My wife and I stopped in for "linner" (too late to be called lunch, but early for dinner) on the way home from a visit to Lost River Caverns this afternoon. We both ordered similar meals from the Sunday specials. Italian Wedding soup for her, cream of turkey for me. Both were excellent, served piping hot, and a bowl-sized portion you wouldn't expect for an included soup. Salads were ordinary, but fresh. Rolls were served seriously hot from the oven. We both had chicken pot pie. It was really more like a stew--no crust top or bottom, but very generously portioned, tender white meat chicken, rich gravy, with lots of carrots and peas, and strangely, bowtie pasta. I wouldn't call it pot pie, but it was delicious. We both brought home about half the serving. It was topped off with the dessert of the day, a thin, but adequate, slice of chocolate mousse cake. Props also, go to Mary, our server who was pleasant and efficient, and made sure our courses were properly timed. Going in, we didn't necessarily have high expectations, but were very pleasantly surprised. read more

Our Sunday breakfast spot. Always good service. The food is good and inexpensive. I have never had a bad meal but we have only eaten breakfast. For you coffee snobs they serve Lacas Coffee. Far better than the $6.00 you will pay at Starbucks. They have seating indoors and outside and practice social distancing both indoors and outside They take extra precautions to ensure everything is sanitized due to the COVID outbreak. We need to support our local businesses. If you can go to the grocery store then you can come here. They probably do a better job sanitizing than a grocery store. read more

I live here in Hellertown. I have tolerated the Hellertown Diner. First they call themselves a "diner." The usual connotation of "diner" means one can get any food at anytime. One can't get this at the Hellertown Diner like one can at Perkins or similar.Then, front seats just behind the register are an echo chamber due to the place being a Burger King years ago. I can't believe neither owners of the diner did a thing to upgrade this echo chamber and/or remove "diner" from the name or serve any meal at anytime. The food is your typical Sysco food service fare. Their milkshakes and bagel sandwiches are their better items. Wraps and burger are ok. Drive through service is ok but not super fast when you already phoned in your order. read more

Didn't realize that the Diner changed ownership. Service was slow, we were the only people in there. Ordered food took forever to get food. It was around 4pm thought it was funny no one there.Both of us ordered breakfast meals. Ordered a Spanish omelets, when it came out it was a Spinach omelets asked about it waiter tried to tell me it was. He went to manager she said didn't have ingredients to make. I doubt it even had 3 eggs. No one said they were sorry about it. I felt nauseous later in evening . All help looked under 21 very young should have known to turn around and leave. No doubt this place has excellent soup... so good that I sometimes have two-soup dinners, chicken noodle is always there and always great- you can taste the fresh chicken broth! If you come across Italian wedding or pepper pot they are even better. I also love the navy bean soup- thick & hearthy. They are all home made and low salt- the owner once said: "if you want more salt, it's on the table". This is one of my favorite Diner to go to.. I have never had bad service and I have never had bad food. I had the beef orzo soup which was delicious, I had spaghetti and meatballs which was delicious as well, rice pudding exceptional. I could go on and on and my guy said I have never had anything to complain about. Thank you Hellertown Diner and I hope you are in business for a long time to come. Breakfast is their strong suit. Pretty yummy hot chocolate too. That being said, adequate speed of service, friendly enough wait staff, and pretty good breakfast menu. The food is usually hot, and I've never had to send anything back. Coffee could be stronger, usually has an acidic taste I find common in diner coffee. read more

Very hit or miss. I've had good and bad experiences here. Sometimes the food is pretty alright and others its downright inedible. The one morning I came here and ordered breakfast and my scrambled eggs arrived runny and under cooked. This is one of the better "typical" diners I've been to. It's not a gastro diner or gourmet diner. I've had several good breakfasts here. The home fries are always fresh off the flat top and crispy. Eggs are cooked fresh, as well as other typical breakfast fare (pancakes, french toast, omelets, etc.). What Hellertown Diner does better than others is that the food does not seem to be mass produced in the kitchen and then slopped on a plate. It's actually fresh, hot, and tasty. The service is friendly, the place is really clean, bright and airy. It's our favorite local diner to go to. Good pricing, and good variety. read more

