The last two times I ordered from here, I got a free (large) fried chicken drumstick! Highly recommend the popcorn chicken. A little on the pricey side compared to what I'm used to: Southern California prices, where popcorn chicken is available everywhere. My partner and I arrived here on a Tuesday afternoon and you can order at the counter or via kiosk. We ordered at the counter and it went well, the shop was quiet with lots of room for sitting. We ordered the taro pudding and cheese caramel milk tea. I forgot to add boba to the drink, but we got it at 80% sweetness which was perfect. The drink was delicious, it had gritty cheese bits in it and you could taste the genuine tea in it. The taro pudding was rich and creamy. I've been to hello Jasmine multiple times in the past. You can order online, through the phone, and in person at their kiosk machines. I get their brown sugar boba milk tea and their tea is really good. I try to get it less sweet considered it is brown sugar. We both got brown sugar boba tea and whenever I get drinks, it's sometimes sticky but that's okay. Their service isn't terrible and I know they're packed on orders consistently. It was perfect, and the tapioca was just how I like it (minimal chewing needed because it's sliiiightly overcooked). Was confused whether we had to select boba as a topping even though it already said the word boba in the drink name. The inside was cute and small. They seem very busy doing multiple drinks. When I got in where I didnt now that there was a machine to order without waiting for the cashier. That was cool. Drinks: First drink I got was the strawberry milk cloud, that was good , however it was super sweet even after mixing the strawberry syrup. I wasnt really fond of it. I wish it was less sweet. Second drink: the mango fruit tea was good. It taste like mango and my niece love it. Third drink was the peach mango smoothie, now that one was good. I would recommend this one for a hot day. The mango didnt overpowered the peach nor did the peach. It was a good drink in between. Fourth drink: my friend got the taro drink and it wasnt as good as we thought it would be. The place is constantly busy and has a very cute interior- perfect for pictures I ordered one of their new drinks- the dragonfruit green tea with lychee jelly- it was fresh and the combination of dragonfruit pieces and lychee really added to the textures of the tea. It was pretty pricey though, compared to other bubble tea places ($8) I was disappointed with the lack of vegan/vegetarian options. I recently stopped by the other day they have two locations one in Chinatown & the other in Lincoln Park. First and foremost I was happy to see the staff were following Covid guidelines and all staff were wearing mask. The customer service was above and beyond. This is your classic bento joint and a fantastic choice for take out bento boxes. We had a large group order through DoorDash for a variety of bento boxes and some boba milk tea as well. The bento boxes were solid - a good amount of meat with a variety of side dishes. The boba milk tea.... let's just say the boba was solid, which, in contrast to the above, is not a good thing. Braised Pork Over Rice (4/5): Excellent braised pork over rice - sauce tastes great w/ the pickled cabbage & tea egg. Generous portion size. Sometimes the pork can be a bit too fatty, which is what keeps me from giving it 5 stars. High Mountain Milk Tea w/ Herbal Jelly (4/5): I like it with 0 ice, 30% sugar and herbal jelly instead of boba - a little less sweet but you can get more of the tea flavor (I like that they have different kinds of tea that you can choose from). Food so good, on our 3 day stay in Chinatown, Chicago- we came here twice. There are a few different ways to order, pickup or delivery directly off their Yelp page is the most convenient! Our hotel was about .5 miles away, and we ordered on the Yelp app from our hotel room and by the time we walked over- our food was ready! They also have kiosks that you can scroll through the menu and order + pay at. There are tons of customization options like spice level for food, sweetness levels on their boba drinks, and add-ons that is easy to sort through on their digital menus! The food here is uniquely Taiwanese with a mix of flavors and textures that feels familiar to home cooking across a wide range of asian cuisines. The pork in the bentos here compares to the Filipino pork adobo, or kai pa lo from Thailand. Melt-in-our-mouth tenderness that only time braising in umami broth can do. The bentos come with rice, Taiwanese kimchee steamed bok choy, fried tofu, and a tea egg. The acid from the vinegar in the Taiwanese kimchee brought a brightness and crunch, the steamed bokchoy brought an earthiness that grounded the dish... and there's just something about tea eggs that gets me in my feels. Taiwanese cold noodle with chicken steak is an example of food that I've never had before yet it tastes like my childhood. It's a cold rice noodle + pickled carrots and cucumber with a creamy sesame sauce on the side. I ordered it spicy, so the fried chicken cutlet had a good dash of spicy pepper seasoning on top. Got delivery from here and it was exactly what I wanted. I got the cold noodles (perfectly cooked noodles, thinly sliced and chopped cucumber and carrots served with a nice creamy peanut sauce on the side, i combined that sauce and the sweet and