No cold water. Told me it was thermostat. Told me it would be 560 to replace thermostat and they didnt have part in stock but did try to sell me a replacement water heater. I went to hw store, bought a t-stat since they are universal for $30 and fixed it myself. 100% sure they have a thermostat on their truck. Beware. read more

Had another hvac company out to get me some heat. He only fix it with a band aid and the heat went out again the next month. So this time I called Herman Allen., they came right out and diagnosed the problem however I needed a part that had to be ordered , as soon as it came in Tony Jordan came right over and installed it. Faucet leaking water under house. They said it was going down through the divertor on the tub/shower faucet. So they put silicone caulking to stop up the hole,said it would cure in 30 minutes . I waited 24 hours to make sure it was dry. next night went to take shower and the hole where the water was leaking reappeared. Was charged $225.00 dollars for caulking and the job not done right!! Called next day left messages and left message on their website saying not happy.No return calls!!! This sad as I am a senior woman with limited income and I feel they stiffed me!!! I will never use them or recommend Herman Allen to anyone!!! read more

Excellent service from James and Cameron, plumbers with Herman Allen PH&C, today. They were professional, knowledgeable, and personable.

I requested a new unit from Herman Allen in September 2023. There was not enough airflow flow for the system to work. Then they had to modify the carrier unit and add another filter because the factory installed air conditioning unit was incorrectly engineered. I now have 2 filters, with two different sizes. Then after the labor warranty ran out, The mother board and the pressure switch were faulty. Carrier has a parts only warranty, and they have to take the compressor apart in order to place the valve. My costs to fix this are $149 for the service call, $500 for the board and $1200 for the pressure valve. Herman Allen stated that after I pay them the system may not work. They also believe the motherboard and valves were placed incorrectly from the Carrier factory overseas. i would not recommend Carrier nor Herman Allen read more

I've called them out repeatedly for the last 2 years to fix our warehouse heaters. All they do is keep coming out and replace parts that don't fix the problems. Each tech they send out tells me it's a different issue and never get the units working, and I've had to call after being billed to tell them they're still not working. Also, they had to come out twice to fix our AC. One tech changes some parts, second tech comes out and says it's the transformer. Their "we're not the big guy commercial" - well they charge like one and can't troubleshoot the problems that result in working units. Maybe have to call one of the "big guys" at this point. read more

Ripped off. I was hopeful of having a good experience, since a friend referred me to this company, but that didn't happen. My A/C fan was constantly running, but not cooling. They came out and said it needed a capacitor, and that it would be $405. I agreed, thinking it was an expensive part and he needed a good amount of time to do the job. It took 45 minutes tops (he also cleaned the screen on the sides and checked the filter "for free".). He didn't leave me with a receipt, so I asked for one, and he emailed it right away. It was NOT itemized, and so there was no way to know how much they charged/hr., or how much the part was. I looked up the part online, and guess what...about $10. So BUYER BEWARE. When I called the office for information about hourly costs and the part cost, she said what another reviewer reported upon his call: that there is a flat fee, etc. Oh, and there's a $15 charge for their gas, since prices are so high, and to keep their "fleet mobile and ready to serve." The only positive part is that my AC is working, and the technician was very nice, but I WILL NOT BE USING THIS COMPANY AGAIN. read more

Purchased a brand new heat pump 5 years ago from another company, never had any issues. Paid $249 for the maintenance plus plan with a Tech coming out Thursday for a tune up. Within 48 hours my entire system crashed. Called their office and a Tech came out and said compressor and fan were overheated, but didn't know why and to leave it off until the next day, then gave me an approx $350 bill for him to come out. Capital City Cooling came out the following day and saw two wires had been switched on my capacitor, switched them back, and my system was back to normal. Credit to HA's manager, he apologized and is providing total amount I spent back to me which is why I bumped my review from 1 to 3. read more

