Wings (4), Mash Potatoes Coleslaw, Cornbread

I Love that Henry's Soul Cafe is right up the street from me in Oxon Hills, MD. Every time I want some Good Soul Food, and I'm in the Oxon Hill area I got to go to Henry's. The Food is Always Hot and Fresh, portions are always enough to feed two per entree, and the staff is Always Super friendly. Stopped by this evening and got the Fried Chicken Wings(4) dinner, mashed potatoes, sweetened corn, and cornbread. All I can say is the food was simply delicious like Always. Thanks again Henry's!!!

Whenever I want some delicious fried pork chops, I come here and they never disappoint! Lightly fried and well seasoned-- they give you 2 good sized chops. I typically get the mac n cheese and collard greens and have found consistently good flavor on both. That said-- this time I did try the barbecued chicken and my daughter had the beef short ribs. The barbecue sauce was good and the chicken was moist and tender. The portions are always a lot and I wish I'd gotten to eat the rest of my chicken, but my daughter finished it for me the next day. She said the short ribs were delicious. There aren't a lot of tables (more of a carryout than a dine-in type of place), yet we can always find a place to sit and eat (my food never makes it out of the door lol). A young man came in asking for food and when I offered to buy his meal, the owner stopped me and gave the man food for free. I wouldn't have mentioned it, except that the week before someone surprised my sister by buying her meal (she paid it forward, of course). Some good karma working in this place....

The food is excellent, the service is really good too I always get the catfish, Mac and cheese with greens or cabbage, doesn't take too long but is still recommend placing your order on the phone just in case they get busy, oh and did I mention The food is really tasty here!

Barely any meat on the bones for $17/$18, expect one rib that was meaty. Plate was thrown in the trash.

The ladies in the front were amazing (3 stars), but the cooks in the back need to get it together. Ordered beef ribs and I've never seen beef ribs look like this. Waited a hour for my food, a waste of my $23. Food is definitely not good, not sure if it's a location thing. Why would you sell customers this? The meat was super dry, hard, & burnt. Mac n cheese not good and greens weren't good. Barely any meat on the bones.

This place has seen its glory days. This is the 2nd location to the one on U Street in DC. For decades my family and I appreciated the location on U Street for classic comfort food such as baked chicken, fried fish and sides such as sweet potatoes, mac and cheese, potato salad and stuffing. The Oxon Hill location was promising at one point but I don't know where things went wrong. Menu items suddenly became either too salty in taste, soaked in gravy, proteins fried exceptionally hard and deprived of tender-juiciness and/or bland sides. The freshness of the food is perhaps my biggest turnoff. Considering the quality, consistency, constant sell-outs and customer service the price is not commensurate. Back in 2021 when the owner pushed their "Drummer Boy" campaign, which was the owner given customers a free fried chicken leg wrapped in a slice of loaf white bread, I experienced the restaurant play stalling games in order to keep from having to hand out free chicken. I honestly wasn't so concerned about getting a free chicken leg as much as I wanted to take part in a "feed the community" campaign that I thought was meritorious on behalf of the owner. Generally lukewarm customer service, the aforementioned customer service experience and the obvious decline in food quality is just too much for me to overlook. The one shining star that I will still consider is their sweet potato pie although it too is an inconsistent recipe. For this to be such an iconic community restaurant at one point their inconsistency and decline unfortunately keeps me from recommending this business.

. Everything was awful string beans mushy I'm so mad. I just wasted $30 on this meal.

This was the nastiest salty food nothing was good about it nothing $30 wasted they use to be so good what happened I still taste salt

    Beef Liver & Onions
    JRose B.

I went here to grab lunch and noticed how bright the lighting is throughout the cafe. Although it's small, there was enough room to sit down and wait for my order. I ordered the beef liver and onions with a side of Mac and cheese and candied yams. Cornbread was also provided. The liver was very tough to chew on but well seasoned. The macaroni and cheese tasted slightly watery and the noodles were soggy. The candied yams were a bit too sweet for me. I also ordered a slice of sweet potato pie, and that was too sweet for me (not pictured). I've had better soul food and will go elsewhere.

