Today, however, I had a negative experience with an employee who spoke to me rudely while I was checking the hay bags before buying them. This is something I've always done and have never had an issue with before. I don't know if he was offended by me feeling the hay bags or what before purchasing. After 20+ years of loyalty to Hemme, I'm not surprised that they don't want small farms as customers. I asked them to deliver 10 bales of alfalfa 8 miles from their location to my small farm. They refused. They only deliver 25 bales at a time, charge $60 for delivery, and our one dollar per bale more expensive than anybody else, who's bales way more than they do. But they seem to think that they're the only game in town, they're not. They're very accommodating, Robert is rude, and I'm done. read more

I used to buy ALL my feed from here. However, the quality of orchard grass has declined. Which, alone isn't a huge deal. However, when paired with the recent $3 price increase on chicken feed (now $16.99 for 50lbs) and the fact that employees don't wear masks, I'll be taking my business elsewhere. This place is AWEFUL. Horrible customer service and extremely rude employees!! We were referred to this place to buy literally 6 pallets. After purchasing them and waiting 15 mins in the parking lot for someone to come help us, they bring them out covered in Hay and one was so completely rotten/broken I refused to take it. The guy then told us oh well if you want pallets that's the best you're getting from here and literally walked away!!!! This place is a joke! After going in to speak with the lady in the front for a refund that further pissed me off. It was literally "what do you need?" And "ok here". Not let me find you one that isn't rotten and broken. Although it is a nice place and the people there are also cordial. The quality of their hay has drastically declined. I started with alfalfa A but the flakes seem to break apart very easy, and the flakes were hard to substantiate. I then changed to alfalfa B, which was even worse. I do not know if this the way it is this year so I am going to venture out and look at other places hoping that their hay is better read more

Keep giving this place chance after chance and I don't understand if it's the owners or the people working there. We get feed delivered by another feed store . Sometimes in between orders I'll have to buy a bale or 2 of orchard. I have NEVER I repeat I have NEVER received quality orchard from this place . Full of fox tales or moldy . Just picked up a bale and guess what it's moldy and old and brown. They have me back up in front of a Beautiful stack of orchard green and lush... then guy rolls out cart from the back already loaded with orchard shame on me for not checking on the spot .... I guess I have too be that person and ask to see it first since it's almost 30 bucks a bale....except I will not being going back to this location or the location that's even worse in Leona valley . You want quality from people that care about the community go to fox feed actin or Santa Clarita or van dams . (Maybe I would change my tune about the fact they don't care about small farms unless you order large amounts from them) but until I see otherwise this is the worst feed store in California as far as I'm concerned . Lanny son of owner randomly verbally threatening an injured customer horrible experience! an employee who feels because he claims he is the owners son that he can mistreat and threaten customers. He assists in loading products and randomly began verbally threatening customers with And trying to fight them. No customer who has already paid for their products should have to feel unsafe at a Feed store. This has been a terrible experience and highly unprofessional. I will not ever return to this feed store and you shouldn't either. He continuously attempted to verbally threaten, come close to customers and said they would hurt them. As a business owner my self I am beyond disappointed to have experienced this type of treatment. This place is a joke I shopped at this store because they could get MOB for me at a cheaper price then my local feed dealer and every time they give me at least one wrong item. I drive 2 hours to get here!!! And when I make a deal about checking tags they make fun of me and tell me it says something else! And when I tried to return an item the other day they wouldn't stay open 5 minutes (we called at 4:30 30 minutes before closing they claim we called at 5 but my call log said 4:30)for me to return it and get the proper item. Now today I go in there and he said he was only going to charge me for two bags since I was returning one just looked at my receipt and guess what he charged me for 3!!!! Da wife called a bunch of joints looking for food grade diatomascious earth for use with our Rhode Island Reds. This was the only place within driving distance that sold it in bulk. it was almost the same price for 40 lbs as it was for 5 lbs local. so off to the high desert we went. Being impressed by the sheer size, selection and of course the staff is an understatement. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Not only got the DE but left with sacks of oyster shell and layer pellets because the prices were great. My husband and I were looking for cheaper options to the expensive pet-store brands of guinea pig products when we found this gem. We get a fifty pound bag of guinea pig food with no weird additives for $20, an enormous bag of Timothy hay for $10, and a huge bag of wood shavings for $20. These last us for months and have really cut down on our spending! Plus our boys love the food and hay even more than the expensive store brands, and we've even noticed an improvement in their dental health. The owner is always friendly and helpful, as are the warehouse guys. Love this place! read more

I have been coming for over a year and have always found what I needed in stock. I originally only came for my pig food but we soon after purchased our 10 hens here. They were very helpful when it came to helping me get the right hens and how to properly care and feed them. All food and supplies I have purchased here have been fairly priced. We even purchased a medication for my pig when he got hurt...I didn't even know what I was looking for, but they knew exactly what I was looking for. read more

Small town hay and feed store. fair bulk hay selection but prices are a bit high. Dog and cat food supplies are good but a bit pricey as well and can't compete with the larger chain stores. Inventory on shelves is minimal and not kept current. If you need a certain halter size keep your fingers crossed as once it's out, it's out unless you bring it to Rob or someone's attention. They don't seem to keep much in inventory but I'm sure that's due to the owners desire to keep minimal $$ in inventory on the shelves. A pet gripe of mine is that much of the supply inventory in stock does not have prices on them. They don't seem very diligent and you have to ask or, worse yet, you get to the counter to purchase the item and yours doesn't have a price to Rob has to run back and get it. Rob is really nice and helpful. He'll get you anything you need. Whatever they pay him, it's not enough. The rest of the ladies need a bit of motivation and career aspirations besides sitting around talking behind the counter. The place is a typical feed store, minimal in the way of cleanliness or appeal. If you need it urgently, keep your fingers crossed they have it in stock. It's always a crap shoot there. Otherwise, I'd suggest ordering online or buying somewhere else. Example-went there for a dog leash (chain version) for my large dog. They had a medium sized one with the cheapest fake leather strap made in China I have ever seen. Seriously? The cheapest items are not the best one's as they won't last. Whoever is ordering their inventory needs to be allowed more $$ (Are you listening JOHN????) If you increased your inventory and quality (based upon purchase history and customer inquries -which they don't track anyway) your sales would increase by 20% I swear. I would buy all my supplies locally and support local businesses if they were saavy enough and motivated enough ot want to be more profitable. Appears John has enough to pay for his house payment and isn't really interested in joining the 21st Century. They also need to update their sales sytem and get a computer register and maintain a perpetual inventory system. This would help greatly. They still issue hand written receipts! No wonder they don't know when they are out of stock on something! I'd like to give them a better rating but the owner needs to update and take some current business classes on how to operate a successful retail business. read more
