    Lobby

This old stone building appears to have had a facelift. The interior was lighter and brighter than expected. Seemed nice enough, but the off vibe was detected immediately upon entering the empty lobby. The hostess appeared after a few minutes and told us there would be a ten minute wait. It made no sense when ten minutes later we were led to a table at the back of the nearly empty dining room. Right next to a table occupied by a large family. A 6 or 7 year old boy was flinging his jacket in the air trying to land it on one of the beams. The adults seemed to think his efforts were in vain and were ignoring him, so two more joined in the fun. The hostess had already abandoned us. Not wanting that jacket to land on my dinner, I looked at my partner and loudly said " Hell no". A waiter caught my eye and waved us to another table. It was five or ten more minutes before the other server showed up. Partner went with a cheesesteak and I ordered the turkey and Brie. After waiting 20 minutes , I start counting. Besides us and the large family, there were two tables getting their take out containers and us three waiting for food. Seemed like a light load for two servers, a hostess and busser. The wait for the table and easy food orders seemed a bit much. So more than half hour after ordering, our food arrives. Partner said his cheesesteak was surprisingly good. Neither of us like the old bay on the chips. My fries were okay. The turkey was the funky deli kind with a rind. The edges, got a little dried out. On the grill or under the hot light. Either way not a good thing.

This is a $5 side of asparagus. Embarrassing! Also the roast beef dip sandwich ordered was supposed to come with au jus. It did not. Will not be ordering takeout here again.

Food: overpriced mediocre Service: variable, bar service is best option. Ambiance: cold and old, needs a good cleaning. Bathrooms are filthy, a good indicator of what you would probably find in the kitchen. Bottom line: better value options in the area, I would pass on the Heritage.

Clair's ended up being my absolute favorite, to the point that after I made my round sampling what everyone had to offer, I made my way back to Clair's tent three more times. They got my vote, and apparently enough other votes to win people's choice in the tournament. Soon thereafter, George and I took my wife to Clair's restaurant. We've now gone back so many times that we are practically on a first name basis with the servers. I have absolutely loved almost everything I've had from there. Even the stuff I wasn't as fond of was still good. My only major gripe is that a lot of the booths are not equipped to handle someone of my girth, and it's often a tight squeeze to get into them. I can understand though, they need to make them that small to maximize the space and fit in as many people in as they can, because the lines can sometimes go out the door. Still, I'm super happy we discovered this restaurant, and it's an absolute asset to the community. I hope they will be in the chili cook-off next year so I can see them win again.

The other servers also kept staring at us which was really weird... The booths were ripped up and in desperate need of replacement and the bathroom was dirty. Yuck. Now on to the food ... my daughter enjoyed her egg combo. I had eggs as well, and they were fine, but the breakfast potatoes were disgusting. My food was also cold. My husband and his friend thought their food was ok. I would not return. Prices are good though.

Smörgåsbord (noun) is a traditional Swedish buffet-style meal featuring a wide array offering a…read morevariety of foods and dishes as hors d'oeuvres, hot and cold meats, smoked and pickled fish, cheeses, and salads. This location is certainly gargantuan size for dinning hall, buffet counters and queuing for payment and waiting for table. The line moves moderately for payment and waiting for a table. There are some benches available for customers who are mobility impaired unable to stand for long times. Senior citizen and children discounts are available. My party experienced authentic Pennsylvania Dutch cooking. It was an experience with an open-mind without judgment. Dinner prices for one adult range $23.99 to $33.99 depending on the time of day, meal, and day of the week. Tax and a 12% service fee are additional, but beverages and desserts are included. Shady Maple Smorgasbord offers a 20% discount coupon for their nearby gift shop during meal payment. This 20% discount coupon, my party gladly utilized which is a very good marketing promotion to lure customers. Restroom facilities are large with a restroom lounge. The facilities' sink is very modern as it is an "all-in-one" sink golden faucet mechanism: L (soap), middle (water), R (hand dryer). Ergo, no excess soap is dripped on the sink counter for clean-up and no water will be spilled or splattered on the floor. I have never seen this modern sink faucet. I think it is a modern convenience innovation for progress with technology always improving. The food quality is good and the selection is gargantuan. I wished there were more meat opinions as Ribeye which contains the most flavorful cut of beef. Hanger steak is my favorite. I also wished for more seafood opinions as shrimp, salmon, Tilapia or striped bass fishes. The vegetables were a good selection. I like the baby carrots which were cooked soft and fresh. I wished for Caesar salad lettuce as my default vegetable, but iceberg lettuce was substituted. I was hoping for ice cream as dessert, but to no avail. Nota Bene: Shady Maple Smorgasbord is family oriented style, ergo do not expect any alcohol. Lemonade, root beer, cola, soda, ice tea, coffee, hot tea, cold water and hot water are abundantly available as beverages. Disappointedly there is no ginger ale soda available as a beverage option which would greatly reduce my motion sickness of being in a car for four continuous hours on the road driving. Shady Maple Smorgasbord also has a gargantuan gift shop adjacent on the grounds. This gift shop is old school traditional where tourists and non-Pennsylvanians (like myself) can purchase key chains, post cards, magnets, and T-shirts.

AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE RIPPED OFF…read more If I could give this place all zero stars, I would. We've come here before, and the prices were far cheaper and the food was far better. This morning, at 10:20, we came in for breakfast. We got our food and we ate for about 15 minutes talking and enjoying breakfast. By the time we went up for more food, the one section had already switched to lunch, and the other section was empty with all the food on the cart. Since the breakfast food was being taken away, we got more food but from the lunch section since that all that was left. However, our waitress came over a few minutes later and told us we would be charged for lunch prices, which is $7 more per person. We explained that we came in during breakfast and mostly had breakfast food, and the only reason we took from the lunch menu was because all the breakfast food had been taken away. The waitress tried to say that since we took lunch items that we had to be charged the lunch prices, even though she hadn't said anything when we got there. Another woman, who I'm assuming was the manager came over, told us that we would have to be charged the lunch prices. We then explained the situation again. She proceeded to tell us that the breakfast food had just been put on the carts and we could've just taken from there. EXCUSE ME? I work in a restaurant. That is totally unacceptable and unsanitary. Who goes to a buffet and takes food that is put on a cart? That's disgusting and should be reported. No wonder this place was so empty. They're charging Shady Maples prices with quality of food that wouldn't even compete against Golden Corral's. I will never come back here again and recommend to everyone that I know to do the same. This place is terrible, and so overpriced. We overpaid and left still hungry.

Country diner feel, nothing spectacular, you feel like you are home. You can see the regulars coming through and that's always a good sign. Our server seemed both rushed and annoyed in general. Like I said, I don't know if it's because they were short handed. We never got any coffee or water refills and it seemed like the order when it came out was a struggle. We had ordered hashbrowns for my daughter and they never came. The food is what you would expect from a diner vibe. Some really exceptional, some not so much. The pancakes were obviously a selling point, my wife's waffle was delicious. The sausage and scrapple were great for this kind of establishment. Bacon was stale and cold. The sunny eggs were actually cooked perfectly, which I never expect from anywhere, so kudos on that. The fresh fruit selection was bananas and thawed frozen blueberries. So you get what you get. Overall, stick to the pancakes, sausage and scrapple, steer clear of any fresh fruit options and don't expect much from the service if you aren't a regular. I'd still go back and try other menu options.