    Burnt hush puppies

These were not sweet and burnt. The main reason why I didn't order big. Definitely not the same..

The food came out and was to die for especially the Kimchi Crab Dip! This place was so good we decided to come back for brunch the next day. My oh my am I glad we did, we had the most amazing experience getting in as soon as they opened. From there received great service from Misha and the food came out even better than before. I cannot stress it enough that THIS IS THE BEST BRUNCH I HAVE EVER HAD. The French toast made my taste buds dance every bite. The chicken and waffles cooked to perfection and filled with such flavor. Then the Kentucky Hot Brown is the food you wouldn't expect you needed in your life but you do. The sweet buns were so good I preferred them over the Cinnabon across the street. All in all if I could rate this out of 10 it was a 20 for how good everything was. I would recommend Brunch over dinner but both still were good. I for sure will be flying from California just for this place again. Succotash staff and cooks thank you all. Especially Andrew and Misha yall are amazing!

The restaurant has a nice vibe and décor, but has too may steps for me, not good if you plan on getting lit. Our server was amazing, she was very knowledgeable and professional. Food wise: The cornbread was good, it came out pipping hot, with butter melting. The pork belly was my favorite.... Omg the Pork Belly was the star of the show---it was so sticky and sweet, the eggs and potatoes were pretty good, nothing extortionary. I was a bit skeptical about the eggs being from a carton, since I didn't see any white in the eggs. The chicken was so greasy and slightly soggy on the bottom. I don't think I'd order that again, the waffles were pretty good. I feel like the chicken and waffles are just great for show, in my opinion that dish didn't really deliver what I thought it would. I would return again, the chicken did not discourage me. It could've just been a bad day. I would recommend giving this place a try.

For appetizers, I ordered the fried oyster deviled eggs, and wow... they were so good. The little fried oysters on top of the deviled eggs were such a perfect combination. Crispy, creamy, flavorful -- definitely something I would order again without hesitation. For my entrée, I had the whole grilled branzino served over a green bean and fennel salad, and let me tell you... this was hands down one of the best branzinos I've ever had. The fish was seasoned perfectly and cooked beautifully. And that green bean and fennel salad underneath? So much better than I expected. I actually considered swapping it out, and I'm so glad I didn't because it completed the dish perfectly. Every bite was delicious. I also had a cocktail called the Endless Summer -- a tequila drink with this amazing foam on top -- and it was excellent. I asked the bartender for a recommendation, and she absolutely delivered. The bartender was friendly, attentive, and made the experience even better. I went by myself, sat at the bar, and genuinely enjoyed every minute of it. It was one of the best drinks I've had in a while--well-balanced, flavorful, and worth ordering again. Of course, I had to try the lobster roll since it's advertised as Maryland's best. It was definitely good: fresh, well-prepared, and satisfying. That said, having spent time in Maine, I've had a few lobster rolls there that I would rank higher. To be fair, I can't compare it to other lobster rolls in Maryland, so it may very well be among the best the state has to offer. Between the location, great cocktails, and solid food, The Walrus is absolutely worth a visit if you're in National Harbor. I'd happily come back, especially for another Old Man and the Sea while enjoying the view.

Throughout our entire hour.5 stay at EllaRay's, my table of 2 was probably asked at least 5 times if we needed anything - in the best way too, not the inconvenience type. The food is served hot-bar style, with someone there to present to you whatever you want. I ordered the smothered turkey, mac&chz, and cabbage, along with some red velvet cake and a mixed lemonade-tea mix that was sweeeeeet! The food itself was DELICIOUS. The smothered turkey was exactly that - see the picture of the portions too. The mac&chz was also that, cheesy, and the cabbage had a great spice to it, that I enjoyed! My friend ordered the yams, string beans and catfish - and from what he let me try (I was only interested in trying the catfish), I loved it! I think it would be something that I'd order as my side next time. For desert, I had the cake the following day and loved the fact that the icing was homemade - not heavy or thick. Now the only thing that I haven't noted was the service. Was the staff attentive and great with their recommendations, yes - but their line was just so long. Maybe I came during a rush but to get all of the delicious food offered, it did take a little longer than expected. Other that that, I loved this place! Pack your patience, and appetite!
