WOW! This was such an amazing experience. Super simple ingredients but they let the quality shine through. We came here on a weekday evening and we got a seat right away. They give you a towel to wipe your hands. Really reminds me of Japan. You can then order directly on the menu and they start making the rolls in front of you. We went for a set of 5 rolls and added an order of the oshi sushi each (3 per order). The standouts were the toro, the scallops and the truffle lobster. Oshi sushi were also one of the best. Came here to grab some lunch and ordered 3 dishes. From start to finish the customer service was impeccable. The lovely lady took my order and she had such a great vibe to her. Upon arrival I wanted to try a dish that had uni on top of my current order and they whipped it up nicely for me! I've heard some amazing things about this place and due to well... the pandemic. Japan seems like only a wish at the moment till I came here. The decor was beautifully done in there, will definitely be coming back when the restaurants open for dine in! Lovely spot to grab a quick bite! The service here is top notch, one of the waitresses gave us clear explanations of everything on the menu and even went into detail with personal recommendations. She was extremely kind. Glad to have been able to dine in, as well as try their take-out menu on UberEats. I definitely recommend dining in, only because that crisp seaweed when you bite into their fresh hand rolls is the real game changer. The matcha green tea is also a refreshing accompaniment and I love how it's not sweetened. (For dine-in only as well.) Though, their take out menu is enjoyable too. One thing that I noticed is the quality of their sushi rice. They do it right and serve it similarly as they do in Japan. It's fresh, with the perfect temperature & consistency. This is such an amazing new spot in the Vancouver dining scene. They specialize in Japanese hand rolls. These are wrapped in a crispy seaweed outer with warm rice inside and amazing seafood options. I had the 5 hand roll combo: toro, yellow tail, scallops, crab and my favorite - truffle lobster! Situated on Robson, this restaurant has a cool vibe with an amazing wooden maze roof and bar seating. Each hand roll is made fresh and served as you finish the previous one. With my meal, I had this amazing white peach drink that is sure to please everyone who tries it. The place was busy when I got there but the staff were extremely friendly and attentive even though they had a full house to deal with. Hello Nori - My first hand roll experience - Japanese Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

The newest Japanese joint seems to be attracting a lot of attention. It's relatively small, I believe it seats about 24 people, all of which are bar seats (with plexiglass dividers for covid). Let's talk about the interior. Very modern look, and overall very attractive. Because it is relatively smaller than most places, it does fill up pretty fast and seems to have been very busy since opening. Although they have covid protocols in place, I can see why this would make someone uncomfortable because on the Wednesday night that I visited, I don't believe there was a head count regulation in place since it was a full bar + workers + people waiting for a seat (indoors because it was a little cooler outside). That being said, the hostess, waitresses as well as sushi chefs were all masked, which I do appreciate because I have heard a lot of chefs working behind the scenes, at other restaurants, are failing to adhere to these protocols. The menu was fairly small, consisting of a set menu (with a couple options) at the top, followed by individual pieces, then drinks at the bottom. I always appreciate a smaller menu because it usually means the restaurant knows exactly what they want to make and know exactly how it should be made. This was definitely reflected by the freshness and rice to filling proportions of each roll. I enjoyed every single roll on the 6pc set, with truffle lobster taking the lead on all 6. My guest and I also enjoyed the sake and although I'm not much of a sake fanatic, I'd have to argue that this was probably the smoothest sake I've had to date. It's also not too common to see sake served in a masu anymore so having it served this way definitely contributed to my preference for interactive meals. Their service was impeccable. From the hostess, to the waitress, to the sushi chef. Every single level showed attentiveness and made the overall experience very welcoming. Each roll is served after you are entirely finished your last which would mean the sushi chef would need to remember which set menu you ordered (if you ordered a set menu at all) and which roll you're at in that set menu, in order to serve you the next. I believe there was only one sushi chef working the night I dined in, which would require him to remember all 24 orders but to also keep an eye on each person to ensure the next roll is served just as the last roll is finished. This was the same for our drinks as well, which spoke to the attentiveness of the waitresses. Overall, I have no complaints, for a new joint, everything went surprisingly smooth, interior was clean & beautiful, ingredients were fresh, and service was top notch. PROTIP if you've gotten this far: this is definitely more experience focused (I did enjoy the experience more than the food) , so don't focus too much on getting the best picture because your seaweed will get soggy and the rolls won't be as enjoyable. Lovely interior and service was quick and efficient - upon being shown to your seats, you get to pick from a very streamlined menu including set options which we appreciated. There are plexiglass screens between diners but you're still sitting fairly close to each other along the bar so conversations between diners didn't feel as private. Now for the food: It was good, but not something we would go out of our way for. I did enjoy the truffle lobster handroll, which had a solid truffle fragrance and good texture. Prices were on steep side. Overall, this could be a good date spot if you wanted a fairly quick meal while having something to do (I.e watching the chef make the rolls on the spot). When we come we usually get the 6-hand roll (which is 32$ for Toro, Yellow Tail, Ora King salmon, Hokkaido Scallop, Crab, Truffle Lobster) Every. Bite. Makes me happy. I love how the seaweed is still crunchy when you get the rolls because they're individually made. The flavour of the seafood is also yummy- they keep it somewhat simple with the seasonings, what with what I believe is just sesame oil being mixed in with the fish. Wouldn't mind tasting just the fish though. At first was a bit intimidated at how attentive/personalized the workers were; sort of felt like they were intensely staring at my every move, but it's nice in that it's not a pain to try and get their attention (for water refills for example). I'm quite a slow eater and they definitely do go a bit too quick for my liking, but I guess they're just trying to churn as many people in and out. We have also gotten the bluefin tuna and it was ok (could be a bit better IMO-tasted a little bit too fishy). Don't recommend getting the tamago either; was a bit lackluster in the flavour department. Quite happy with the fish to rice/seaweed ratio tho! read more

