I made an appointment due to pain in tooth. They immediately say I need root canal they give me antibiotics and pain medicine and book me a month out. I didn't complain and here it is finally my appointment which I received many reminders for. I show up and they tell me i have to pay out of pocket 400$ i had not prior knowledge no bill information prior . I was not aware they charged more than Delta Dental covers which i had for many years and seen many dentist and never once had to pay out of pocket that amount. I took off work used a sick day to be told they wont perform the work without the $400 plus payment !!!!! Worst service and to top this off i saw another dentist and they showed i didn't even need root canal!!! The front desk was rude and offered no partial payment or payment plan. Everyone was great! The two secretaries up front, margarita and Mari were amazing! They were very welcoming and made me feel comfortable. I had just a regular cleaning and they have Michelle(i believe she is not a dentist yet, maybe a dental hygienist or practitioner) clean my teeth. I can tell she is definitely not experienced nor gentle. She hurts me so bad during the whole process. I went home and notice she chipped the top of my tooth. I was so mad and disappointed. I came in for my teeth cleaning on a Friday and everything was great, a bit of a wait but that's to be expected in December. I was told my daughter needed her wisdom teeth removed and they would call me to schedule after speaking with the doctor. No call until the following week, okay no problem. We schedule the appt for 2wks out. I go in with her this morning, I fill out the ppw and was asked how would I to pay for the co-pay? It's 900.00!!!! I gasped!!! I assumed everything was ran by the insurance before hand especially seeing it took days to call for scheduling. I told the lady the communication is lacking because I was completely unaware of money due, and no one spoke to me. She said sorry I assumed they told you. I told her I clld yesterday to ask what my daughter can eat, I then received a text asking how can they assist me and I told them to check the answering machine. This modern technology of texting opposed to speaking to someone over the phone isn't something I prefer. I then received another text letting me know the option of iv sedation, gas or local anesthetic. I then received a phone call asking which one would they do and the same lady that was there today said depends on what you want to pay for but sedation is free! My goodness I should have known then! Overall the office is nice, staff is okay but can work on communication a bit, and they are slow. I'm sad that today will be the last day coming here just off principle alone! This is a review I never thought I would do but I have to warn people about this Hercules Dental. I was a patient since 2011 never had a problem loved the dentists there. Unfortunately they changed the front desk people and someone named Katie doing their insurance by phone. Their front desk people are not friendly anymore treat you like your just a number it's to bad Dr Lin and the other dentists there do not know how their patients are treated by the front desk. When I went in for a cleaning they wanted to charge me $214 and I have insurance. Last time I got a cleaning I wasn't charge because according to the front desk person they used to have confirmed I have 2 FREE cleanings a year After the phone conversation with someone named Katie she blamed me for it ALL. I NEVER RECEIVED A BILL FROM THEM EVER! DR Lin would not return my calls and I was treated terribly So I finally received a bill from March 8 months later. They put on stuff from 2020 and they expect me to pay $500 for something they NEVER billed me for. A new law has passed called NO SUPRISE BILLING it is against the law what they are doing to patients. I will take them to court if I have to! I've been coming here for years and I am never disappointed. Every time I call they usually accommodate me and schedule something for me. They are open on Saturdays which is pretty convenient but try to make an appointment ahead because it does get busy. The parking lot is huge so parking is never an issue The place is clean and the staff is always very nice. They do a great job cleaning. My family comes here too and it has always been a positive experience. We gotten fillings, regular and deep cleaning and it has always been great! Michelle is wonderful! I am leaving this review as a dissatisfied client. I have been coming to this establishment for at least 4 years and I have had several disappointments. Let's start with my crown. The dentist made it too big and it would not fit into my Invisalign. Instead of them fixing the crown they told me they would make me a new Invisalign but they cut my Invisalign in the back until the new one was made. Well let's say it took 5 trips to the dentist expanding over 6 months for them to finally get my Invisalign correct and they have an orthodontist on the premises. It was a horrible experience. A more recent incident I had an appointment at 2pm for some filings replaced when I arrived at 1:45pm they took me back and placed me in the chair. The dentist came in at 2pm and gave me Novocaine and told me he would be right back! Well 45 minutes later I hear a drill going and I get up and he is working on someone else's mouth!!! I'm the next room was someone else and the dentist walked out and went over into that room!!!! Excuse me sir you have me sitting and waiting!!!! I went to the front desk to speak with someone. I spoke with Sonya and explained the situation and she said well let me check I told her I had another appointment and that I didn't not want him rushing to do the job in my mouth as he appeared to be triple booked! Sonya said okay do you want to reschedule and I said yes, she said well he is about to go and m vacation( that's why he was