We arrived after the lunch hour on a Monday. There were still several patrons coming and going.

Henry's Diner looks like it has been around for many years. Based on our experience, this place will be around for quite a while to come. There were still several patrons on a Monday even after the lunch hour. Many of them seemed to be regulars there. Service was friendly and efficient. The menu had a nice selection of appetizers, sandwiches, and dinners. There were also 4 daily specials -- I choose the Meatloaf dinner (good) with sides of Ham & Bean Soup (excellent) and American Fries (otherwise known as country potatoes -- also delicious). My wife had the Henry's Philly which had plenty of prime rib, peppers, cheese, and onions work a side of Onion Rings. Both were delicious! We had barely enough room to share a piece of Peach Pie. Double crusted with homemade whipped cream. It was a great finish to our meal.

Stopped over in Crescent IA last night after some errands last night. Sounds this little joint not to far north off the main left turn. Their honey rolls and butter are amazeballs! And who doesn't dig club crackers?! It's been a while! T snagged the ribeye, side of spaghetti and potato. Griddle cooked. Cooked to how he likes it. Said it wasn't bad. Pretty sure he dug the spaghetti over the ribeye because that went FAST and comments about the sauce were made! I grabbed the Henry's Club Sandwich. Next time I'll have to ask for no lettuce because there was a TON of lettuce on it. Side salad and onion rings for the two sides. Those onion rings reminded me a lot of my favorite burger joints' rings, super good and flaky. The salad... I too had a hair (black and curly)... I couldn't bring myself to finish it so kindly moved that to the side. I can do a lot of things, but hair mixed with creamy dressing doesn't do it for me. Of course we grabbed their strawberry rhubarb (Ts) and a lemon pie (I loooove lemon) to go and both were excellent! Honestly all and all, the staff were amazing, I just wasn't overly impressed with the food. But I'll give them a second chance for sure, and see if not getting a short and curly, bumps them up a star or so. Sweet little drive for sure though!

Nothing finer than to be at Henry's Diner for Sunday Breakfast. I had a BYO omelet - bacon, tomato, onion and Swiss cheese with raisin toast. Dad had biscuits and gravy. He brought home half of his and I brought home about a third of mine. Service is always welcoming and complete. Atmosphere is small down, down home

I was born and raised near Crescent, IA and I love coming to Henry's whenever I come home to visit. I can't tell you what all is good here because I always get the same thing -- their massive hot beef sandwich! A Midwest favorite and Henry's does it better than anyone else. One taste of the gravy and you know you've hit the mother load. My wife gets their chicken-fried steak which they bread themselves and she says it's the bomb as well. Our servers have always been kind, attentive, and diligent. They have large glasses which I enjoy and quickly get me refills before I run dry. Love this place!

Approximately 20 minutes from Omaha (give or take depending on where in Omaha you live), Denny's Place in Crescent, IA is a bar (and grill) serving up a whole lotta tasty pizza. This is not CPK, so don't expect Thai chicken or Greek feta fun or California vegan tofu sprout. Denny's is about the basics...firm, crispy crust loaded with the right amount of sauce and a generous heap of standard toppings covered in cheese for a good price (a medium combo pizza runs about $12). Denny's is small with a local, dive feel. On a Saturday night, the wait for a pizza can be up to an hour. Don't be discouraged. If, like me, you love yourself some bar food, settle in with your cold beer and order a pre-pizza appetizer or two. I highly recommend a basket of their fried dill pickle spears and a basket of hot wings. They get all five stars for always friendly service, more than decent pizza, deep fried baskets of happiness, cold beer and that neighborhood dive vibe that I'm fond of. Dinner for three with beer, apps and pizza - $35.

This Breakfast/Brunch gem features a U shaped bar flanked by booths on either end of the room. Walking into this place feels like walking into a Time Machine from when it was opened in 50s or 60s (website said 1968). Regardless it hasn't changed much and that's the charm of it all. The background story of who Harold was captures the American spirit and the wall decorated with his war medals brings it all home and bolsters the charm of this place. In addition to Harold's story, the business also has some Hollywood charm. We sat diagonal from the booth that Jack Nicholson sat in for the 2002 film "About Schmidt" where he played a retired insurance agent from Omaha (the film was also mostly filmed on location). You'll know if you're in the booth because there is a gold plaque commemorating the booth. The servers were fast and friendly. This diner is known for their homemade cake donuts, cinnamon rolls, and pecan rolls; we unfortunately did not partake as we were too full. Prices were reasonable and as stated before, you get a lot of food. Bottom line: if you need a brunch spot and you have the time, go check out this dime of a diner...you won't regret it.