This has been the worst diner I've ever to! The hospitality is it -5 stars, from the moment you walk in the door they have an attitude! There's a 20 minute wait To be seated at the excuse they give you is that the cook has to catch up so they will allow you to stand to wait while tables are empty instead of sitting down and giving you a beverage and asking you to be patient. Once I was seated another weight I have 20 minutes to get a glass of water and a cup of coffee. The excuse was the waitress is serving a party of 9 the people. When the coffee arrive was served by a hostess a white top dirty and stains. held a tray over My 11th month old niece head with hot coffee and the baby's mother asked the hostess please don't serve the coffee over my daughter head. The woman replied she replied she raised seven children. What does that have to do with The mothers request accidents do happen and scorching hot coffee should not be held over 11 month old baby head. we were looking to ensure the safety of the child. The hostess became belligerent indignant rude and obnoxious that we walked out. No one cares how many children she raise that wasn't the problem nor the question. When someone asks you please do not hold scorching hot coffee over my babies head you tend to apologize and step away from the baby it's not a power struggle nor an argument. We left out will never be b back again! Common sense is just not common with people who are ignorant! read more

I was quite surprised the food was good considering this is a diner. Seafood soup was good, french fries are 10 out of 10 (you know what I mean as you see many restaurants trying to save a buck with cheap fries) and Mac and cheese was slightly above average. A little on the bland side for Mac and cheese however it was home made which was more than I expected from diner. I would recommend cook puts sharper cheese to get a better rating (5.5 out of 10 for this dish). Service was good and pleasant atmosphere. Hellertown Diner is your typical local diner. Due to it being the only one in the area, it tends to get mobbed with elderly patrons. Even during breakfast peak time I've always gotten a booth. Staff is efficient and friendly. Taking orders, receiving drinks and serving of food is average depending on how many tables the waitress will have. I've only ever eaten breakfast and I normally will eat their spinach/cheese/tomato omelette. It comes with home fries and I normally get a side of bacon. The omelette is HUGE. I can never finish it all, but it's cooked perfectly with just the right amount of cheese/spinach/tomatoes. The home fries are soft with a crispy top, just how I like them. My only gripe is about the bacon. I like it right to the point of being burned and it's never cooked enough to my liking. But bacon is bacon and I don't turn it away! If you are looking for a typical diner meal. I'd recommend here. read more

I have visited the diner a few times and had enjoyed it. I told my Daughter, Son-in-law and 4 granddaughters we were going to a restaurant we thought they would like. First, I ordered the stuffed shells and meatball senior platter for $13.99, I was very disappointed, there were 2 small stuffed shells and 1 small meatball, should have priced at $7.99. Two of my granddaughters ordered sandwiches which came with chips, coleslaw and a pickle. My daughter asked if they could get FF's and the waitress said ok. The sandwiches came out, no Chips, coleslaw or pickle, we just thought they substituted for the fries. The bill came and both sandwich meals had a $3.00 fee for fries. The waitress never said the fries were an up charge, but also there was no chips, coleslaw or pickle. The waitress just beat around the bush about why she didn't say anything. You know when a place cant even spend the extra money for a name brand ketchup they are buying the cheapest ingredients possible unfortunately like a lot of diners in our area. This is a bare bones diner. It's Extra for a muffin on an egg sandwich. Also, their prices are higher than most other diners also. Came in for Sunday Brunch, we've been here twice before over the last year, but probably won't go back. We ordered a diet coke and a water, got a diet coke and an ice tea. Then we ordered a Turkey Club, Bowl of Chili, stack of pancakes, and a greek omlete (with spinach substituted for the onions). The Turkey club was good. The chili had no broth, more like ground beef and beans; would be better suited for chili dogs. The pancakes looked great, nice and golden, but they were super dry, crumbly, and had a tendency for the top and bottom to separate. Two syrup packets came with it, and only lasted half way through. The omelet arrived with onions and no spinach. We were almost done eating everything else when they finally brought out the correct omelet. The bill charged extra for the spinach. The entire meal felt awkward and un-welcomed.I could deal with that if the food was fantastic, but its mediocre at best. We would have been better off going to the Giant - Starbucks or McDonald's, and paid a lot less. read more