The guys they sent out were pretty rough and then asked for a mandatory payment "allegedly" which had never been disclosed up to that point. Needless to say I went with another plumber. Would give NO stars if that was possible. Here to do a very small job (disconnect under sink plumbing and take out disposal and disconnect gas cook top and cap it off so that granite could go in.) When I called I was told cost would be $125 or less. Got a bill for $160! This after they took the disposal with them and it had to be brought back AND they could not come back to reinstall plumbing for 5 days, leaving me without a kitchen to use during that time. I called in another plumber and for less than 1/2 that price he came and in 15 min reinstalled it all. I called to say bring back the disposal. My guess - they would have kept it and charged me the $160. SHAME on them. BTW it took them 15 min to do the job and they were 3 hours late. read more

Needed washer hook ups moved one room over (where a line already existed) and a spigot replaced. Was quoted $1100. They (2 men) showed up 8:45am and was done by 12:30, but they also had to leave for parts they didn't have and took at least one smoke break. So roughly 3 hours of work, but the quote amount was for 6 hours of estimated labor. The stackable washer dryer combo was installed 8 inches left of where I asked which (with the room set up the way it was) blocked the 45 degree angle to get to the back door. I asked if they could move it, to which they said they could but didn't advise it structurally (I felt like they didn't want to, I'm not an expert, but I HAD already paid them)..... and that if they did move it, it would take a few more hours (the other 3 hours I paid for). It was clear the plumber had conveniently MANY reasons not to do it. (IOW Didn't want to do it) ...said if I had seen it sooner he would have done it right the first time he came out. Manager just gave in to the plumber. I'm going to to have to call someone else to fix it. All in all, I felt I over paid and didn't quite get what I asked. They also tore a huge piece of drywall behind the unit to put in the hook ups. I was told by them that it's standard procedure but now I have a relatively large drywall project to attend to. On several occasions Jeff has continued to provide quality service. He shows up on time, is a very clean person,comfortable around pets, always puts on shoe protection covers before coming into the house. He explains thoroughly the problem and cost and what is needed to repair. He cleans up after the job well. The front office person Melissa is great and is very responsive to my needs. The cost of service is fair and reasonable. You can't go wrong with Herman Allen. On a previous occasion They also diagnosed a simple AC/ heat vent problem that was serious and the fix was a simple adjustment. Several other companies had missed this previously. Today's project was a total plumbing hardware and fixture replacement in my guest bath as part of a minor facelift remodel. It's looking great! read more

It wasn't long ago that I wrote a favorable review on Herman Allen (Bantam's Plumbing) due to plumbing work by Brandon of the company. So impressed that I called them again on 1/2/18 to take a look at a frozen pipe pipe in my rental house and they showed on the Sunday 1/3 a bit before the promised time to find the pipe had thawed so nothing to do. Paid $192.50 for the call which was no problem. Still impressed at the showing up as promised and wanting to give them by work I called them the next week to tune up my oil furnace at my factory. For what ever reason (I think lack of experience) the young guy without touching anything suggested right away that the furnace was unsafe and that it needed replaced. I'm sure the furnace was a bit intimidating as it is a 1954 Navy furnace that I bought (nbu)10 years ago and no doubt they had never seen this monster before. They don't build them like this today. Instead of buying a new furnace as they suggested I called the company I have always used and they replaced the transformer and did the tune up as I requested Allen do and everything is back to new condition again. I guess a vehicle would look unsafe with bald tires and leaking exhaust but you don't replace it, you make repairs and fix it. No more heating work for them. Ted M read more

In purchasing a house my home inspector busted a water line. He called multiple people for an emergency service until he could find someone that could come that day. Herman W. Allen tried to come out 2 days later. After he told them the work was done day of, as he had requested, they tried to bill him for a trip charge. He had not given them his business information so they sent the bill to my address, but in his name, which I received after I moved into the home. I emailed them, and still they resent the bill "past due." Finally I called to clear up the situation and even gave them his contact information so they would stop sending me the bill. A few months later I received a collections notice from a collections agency but WITH MY NAME ADDED. This was an incredibly shady business practice done with very obvious intent to try to collect money. I would not recommend this company even to my worst enemy. read more
