Water glasses were dirty. First one returned with another dirty glass. Asked if a chilled glass was available to have with my bottled beer. Time passed.... Waitresses seemed busy so I thought I'd just ask the bartender who promptly replied... Sir, we're chilling it now.... (Who knew.... there was no communication). A few more minutes pass and then the bartender not our waitress comes over and delivers the glass and says in a very snarky manner; "patience is a virtue"..... Very offending and rude! In all of the 20 years of going to Hennessys we've never such an experience much less anywhere else. When I approached the manager he gruffly said I'll talk to her. For the most part, you're going to be paying for the privilege to grab a seat at this happening spot. Yes, location, location, location has kept this place alive for decades. Location is probably the only thing keeping this restaurants head above water, because it certainly isn't the food. Don't expect to walk away feeling that you got what you paid for, unless of course it was convenience and location. That you'll get in spades. Here's where we blew it. My girl ordered the salmon. We unfortunately didn't ask before ordering if it was wild caught. YOU MUST ALWAYS ASK IF THE SALMON IS WILD CAUGHT. We forgot. We assumed, and ended up being spanked. At first bite it became apparent that the poor fish gave its life in vain. Asking at the end of the meal if the salmon was farm raised, our server leaned in and said "not only is it farm raised, it comes to us frozen". Then seeing the unfinished fish on the plate, the server apologized and then proceeded to tell us what were the best options on the menu. Those being the burgers, nachos, and shepherds pie. Stick to those and enjoy the booze, scenery, and fresh salt air. Yes, if the salmon isn't fresh, you can count on the air being so. Oh, I should let you know what I ordered. I had to settle on my third choice of beer, and my second choice of entree. No brisket sandwich, and no 805, or Pacifico beer. I settled for a BLT with avocado and a Coors Light. That worked in a pinch. Quick Tip: Try to get a table up top and next to the edge. You'll understand when seated. Don't forget the sunglasses. Again, you'll understand when seated. Hennessys has great specials , especially on Tuesdays. Unfortunately we didn't go on a Tuesday but if you do the breakfast is but one get one free and the burgers at lunch are the same ! We chose to sit upstairs and admire the view. Parking is meter parking but very close! Our server seemed to be a little confused on the menu which made it confusing for us when ordering , but that could have been our fault for asking questions and trying to sub items. Our order did come out wrong but they made up for it and fixed it no problem. We will definitely be back for a Tuesday breakfast special! read more

