fridays and Saturdays) for about 4 hours each day, Greek Aloha Kitchen has been on my "List of Places to Go" ever since I read Lyla D.'s review. I had to plan my visit well and squeeze it in-between appointments. Exactly at 11am (when the business opens), I placed my order online. As I drove to Liliha to pick up my lunch, my order was confirmed! Whew! I entered the free parking lot from Vineyard Boulevard because my GPS directed me here. I would recommend entering the parking lot from Liliha Street where the driveway is wider. Walking up to the door, a friendly young man greeted me. I told him my name and he said that he'd bring my order out in a couple of minutes. I took some photos and my package was ready to go! At home, my sisters gathered around me as I opened the bag. Yummy, exotic food emerged! We shared the Pork Souvlaki (a skewer with tender cubes of flavorful meat), the Spanakopita Plate (ooh - the crust is good!), and the Greek Style Pork Gyros - wow... delicious! My niece also tasted the food and liked it! I'm happy to introduce ethnic cuisine to my family when it's of good quality from Greek Aloha Kitchen! We shall return!

So, it is a difficult establishment to find and park but it was worth it. Situated on the corner of N. Vineyard St. and Liliha St: firstly, it is in a busy area and, secondly, parking is in the back of the stores on the bottom. I believe there are apartments on the second floor...not sure. Parking is on an incline on a not well-paved asphalt surface. I ordered by texting GreekAloha to 33733 - to get a link to ChowDown, for online ordering. Requested 3.15p pick up earlier this morning and got there a bit early. Received it about the time that I requested. Pork Belly Gyro with tzatziki sauce was excellent. Crisp fries, onions, and tomato rolled up in a flat bread with pieces of pork. $12 and it was quite filling. For dessert...yes, the gyro was filling but I always have room for dessert. Bougatsa got me a new fave dessert. Phyllo dough filled with a vanilla custard and dusted with powdered sugar. To die for. And now...I was very full. $8 for a large portion. Excellent service. Unfortunately, Greek Aloha Kitchen is only open on Fridays and Saturdays; from 1100 to 1530.

Can't get enough of this delicious Bougatsa, at the Greek Aloha Kitchen !

Ohhh no I deleted my notes on Greek Aloha Kitchen thinking I had already written my review...or subconsciously not wanting to share how good this place is. We don't need it to get more crowded. Heheh. Thank you Leona and Lori for putting this place on the map for me and for telling me about all the goodness here. Then reading the STELLAR Yelp reviews from Rod, Lyla, Nat and others really committed my want to try this takeout only eatery. I promptly found them on IG and reached out to them to find out more. Then saw the phone number and texted am inquiry. Owner Stella was so very gracious and patient and kind in all her responses. The food is so delicious, giving me the feeling I am eating my favorite Greek aunt's cooking, if I had a Greek aunt. Nothing fancy...Comfort food at its best. Portions are generous.. prices are more than fair. Ordering is easy by text @ #808-342-5741 or online order (see qr code in picture) by texting "Greek Aloha" to 33733. I have since returned almost every week. Greek Aloha Kitchen is definitely in my regular rotation of takeout. Have tried the tripleta, mousaka, pastitsio, briam, gyros, spanakopita, baklava, bougatsa, trigona. Havent found anything not delicious still my favorites being the mousaka and bougatsa. There will always be a pistachio creme horn in my takeout bag, when they have it! Located in the two story building on the corner of Vineyard and Liliha Street (kitty corner to Liliha Square). Parking lot is accessed on Liliha Street. Right now open only on Friday and Saturday. Perhaps we can convince them to open another day or two of the week?!! They have more than enough aloha to share with all!

Note: This is a composite review based on three visits and has been updated on 09.05.2021. Ahhh 2021; poker in the Bahamas, springtime in Japan and Taiwan, Vegas and the WSOP in the sweltering summer, and a European vacation to Greece in the fall. *POOF* A research fueled craving for authentic Greek street food that needs to be satisfied NOW! Greek Aloha Kitchen to the rescue. And wow, just wow, street food heaven. Oily, fatty, flavorful! First, the gyro (actually a souvlaki being grilled chunks of protein versus shaved thin slices of proteins stuff in a warm, fluffy pita w/ onions, tomato, thick Greek yogurt based tzatziki and a handful of fries for good measure). Pork belly, chicken, either way, very good. Beautiful caramelization, juicy and tender, hints of oregano, very aggressively seasoned (almost too salty if eaten alone). Together with the other ingredients, one solid handful of messy goodness. The spanakopita, very good. Stuffed with loads of perfectly cooked, squeezed spinach dotted with tangy fetta in a crisp, buttery filo. Hints of mint add vibrancy. A hand held pocket of deliciousness. The mousaka with a base of thick sliced potatoes, sweet zucchini and eggplant topped with ground beef seasoned in a well flavored tomato paste, a layer of thinly sliced potatoes crowned by a thick, rich, highly reduced, caramelized béchamel sauce that pulls off the texture of fluffy ricotta cheese. Hearty good eats. The pastitsio, equally good. A base of noodles that has absorbed the beef and tomato juices of the layer sat above. Another perfectly executed béchamel layer atop adds fluffy, rich, creaminess. Again, extremely comforting. Huge portions. Reasonable prices. Very friendly personable service. Pour some tumblers of simple Greek wine, enjoy the food and the breeze, life is good.