triple booked and was rushing) I told them to reschedule m. Now mind you at the time the price I was told to pay was $130. Fast forward to my appointment for tomorrow and now I'm have to pay $211 I think not!!! She says something about it's a new year and they re ran my insurance well it wouldn't have been a new year if he would not have triple booked at my last appointment! I was told someone would call me back and when they do I was told there is nothing they could do because I chose to leave. Really! Yes I did because he had me sitting and waiting when I had an appointment and he began working on two other people mouth how unprofessional and unsanitary!!!! I was told that per Sonya the price would be $171 because it's the insurance not them.now how in the heck am I told three different prices but it's the insurance. Yes they lost a client. Do better Sonya and the rest of the staff there! I am very dissatisfied. I called for an appointment and a lady named Marina got me on hold to check on the availability of the dates.........she got me on hold for more than 40 mins (that's after like 5 or so minutes of explaining what I've wanted)... 3 movies and 20 music videos later (lol), a different lady came on the phone and asked what do I need...really?...I've been waiting for more than 40 min for nothing? When I asked what happened to the other lady, she said the other one got busy...wait, what?...she got busy?...and just ignored me?...obviously, my business is not that important to her. Anyways, seems like this Dental Clinic's receptionist needs some seminar on the proper etiquette and how to orderly prioritize their patients and most importantly, how to value their patient's business and time - their patients, who btw are keeping their business afloat...what's more important than that?......the other lady who picked up the phone was nice and courteous...OK, I think its time to look for another dental clinic that values and respects my business....they've just lost a family of 3...all because of a lousy receptionist's service...btw, after listening for more than 40 min, I started liking your "on-hold background music"....NOT...lol Seriously, the reception/front desk is a very important factor on your clinic's image or for any business for that matter They're the first ones your patients will meet, speak to and interact. However, I think it is possible that people who are without good dental insurance they might find this series of 3 reviews helpful I went to this office for many years and was happy enough that I kept going. I also referred friends to this practice. When I no longer had coverage though an employer they did take the minimal coverage I had with my health insurance. I purchase a plan from Costco that is and HMO rather than a PPO and it covers almost all dental procedures. They would not take my new coverage period and they are very expensive. This review is coming from someone who never goes to a dentist or doctor. Have always had a fear of dentist and doctors - hate needles!!! After all the years and money wasted away on dental insurance I finally decided to get my teeth cleaned. 1st VISIT - Dr. Mathews cleaned my teeth. She was very rough, spoke loudly, was busy talking to her assistant about life than focusing on me and being smooth, gentle. Not my kind of dentist. She told me my gold crown had several holes in and needed to be replaced before a root canal was needed. That scared me because I knew it was going to "hurt." I was afraid to go back especially to see Dr. Mathews. I also had a cavity. I wanted to schedule an appt to fix the cavity. She told me she would not fix me cavity without first replacing my gold crown. My husband also had work done with Dr. Mathews. He will never go back to her again. OVER A YEAR WENT BY BEFORE I FOUND COURAGE TO SCHEDULE ANOTHER APPT. 2nd VISIT - I asked for the most gentle dentist. They gave me Dr. Michelle Pilones. I cannot say enough how amazing Dr. Pilones is!!! She replaced my gold crown and fixed my cavities. I have been back for a 3rd and 4th visit. What is best is Dr. Michelle Pilones was gentle enough, extremely professional and friendly putting all my fears at ease. At this point, I have no fear going to see her. I am so grateful to have found her because teeth maintenance is important. Overall the office is very clean, staff is friendly, professional. There are LCD TVs above each chair for your viewing, better yet....distraction. Plenty of parking. The office is right inside the main building doors for easy and quick access. My 23 year old daughter had her first cavity filled there today and I am outraged at the treatment she received. Another reviewer said they were treated like "fast food" and that's exactly what happened. They pretty much stabbed her gums to numb her with no prep or gentleness. The doctor filled her tooth, without any checking on how she was feeling throughout the session. When done, he got up and walked out without a word. My daughter had to ask were they done. There was no aftercare instructions or even a how are you feeling. Terrible. My daughter is absolutely the nicest young lady you will ever meet and she was so upset by this experience. I'd previously been going to Union Square Dental Practice in SF, which is a wonderful group, but I needed to find treatment during the weekends. It is easy to make a weekend appointment at Hercules Dental. The staff is very friendly and professional. My cleaning and x-rays went smoothly, and I was not given a sales pitch on unnecessary procedures. Parking is super easy, and the office is located right off the highway. read more

