    Meatball sub
    John K.

Wonderful little sandwich shop tucked in a nook on 12th Street. Easy to miss if you're not looking for it, but what a gem when you are. The counter has a good selection of Italian meats and cheeses, and single portion foods like small lasagnas to take home and cook. I jones for a good meatball sub sometimes, and figured this was a good candidate to try out. Sooo right. Absolutely delicious homemade bread, and the meatballs were perfect. Also highly recommend the Porchetta sandwich with cooked zucchini. Along with a small but nice selection of wines, and meat/cheese platters for parties, this little place really represents more than its size implies.

My first time here! I live close enough, but honestly just forget it's here. It's a fantastic Italian deli and I'll be coming back! I came for fresh mozzarella and a variety of cured meats for a sandwich. I left with hot sopressata, hot capicola, and Genova salami, fresh mozzarella, and artichoke hearts. Everything was fantastic, but the marinated artichoke hearts were really the standout! It wasn't super acidic and tangy like I'm used to. It was mildly flavored and tender--yum! There were some other pickled items, plenty of Italian groceries, and some other cheeses. Please note parmigiano reggiano is a solid $15/lb! As of this review, Trader Joe's is selling the same imported cheese for $17/lb--this alone is a significant win. They serve sandwiches and some other deli items. Also plenty of desserts from cakes, frozen treats, and cannolli. Haven't had any of those, but I'll give it a go at some point.

Great place to stop in for lunch! It's strictly deli style so there is not any seating but our food was ready very fast. Very authentic Italian feel. We ordered the Italian and the chicken parmesan sandwiches. We were very impressed by the quality of the bread and other ingredients used. Very fresh and filling. We also purchased some cannoli which were some of the best shells we have had.

Definition of a hidden gem! Their sandwiches, gelato (we've tried almost all the flavors by now), and imported Italian goods are truly unmatched in the city. We found out about it through Menomale (just down the street) and now have a new go-to lunch spot in the neighborhood. Service is quick and flavor is so so fresh. Check it out!!

You're cooking pasta and realize you have no bread. It's Friday, you need bread and wine. Who you're gonna call? SALUMERIA!!! Great bread, cheese and dessert. Don't sleep On it!

Absolutely DELICIOUS sandwiches and pizzas! The bread is the star of the show - best I've ever had! We had the meatball sandwich and the sopressata sandwich - would get both again!

Wow!!! This place is the real deal. Homemade bread, fresh sliced high quality meats, and melt in your mouth mozzarella.. it doesn't get much better than this. Every time I travel, I look for a great Italian deli. I am so excited I found this place! I am not completely clear about what to call it, as the signage says something like "pizza and ice cream", but you won't miss it if you look for the gelato window facing the street. The staff (who sounded Italian) recommended I eat at a nearby park, and it was a wonderful place to enjoy my food (there are no tables in the store). I ordered 2 sandwiches, because I couldn't decide. One was prosciutto/mozz/basil/evoo, and it was ok. But the star of the show was the bufala - buffalo mozz/salami/roasted red peppers. Absolutely incredible. The bread, just wow! And the cheese was absolutely top notch also. I can't wait to try the house made pasta the next time I'm in town! These sandwiches literally made my week. Love, love, love this place!!!

If you miss Europe, take the Metro to Brookland and walk to Salumeria. This small Italian deli will transport you back to Rome. The cured meats hanging from the ceiling, the wine on the shelves, and the deli menu will have you coming back for more. It's owned by nearby Menomale, a top rated pizzeria, and open for lunch and dinner. They bake Italian pastries (canoles, brownies, etc), pasta salads and an array of sandwiches. Their top seller "The Italian" is excellent coming with several meats on a hard Italian sub. Their crudo sandwich for $9.50 is really good. Note: Their sandwiches don't have as much meat on them compared to other delis like Seventh Hill or Mangialardo's. The staff are super helpful, friendly, and honest. The worker told me what was good and what wasn't the best, which is helpful and makes me trust her. If you want a good deli, venture up to Brookland, grab a sandwich, and wander the beautiful streets of Brookland.

    Beautiful prosciutto sandwich

I wish I could give them 5 stars. If I had to recommend 1 deli in DC this would be it. This is an amazing traditional deli. I felt like a kid in a candy shop with the cannolis, traditional Italian beverages, and amazing menu. The service was great and I was recommended the prosciutto which was hand cut in front of me. 10/10, I'm going to come back and have everything on the menu.

