The Hot Dog Shack in Granite Quarry is among the very best! Just the right amount of chilli, onions, mustard, and slaw on a fresh bun. The combo comes with two dogs, fries, drink, and a Moon Pie. Cheeseburger is good also. Fries are crispy. Drink selection includes a Cheerwine Shushie. So good. Be prepared for a brain freeze! Love this place. lunch was almost six hours ago so I'm kinda hungry and nothing fixes kinda like hotdogs. and they's just ten minutes away so why not? a short while later I'm pulling up on a little shack that's advertising hotdogs and figure this must be the place! several tables outside under a roof and when I get inside I find a counter and two small tables. menu is on the wall and laminated sheets list the specials up to and including a 12-dog family pack... cool!! got two dogs, fries, drink, and a dessert for less than $10 so that'll work. mustard, oñion, no relish plus jalapeños did alright by me; dogs are a bit limp but they're also bright red so maybe that's just how they are..? fries are hot and potatoey but not too potatoey and pair well with ketchup so I'm good here too. little packaged oatmeal cream cookie for afters and an orange Nehi to wash it all down. not quite a dinner for the ages but it'll do for tonight. couple young ladies behind the counter doing prep work and taking orders and being generally pleasant and helpful. cook is friendly and got me a punch card so what's not to like? rounding up because I've no reason not to ;-) read more

Great little 'hole in the wall' place that sits right on the road with outdoor tables, a few indoor seats and a drive through. It's TINY, but the hot dogs, hamburgers, fried baloney sandwiches (you gotta add pepper and mustard!) and grilled chicken sandwiches are really very good. They only have canned or bottled drinks and Cheerwine slushies, which are also great. Service is pretty quick, especially since their drive thru is where you pull up to the window to order and then wait for your food. They have one pull up spot if there is another car waiting if your order is going to take longer than expected. They have specials (like two hot dogs, fries or chips, a dessert (Moon Pie, Little Debbie, etc.) and a drink. You're going to be hard pressed to find another place like this one! read more

The hot dogs were everything hot dogs should be! Hot, loaded with slaw (I had white; hubby had red), chili, onions, mustard and ketchup on a fresh, warm bun. The piping hot FF's were the best that we had eaten in a long time. Our lunches were packed into a brown paper bag to go. We also ordered Cheerwine slushies and Moon Pies. We thought about eating at the tables out front, but the noise from the cars and trucks speeding past on US Hwy 52 convinced us to take our food to the Granite Quarry Park. I have been craving a hot dog for quite sometime, so I called In a order to be picked up. The hot dog was pink. Who in the world wants a pink hot dog? If your going to call yourself the hot dog shack, you should really consider better brand hot dogs. Because that was absolutely disgusting. The chili had absolutely no flavor. What's so ever. All I could taste was a cold, nasty hot dog. However the fried pickles were decent. The best part was the bottled cheer wine. Will never waste my money here again. My wife and I come here quite a bit and "normally" have decent service. Tonight 5-7-22 we encountered one of the rudest employees we've ever seen at this establishment. We went through the drive thru (we were the only ones in it) and were never acknowledged. After several minutes I blew the horn and the "associate" jerked the window open and in a very curt and rude manner smarted off " Can you give us a minute?!" and then slammed the window shut. Another associate took our order and was very pleasant but we never got a apology from anyone there including the rude one. If this is the kind of attitudes that we are to expect if we decide to come back this business is going to suffer. Lately their service has gotten slow anyway. read more