Would not recommend!!! You're treated like a fast food restaurant. Long wait time even if you have an appointment. When you're finally seated in exam chair, dentist is juggling multiple patients and not focused on you. A routine cleaning takes over an hour!!! Inexperienced dental assistant does most of work and dentist comes in, for the last few minutes of appointment, to give you quick look over. Poor customer service and experience. 7/28/2007: Two more star removed....For the privilege of having a cavity filled and then in being in PAIN for a week only to find out that it actually needs a root canal. For the privilege of showing up to my appointment to have no one else in the office appear. For the privilege of waiting an HOUR after my appointment time to speak to Dr Lee for five minutes. Update: I am taking my stars away because in the times that I have made appointments to this office, I have never been seen on time. One visit, I showed up and there was NO ONE there. On my last visit to them, my appointment started 45 minutes after the time I made it for. I had told them on the phone that I was upset about lack of respect for my time and at my next visit...instead of waiting 30 minutes for my exam, I waited almost an hour. As I left, the Office Manager, who was condescending to me asked if I would like a written estimate, and I said that I would not be returning. She just said "OK". Phuong and Michelle are still tops in my books though! I hate leaving any practice, but what I experienced there was just unacceptable and it kept getting worse! First review: It was five years at least since my last dental visit. I probably still would not have gone had I not run in to a problems. Hat in hand, I made an appointment to see a dentist. They did an assessment and gave me their recommendations. No judgements! No finger shaking about my not seeing a dentist. No wagging fingers about my current oral hygiene regime. The first thing I had done was a deep cleaning with Dr Aaron Lee, in which I was wholly and sufficiently numbed up for. Didn't bother me a bit, and I'm one of those dental-phobic people. Also helped that he spoke words of encouragement and praise along the way. My second visit was with Michelle, one of the staff's RDH's. She was so kind and gentle and a wonderful personality. Well Dr. Lin, here we are again. We missed you not being in the office on Monday. I love the beautiful work that has been performed over the years by Dr. Lin and the hygienist staff, but I must direct this review to the front office staff. Talked with Ann on 12/12, set up appoints for my two daughters, discussed payments, everything was a GO with the appointments on Monday 12/19 as well as a pre-arranged payment plan for the work that needed to be done. When we arrived, I immediately asked was Dr. Lin in today, I was told that Dr. Lin was not in. I was OK with that however, I quickly thought of the trouble that I have had in the past when Dr. Lin was not there, it was a disaster. As I quickly learned, another disaster was about to happen. I proceeded to register my daughters for their appointments, I told the clerk I had previously arranged to pay a portion of the co-pay at the appointment today. She proceeded to tell me that Ann was not in the office and she would need to check this out, FIRST MISTAKE. As I sat and waited, and waited (SECOND MISTAKE) they finally called one of my daughters for her cleaning. At this point, I haven't heard from the clerk, not sure what's going on, as we started walking to the exam room, she tells me "we are still trying to verify everything" (THIRD MISTAKE). This clerk acted as if I was just a flat out liar. Her unprofessionalism and lack of social skills made this so frustrating, I decided to leave, reminder: this is not the first time. The last time I left this office, I said I would never come back again because of the front office staff. I begin to think of the good work and professionalism of Dr. Lin and we decided to come back. But this time ,we are gone for good. It's too bad that people with "marked limitations in social functioning" ruins such a nice office. They totally messed up my billing too. They said my insurance wasn't valid and out of date, I went back home with terrible pain to talk to my insurance, and my insurance was still valid. They charged me for x ray and sent me back home, just to charge me $133 and didn't even do anything for my pain, I came back next day to get it fixed. One week past, they haven't reimbursed me for my charges that my insurance actually paid! And they just credited my account with $500 for care credit that I didn't even need to apply for! I have read the reviews on this place and it's obvious this office needs to be sued for malpractice in the way they handle their patients billing, dental procedures, and follow ups. I regret not running a back ground check before coming to this dental office and because of it I to was over charged on my bill and they almost performed an unnecessary procedure. After disputing this for a month because of delays I got my refund. It took for me to catch it and bring it to their attention and when I did they were really elusive and suspicious. Nobody wanted to explain why something so routine was way off. After getting my refund I noticed they had shorted me on the refund so I had to go back and dispute it with irene in billing once again, and once again I was left in the dark with no clear explanation is to why all this was happening and to add insult to injury she was insensitive and elusive on giving me back the rest of what was owed to me. Before the conversation ended she laughed at me and I'm still waiting for the rest of my refund. The nerve, The arrogance. This office needs to be heavily scrutinized an audited. Long story short, like many other reviewers here, I had problems with their billing and insurance department a few months ago but never bothered to take any action as I just switched dentists. I had been a customer here for a few years and I must say although Dr. Lin does excellent work, the front office and insurance claims has gone downhill ever since they moved to the front location and started getting more staff to