I do love the diner but I feel like their menu items have been very varied over the past few years. I loved the cheese curds when I first went to the diner but now they are too soggy and a little too tiny. I do have positives about the diner though, such as, their breakfast menu prices; and their breakfast food variability. I love that they offer so many breakfast items such as their #2, which is $4.95 with two eggs and two plate sized pancakes. Their variability also goes into their huge, pan-cooked omelets, that usually have 2-5 ingredients all under $10 (this meal is usually able to feed at least two average adults). I love their portions that they serve for their breakfast and some items on their lunch and dinner menu. I do love their lunch and dinner menu but some of the items are not very different from other diners and restaurants. Their menu is pretty generic for an American diner; with the classic appetizers like cheese curds, French fries, and mozzarella sticks. So if you do like the generic American diner with some grease but not too much I feel like Henry's diner is a great, small town, locally owned establishment. They have all the good things in life like beer, burgers, and wings. If you're into supporting local establishments like clothing stores and/or restaurants and fast food joints then you should totally go to Henry's diner. All restaurants, diners, and fast food organizations have their flaws and none of them can be completely perfect which is why I'm giving this establishment a 4 out of 5 stars. We were driving around and wanting something really good on a Saturday night. We found Henry's Diner and decided to give it a shot. The interior is plain- nothing fancy at all. Some customer's were dressed up, some looked like they just got off work from the fields. But can the food over come the lack luster interior? YES, we both ordered prime rib. I love prime rib and not very many places can make it both tender and flavor full. Service was really good. Food was delivered quickly, drinks were always full, the server was polite, friendly, and quick. I have to say you get a lot of food, and every bit was good. I had soup- clearly homemade- like mom made- well, before she got a microwave. Hash browns were crispy, yet tender. I really loved the spaghetti- it was really good with a fantastic sauce. But let's get to the main event- the Prime Rib. The prime rib has the best flavor I have ever had. The outside crust was life changing. The juice was hot and I could not get enough. The meat was so tender. I have not had a meal that good in a long, long, time. Everyone agreed, this place was special. I quickly regretted not getting the biggest size to take some home. As we left- we were in total bliss and it was the meal we really wanted. We asked to talk to the manager- and told him how the meal will remembered. His brother makes the prime rib from scratch and it shows. It is made with love and with a dash of perfection. We have been back and will go back. My only criticism is they do struggle with Medium-rare- it was a little brown instead of pink- but the flavor and texture- PERFECT. I actually came to Crescent, Iowa to eat at Denny's Pizza, but they were not open on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon where the town seemed packed and full of life. Almost a flea market atmosphere in the streets. I then saw the packed parking lot at Henry's Diner and decided that I would try that instead. Henry's is a large metal building and upon entering you notice how much of the place is in the dark. Like people sitting and eating in a darkened half of a building. Only one row of strip lighting on and the natural light. Odd. I sat at the bar and was waited on promptly and asked if I had ever been there before. I said no-and he went through the things that they are known for. Hot beef, tenderloin, onion rings, hamburger etc. I went with the mushroom and swiss burger and curly fries. The bar area is sports themed and the dinning area was more country home themed. Free wi-fi with no password needed. My food arrived-the burger was good. Good beef, hot and juicy, bun toasted and tasted good. Lots of mushrooms (though they were definitely canned mushrooms). The curly fries were you basic curly fries and not seasoned (which is fine with me). A satisfying lunch. Nothing really worth driving over for specifically, but if travelling the old Lincoln Highway or going skiing it is not a bad option. Best meal I've had in a while. Very affordable and excellent service. Took my mom for the prime rib special. We got onion rings too, her favorite. All of it was superb. Homemade and definitely not the frozen premade junk. Even the salad dressing was fabulous. This will definitely be our new regular spot. We both got the meat sweats after. read more

5 stars for simple reasoning. Amy was a great server who treated my son and I very well, the Ribeye was $18 and delicious (perfectly cooked as well), and it's a diner on a small road in a small town with friendly smiley people. What more could you ask for?! read more

