I e come to this store in particular a couple of times before, and I e always found that they have the best prices for just about any type of beer and wine. In fact, the prices are much lower than any convenience store price. This is especially true for the beer case prices. We picked-up a case of Coors and a case of Heineken for at least 20% less than what we would normally pay at a grocery store. The selection here is also much more robust than anywhere else. They even have a cigar section of all things! I like to shop here especially for those special occasions. They always have had everything in stock that I need.

The app is terrific, the selection is stellar. The store is amazing when you use the app. I went…read moreonce a few months earlier and the young guy who was helping me was superb. He said he came from a family of wine makers and was really knowledgeable and helpful. So last night when I had to buy a specific selection of beers and I found it at total wine, I was really excited to go . Unfortunately, maybe because I was late on a Friday night and they hated their jobs, the two ladies at the checkout aisles could not have been ruder if they tried. I had to remind myself that a rude person at a check out counter working on a Friday night instead of drinking beer with friends is really just a first world problem.

This is the place to go if you're looking for some quality without breaking the bank. There was a man behind the counter who asked a couple of times if he could help us and we kept saying, "no, thank you were just looking around." After perusing the shop for about 10 minutes reading labels and talking about what we might buy the man asked us again. I finally said, "we're not looking for anything in particular, just thinking about what we want to have at home to make drinks". His reply? "Well I have a lot of duties that I can't do while you're here. You've been here for 10 minutes and I have things to do." Not only were his words rude, but his tone was dismissive and annoyed. I am seriously disappointed, especially since there were things that we were actually thinking of getting. I get that you're 25 minutes away from closing time on a Friday, but as someone who has worked in customer service, I would have been fired for saying something like that.

I've experienced nothing but constant appearance-based discrimination at Total Wine. I own a…read moresuccessful construction company and am constantly dismissed when asking for help and eyed-down by the managers at the booth when walking in, and even some cashiers. Nicholas/Nick was particularly rude. He nearly barked at me to go to another lane when he saw that I had a "create-your-own-six-pack" of beer that he presumably thought was too tedious to have to individually scan. There was no cashier at the other "open" register and I told him that, but he rudely insisted that the register was, in fact, open, but that there was just no one there to assist me! What helpful pedantry, Nicholas! Bravo! I don't dress particularly poorly or wear dirty clothes, either: usually nice jeans and a hoodie or a flannel. I never look like I'm fresh off of a job site. Basically, no different than anyone else running errands at Target or HomeGoods, next door. At any rate, I've shopped here periodically over the last twelve years or so, and it's clear that if you don't dress like a milquetoast there to buy a case of wine (nothing against wine, but you know exactly the sort of moneyed-looking stereotype I'm talking about) they dismiss you, ignore you, watch you as if you're going to shoplift as you walk the aisles or argue with you if you ask a question that betrays the fact that you're not a total wine snob (pun intended). Once, I had the gall to ask where the vermouth was about a year ago, and the sales associate snobbishly told me that it was "over near the reds, where we always keep it, OBVIOUSLY!" in an incredibly condescending tone. That said, some of the cashiers (red polos) are perfectly nice, but a lot of the white-shirts (managers and/or sales associates, I suppose) are the ones who are quite snobby and dismissive. The disconcerting thing is that if you look back through the reviews of this location and others in the area, there's a consistent stream of negative reviews complaining about similar appearance-based discrimination and mistreatment. They clearly are trained to seek out and help people who look a certain way, who are inclined to spend more money on wine, and not beer. In essence, if you don't look like you have both the money and inclination to purchase a few cases of vintage Bourdeaux, don't bother attempting to shop there, or God forbid, ask for help finding something or getting rung up. I guess I've just bought my last six-pack from "Total & Complete Snobbery & More!". Seems like they don't want beer money and have a dress code to enter their incredibly classy suburban strip mall taupe-colored "wine boutique" with all the ambience of a small ethnic corner grocery, anyways. I certainly wouldn't judge anyone if I slung booze in such surroundings, especially if I was doing it while wearing a cheap white dress shirt a size too large and a chunky dad tie, either.

It's a fascinating place, as if Trader Joe's and a mom-and-pop vintage grocery store merged. I imagine their buyer prowls Europe for obscure items and random stuff. The prices are excellent. I would not say it is the equivalent of a supermarket where you can get everything you need for the refrigerator and pantry. It's more of a place to discover treats. They also sell products that are not food and drink, and that also is weird, not systematic. We do regard it as the best place for wine. My wife also wondered if they had a pharmacy. We had been running around town, stopping at two places that are part of national chains. One was too busy and said come back tomorrow, another said they no longer carried the prescription. It was for our dog. Well, they stocked it -- they indicated they only have dog drugs if they also are human drugs (and I am always surprised how much overlap there is), and this specific pill fell in that category. So we were all set. My wife shopped for our other needs, such as a bottle of Pinot Noir to bring to a Christmas supper. Although I am not someone who shops to shop, if I were forced to browse the aisles here I would not complain, because there are always surprises.
