First the bakery has been bought by a new owner. They now go by Turquoise. The new owners are very nice. The atmosphere is very quiet. Soft music is playing. They have a menu on display outside and as soon as you walk in to the bakery, it was very clean and dimly lit. Overall pleasant experience, I've purchased the spinach feta pastry. The pastries crust was very buttery and flaky. The spinach was fresh to taste the garlic. I feel like I tasted a hint of lemon, but it was very good. The entire staff was welcoming and helpful in recommendations and the chef came out to check our satisfaction with our meal. Exceptional bread made their sandwiches even more special. Stopped by on a whim for lunch. Small seating area, would seat about 20, and only one couple was eating there. Was greeted by the chef and the host when I entered. The chef said it was a busy morning, and a lot of items were sold out, but to just let them know what I wanted and they would make it work. I took a minute to look over the menu and decided on the monte cristo sandwich and a cappuccino. The coffee was good! I looked over the case of desserts and pastries and ordered a slice of peanut butter cheesecake and an eclair. The eclair was in their day old section so it was 50% off. They kept my desserts in a box in the case so they would be chilled and ready for me when I left. The sandwich came out hot with melty cheese and a side of strawberry jelly. I was surprised they didn't have homemade jelly. It was served with a side of Lay's chips, which also surprised me. No homemade chips? No salad or slaw? I didn't realize it would come with anything and might've been happier with nothing, unless it was homemade. I ate the whole sandwich. What a serving. It was huge but so delicious. When I was ready to go, they handed me my desserts. I ate the eclair right away and the cheesecake the next day. Both tasted like refrigerated air on the outside. Once I got past the layers that are exposed to air, I didn't taste that. I think they need some baking soda in their dessert case or some sort of deodorizer. Next time, I'll try one of their fresh pastries that isn't in the cooler. I'd obviously come back for that sandwich or another hot dish. I'll pass on the desserts. They have Sunday specials and the last one was some sort of stuffed chicken. It sounded amazing. This place has been there for many years but I'd never heard of it. They could do so much better by paying attention to the little details. Homemade strawberry jam or jelly isn't hard to make and it stays for awhile! And serving some option other than chips would've been preferable- how about a little spring mix with light balsamic dressing or a side of fruit? Just my two cents. read more

They were good, I tried their spinach and cheese pastry and I also had an omelet, and I tried their turkey and cheese panini and they were all very good. They serve a slice of delicious bread with the omelet and a bag of chips with the panini. My only complaint is, that they have limited options! They have less than 10 options, I think they were like 4-5 options for the eggs and 4-5 options for the panini's. Other than that, whatever I got, I enjoyed. They also have baked goods, but they didn't look appealing enough for me to try them. read more

I loved this little family operation. It's a small, quaint, unassuming little place inside a strip mall. It may go unnoticed from the outside but they serve yummy food. I had the Cuban and my friend had the Greek panini. Both were really good. I wanted to try several things and definitely plan to go back when we're in town. Visited 3 times while on our November vacation to Daytona. This is my all time favorite bakery. Everything is made from scratch. Their " French Custard Cake " was fantastic. Looking forward to visiting on our next trip in a few months. Stopped in several times while on our annual Daytona vacation. Great as always, particularly their Sunday " special " entrees and their weekly soups. All the baked goods are top shelf and made from scratch, not from pre made ingredients from boxes and cans like today's " Pastry Chefs " use. Only one ongoing issue - they need to get out of their cramped quarters and get a larger facility. Too little seating and we sometimes see people walk in and leave when no seating available. read more

So yummy! My niece and I came in for a late lunch. We knew what we wanted before we arrived. It's easy to find in a large shopping center. It's a cute little spot with a few tables and friendly staff. I would have loved to try some soups, but Sunday was their last day before vacation time, so they weren't churning out too much to cut back on any waste. I had the Croque Madame ($8.49) Three slices of thick toasted bread, thin sliced ham, melty Swiss cheese, bechemel and an over easy egg on top. So yummy. I've never had one of these before, but this is easily a top favorite of mine now. They have a display case of sweets... so hard not to get a ton of things, but I settled on a slice of Coconut Lime Cheesecake and a Nutella Croissant to bring back home. Everything was fresh. The place is clean. He even told us it is best to come early to have more variety because they tend to sell out quickly through the day. I can see why. Everybody loves fresh, homemade goodies. Sadly, they are an hour away from home. However, I will try to make a pit stop whenever I am nearby. read more

Hubs and I were looking for a late morning cup of Joe and breakfast food and we found this place only moments away from our daughter's house. At first we were a little apprehensive about the location - in a strip mall - as I have a bias against food places in strip malls. :) BUT - Herbert's was a delightful exception! We didn't get there until almost noon, so many of the bakery items were sold out - Oh My Goodness there are so many I'd like to try! Here are my some answers to questions I would be asking if I were looking for a place to eat: Food Quality and Presentation: We shared a Ham and Cheese Omelette and a pastry and both excellent and beautifully presented. The care in the plate presentation took me by surprise because it wasn't something I expected to see in a small bakery. The regular coffee was good, too, though not the best. (We always seek a place with good coffee AND good food, and they are hard to find.) However, this coffee was satisfying. They do have an espresso machine, and make several espresso drinks, but the coffee was made in a Bunn. Next time I'll try one of their specialty drinks. Food Quantity and Cost: Even thought we shared, our omelet and pastry were more than we could eat, so A+ for quantity. I like being fully satisfied when I leave - not looking for more. The cost was very reasonable - we got out with a full cooked-to-order breakfast and coffee leaving both of us satisfied for about 15.00. So, win. Service: A+ The person who waited on us was very friendly, courteous, and attentive to our needs - but without hovering. He made an adequate amount of conversation with us and seemed genuinely interested in where we were from, etc. He was a pleasure to interact with. Ambiance: Again, A+. Like I said, strip malls... But walking into Herbert's was like stepping off the street into a French Patisserie. I was so caught up in the experience that I literally forgot were we were. When we got up to leave and walked out the door, I had a moment of surprise when I found myself in a parking lot in Florida instead of a quaint European village. Truly swept me away. Kudos. Would I go back? Absolutely. This place is a gem of a find. There are so many other menu items I would like to try. I would totally eat breakfast or lunch here again. I'm a sucker for specials, and they have them daily. I also have my eye on the House Special Grilled Cheese and the Monte Christo Stuffed French Toast! Bon Appétit!! read more

I've been wanting to try this place for a while however it is far from Ormond (25-30min). Today I went in to snag some desserts and food. The lady at the counter was incredibly rude and when I asked what some of the items were made with she snipped at me and got annoyed. She would answer with a single word like walnuts. Clearly that cream on top isn't just walnuts so I asked is it cream cheese frosting or buttercream she replied with no walnuts. At the point she was clearly not helpful I just picked some items and went on my way. She had a black shirt that said love. I will says the desserts are outstanding!
