This review is long overdue because I've been struggling to come up with the necessary enthusiasm to appropriately express how amazing Hendough is! I wasn't even hungry when we came here after a long weekend of overeating in Asheville, but we somehow still ordered a creme brulee donut, a hot chicken sandwich, and a donut breakfast sandwich. We started with the creme brulee donut. I swore I would only have one bite, but I ended up eating over half of it in about 5 seconds. I had wanted a creme brulee donut ever since I started seeing them pop up on Instagram, but this was even better than I imagined. It had a perfect caramelized sugar shell with tons of delicious custard inside. I would seriously consider driving all the way from Charlotte just for another one of these beauties. The donut breakfast sandwich was also incredible. I just loved the combination of sweet glaze on the donut and savory bacon, sausage, and cheese. The hot chicken sandwich was also really good, but my wife devoured most of this while I drove home and when I did eventually get a few bites, the biscuit and chicken had become a bit soggy. HenDough is a nice surprise with a great menu of comfort foods in Hendersonville. Comfort as in chicken and biscuits and donuts. The owners and staff are great. We visit often and during our last visit in Jan 22, we had egg biscuits, fried Brussels sprouts and a fried chicken Cobb salad. We had donuts but one was missing a hole so technically not a donut! What a cute place! A home converted to a restaurant that is churning out serious goodness. I had the special (orange honey chicken sandwich) and my daughter had the doughnut breakfast sandwich. To say both of us were pleased with the food is an understatement. Conversation immediately ceased and devouring commenced, evidence of a damn good meal. We got a handful of doughnuts to go and every single one was crazy flavourful, soft, and slightly dense (but not too heavy). Great little stop after a visit to the Children's Museum in Hendersonville. The food is delicious homemade takes on Southern comfort fare like biscuits, fried chicken, and mac and cheese. We tried two fried chicken sandwiches - him the Classic with Duke's mayo and pickles, me the Buffalo with blue cheese, hot wing sauce, sliced tomato and lettuce. I love that the slightly sweet buns (brioche?) are toasted in butter. The chicken is juicy and coated in a light tempura/fish-n-chips type batter. Nice and crunchy. Hubs wished for lettuce on his sandwich but said it was otherwise great. The fries are tasty, although also dusted in some kind of seasoned starch like a Burger King fry (I'd prefer skin-on hand-cut). They're served with "fry sauce" aka come-back sauce to you Southerners. Sweet potato salad has a nice kick - almost a curry flavor in the dressing. Service was friendly and quick and the wait was not bad considering sandwiches are made to order and they were slammed during the weekend lunch rush. Prices seemed fair. My first visit involved breakfast with a chicken biscuit the chicken was Chasey enough but the biscuit was very dry and crumbly and simply fell apart so I ended up eating just the chicken tender. My second visit was for donuts, and while the donut I chose, which was a crème brûlée, tasted wonderful, I had an allergic reaction to it because of the amount of MSG that was in the donut... presumably in the filling. Dealing with the discomfort and anxiety that comes with a pulse of 120 beats a minute for about 90 minutes, plus a blinding headache was definitely not worth it for me. read more

We met the "kids" here for brunch. My first time at HenDough. Plenty of parking on the side of the building. We sat at a picnic table to check out the menu. It is as varied as it needs to be. Sandwiches, biscuits, etc. We chose a maple bacon chicken sandwich and a grits bowl. The chicken sandwich was really good! It wasn't super sweet even though you could taste the maple aioli. The chicken was crispy and well seasoned. My husband's grits bowl was good too since he ate every bite. My only issue is value for the money. Yes, the food was good. The sandwich doesn't come with any side or even a pickle. Fries were $3.50 which isn't an outrageous price. Even some chips would make the food seem more like a meal. I have many acquaintances that have told me I need to try the Donut Breakfast Burger at Hendough if I really love their food (which I obviously do). I was NOT disappointed. The sausage patty that came on the sandwich was absolutely perfect paired with just enough runny egg yolk, cheese, and bacon in the middle. I am giving 4 stars because I love their new and improved hours (now open until 8PM for dinner- YAY). Not sure if they changed their prices, but it only cost my husband and I $20 for the both of us, which was wonderful. I am leaving off one star because it is still semi- difficult to order on the phone or online. They do not have an app (that I have found) to order online. I attempted to use GrubHub (which was stated on their Instagram for Hendersonville) but it did not work. Possibly due to no deliveries on holidays (Valentine's Day?). I have been unable to order on their website as it does not allow me to. I called to place an order at about 11:50 (I'm sure they were slammed), was put on hold for 5 mins, decided to hang up and try to call back and could not get through about 5 times. Luckily, on my way to just go order and wait in the car for them to make it- I got through on the 6th call. Hendough, you always make my stomach happy and my heart