Kali Orexi!! In early July, while waiting for my husband in the lobby of one of his physician's offices, I picked up the recent issue of HONOLULU Magazine, where I found an article that profiled the Greek Aloha Kitchen. This Greek Kitchen was located in the Papakōlea neighborhood on Mt. Tantalus. I kept this business in the back of my mind when in late July, a Yelp friend (Jonelle R) wrote a review that further whetted my appetite. According to the Yelp reviews and HONOLULU Magazine, this business was located in the Papakōlea Community Center, so I looked for them before we left on vacation to Las Vegas during the last week of July. I have to say, thanks to Google Map, I was able to locate the community center quickly but, because I went looking on a Thursday to scope them out in advance of their limited hours on Fridays and Saturdays, I came away empty-handed. Well, since returning from our mini-vacation, we've been playing non-stop tourist guides to visiting relatives while celebrating my birth MONTH until just this past weekend. We finally made time to check out the Greek Aloha Kitchen. As luck would have it, I found that this business had moved to the Liliha neighborhood across from one of our favorite Chinese restaurants, Moon Garden. So, I urged my husband to drive over to take out lunch since this location does not support dine-in. We weren't sure whether there was a parking lot to the new address (517 N. Vineyard Blvd), so we parked across the street and strolled over. Upon approaching the doorway on N Vineyard Blvd, a woman met us at the door and instructed us to go around the building to place or pick up our order. When we walked around to the back of the building, the driveway opened to a parking lot with ten full-size stalls. People were waiting for their orders in their cars, and some people were standing at the open door next to the bright blue menu board. There were two others ahead of us, so we waited our turn to place our order and were met by an amiable and energetic woman inside the kitchen. We were excited to try the authentic Greek flavors that would send our taste buds back to our visits to Greece and two of its gorgeous islands, Santorini and Mykonos. FOOD: - Traditional Greek Gyros: Athena-style pita filled with choice of marinated pork or chicken, fries, tomatoes, onions with creamy tzatziki sauce. I chose the marinated chicken, which was seasoned well and juicy. The gyros were tightly wrapped in paper resembling a cone. I could tell that it was packed with yummy flavors and the aromas from that gyros were mouthwatering. The fries and vegetables within this gyros reminded me of a sandwich I overate at Pittsburgh's Primanti Bros. The flavor-packed gyros was a weighty wrist-bender. $12 - Mount Olympus: The filling of melted mozzarella, grilled Greek seasoned pork, fries, tomatoes, onions and creamy tzatziki sauce was sandwiched between two 8-inch pitas. If you thought the traditional gyros was filling, multiply it by two and you have a gut-busting taste sensation. My husband polished off the Mount Olympus even though he said he wasn't hungry but it was so tasty that he couldn't set it back onto the plate. $15 - Bougatsa: This dessert is the Greek version of custard pie. Its semolina egg custard is encased in buttery, flaky and golden brown phyllo/filo then dusted with powdered sugar and cinnamon. The bougatsa was served warm and its custard was still a bit jiggly soft. I liked the vanilla-bean flavor that enhanced the egg custard. We were so full and content from Greek Aloha Kitchen's authentic flavors and textures that the meals put us into food coma. Our plan is to pre-order their Pastitsio and Mousaka by Wednesday for pick-up on either Friday or Saturday. We're glad there's another Greek take out joint in town!

Greek Style Chicken Gyros Spanakopita plate
    Tara L.

Finally made it down to try this place Pro tip: call/place your order ahead of time or go early because they sell out of some stuff super quick! Got the chicken gyro athena style because im not ready to stray from my tzaziki and venture into mustard and ketchup. Tons of well marinated chicken. So much flavor. And its a huge wrap! So heavy. It will def fill you up Also got the spanakopita plate. Salad was very refreshing and loved how big the chunk of feta was. Filo on the spanakopita was thicker so it made a really sturdy crust to hold all that spinach and feta in. So good. I would def come back. And order earlier so i can get the desserts before they run out Staff was super polite and friendly too. Very nice people!

$15 double chicken gyro! Fries and tzatziki on the side
    Shayna R.

We haven't been able to go to the Greek festival for a couple of years - but lucky for us, this place is available to make any Saturday feel like a Greek fest! We chose the $10 moussaka and $15 double chicken gyro and both were fantastic! The moussaka was huge, super creamy topping bechamel sauce (my fave part) on top of ground beef and eggplant and large slices of potato. It was rich, yet not heavy, and such a mix of perfect flavors that I couldn't stop eating it. The gyro was also really yummy, and they were super accommodating by separating the tzatziki sauce and fries so that they remained crisp and the gyro (2 yummy large pitas!) stayed intact until we could enjoy it. Another bonus - the online site offered a $5 discount for spending $20+! The minus is that I don't think they started the order until we arrived, about 30 minutes after placing the order. But we'll still be back!