Cozy and clean, this "autentico" Italian deli (one of the co-proprietors is a native of Italy) gets a nod from me for effort and quality. Walk in this place and Europe abounds on the shelves. A relative newcomer in the deli business, it's a logical extension of Menomale, the pizzeria found a few doors away and owned by the same husband-wife team who manage this business. Both are hands-on and it shows positively. Salumeria bakes its own bread and this makes their sandwiches a cut above other competitors in the neighborhood. The selection of sammies is limited, but respectable. The refrigerated case has a variety of meats, cheeses and other prepared foods. I appreciate the cerignola olives--fat, unblemished, solid. The dry goods, sweets and booze are selectively chosen and well done. The tiramisu is made in Scilly (it's frozen and shipped here) and is a favorite of mine. While the majority of items come from Italy, there are products from other Western and Eastern European nations too. "Continuate cosi", Maria and Ettore.

Salumeria 2703 is probably the cutest little Italian market that I've ever seen! Located in the Brookland 'hood, this market is owned by Menomale owners, Ettore and Maria Rusciano. The cases hold marinated and roasted veggies (such as oyster mushrooms, zucchini, eggplant, and olives), cold cuts, cheeses (they also have housemade mozzarella), housemade pastas, and housemade sauces (marinara, alfredo, and pesto). There are also shelves that have imported olive oil, cookies, flour, jams, vinegar, and beverages. Baskets are available to place items for purchase. When we walked in, there was freshly-baked bread, so we had to get one of those (make sure you consume this right away; sop it with the lasagna sauce!). We also purchased two bags of the housemade fettuccine, the housemade alfredo sauce, and the housemade lasagnas (meat and spinach). The lasagnas are quick to heat, as it's just at 375 and 20 minutes (I cooked it longer for 40 minutes) - both were super delicious, as they were creamy, perfect sheets of lasagna pasta, seasoned sausages, and yummy spinach and ricotta combo! I wished that they served to-order sammies or pasta meals, but note that this place is just for you to stop-by after work to grab a few things to whip up a good meal at home. There isn't much room to move around as it is a small market, but it's adorable to look around. I'd love to come back and pick-up some of their meats and cheeses, as well as try out their pesto sauce. Limited free parking along 12th. +local Italian market +delicious to-go lasagnas! +meats, cheeses, and housemade pastas and sauces +housemade mozzarella available +limited free parking along 12th

Really fantastic Italian deli. Delicious and fresh! The deli is super clean and cute. Love this place! (Their gelato and mozzarella are the real deal.) great staff too!!!

Fantastico! A quaint little Italian deli in Brookland next to some of the best pizza in the city. I had seen this place some time ago (years now I think), but never really bothered to visit. I naturally went for one of their sandwiches. After a single bite I knew this sandwich was outstanding. Freshly made bread onsite with crispy exterior and chewy interior. Quality ingredients. It sings of goodness. Have yourself one too, you won't be disappointed.

One $10 pepperoni stick... is this the wagyu equivalent for cured pork???

They operate a deli counter in the front and a bar / speakeasy in the back. You can rent out the bar space for private events. Last night, we had the space (and a bartender!) to ourselves, along with 3-4 different types of sandwiches. There is something SPECIAL about their seeded Italian bread. The perfect flakiness and texture. I enjoyed the chicken fontina and Italian. The caprese was my least favorite--not sure if they use a balsamic or what, but the flavor wasn't coming through. Before I left, I decided to order a large chicken cheesesteak to take home for lunch the next day. It was a bit of a risk to order a hot sandwich that I would have in the fridge overnight but I heated it up in our air fryer/toaster oven for all of 10 mins and the bread was good (not soggy) and the sandwich itself was delicious. I enjoyed it so much, I didn't stop to take a photo until the last bite :) It's a decent size sandwich--I ate half for lunch (along with my own chips and veggies) and have another half for tomorrow so while it's not cheap, I think it's reasonable.

We also really appreciated the friendly service and staff members we came across during our time there. The first day I ordered an everything bagel with veggies and cream cheese -- I took out the bacon and the price of the sandwich decreased by $3. The second time I ordered an egg and cheese everything bagel with avocado and latke. The latke was just okay and didn't add much to my sandwich. The everything bagels were really good as well with plenty of seasoning but I think they were a little tougher for our taste (a perfect bagel would be crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, but the inside was a little tough and the outside wasn't crispy). For a coffee, two bagels, tax and tip, we paid about $32, so they are a bit on the pricier side. But the staff are very kind to the community. The place gets super busy around 9 am, so we learned to just order online the next time and our food was ready within 15 minutes. Other people and us on the first day were waiting over 20 minutes otherwise for our food, which I know can be frustrating. Very popular bagel shop.