full! The chicken biscuits were not cheap but were reasonably priced for the size you get. I got the hot chicken biscuit and it was delicious, well the chicken was. I was a little disappointed w the biscuit which I found dry and further proof came as it fell apart in dry crumbs while you tried to eat it. Kids had some other breakfast biscuits and liked them well enough. I think in the future I'd try to get just the piece of chicken. But lemme tell you, the doughnuts are where it's at! Nice to see places being used in different formats to avoid being torn down. This place obviously had a chicken sandwiches and doughnuts. I went with the recommendation of the employee. Maple Bacon Chicken Sandwich with Mac and cheese. The chicken breast was cooked well, but was underwhelmed by the amount of aioli on the sandwich. I didn't get the flavor till half way through the sandwich. Once I got there it was very good, but wasn't enough in my opinion. We also picked up a few doughnuts for in the morning. Love the chicken biscuits and sandwiches. Favorite sandwich is the Southern. Chicken is crisp but not greasy. Pimento cheese is homemade and flavorful. Add to that coleslaw that that is a little bit sweet and a little bit tangy and in my opinion you have the perfect chicken sandwich. On this stop, which is not my first, I got the chocolate iced and traditional glazed. The chocolate is NOT very sweet - meaning it doesn't not make your toes curl from sweetness. It is dark chocolate but not bitter. The glazed has a hint of vanilla. Again, these are not wimpy. They are hearty yeast donuts. One may be enough for a person. Used to be a frequent customer here. I often work in the area and this was one of the only options for a quick, decent breakfast. Will not be returning after the way I was treated today. I ordered a chicken blt sandwich and a 12oz coffee through the online ordering system. I was waiting at the counter to pick up my food, when I glanced at my emailed receipt and realized I was charged incorrectly. There was a $3.25 charge for the "no side" option I selected with my sandwich. Obviously a glitch in the system, no huge deal. When I was handed my food, I brought this to the attention of the worker and showed her my receipt. She looked kind of perplexed, and then replied "I don't know, do you want a donut or something", to which I said no, not really. She then looked at me with clear annoyance and said "I don't really know what to do about that". This worker had succeeded in making me feel so uncomfortable and somehow in the wrong for bringing up their error, that I took my food and walked away at this point. I am beyond nice and polite to every worker I interact with, here at hendough and everywhere else I go. To be treated with such disregard and frankly disrespect for an error THE RESTAURANT made, is completely unacceptable. I guess to this worker my $3.25 seems indispensable, but I can assure you I work very hard for my income and being charged incorrectly, no matter the amount, is something that should be rectified by any business that has integrity. This is the kind of treatment people have come to expect from McDonalds, there is no excuses for it anywhere, but it is most unwelcome at a small business that is supposed to be a "local" spot. And since we're putting all the cards on the table, this isn't the first time the restaurant failed to correct THEIR error. I placed a to go order on June 6th. Picked up my order, left, and found out it was not made correctly by the time I was already 20 minutes away. I called into the store to let them know that the chicken blt I had ordered had no bacon or tomato (kind of a big part of their stock BLT menu item), and I was told the order would be refunded. Woah!!Holy yummy!! So today was the end of our Asheville road trip and I figured this was a good stop along the way home when I saw it on yelp. Holy Moses parting the waters!!!! Hendough is just plain awesome! I could end the review there but let's move onward and upward. First we came in maybe 25 minutes before closing (at 4PM) - no one sneered - no one raised an eyebrow - no one gave us that look like we were ruining their plans for leaving at closing time. They have an impressive selection of sides. They have a ton of house made donuts. Everything we had was pretty much "to die for". So here's the long of it - Southern Style Chicken Sandwich with pimento cheese and Buffalo Chicken Sandwich - both served hot, juicy and the perfect amount of crunchy batter/coating - just one bite of each and I knew they were going to be amazing sandwiches - spoiler alert - they were. Served with Smoked Gouda Mac and Cheese (so smoky and creamy - I'm going to try and make it at home now) and perfectly crispy shoestring fries with a Fry Sauce that reminded me of the Russian Dressing we used to get at NYC delis growing up. The donuts - I had the sugar twist, the kids chocolate frosted and the wife, Ginger Snap. I prefer mine simple and this one hit the spot. Regular price points start at $1.25 and go up as they get fancier! Towards closing they are half price: an excellent time for you to pick up a dozen for the next morning! They have a nice selection of coffee, local beers (I had AMB Porter) and A2 milk from a local dairy. I have no idea if this place is a madhouse or not during primetime hours - maybe we hit it at an unrushed sweet spot - I will say that this place should be high on your priority list of places to eat in Hendersonville = definitely "destination worthy" even if you were to have to wait a bit.