Had breakfast with a friend during the week and it was such an amazing view of the beach/pier. The food was good, I got avocado toast but I felt like it was kind of lacking in the avocado department. I only got one slice of bread and it didn't look like the photo on their online menu. When it came out my friend asked me if I'd gotten the wrong order lol I still thought the food was good and they accommodated substitutions. I tried Irish bacon for the first time. That said, got here right about when things began to crack and get loose. Now that can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. But I don't need a translator when I say crack and get loose! Found this spot because it was one of the hosts for blue moon brewery hosting their blue moon beer being blue for the blue moon weekend! So we were super stoked for this. Upon trying to order this our server, I think her name was Mallory. Told us that, they can only serve this during the dodgers game... which made no sense as this wasn't something dodgers related. And this was the only reason we came. She came back and told us she doesn't have it to serve. I tried to order an Irish kiss, which is one of their cocktails, and she said she didn't have any. At this point, it's like, okay then can you please just tell me what you do currently have on the menu? Our server was nice, but even so she didn't exactly know what is going on or what they had available Do not order the lemonade; it was watered down.. as if someone poured it out on accident and it just sat there until someone ordered one. It had no flavor whatsoever. All that saved it was the cowboy burger was pretty decent, and they have good quality of bacon... Hennesey Tavern's happy hour isn't what it used to be, but I mainly rated this place for the - location - views - superb customer service On the rare occasions I have visited, I managed to get a seat on the top floor to get a nice sunset view of the pier and courtyard. I recently came in on a weekday before the dinner rush hour since the top floor tends to fill up QUICK. I'm a fan of their beer battered fish & chips, Korean BBQ chicken bites, and their Reuben (pleasant surprise). I've also heard the pub nachos are popular as well, but I haven't had the chance to try them. I just tried the house 'Henessey's Rita' w/Espero Blanco with blackberry puree. I've got to try the mango one later this summer! One of my favorite, underrated feat. of this restaurant is that they can give you water in a full to go cup if you ask. I really didn't want to have to write this. I'm not someone who enjoys complaining, but after this happening repeatedly, I felt like I had to say something. My boyfriend and I have been coming to this Hennessey's for over three years, and since moving to Hermosa Beach last year we've made Wednesday happy hour our weekly tradition. We genuinely loved coming here, and always looked forward to it. which makes this especially disappointing. Lately, we've received consistently poor service. On multiple visits, we've waited 15-20 minutes without anyone acknowledging us while watching tables around us get greeted and served promptly. I've even raised my hand, made eye contact, and said "Excuse me," only to be completely ignored. We're honestly at a loss for why this keeps happening. We're easy regulars--we order a couple of drinks and an appetizer every Wednesday, never send food back, never ask for anything extra, and my boyfriend almost always tips the highest suggested amount (except this last visit, which was the final straw). I've worked in restaurants myself, so I understand how busy things get, and how to be a respectful employee as well as patron. This doesn't feel like a simple mistake--it feels like we're being deliberately avoided, and it's honestly hurtful. Basic acknowledgment and courtesy shouldn't be too much to ask. We've had a couple of wonderful servers over the years, and this isn't about them. We also loved the food and drinks. It's about a pattern that's become impossible to ignore. We're genuinely sad, disappointed, and confused. We loved our Wednesday tradition, but after this last incident we are pressured into finding a new spot. We just wish we understood why loyal, respectful, low maintenance customers are being treated this way. read more

The food was just okay. Very expensive for a small sandwich with kettle chips. Ridiculously over priced. Floor/carpet needs vacuuming. My biggest issue was their bathroom. Absolutely filthy dirty. Water everywhere on counter, big roll of paper towels on counter instead of installing it in its wall container. No seat covers at all. Trash can completely full, and it's a huge can. They were not busy at the time I went into restaurant. Nothing worse than going to eat at a restaurant and the place is dirty and bathrooms not clean. read more

Haven't been here in over 20 years... Got the old seating/view from my first date with my partner back in the days who I'm still with today! The view is amazing! The second floor up top is small but pretty cozy. They have small tvs for sports.. a decent amount of tables, and a bar up there. Got the plant-based burger, some onion rings.. it was pretty good. Our server was also friendly. She made sure we got moved quickly to the seat we wanted. She also provided everything we asked for. Overall, had a great time. This is my favorite place to go in Hermosa Beach for one thing, the view! Their food is pretty delicious as well, but you can't beat the view of the beach and the ocean from the upstairs patio, just fantastic! We came on a Tuesday, so took advantage of the two for Tuesday burger deal, which is a really good one by the way, and got the Irishman and the cowboy up burgers, both were really good, but I think the Irishman was my favorite. Now shift change...new waitress comes to table... Megan...didnt say hello or even look at us. Just says you wanna another beer? I look at my husband and then Megan and she never looked up... after she brought the beer to the table she turned and walked away without saying a word...my husband said hey how are you today? She said I'm really busy and turned and walked away... now, both my husband and I have been in the business... This is not how you treat your customers... You at least acknowledge them and say hello to them when they're sitting at the table. I felt like she just couldn't be bothered with us... Her attitude could use some improvement... Busy or not, you should be cordial to your customers... They do have good food, but Megan needs a day off for an attitude adjustment. read more

