Of course it's even more intense in Japan where it feels like you're in a labyrinth and may never make it out. I always feel like I need to inspect everything closely so I won't miss anything that could change my life lol When I first visited this Bookoff 3 years ago, they didn't have ANY Japanese music. Japanese music is the entire reason I go to Bookoff (and a lifelong passion for me) so this physically hurt me. Japan has the second largest music industry in the world, and this is a Japanese store! I couldn't believe it, I even asked the staff at the time (who were very friendly and helpful, and they still are!) and they confirmed that they had nothing. I know Kpop has basically always been more popular globally but come on y'all. They do play both Jpop and Kpop in the store BGM. Anyway, I'm very happy to report that they have a small section now. It really could be larger considering, but I guess this is what they get sold to them. I didn't recognize a lot of artists in the records (the CDs were too high up for me to browse easily) which just means it's an opportunity for discovery. There's no way to try the records so I'll have to come back with Google and some headphones. I walked out with ひばり美空 & おニャン子クラブ records, lol. I saw 2 イルカ records but didn't bite. Many reviews complain about the pricing. My records were $9 each which is fair but I did notice some were $30-40. About the pricing, all I can say is that they're a specialty brick & mortar store in Socal so they need to survive. And the items sold here cannot be obtained anywhere else easily except for the internet, where you can guarantee many of them would be more expensive. For people like me, I would never complain about the prices no matter what - Bookoff is invaluable. But I get it if a book costs more used than new, that doesn't make sense. Either way, please support Bookoff in whatever way makes sense to you, or it will disappear. Please help ensure the survival of Bookoff!

I came in search of anime figures and I will say that the selection was VAST albeit very chaotic in…read moreits organization. Their manga selection was large and very well organized. They also have a large selection of Japanese manga too which I've not seen at other stores and was cool to see! We browsed their games and Pokemon cards as well. They had a lot of consoles and handhelds. They had a lot of dvds and blueray. Their regular book selection was extensive though I didn't look too much as it wasn't why I was there and my husband and kids were wanting to go get dinner. Overall while it was a very cool place, I feel like the pricing left a lot to be desired. Most of the manga I came across that I was interested in were priced very close to or at MSRP and the figures were disappointing bc every single one that I recognized and happened to know the going price on was significantly higher than it should be -- even super used ones that had no box were priced higher than you could get them for brand new! So even though I wanted to take the time to dig through the chaos and find a gem it made me hesitant bc i figured that even if I did find something I wanted, the odds were likely that it would be marked well over its value

Had them shipped to Iowa, Great price & they shipped them in a mighty mailer for extra protection and they arrived in great condition within a reasonable timeframe.. However incurred a minor issue at no fault to the store, inner sleeves were missing, this was a known issue from the record producer on this particular release, worked with Jules at Vinyl Junkies and she worked diligently with their supplier to make things right, took a bit but she got it done and shipped them right away free of charge and in perfect condition.. If you're looking for great service on your next vinyl purchase look no further, these guys and gals are great and they stand by what they sell.. They also have old cassette tapes, too, if you are a weirdo and a masochist. There are three rooms to explore and a little courtyard in between them all. I have to believe this space was a coffee house or something like that in a different life. The vinyl record collection is the emphasis, as it should be, and it is well-organized. There is some organization to some of the CDs but many of them are just stacked here and there. That is ok. If you are a musical dinosaur like some of us, some of the fun is in the hunt itself. The only drag is parking. Street parking is your only option and it is rough. The good news is there are some cool other shops in this area to explore, like books, beer, food, etc. Well worth a visit for music fans.

I made sure to wash my hands before visiting the shop, though. Inside, it's wall-to-ceiling packed with records, cds, posters, even VHS tapes, cassette tapes, and other music gifts such as stickers, pins, and t-shirts. The more valuable records, like most shops, are high on the walls over the bins. I thought some of the prices seemed higher than you'd see on Discogs, for example, but I'm sure high rent is a factor. There is such a thing as a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush, however. One trend, for better or worse, and this isn't just Cow I'm talking about, is that very few used records, especially original pressings (OGs), are available anymore. More often than not, reissued vinyl, sometimes from questionable providence (e.g. European labels that use cds as the mastering source because of lax copyright laws). Not to say that all reissues are bad because some are well mastered and pressed. Fortunately, more artists are having new albums released on vinyl, which is great except that the average release costs $25‐50 now. Anyhow, my rock and jazz collections are so vast that I only browse what's high on the wall nowadays, except for a few audiophile reissues by Blue Note records, especially their Tone Poet and Classic programs. Great store and vibe, support your independent record shops!
