I found Hero Air via Yelp. I contacted the company on the web and requested a quote to repair my furnace. I received a response to my request within 24 hours. I was quoted a diagnostic fee of $85.00. Since I am 9-5er (and sometimes later) they were very accommodating when it came to working around my schedule. Once the time had been scheduled I immediately received an emailed confirmation. I also received a reminder email 24 hours before my appointment. My service person was Jose, he was prompt, kind and ready to work. Jose was very knowledgeable and professional. He was able to diagnosis and fix my furnace. I have been a homeowner for over 40 years and during this time have had some pretty challenging experiences (upselling/overpricing) with HVAC companies. I am going to leave the original review because for a jittery person like myself it would be helpful. My ultimate thoughts...gruff? Yes. Accountability, also yes. It's a small business, it means juggling huge responsibilities, that probably warrants a little gruffness. But here's a professional who is really determined to try and make things right. That's rather remarkable. The original review is in the next paragraph just for other sensitive souls out there. I'm going to be a bit of a Karen here because I didn't get to the point of hiring Hero Air; but this is information I would have really liked to have had before making the call. I called the number listed and was immediately redirected by an automated answering service. It was really weird and I wondered why their wasn't an answering service or receptionist. To be fair, a male human immediately answered. However, I can only describe them as gruff and they instantly made me feel that I was being a nuisance simply for ringing the line. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and pressed on any way. I appreciate that I'm in an odd area of my city so before I wasted their time, I gave them my general area and inquired if they provided service there. I got a gruff and unintelligible response. I wonder now if the person was eating? I think they said that they did not serve my area which is understandable but my perception of the interaction was that the person who answered my inquiry was rude . To be fair, I just hung up, but in my defense I decided that I was afraid to have a person that was giving rude, gruff energy like that in my home. I looked at their reviews and services before I called. I thought they would be helpful based on what I had seen. I need to update my review from the 5 stars I gave HERO before to the 5 stars I am giving them now. . A while ago, I entered into a service agreement with a different HVAC company, which meant they were going to do seasonal inspections of my furnace/AC. They started calling in January to come out and really pestered me to set a time. I was trying to figure out why, since they had already been paid for the inspection through the service agreement. Now I understand: when he got here, the service man inspected my furnace and proceeded to tell me that it was emitting carbon monoxide at dangerously high levels, so much that he turned off the furnace and slapped "Danger" stickers all over it. I was terrified because I have family and my grandchildren here all the time. He told me he could fix it for $3500 but I had to agree to the repair immediately THAT DAY. He also asked if I "had a husband around who could take a look at it". . It didn't make sense to me because the furnace is pretty new. Also, I've got a carbon monoxide detector and didn't have any alarm going off. I trusted my judgment, thank goodness, and called for a second opinion from Hero, who came immediately and did a thorough inspection and showed me normal CO levels. I will never use anyone but HERO. For a couple of weeks, our furnace was acting up and blowing cool air. I had another larger company out multiple times to check it out. Each time they got it going, but the fixes never lasted more than two days. So I gave up on them, and landed on Vladi and Hero Air after reading everyone else's reviews. Vladi responded immediately, and was at our place within a couple hours. He quickly diagnosed the problem, found the part he needed, and had everything up and running the same afternoon. Part of the fix, however, involved a smart thermostat that was also on the fritz. No problem, right? Well, after swapping out the thermostats, I still needed to go get a new one. Of course, being NOT an electrician I managed to screw that up. So I called Vladi again. Again he got back to me immediately, and within 10 minutes, he had everything fixed and installed. Less than 24 hours after requesting an evaluation of our not so cool a/c, the repair was completed for a very reasonable price. Refrigerant is getting more expensive, but Hero cost for r-22 was significantly below Besco (220!) and the technician was a true professional. He recommended a maintenance which I had him do, and he waived the diagnostic fee. he identified the problem, contacted the furnace technical support, and explained clearly with reference to the support manual that we had an install problem with our new construction. He explained the workaround and offered to supply me with an explanation for our builder, which is my next contact. Along the way he recommended a plumber for another issue, and alerted me to a third non-HVAC install issue to have the plumber work on. The furnace that had been in my condo when I moved in finally gave out. I had Hero Air come in to replace it with a new furnace. They provided a couple options - I picked one and they installed it. It came included with a warranty. And then recently I had a gas leak in my house. I had thought that it might have something to do with the furnace so I called Hero Air. They recommended that I reach out to People's Gas to check for leaks. As it turned out the leak was actually in my fireplace. However, throughout the whole process Hero Air kept checking in to make sure everything was ok and actually came out to double check that there was no issue with my furnace after the fireplace leak was fixed. Our air conditioner had stopped working on a Saturday afternoon on one of the hottest days here in Chicago. It stayed at a solid 87° in our house into that evening, overnight, and into the morning.