The waitress will give you attitude and not be understanding when the kitchen has messed up, she will actually throw the kitchen under the bus and then be rude to you. What a beautiful restaurant with spectacular views! Came in on a Tuesday afternoon for lunch and was seated right away on the upper floor for those views of the beautiful blue ocean. Sarah was our server and she took excellent care of us. Cute little bar on the third floor as well as the first floor. A lot of seating choices everywhere in the restaurant. My skinny margarita was nice and cold and refreshing and made perfectly. I had to order the two timin' Tuesday's with the buy one burger and get one free. They've got some very unique delicious burgers. I enjoyed the Irishman and the Frisco burger, and they were both perfectly cooked & served medium, and with all the toppings and sauces were very satisfying and flavorful. Called in to see if the kitchen was open at like 10:20 to come in with some friends for food. Came in and they checked our ids and couldn't even tell if they were fake or not so just let us in. (They were real we just had a friend from out of state). We were directed to an area rather than a table. We waited like 10 minutes and no server showed up or greeted us. I went to the bar to ask if there were servers and he said there were. Got a beer and pounded the whole thing and still no service so we just left. Pretty disappointed. I'm a server myself and there's really no excuse for that kind of service, especially after letting the bartender know we haven't been checked on. The service was mediocre at best, but the real problem is the food. It was genuinely bad. How do you mess up French fries? Easy -- drown them in oil. How do you ruin wings? Drown them in oil and strip away all flavor. How do you destroy sliders? Same thing -- greasy, tasteless, and poorly executed. Everything we ordered was excessively oily, heavy, and bland. No seasoning, no balance, no care. It felt like frozen bar food rushed straight from the fryer to the plate. This place relies entirely on its location, because the food absolutely does not justify eating here. Hermosa Beach has so many better options within walking distance. Huge disappointment. Came to this location (been to 3 others) for the now $7 smash burger Thursday. Rebel in Redondo has $6 double cheeseburger & Fries and Hennessy Redondo also has 241 burger Tuesday which works out to about $10. The owner of Hennessy also owns Rebel. Don't know if one owner owns them all but they might be franchises since they don't all have the same specials although the menus appear to be the same. The Hermosa smash burger with cheese and grilled onions while cheap at $7 was just not good. It could have been good but the Pattie's look as though they were steamed since they were grey in color with no sear or char. Both Rebel and Hennessy Redondo know how to cook their meat. I heard the cook after 5 is better because he couldn't be much worse. If you get a soft drink you get about 4 ounces in a giant glass of ice. I've noticed all Hennessys are not at all good at refilling drinks. The fries were ok but a child's portion at best. Everything about rebel and RB Hennessys is superior food wise the Hermosa. 3 stars is generous and reflects the fact that the burger and fries were only $7. Execution could fix the problem. I usually hit up Hennessey's on Thursday after volleyball and I normally have a great time. It's a self-seat establishment but the waiters always notices us pretty quickly and will start catering to our needs. All the servers are super friendly and I always feel taken care of. One of the best parts of the is that it tends to be clean and a great vibe as you are literally right next to the beach. I always go on Thursdays night where there have a $6 smash burger deal that comes with fries. In 2024 it's a great deal and the quality of the burger is a great. It comes out fresh and had a good meat that is salted very well. Only giving it a 4 instead of a 5 because I haven't tried other items. However I'll be back! read more

Came here excited to go to an Irish bar for St. Patricks Day during our vacation. Paid for an Uber. They were supposed to be celebrating 50 years. First thing to get in we had to pay a five dollar cover to go inside to have dinner for myself and my husband. We were not seated had to find a table upstairs in our own. There was no drink menu which was very disappointing to start with. Next, we wanted the corn beef and cabbage dinner they had been advertising in Facebook and Instagram. Now they tell us they are out. How do they run out of this on the holiday with all the advertising they did? So I settle for a French dip sandwich. The sandwich was so gross I gave half to my husband because it was making me feel sick and the dip was a light brown onion soup or something not good. The side with that was some dry potato chips with zero flavor. When we were done we waited a very long time to pay until the manager came over and asked us if we had been taken care of. I didn't want to complain and we paid 80$ for a crappy dinner and left. I have never had to pay a cover to eat dinner before it was really weird.