Stopped here on the way home from WindCreek Casino and was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the Greek wrap. The chicken was grilled nicely with feta, olives, lettuce and tomato. Included were delicious crispy fries, coleslaw and pickles. It was flavorful and great value for your $. My husband had Chicken Heller chicken, artichokes mushrooms in a lemon butter sauce. No idea what the earlier reviewer is talking about (the Blue Sky Cafe is only in business because there's no other decent "diner" in the area, despite their abysmal service). The Hellertown Diner is your standard local diner. The only thing exceptional about their breakfasts is that unlike many other places, their homefries are perfectly crisp each and every time. Their burgers are actually pretty outstanding and actually quite large. I go here for burgers instead of any other sit-down burger place. It's actually cheaper than Red Robins... The cakes they serve are also fantastic but expensive. They are supposedly imported from some famous bakery I never heard of but who cares they have a great Snickers cake. It's also convenient to the rimfire range where I am a member. read more

One of the best diners around. The service was great, our server was really nice and friendly as was the hostess. The food is okay, but our waitress, Emily was THE worst. One of the worst I've ever experienced. When my mom asked how much it was to add cheese, she huffed and said I don't know what all the prices are on the menu. She didn't come back over for 5 minutes with water, and my sister wanted coffee so she waved down the first person she saw, who happened to be a busboy. Out of nowhere, the waitress appears, shoos him away and says don't listen to them, and then tells us he doesn't speak English, don't talk to him. When we were giving her our order, I felt like she was rushing us through it so fast so she could dash off, and it wasn't even that busy in there. I'm a server, so I know how it is when it's busy, but it wasn't. Even still, her rudeness was amazing, just in her tone and demeanor. We asked to speak to a manger about our omelet, and he was just as rude. To me, the people who work there make the place. If the food was amazing, I would never come back. read more

We LOVE the Hellertown Diner! We have never had a bad meal there ever and the food is great and the people who work there are always pleasant. A couple of our favorites....the club sandwiches are big and very good...their soups are awesome from the homemade vegetable soup to my favorite, the cream of turkey....their lasagne is fantastic and rivals most Italian restaurants easily (it's my favorite meal there and there is no better diner lasagne in the entire area).....and ANYTHING breakfast is really good, especially their buttermilk pancakes which our kids love. The prices are reasonable as well which is the icing on the cake. Hellertown Diner has become our favorite spot to eat in the entire area and if it were closer I would eat there more often! Hate to give away our 'secret spot' but I couldn't recommend it any higher. read more

After reading Sharon's venomous review I felt obligated to respond. Where do I start? First, every time I went to the Hellertown Diner, I never saw the wait staff acting rudely. However, I did hear patrons being obnoxiously loud. Second, your original review contained the name of the person who you thought mistreated you. The description you provided is completely different from that of the named person. It would have been nice if you verified the facts before spewing your venom. Because of this blunder, a very good hostess and person was fired. I do hope you are proud of yourself. Third, Let us look at the statement that your food was usually served cold and the coffee tasted like warm dirt. If that was the case, you would have written a negative long before this. (By the way, what does warm dirt taste like?) Additionally, I am sure it would have been negative, not full of exaggerated venom. Fourth, I really take exception being called "a person who never left Hellertown". I do not live in Hellertown. Further, in my seventy-one years I have traveled enough to discern a place that has good food for a decent price. Fifth, I must admit I go there to have a good laugh. The diner has declined greatly over the years. While the portions are huge they are as tasteless as they are large. The waitresses act bored, disinterested, and are slow. Husband and I waited nearly an hour for a chicken salad club and a chef salad. The owner does not make the atmosphere very welcoming, usually sitting at a table or the counter barking at his employees.