This is a place I tried out and tried to like. But it was just no good. This place is just a tiny building on the side of the road. It looks like maybe it was a produce stand in a former life. The parking lot is tiny and not paved. Another yelped mentioned the entrance and it is very rough. There is a limited amount of seating under a covered shelter. The menu is simple hot dogs and burgers. There is a drive through window which is a nice touch. The service was very slow considering they are not grilling anything. The hot dogs were of the lowest quality possible. Ditto for the chili. Absolutely disgusting all the way around. These things smelled so horrible they stunk up the whole car. Taste was bland soggy and just bad. The dogs were not grilled the bun was not grilled. The buns had been over steamed until they were like mush. I love me some hot dogs, it is my favorite food, has been as long as I can remember. I so wanted to love a place called the hot dog shack but I just cant and I have tried numerous times, giving them multiple chances but at some point you have to throw in the towel. I have tried their hotdogs, even tried a cheeseburger, French fries and even a Cheerwine slushie which they even managed to screw up and that simply comes out of a machine. The slushie was so watery, tasted like water with a hint of something in it, nothing at all like the Cheerwine slushies at QT. I honestly don't think the pictures they post are of their own food, I think they take stock photos from the internet and use them as their own. Its the only reason I can think of what I get looks nothing like what they actually serve me. Their French fries in pictures look amazing and I love crinkle cuts the most but what you get just looks nothing like the picture and the only reason I can think of is they don't use their actual products in their posts. Do I know this for a fact, no, so don't quote me and get all pissy, that's why I said its what I think and not what I know. Their hotdogs just simply are not good. I don't know if it is the slaw, mustard, chili or a combination there of but it doesn't work, same with the burgers. I do love that this little place has a drive thru but it does me no good since I have quit trying to like it. I did though recently order a bbq butt from East Rowan school and the slaw included was from the hot dog shack and it went great with bbq so for that reason I've added the extra star I've given them. I would eat their slaw again with bbq but I wont go back for food. Hamburgers and hotdogs and fries is all I've ever tried there so like any other review make of it what you will. read more

We were the visiting team for this town's high school football game (which was near this restaurant). We apparently made the mistake of wearing the opposing team colors. It was very obvious that they waited to serve us LAST! There was a lady in our group, who was not wearing team colors, who ordered after us, got her food in about 5 mins, ate her entire meal, and we were still waiting. Locals came in ordered, ate and left, while we waited and waited and waited! We noticed 2 other facilities from our team that were treated this way too. Our 10 min order took 45 minutes. I was skeptical about getting food from here and today there wasnt much of a choice on Door Dash. So I decided to choose this restuarant. I ordered some double bacon cheeseburgers, some grilled chicken sandwiches, some chili cheese fries, some regular fries and onion wings and a filet fish. I have to say omg this food is great!!! And chili cheese fries with cheese,fries and browned hamburger meat. It's just not chili. The onions are cut very large and not diced so it's an over powering flavor on the bun. Was in Rowan Co. today and one of the reasons was to have lunch at the Hotdog Shack.In the door very old school joint with a few spots at the counter an two small tables inside.In front a shelter with several tables.So seating is not bad.Even a few more out around the building.There was six of us and most of us choose combos which came with burger choice of Fries or a bag of chips.Once we ordered our food at the counter we got us a spot to set and talk a spell.Between the drive thru window and the people coming and going it was a busy place.My cheeseburger and fry combo came with Let-Tom-pic-mayo.The fries cooked just like I like them.A good amount of crisp.Naturally I had a Hotdog with mustard-chili-slaw.The toasted bun was a nice surprise.The Hotdog Shack has a good chili.They where not skippy at all with the lettuce and tomato on my burger.Kinda made you think you made it at home.Being in Rowan Co. our drink choice was of course Cherrwine, Cherrwine slushy or Sundrop.Works for me.And they do take debit.We will drop in again. read more

These had been stored in the fridge, or judging by the lack of any flavor, perhaps frozen and then left out to thaw. Home made slaw and chilli was yummy. And 2 dogs and a drink for just over $4 dollars is a great value. I did not try the hamburger, but the gentleman beside me said he has had lunch here every day since they opened. The place stays busy, but they put out a lot of food quickly. When I was ready to leave and walked outside I noticed a gentleman standing at his truck. In the back was a black lab. I asked him how he liked the food. He said it was the best you could find. He then said, if you don't believe me just ask the dog. He then unwrapped a Hotdog and presented it to the dog. One gulp an it was gone. I guess that says it all. You can't pass The Hotdog Shack up.
