Well I went to give this place 5 at five star review, I cannot. I have had the club and the ultimate breakfast. The ultimate breakfast was good minus the hash browns. So disappointing. They were soggy and flavorless. They had zero flavor, even when I put salt in there and mixed it around. The club sandwich, obviously had store bought meats instead of deli meats. The meat was disgusting. Stick to brass breakfast items here. read more

This is a regular breakfast so for my husband and I. He's from New Jersey and says it reminds him of the diners back home. The staff knows us by name and already know what we want before we even order! We love it. The prices are great. The service is super quick. Since they are crazy busy, they turn the tables over ridiculously fast and the food is hot and delicious. I've read through some of the negative reviews of this place, but I've never had an issue there with the food nor the service. This is a local business and with the amount of business they do, someone is bound to be unhappy at some point. The breakfast here is awesome and worth the wait if you have to stand in line. We stopped in to Herbie's Place because it has been literally taunting us for a few months now every time we drive by it, and of course - because we were hungry. First off, let me say that the place is quite clean contrary to what a few prior reviewers stated. The waitress came over and took our order fairly soon after we arrived, it was here that we learned that when my wife asked for water w/lemon and we were told all that had was lemon juice - it was not from a bottle it was in packets... the coffee was not much better, it was pretty low quality even for diner coffee and there was no actual cream, just the non-refrigerated kind; nobody ever came by and asked if we wanted refills on coffee or water either. Being from the New England and having an unhealthy fascination with biscuits we both ordered some, myself w/sausage gravy and my wife just plain, along with some sausage links which were fairly good, pancakes which were cold on the edge and not entirely cooked, french toast which came doused in butter (which I don't like, we have syrup for that), and scrambled eggs which were fairly cool when they came to us. The biscuits also tasted just like they were from Pillsbury, and considering we're (in my mind at least) in the land of biscuits that's not acceptable, we could have bought a pack of them from the super market and gotten the EXACT same biscuit. Top this off with the fact that the waitress took a good 7 minutes (we were counting by that point) to bring Tabasco sauce and I'm sure you get the picture. I've driven by this place a billion times and never stopped in, however a restaurant.com coupon convinced my husband and I to hive this place a try. Needless to say, we will never go back. You can only expect so much from a diner but even with low expectations this place misses the mark. Our waitress had a terrible attitude and even slammed things on the table. My wster glass was filthy and had food floating in it. The food lacked seasoning and was very bland and sort of stale tasting. Even the cook had his wife bring him some food while he working. First off, Herbie's is very smoky, so if you're not a fan, don't bother. I ordered a patty melt, which is supposed to be a hamburger with grilled onions with swiss on rye. What I got was a hamburger with grilled onions with a kraft single melted onto white toast. Not at all a patty melt. Very disappointing. The food was cheap, fast, and hot, but the hamburger was fast-food quality beef and like I said, so smoky I smelled like I'd sat in a bar all night after my 20 minute lunch. read more

Definitely a diner experience. Floor felt greasy under my feet, tables and seats felt sticky. Several of my fries were still frozen in the center. Our waitress was nice but seemed disinterested in being there. While the other waitresses carried on a full personal conversation behind the counter and could be heard throughout the restaurant. They talked the entire time we were there, (NONSTOP). Also I think a restaurant should not stay open when there are renovations going on...especially with an open grill/cooking area. read more

