As I looked, he said that the price of gold had just gone up and if I decided to leave without the chain, he was going to change the price as soon as I left the store. There was a ton of pressure to buy, he even joked around and said, "the door is locked" I'm not letting you leave, we both laughed. The sales pressure was a red flag but against my better judgement , I did end up purchasing a chain and bracelet, totaling $3,200. The chain I purchased was 14k gold, weighing 17.2 g. Another jeweler had a 14k, 8.7 g chain for $1800. My chain alone was $2800. So as it turns out, the joke was on me because just a few days later I found out that he over charged me by more than a thousand dollars. When I called him with my concern, he told me that it was a final sale, - even though he made it clear that he was going to increase the price on the chain as soon as I left. I purchased Monday, wanted to return 4 days later and was told it wasn't an option. Complaints filed with Yelp and BBB. Charge dispute has also been initiated.

They're just there to push metal and rocks with no genuine concern for the customer. My wife went to Royal Jewelers with her engagement ring and the ring marking the birth of our daughter. She's had them for 27 and 24 years, and she left with both rings destroyed and needing to be rebuilt from scratch. The rings were joined together and she wore them often, but this past time she wasn't able to easily remove them. She wanted them resized and expected they would remove them by cutting them, easing them off and then add a small section to make them larger. Instead, after they were cut, their senior "expert jeweler" went after them with two pairs of pliers like he was using the "Jaws of Life" and tore open a 1/2-inch gap in the ring putting sharp bends and scratches all around the ring, including hard bends in the settings and basically destroying the entire ring set. Now she's home in tears with her ring, absolutely ruined by this yahoo, and needing it to be rebuilt from scratch. To make their failure even more painful for us, the ring was originally made by a good friend of ours who has since passed away. He was an actual professional jeweler that I'm certain could have easily have managed this task. When I called to speak with this jeweler, I got a complete song and dance of "Well I had to be careful not to cut her finger with the sharp edges" and "I told her some of the set stones may come a little loose". Seriously? He should have told her "I'm going to open up your ring like a pinata and you will never wear it again." And the nonchalant attitude of not my problem "well these things can happen" I got from him on the phone was beyond the pale. He could have easily slipped a thin strip of stainless steel under the cut to protect her and eased the ring off. Or, he could have cut the ring on both the left and right side so it would come off in two pieces. This is a simple job that just needs some care and can be done in many ways. Royal could have done better with bolt cutters! So, I would say to any potential customer, Royal Jewelers may be suitable for retailing pre-manufactured items or working on costume jewelry, but for anything with sentimental or monetary value just stay away. And to Royal Jewelers, I just say this, if you cannot do a job right, then just say so and don't take the job.

He moved through them so quickly he noted two pieces were silver and nothing more, I had them reappraised knowing they were both white gold and did get confirmation that they were in fact white gold, not silver. While I'm not disappointed by the response that the pieces weren't worth much, something I already knew, I again was hoping I could scrap them and reuse the white gold (he called silver), diamond and blue topaz stones potentially, even if they were worth less than $100, thats mine to decide how to use. But because it wouldn't equate to enough to make something he thought was worth his time, he said hold on to them you can't reuse them. Had he given me more time than he did, I would have added that I was going to pay to have something remade, and given him more business, like I had in the past. I just wanted to use the old stone and metal some how if I could toward a new piece, not expecting that scrap metal to cover the cost by any means. However, when I was treated in a way that felt embarrassing, I didn't want to give them my business anymore.
