Wall mural....awesome FUN! Love the artwork!

Worth the drive! This is a fun restaurant that serves amazing hone cooked meal and authentic German dishes. The portions are huge here so go hungry. We were immediately seated once we arrived. They are only open until 7 pm during the week, and we got there a little after 6:15 pm and was still able to eat. The white French dressing is amazing on their salads. I had the Rouladan which are these stuffed beef rolls. So good! By the way...leftovers from here heat up really well the next day. The staff was working hard and they are friendly and made us feel welcome. Side note--it's a cash only restaurant. I'm mentioning this so you can plan ahead. Love the decor here too! Everything is homemade, fresh and delicious!

This was DELICIOUS! I ordered the homemade sausage with German potato salad and saurkraut. My husband ordered the Hungarian Goulasch and potato pancakes! They were both tasty and included large portions (enough for two meals if you can resist!) I asked for the Yaeger potato's because they came recommended by a friend but they told my husband that my meal already came with it, they did not. Sad I didn't get to try these elusive potato's. Maybe on the next visit. My husband was not a fan of the rolls. That's ok, the rest of the meal was awesome!

You get a whole lot more of what your hungerin' for at the Red Barn!

Not exactly what I wanted from a German menu, but what they did have was prepared perfectly, served hot, and tasted authentic. I got the wienerschnitzel with spaetzle. Was great. The petite order and I still took some home. Wife got the orange roughy, which was a large order. I tasted it. Fresh and delicious, but not German, but really good. Table next to us had prime rib. It looked MASSIVE!!! Now, BAD PART, no jaeger schnitzel. Not even by request. (Same schnitzel with Demi glacé gravy loaded with mushrooms, my favorite German dish) I'm guessing they are a couple generations away from German ancestors, but still very good. Highly recommend. Also, best use of an old Red Barn building I have ever seen check out my pics, lol!

If you're out and about in NE Ohio and looking for a great steak or prime rib, there is a little hidden gem in Kent, Ohio named Henry Wahner's. It's been there for years. It used to be an old Red Barn Restaurant on Rt. 59. It's not fancy, schmancy! But it doesn't have to be. There food speaks for itself. Not only do they have amazing steaks and prime rib, but their specialty is German food. Schnitzel, pork chops, Jager potatoes, everything is above par. They make their own salad dressings. They only take cash and are closed on Sunday and Monday. They don't open until 4pm, but it's so worth the wait(if you want prime rib, get there early, it sells out fast). It was definitely worth the Saturday drive. You should check them out, two thumbs up!!

First off everything stated in the previous Yelp reviews is true! Here is my take. What you see is not even close to what it is. Dining area reminds me of a 1970s vintage family restaurant. So much so that I would have left except it was VERY busy. A full house of locals is a good sign to stick it out. Food here seems split between your German Grandma for dinner and a Middle Ages meat fest. Tonight we had German. But we seen good looking steaks the size of chuck roast pouring out of the kitchen. Definitely a local favorite. The wife's Schnitzel was huge. My Rouladen was big also. Both of us liked the large amount of yummy Spatzel that came with it. It did not take long to see why they were busy. Food was like nothing we have had anywhere else (at least not East of Atlantic Ocean). Looking for something you haven't had? Here is you chance.

This is the meat restaurant you have to experience to even come close to appreciating! MASSIVE cuts of meat!!! All well seasoned and flavorful. I had the prime rib and had to have been over 3 pounds. Tender and juicy. Scallops were cooked and seasoned to perfection! Schnitzel (pounded breaded pork) was also a real treat! There are also many other items, but this is Beef Country. They only take CASH, but their prices are unbelievable for what you get. It's a meal you will talk about and will be the yardstick by which others will be judged! Seriously, it's an experience and a Culinary Extravaganza! It is the Porsche of beef restaurants. There is no substitute!

Meat sweats. Yup, that pretty much says it all. My favorites... smoked pork chops, schnitzel and then the porter house. Have not managed to get to the Prime Rib just yet. All of the meals come with enough food for you to take some home. Sides are pretty good as well. Especially the potato salad and or spetzil. They have fantastic deserts as well, so save space. Good German beers. Only real down sides are if you go in the weekend, you may wait for a long time. No reservations. So they may run out of Prime Rib.

Great food & great service. Chicken cordon bleu and bbq ribs are great. My husband & I usually have enough leftovers for 2 more meals.

Battleground is an upscale Mexican restaurant that absolutely nails authentic flavor. The food,…read moredrinks, and atmosphere all come together perfectly. The cocktails are creative, balanced, and reasonably priced -- I had the hibiscus mezcal margarita, which had an incredible depth of flavor. For my main, I ordered the Cena de Tacos, which comes with your choice of two out of five sides. I went with a creamy corn bowl and a side of Mexican rice -- both rich, flavorful, and comforting. My wife ordered the shrimp bowl with rice, which was just as delicious. What really stands out here is the authenticity -- every bite tastes like it was crafted with care and respect for traditional Mexican cooking. The interior is classy and modern, yet relaxed enough to feel comfortable. I also love the thoughtful touch of their craft beers being named after social justice initiatives. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. Despite the restaurant being nearly full -- she was quick to serve. If you're looking for genuine Mexican flavors served in an elegant but welcoming setting, Battleground is a must-visit.

I'll premise this by saying I had very high hopes for this experience because we recently relocated…read morefrom Texas, and after reading the reviews, I thought we may have a restaurant that contended with the authentic Mexican and TexMex we got down there. But alas, I don't think we will return to The Battleground. The service was awkward. The hosts and our waiter were, for a lack of better words, socially awkward young men dressed like they just left school and may have tossed their backpacks behind the hostess stand. It was a weird contrast for the slightly upscale prices and interior they present. The waiter seemed nervous, which, in itself isn't a bad thing, but they awkwardly lingered when it wasn't necessary and was hard to get their attention when we needed our check and to pay the bill. The food and drinks were a mixed review. The Battleground margaritas were delicious. The chips and salsa were not great, we mostly got a basket of tortilla shards. My partner got three tacos--carne azada, al pastor, and fish. His big takeaway was, "they're not very hot (temperature) and they're kind of bland." Similarly, we got the margs "spicy," but my Texas palate said, "this is spicy?" It had a tajin rim, from what I can figure. ...Maybe we're not the normal Ohioan clientele. A bright note, the refried black beans and esquites were awesome and the esquites big enough to share. I ordered the Pescado Veracruz, the plating and sides were good but the mahi mahi was chewy and only slightly above room temperature. Like I said earlier, maybe I did myself a disservice by hoping to find my new favorite Mexican restaurant... but, I just don't see us going back for great margaritas and sides.