sour.. amazing), got the beef wontons, they were ok, they didn't travel too well but once heated up were good. I placed a take-out order and I was sure where to grab my order. The app said my order was not ready but I went up to the cashier and asked for my order which I was ready. Although far from my home, my friend and I drive a long distance to hit Hello Jasmine as well as a dumpling place in Chinatown - totally worth!! The fruit tea drinks here are so refreshing and delicious. I got a peach green tea with 50% reduced sugar, and it wasn't overly sweet but carried the full taste. They also have soo many food options that we enjoy, like their popcorn chicken and Taiwanese noodles. The drinks were in fact so good that we stopped by again before leaving Chicago to take some to go. Lots of precautions are being taken because of coronavirus. You're obviously required to wear a mask to go inside, and you enter directly onto a kiosk instead of to a person at the register. Make sure to bring your own hand sanitizer as they didn't have any nearby. If there is a long queue ahead of you (there definitely was when we were there), they will text you when your order is ready after 10-15 minutes. Hello Jasmine is now my favorite bubble tea spot in Chicago for a few reasons, namely: - The tapioca: consistently the perfect chewiness and sweetness. Nuff said. - The tea: stronger than a lot of your typical boba shops but not too strong. Get that powder bubble tea out of here - you can taste the realness. I also appreciate that they have a couple less common teas - I can highly recommend the tieguanyin tea if you're into oolong. The high mountain milk tea is nice as well. As for food, the fried chicken here is top-notch. And I'm talking ALL the fried chicken dishes...popcorn chicken, fried chicken steak, grilled chicken steak (I include this one because even though it's called "grilled," I'm pretty sure it's still fried because I refuse to believe a grilled chicken can taste that good). The seasoning (similar to seasoning I find on all the Taiwanese fried chicken dishes I've had) is insanely addicting. Plus you can choose how spicy you want it (I always max it out - not that spicy). I love braised pork rice, and this place does it pretty well! The to-go packaging is great (I love how everything is separated), and their milk tea is very authentic and yummy too. My only complaint is that their tea egg didn't have much flavor, and they added a slightly weird seasoning to the top that I wish they hadn't. Overall, solid place and I would order again for sure. There is not much sitting place and so we stood to get our drinks and left. I think you get 16 ounces of drink for $5.75. They have about 20 or so snack and small dishes of food you can order for a quick bite as well. There is a kiosk if you want to order on your own for quicker service. I woUld suggest to give them a try. I am alway generous and in flavor of a restaurant in my reviews. Brown sugar milk tea: The drink is not only aesthetically pleasing, but it also taste very delicious! I appreciate how the drinks are served in one perfect size. The combination of the milk tea and boba doesn't taste too sweet together. Signature fruit tea: I don't normally opt for the fruit tea at boba places but their signature fruit tea is 10/10!! The boba here is just okay. I think the boba texture is a tiny bit overcooked. But the food here is great! We got two of the bentos and they reminded me of home so much. With the pork/chicken cutlet over rice and veggie sides. Everything was delicious. The tofu was also great - I liked that they came with the taiwanese kimchi. What impressed me the most is the cold sesame noodles. I have been searching for a good replica of this dish in the US and this is probably the closest that I've tasted here to the real thing. The sauce is pretty legitimate. The first time I ordered the noodles it was a little underdone but the second time was right on point. I've also tried the corn - which, unfortunately, I would skip. Have come to this location a few times. The bubble tea and food are delicious. The only reason one star is being subtracted is because of the service quality. Orders generally take a pretty long time. One member of our group ordered popcorn chicken and a drink and we were waiting so long (40 minutes?) that the chicken (which was made first), became soggy. We had checked up to see if the order was ready every 10 minutes or so just in case the order was lost. No refund was offered by the manager when we did not want the chicken anymore and stated they could not do anything about it. I almost always get the jasmine green milk tea (alternating with the high mountain oolong tea). Their teas have a strong flavor and you can customize the amount of sugar/ice. Their food is also decent and they have many street food items on the menu. Hubby and I like to share the popcorn chicken. The grilled tofu and fried fish tofu is just okay from what I remember. The special braised pork rice bento is great (braised pork, bok choy, sausage slices, soy sauce egg, pickled mustard greens). If you watched YouTube you might think they are still located in the underground food court in Chinatown but that is not true. They have moved a few blocks away but still close enough to walk to. We parked in the public parking lot and walked there to grab some boba drinks and you can't forget the popcorn chicken!