Enjoy a good old fashioned diner in a small town? Henry's fits that bill. As a local, we enjoy just about everything on the menu. They have nightly specials - try the Wednesday night Mexican - trust me, you will get more food than you bargained for! The homemade soups which are offered daily are great with a sandwich. The patty melt is one of their best and my husband thinks their prime rib rivals any of the big name restaurants in Omaha. You won't be disappointed with anything you order here. read more

Local joint! Regulars are well known here. So when you walk in unknown you get a couple looks! Breakfast is not served all day, only on Sunday. Word of mouth says the Phillys are good. We had a half order of hot beef (regular run of the mill), BLT (ditto), breaded cauliflower (hard and over cooked). Service was fine. They could use a good cleaning of the lamps over the tables, but other wise very typical run of the mill place. I'd stop back because I just like local joints. Gotta support the locals! read more

Very nice sit down restaurant in Crescent, Ia. A good variety on the menu, mainly American cuisine. Their daily specials are worth the trip. Large dining room is decorated nicely with plenty of light, also. The staff seemed very friendly and helpful. It was also a nice surprise to see they offer free Wi-Fi. My husband and I went here with a Chipper Deal (similar to a Groupon, but local) on a Sunday morning. The location is in Cresent, about 6 miles form our house, and I am a total sucker for diner breakfast. We had a good twenty dollars to spend, so I was ready to eat. The place itself is a little run down, as most small town diners are. Seats were ripped and the decor was subpar. We were greeted and seated right away. I asked our server if I could sample the OJ before purchasing a glass. She didn't see amused and acted as if I asked her to commit a crime. I ended up getting the OJ. Between the two of us, we ordered ham and eggs, pork chops and eggs, pancakes, and sausage gravy and biscuits. Each portion was super large and we ended up taking a lot of it home. Throughout the meal, the server lightened up a little bit, though I can't excuse rude service. The food was as good as diner food can get. Everything came out correctly and eggs were cooked to perfection. Though the food was good, this place in no way triumphs over another favored diner. We won't be going back. Henry's Diner is a typical small town eatery. Lots of locals, plenty of unhealthy food options and a friendly waitstaff. I have now been twice, and can easily say it is a solid meal option. My first trip I had the pork tenderloin sandwich, which was just okay. The last time, I had the patty melt, which I thought was really good. I have also had their chocolate pie, (meh) and their cherry pie. (Solid) Overall a good, not great place to catch a hearty meal. read more

The service took over an hour and a half. The waitress didn't refill are water once. Even though she came back to fill our coffee. It was very dirty. The chicken fried steak I ordered was not very good at all. My buddy ordered scrambled eggs as a side. It looks like they scramble it with a fork put it on a plate and microwaved it. Scrambled eggs came out in slices. I recommend everybody never to go there waste of time and the food was not very good at all. On top of that there was no cellphone service and they said the had WIFI and it didn't work. read more

We bought 2 dinners, spent 35.00.Because one of the dinners had a baked potato, we asked for extra sour cream. When we picked up our order, ( it was to go) we were told by a large, loud waitress that we could not check the order, , and didn't need to as the A team was working on a Friday night. Guess what?? No sour cream. And when we called about it, the " assistant manager" listened to the complaint and then said, ' so we owe you a sour cream' GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Someone needs to teach these people what the late owner Henry, knew...take care of customers all the time. We won't be back. read more

I love this place! There truly is nothing finer! I eat at Henry's at least twice a week and the food is always excellent. If something isn't what I thought it was or how I wanted it, the owners and staff are always willing to make things right (which has only happened once). The prime rib is the best and you get so much food for the price! They also have amazing breakfast, patty melts and reubens and the bean soup is magnificant! The atmosphere is what you would except from a small town diner, I find it very comfortable and homey! LOVE THIS PLACE! read more