Hello Nori reminds me of spot back home! Very similar but definitely not the same! Customer service was great! Very attentive and was in a very good mood, definitely made me feel welcomed. Ambiance is pretty much everyone talking, I would recommend some low music in the background so everyone not trying to listen to everyone's conversation. Definitely up to code when it comes down to Covid protocols, they have plexiglass shields and you can tell they are very sanitary. So why the 4 stars you ask well for 1 not trying to knock anyone off but it seem like the chef was in a rush, I wasn't even done with the roll I had and i was already being hand the next one! 2nd the rolls are to small! The taste was there but compared to what I'm usually served it seemed like it was like half or even a quarter of the serving and lastly it was cold! I've been to a lot of different spots and mostly all of them are warm this was straight up cold, now that can be the way they make it so I'm not taking any points away and it was really good just my point of view. Finally a restaurant which specializes in hand rolls amongst all the Japanese restaurants that Vancouver has to offer. I've been hoping that a nori place would open up in Vancouver since trying Kazunori in Santa Monica (near LA). There is only bar seating and I loved the wooden architecture they had on their ceilings. The seating area was very open and the chefs would prepare all the rolls right in front of you. The sushi was delicious and didn't have too much rice. I also loved the unique concept of the sake in the box which was a delicious pairing with the hand rolls. I hope to have more hand roll restaurants open in Vancouver and hope there will be some healthy competition with Help Nori. Would recommend! read more

I called ahead to see if there is any high chair avalaible and they said yes but only to find out that they are bar chair not high chair for kids. The waiter said her English was not good. For the rolls, it ranges from $5-$7 for one piece of hand roll that is not very big. An average person may need to eat 5-6 rolls to feel a bit full. After having a few of the best handroll experiences this past summer in LA and Vegas, as soon as I saw this was a quick walk from my hotel I had to go! Some things I'll note: only very limited bar seating (from what I saw), plexiglass dividers between parties, very attentive and kind staff. You can choose a set series of rolls and/or add some one offs, however you can't go wrong with either one! Every single roll was delicious - warm sushi rice carefully wrapped with high quality fish/seafood inside it. I believe I had 6 or 7 hand rolls, thinking that wouldn't fill me up but it was incredibly satisfying. Not to mention they do have alcohol here, so a cold Sapporo helped top everything off. I ordered premium sushi set with Bogo spicy shrimp roll with avocado roll through Uber. The sushi came soooo fast(within 13mins lol) and the food was quiet fresh. I was afraid the weather like these(before rainy), raw fish might smell too fishy but just one piece (yellowtail) was fishy and everything else was good . They put generous amount of fish in roll, two of end piece had more rice but most of them was good. I thought the portion might be too small since on order is only 4pieces but a piece was quiet thick. The wasabi was fresh(not from the powder, but fresh) I love the presentation of the package, chopsticks were nice( I used mine since I like the pointy end chopstick). The soy-sauce plate was very convenient and sauce pour perfect amount on the dish it provided(). (I found they put sesame oil in rice, for sushi usually they put vinegary sauce, and it makes the roll more savoury flavour) Even though the sushi came really quick but the seaweed was just a bit chewy so I would visit there when I have a chance but all in all, food was good, I would order again when I crave simple, savoury sushi. Ohhhh myyyyy goddddd. I've never had sushi this FRESH before, and maybe that says a lot about me and my habit of buying sushi from the kind of places that drown everything in spicy mayo (I'm not ashamed), but the way the seaweed SNAPS when you bite into one of Hello Nori's uncut rolls is HEAVENLY. The menu is small and the rolls are pricey, but damn if they aren't worth it. These sushi chefs know what they're doing - and I don't know if I could recommend just one thing because it was all so incredible. The truffle lobster was a highlight, but I'm just a slut for truffle, and a lot of people HATE it, so your mileage may vary. Service-wise, it was alright! Not especially attentive, but special attention wasn't really necessary - you're all set around the sushi station/kitchen so there's always something to watch, whether it's someone making a roll, a customer enjoying a particular roll that you decide to get next, or one of the chefs torching some freshly-sliced wagyu. Dinner and a show, right?! I am sure that Vancouver has much more impressive sushi somewhere but this was absolutely the sushi highlight of my trip, even without the ocean of spicy mayo ;) read more

Great "upscale-casual" debut on the maligned Robson street with a beautiful space. Very focused menu on the rolled sushi concept. Seaweed is crisp and flaky, unlike other Temaki style cones that are often a bit flat and chewy. Variety of different seafood fillings ranging from salmon, lobster, scallop etc., all very fresh and of high caliber. Rice is served warm and fluffy. Limited drink selection, but there is a unique way of serving sake through a overpouring into a box. Excellent service and attention to detail from the staff. Pricing is generous considering the portions. Seating is serviceable although more suitable for a shorter stay. More space for coats and belongings would be welcome. You can order a set and/or a la carte. We both got the 6-roll combo, with a unagi roll on the side. You are served one roll at a time, allowing you to savour each roll without overwhelming your palette. Because there is one chef for about half the restaurant, you get some breaks in between each roll. This is great for chatting with your date/group. Now, onto the food. For what it is, we thought it was on pricier end. The unagi was definitely the most flavourful out of the bunch. I enjoyed the scallop and truffle lobster as well, but the others weren't as memorable. We got the peach drink (you can get it from Fujiya.) One of our favorite spots in Vancouver for straight-up tasty rolls. Make sure you dine in (takeout is good but limited menu.) I've never thought nori would be a reason why maki can be so good, but the speed from chef-to-bite keeps it crunchy and brittle, and it has a toasted taste to it.