handle different departments. Every time I visited the office in the past there seemed to be new staff almost every time... I'm not going to dwell and go into detail about my issue as it was in the past and I don't want to bring it back up again as I have moved on but I'm only posting this review as I looked this place up again after getting a postcard in the mail and was reading a lengthy negative review about a customer with major billing issues a few days ago and today, it seems that the review has gone missing along with another negative review thread which had some updates and detailed information about a issue about a lady and her children. I'm not sure what happened to those reviews, but they were quite informative.. I hope the customers didn't get bullied into removing their honest and unbiased reviews. Anyways, in my opinion this dental office is pretty good if you are clear and on top of your insurance and the billing, make sure to meet with Dr. Lin as he is excellent in his technique, he is only present 2 days per week which is unfortunate as Dr. Lin himself is an excellent dentist who is very knowledgeable and is swift in the procedures and always has the updated equipment. HOWEVER, if you are not clear on your coverage and have to rely on the staff to handle your insurance claims and billing. I wouldn't really recommend the office after my billing issue as it was a headache, but I scrounged for some money and paid it off to avoid trouble. In my opinion, I think the office staff needed some training on billing practices and other insurance policies. All in all, I really don't have a problem with Dr. Lin as he is actually a really good dentist, however the personnel who work there to me seems to bring down the image of this nice dental office. I've thoroughly gone through every single review here and it seems that many of the negative reviews are because of billing issues and are all quite recent so in actuality, this dental office is actually quite good due to Dr. Lin. Despite the billing issues, if you want a good dentist, I would recommend Dr. Lin, of course be cautious of the billing and insurance claims, just pay special attention and you will be good to go as Dr. Lin provides excellent care. Dr. Lin is excellent in complex procedures and has all of the newest equipment get the job done quickly and efficiently. When I saw the insurance claim approval receipt, I figured my co-payment was $101 instead of paid amount $155. I request refund of the excess amount over phone couple times and received no response. I requested again in 2-3 weeks and no response was received. At that point, I wanted to file my grievance to dental my insurance provider. After that they refunded the amount and declined/terminate any of my future coverage and by sending me a letter of dismissal as a punishment (without showing any valid reason) for asking valid refund of the excessively charged copay. Needed care for back molar and was set to Dr. Lin. Upon arrival he was in extended surgery so I was directed to Dr. Ballan Tuck. My fortunate luck. Dr. Tuck has a great way about him, calm, cool, collected, assertive with a smile and air of confidence. His manner, affability and personal touch are intoxicating. What a great dentist on top of his personality. I scored 100% with Dr. Tuck. Hope all of you are fortunate to be visited by Dr. Tuck or ask for him directly. What a great experience. Due to the extended hours and ease of getting in and out scheduling wise I did not feel like I established a "I know you" relationship with staff. I love this dental office. Especially my dentist Dr Francis Cruz who is completely awesome! I even enjoy dealing with the rest of the staff as well. My only issue was having access to a dental note when requested for work since I needed a root canal and the earliest the specialist was available was almost two weeks out. Which I was denied the extension because I did not ask originally for the extra days. After moving to Hercules from Emeryville I was in search of general dentist and orthodontist. I was definitely hesitant at first to switch from my original dentist however HDC definitely made the transition a smooth experience.. I've seen a couple of general dentists at HDC and they all know what they are doing, they are experienced, have great bedside manners, and advise you in the best possible way. Dr. Navaretti the orthodontist is amazing, the first thing he does is check in with you regarding any discomfort caused by your teeth and then makes sure to ask if you're happy with the way things are coming along at the end of an appointment. I love that I always get the appointment reminders via text message and have no problem scheduling or rescheduling appointments to fit my scheduling needs. Wait times never have exceeded 20 minutes for me. At times I check in with the front desk staff and am immediately taken to my exam room to get things started. I think people tend to forget that things happen, people show up late and sometimes are running behind for their scheduled appointments and in order for HDC to keep everyone happy they've got to squeeze in that late patient as well as keep the next patient happy. Just imagine you being that late patient, you'd want to be seen too now wouldn't you? I do remember getting a bill for fluoride that was used in a dental cleaning, I've never received a bill for a dental cleaning in my life, so I was definitely a bit confused. My insurance covers everything. I simply brought my bill in the next appointment spoke to the billing manager and she explained it was a simple mistake on the offices behalf and I wouldn't have to worry about it. Problem solved Fun note: It gets a bit chilly in the exam rooms at times so they provide blankets, I think it's amazing they do this. I'm one of those people that are constantly cold in air conditioned rooms so the blankets are definitely a plus!
