This brewery feels like it's in a quiet residential neighborhood because it is; nearby is a wine by but otherwise it's picturesque streets and homes. Going inside it looks a little unremarkable, like a garage brewery anywhere. But inside it's special. The main bar room is like an open barn, with warmth tasteful decor. Behind the bar is an antique ice chest, used to display their merchandise. They have a small menu of tasteful styles; we all got to talk to one of the brewers who was clearly proud of what they make. Further inside there are other rooms for private events, working brewery areas, historical decor, and restrooms at the end. The real draw here though is the outdoor beer garden: wood chip floor, big comfy Adirondack chairs, picnic tables, high tops, fire pit areas, basically any type of seating for groups or singles. Big trees, ivy, green everywhere; it was so relaxing enjoying our flights as cyclists and others came in and out through the gate from the street. The beer was also great, delicious quality and reasonable prices. This is a must-visit brewery in Cleveland, you sure don't feel like you're in a city when you're here.

The other was too engrossed in his conversation with other patrons to notice us. We weren't greeted, asked if we had any questions about the menu, etc. Once we got our drink order in, we were interested in getting food as well. Getting the attention of the staff was truly a feat to boot. We finally got the food order in and ended up moving to a table because the first bartender kept staring at us with her hands on her hips. We got the food, expecting something like Bottlehouse/Masthead/HiHo for our meal, and it was Sysco food. The chicken sandwich was a Sysco chicken tender on a bun. For over $35.00 in food alone, we expected more. We both work in the service industry and understand that things happen, but being treated like an inconvenience for our entire experience is something I was not expecting from a brewery with such high ratings. The cherry on top: in the men's room, 1 of the 3 sinks and both of the urinals were out of order. Definitely will not be back.

The schweinshaxe was a huge pork shank with krauts. The pork shank was so slow cooked so it was super tender and flavorful. It was so good. I wished they added a bit more krauts to it. I couldn't finish it at all cause it was just so much. There was bread pudding to the dish. I guessed because of the savory and sourness of the krauts and pork shank. They needed to add some sweetness by introducing bread pudding. The bread pudding was very yummy. My partner enjoyed his pork schnitzel. He said Das Schnitzel Haus made it better but this came in a very close second. Overall, we love their menu since they offer something different. While we water for food it was the perfect time to decide what we were going to drink. They were offering a hybrid cider/IPA made with Koji and in conjunction with Larder. It was so refreshing. I would definitely order it again. The space is rustic as described and spacious. There is a party room and patio. I am looking forward to visiting the BottleHouse in Cleveland Heights.

We just spontaneously attended book swap at Lakewood BottleHouse. It was my first visit to BottleHouse out West. AMBIANCE: The ambiance simultaneously caters to various guests. It's refreshing to see this at the brewery. There's a large wooden bar perfect for guys' nights. Secluded room with twinkling bottles descending from the ceiling that's ideal for celebrations. Enclosed patio for friends' get togethers. Large open space for groups and events. More dim area for intimate dates. I personally found the dim area to be too dim for my eyes. I love that one can go to this mead hall, and experience a different setting every single time. FOOD/DRINKS: BottleHouse Lakewood has a kitchen as opposed to the East Side's food partnerships/pop-ups. We didn't order food but the book swappers were raving about their fries. My friend and I were most interested in our BottleHouse favorite - mead. I tasted their sweeter meads before and loved them. I ordered Metropolis mead this time (highly recommended by the bartender). My mead was the color of bold red wine. Metropolis was described as a semi-dry black currant apple mead with spices (clove and allspice). This mead wasn't my favorite, it was too acidic, bitter, and bold. For the pour size it wasn't worth over $12. I more gravitate toward golden and light meads. While I won't be sipping on Metropolis again, I look forward to checking out other meads here. If you're also a mead fan, find the list of their four meads in red on the chalkboard at the bar. SERVICE: Service was amicable. Most service was self-initiated at the bar. Drinks and food can be ordered at the bar. Your servers will find you by the number you will be provided. The view out one side is onto Lorain Ave. Out another side looks out upon St. Ignatius High School. Out another side looks into the brewery itself, filled with giant stainless steel equipment. The menu is brought to your table written on a large chalkboard... one for the whole table. It has a marvelous selection of German specialties... everything you could possibly want. I ordered the lamb chops (very nicely priced). They came out, much to my surprise, all as double cut chops. So I didn't just get 4 lamb chops. I actually got 8. And wow! they were beautiful, meaty, perfectly seasoned, and cooked exactly as I requested. The red cabbage and green beans were excellent as well. It was a wonderful meal. My wife ordered the Weiner schnitzel with spätzle... absolutely fabulous... perfect. Our guests ordered Weiner schnitzel and Chicken paprikash and they were thrilled with the quality of their meals also. We all followed up with coffee and homemade strudel that was to die for.