    Athenian Gyro
    Myra G.

Yummy! I had the Athenian Gyro! It had fries in it, which was different. It was delicious. I didn't get a chance to try their desserts. Their desserts change so call ahead to find out what they have. I didn't get dessert this time since I was by myself and wouldn't be able to eat it all. The servings sounds like a lot when I asked about the desserts. I want to come back so I can try the desserts too. There's parking behind the building so when you go there don't worry about the parking.

Opa! This was all Greek to me! Driving to Papokolea to get Greek takeout was definitely a new experience. But it was all worth it. Their food is delicious. Whenever I go to a new place I have a hard time deciding what to order, so I go overboard. This day was no different. The Mousaka ($10) is a stand out. It's creamy and flavorful and full of ground beef along with potatoes, zucchini, and eggplant. Filling and satisfying. The Tripleta ($15) is perfect for someone who wants a little of everything with three skewers of chicken, pork, and bacon wrapped chicken (say what??). Each souvlaki is perfectly cooked, not dry! It comes with both tzatziki and mustard sauce. So much variety on one plate. Nice! The pork Gyros ($12) had a generous amount of crispy marinated pork. The fries in it were pretty good too! Next time, I want to try the vegetarian Gyros which comes with a yogurt lime sauce, instead of the traditional tzatziki sauce. Today I was lucky to try the Karidopita ($8). OMG, it was perfection - a moist walnut cake flavored with oranges, cinnamon and cloves, soaked in syrup! I need the whole cake! They will be moving to a new location. I will definitely be looking for them in Liliha. It won't be as unique of an experience though!

Super limited hours but nice break from cleaning house to go pick up lunch. Papakolea at the park but the lot is super small and there was a other function going on so was crowded. I double parked behind this aunty so just let her know and then I ran down. Had ordered Tripleta & Baklava for the hubs. And I ordered Moussaka on special. They were so nice...just like being in Greece. Choke busy but pre-ordering is key. Got my food fast and so ran upstairs and right at my car...SPLAT. MOUSSAKA DOWN. I scooped it up to dump. Got a little on my finger and decided not my fave. Too nutmegy or something for my taste. Still woulda been nice to really try it cuz I am basing it on 1 lil taste. Hubs went diving and got his own food so at least I got to eat it. Everything super tasty, borderline too salty. Bacon wrapped chicken was my fave, then pork. Everything cooked perfectly and meat nice and soft. Came with 1 pita. Coulda used 1 more for all the meat there is or maybe a small salad. Just had tomatos and onions. Curry mayo kinda sauce was really yummy. Tzatziki was good...mild flavor balanced the salty meats. I'd go again but better to just park on Tantalus so I no need worry bout blocking anyone. Still so mad at myself.

    Mike N.

I read about Greek Aloha kitchen in an online article. It took me several weeks to get there, as they are only open Friday and Saturday, for very limited hours. There is almost no parking, as they are located in a park, and share the 8 or so stalls with people using the facilities. The plates don't look large in the pictures, but they are quite filling. The pita bread is delicious, and everything was very flavorful. It's a little expensive, for something so out of the way; but I would go back.

Looking over the menu, I noticed they had a few Greek wines so I asked Ava about one interesting one that had hints of fig and tobacco. She immediately poured me a sample to taste and it was delicious so I got a glass. My meal came and it too was really outstanding. Every bite was delicious. To add to my experience, Ava put the Bob Ross channel on the TV above the bar so I got my art experience too. Later, the chef came out and talked to me for a while about travelling to Greece to really study the cuisine. He was clearly continuing to immerse himself in the culture to further perfect his already highly skilled craft. I would highly recommend Opa. What a wonderful total experience.

We first tried this place 2 yrs ago- it was good food. When I walked in I kept asking for a menu. I…read moreasked the bartender- a guy - another girl -- nothing. Then I reasked the bar tender and she was too busy - asked a girl again - never came back. Finally a customer grabbed one and handed it to me . We tried it yesterday- absolutely awful - sorry but -- the meat was super fatty - couldn't chew it - show it to my GREEK friend from Astoria Queens cause she couldn't understand- she agreed- way too fatty -- We dumped it - couldn't chew it. We also ordered spanakopita. We opened it up tonight -- Triangle shaped individual with JUST spinach -- the feta cheese was spread out UNDER these triangle spinach thing (4) super tiny like appetizers- not a meal - no salad either like really? This was a dinner? so very very upset over this food. You will say to me it's was Mothers Day - 9 tables isn't very busy for Mother's Day -- a regular dinner crowd. We expected when we drive 1 hr to this restaurant get great food at a place that almost has 5 stars. I can understand we aren't in Astoria Queens NY but come on - this wasn't hard at all. I waited a whole year to drive back & I really wanted to give a great review but the food was just awful. Very are very disappointed . . .