Also, our server was the absolute best, very friendly and kind, and she checked up on us regularly. The food did take a little bit to come out, but we were a slightly larger group of four, but we were excited to dig in! I got the waffles and bacon combo, which was a great serving and enough for a snack later. The bacon was super crispy and tasty, and the waffles were a bit drier but still yummy. Everyone else was impressed with their meals and the chicken and gravy was a huge hit with my dad. I would love to come back here in the future, and very likely will!

Our waitress took our drink orders about 5 minutes later but didn't come back to take our food order until about 1:15. We got one malt at 1:20 and didn't get the other until almost 1:30. The table across from us had ordered shortly after we sat down and still didn't have their food at this point. The lady asked their waitress about the wait, who said they only had one cook, and it would be about 5 more minutes. 15 minutes or so later (1:45ish) the lady got up, walked outside, came back, and announced that the cook was outside smoking. She also observed that her order was sitting in the window. It's now 2pm and neither of us have our food. 5 or so minutes later our waitress comes to our table with multiple baskets - my Patty Melt and Fries (which the lady also ordered and observed in the window 20ish minutes earlier), my cup of Chili, a Reuben we didn't order, my son's Burger and Fries, my older daughter's French Dip (but not the Au Jus or Fries), and not my younger daughter's Philly and Fries. I informed our waitress of the errors and that the Patty Melt was cold. The table across from us got up and walked out. After several minutes, the other waitress came by and asked if we still wanted the Philly or Patty Melt. We said "No". They comped our meal which is why they get an additional star. That was just absurd. 30+ minutes for a malt?! An hour and 20 minutes after sitting down (50 minutes after ordering) to get about half of what we ordered?! And to mix up 2 tables orders that ordered nearly half an hour apart? What in the name of hot messes everywhere is going on at this diner?! I left a $20 tip to cover the malts, which were actually pretty good, and ($6 each I was told), and for the attempts at service.

Given the recent storms hitting the Fremont area nonstop, we figured we'd support this local mom-and-pop spot for lunch this weekend. We walked in and were quickly seated at a booth near the kitchen window and the lunch counter stools. The greeting was prompt, and drink orders were taken--iced tea and Coke Zero. Yep, this little diner is proudly a Coke Zero establishment. Classic! I usually get the club sandwich, but this time I took a moment to consider if I should branch out. But, I ended up sticking with my original choice. I went for the club with tots, crispy of course. My husband opted for the Big Bopper Burger and crinkle fries. While we waited for our food, we chatted, checked our phones, and had a little people-watching session. One memorable moment was watching a toddler trying to feed boogers to a teenager. Classic diner experience! I couldn't help but overhear the servers gossiping at the lunch counter while rolling silverware, occasionally letting out a few choice words. I'm not one to judge, but it is a business, and I can't help but wonder if that might bother other customers. On top of that, I overheard them questioning whether a to-go order looked right before boxing it up. Makes you wonder... After what felt like an eternity, our food finally arrived. My tots were supposed to be crispy, but they were more like soggy, sad little bites of disappointment. I could tell they'd been fried crispy and sat around too long. The club sandwich was good, as always, though I wish the toast had been a little crispier. I get it, though; that happens when a sandwich sits in the window for a bit. My husband didn't have complaints about his burger, but there was one odd thing. The fries on his plate were barely there. He had just a scattering of a few cold ones. The server then mentioned they were making him a fresh order of fries, which left me wondering: did he get leftover fries from a previous order, or whatever was left in the fry basket? It seemed a bit off. He said the fries on his plate were cold, so I guess the mystery of leftover fries remains unsolved. Unfortunately, this was the most disappointing meal we've ever had at Mel's. I'm not sure I'll be in a hurry to return next time I'm in the area. It's still a cute spot with a lot of potential, but it fell short this time.