The waitress was quick and attentive the entire time despite the restaurant being pretty full. Our food came out fast and it was cooked well. I had the fried bologna, eggs, and hash browns. Great breakfasts all the time. It is not hard to find on Battleground as it is the only place with a Volkswagen Bug on the side of the building. I would give it four stars, but this restaurant doesn't have a smoke-free area. This is without a doubt one of the best diners I've ever been to. The staff was very friendly and polite. The service was so quick that I believed they knew what we wanted before we sat down! I mean literally the food was at out table in what seemed like 7 minutes! I don't remember if ever when I've went out for breakfast with 3 people and the bill was less than $35 with tax and tip. I had 3 eggs over, hash browns, 2 bacon strips, 2 sausage links, 1 sausage patty, sausage gravy, toast and sweet tea. It was a special minus the sausage gravy $1.29, extra egg $,89 and sweet tea $1.99 with refills. The other two had 2 eggs with cheese. 2 pancakes, 2 strips of bacon, grits with coffee and sweet tea. What a bargain!! And to top it off the food was delicious!! The next time I'm in Greensboro, N.C this is a must stop! I almost gave a 5, but only God is perfect. This is a great Diner!! read more

In short, this place is a Waffle House'esque restaurant but with friendlier waitresses. The food is cheap but good value for the money. The service is FAST. You order your food and it's in front of you in about 5 minutes. On a side note: They have a couple bird feeders set up outside the north end of the restaurant. We really enjoy watching the birds, squirrels and chipmunks from our table. On a funny note: The A&Y Greenway runs right behind the restaurant where you will see the occasional runner/cyclist going by. Herbie's is a sleepy little diner with fast service and great prices. The diner's layout was a little odd, every table is a booth and there's a giant bar in the back, I can see it getting crowded quickly during a lunch or dinner rush. I came here with my family the other day and we were suprised at how quick we were seated, booth turnover that day seems to be pretty steady. I ordered the ultimate breakfast, while the rest of my family got an assortment of grits, eggs, and pancakes. Our food came out really fast, less than ten minutes, and tasted like a home cooked meal. If you want solid, no frills cooking, Herbie's is definitely the place for you. read more

My hubby and I always love to eat there. However we came down from Charlotte to eat at Herbie's. The first time ever the service was horrible and the waitress didn't even smile or acknowledged us. We waited over 5 minutes and no response. People were clearly upset their order wasn't ready after waiting over 30 mins. It appears the waitresses were untrained and unreceptive. Sorry but I will never go back until they change the waitresses. My hubby and I left after waiting over 5mins to just get menus for takeout. I have been eating at Herbie's for years with my family. We love it and Herbie's has great service and food.

I've been here many times, the food is fast, greasy in a good way, and delicious, the service is always courteous, and swift. I left my phone on accident and the guy who cleans up quickly brought it out to me before I left in the car. It's so cheap to eat with me, my wife and 3 kids that you can easily leave a good tip for the well deserved staff. This is one of the few places in town where you can get in, get full and be out and about in an hour or less. They're not there to baby you though the place is fast paced and chaotic and the staff doesn't have time for that. So be efficient as a customer and don't give them any shit. Sit down shut up and eat your greasy goodness. Great for a hangover all day, and good after church service with the kids. The cooks wear gloves and they care about the food they're making. This is what a diner in America should be all about. Places like this are dying and you should go check it out and help to preserve this tradition of non corporate diners that still crush in the kitchen the old school way. read more

Let me back up... Hubs & I have been in GSO for almost 10 years. Herbie's is well known; it's a GSO landmark. Cool. We've been meaning to come here for years, and so, we finally made it. Some would argue, "what do you expect from a diner?" My argument is that it's 2016 and it just doesn't have to be purely sustenance. Smith's St Diner makes delicious, homemade & quality food. Carolina Diner isn't that bad either. Also, New York! Anywho, I got the ultimate hash browns which had veggies on it. The potatoes tasted like dishwater. Hubs got a sausage, egg & cheese sandwich & hash browns. He said he didn't expect the food to be great, but this was abysmal. I still can't believe they didn't have a real lemon slice to give me to go with water. But look, people love this place. You'll see a mix of awesome to poor reviews on Yelp. The parking lot is always full when I pass by it. We even waited in line to get in ourselves. When i went up to pay, the cashier was on the phone and yelled the total at my friend several times. When we asked why her total was so high, she handed us over to one of her co workers where she decided to catch an attitude when we were being very compliant.
