I got my lasik procedure done here. I was apprehensive, mostly because anything to do with my eyes kind of freaked me out. I went under a free consolation. The nurses/assistants were very nice and they answered any questions I had. Then I met Dr. Herschel and he was very nice and understanding. He explained all that would happen, how everything works, how long recovery will be, everything. So, I agreed and start the process. I got LASIK done with Dr. Herschel and I could not have had a better experience with him and his staff. From the beginning the office felt like home, it is so nice, clean, and cozy. The staff knew me by name after my first visit and treated me like a friend, I felt super comfortable with all of them which made my surgery not so nerve-wracking. They really made me feel prepared. I have dry eyes so they set me up with a two week dry eye regimen beforehand to make sure my eyes would not be uncomfortably dry after the surgery, and it was included in the cost, no up charge or add ons. TL;DR - Best decision I've made, both getting LASIK and choosing Herschel LASIK. Dr. Herschel and his team were amazing. As someone that deals with vasovagal issues, I delayed LASIK for quite some time. After meeting with Dr. Herschel the first time, I k new I wanted him to perform the procedure. He meets with each patient personally, and tailors your procedure to your eyes. As someone who can also be a bit OCD, I was pleased by the level of detail he took, the time he spent explaining each portion of my eye and how it would impact the surgery, and even took digital pictures of my eye and eyelids to show me what he meant. The procedure itself was actually very simple and painless. The aftercare was great, and now, 9 months later, I'm still testing between 20/15 and 20/10. I interviewed several facilities, and Dr. Herschel really did stand out, both in his personal attention and in his simply being there to see me each visit. If you're reading this and have looked into other centers, you'll likely have experienced a consultation that included everything EXCEPT the doctor performing the surgery (because they were at a different office perhaps). Honestly the best doctor I've been to. Had my lasik treatment in Oct 2021 and have received nothing but great care and outstanding service from pre-consultation to almost one year post op. Dr.Herschel and his team take the time to get to know you as a patient and offer thorough assessments before, during and after the procedure. I learned more about my eye health in my initial consultation here, than I had from any other eye doctor I've been too (including other lasik eye doctors I was considering - which was concerning as my pre-op eye condition played a major role in my treatment plan). LASIK was a procedure that I wanted to get for a very long time because I felt like glasses were a huge burden. I was deciding between 3 different LASIK centers but ultimately decided on Herschel due to their glowing reviews on here. Let me tell you - it certainly lived up to the hype. Experience: -Pre Surgery First off I got a consultation which went well and had to do dry eye treatment - one of the drops they want you to take is fairly expensive but luckily they give you a decent amount of free samples to get started. This was about 3 weeks. I was then scheduled for surgery on 5/18/17 and I won't lie I had many second thoughts and was searching complications online etc, this is pretty normal to feel that way. The one thing that put me as ease is that Dr. Herschel has performed over 20,000 of these surgeries and to me I can't imagine you could mess something up after that many times. -During and directly after The surgery itself was a fascinating experience and for me it took about 15-20 minutes. Afterwords my eyes were in pain and as soon as I got home I fell asleep for 4 hours and had absolutely no pain. The next day I scored 20/20 and they had also correct a slight astigmatism I had. My eyes were very dry for the next 2-3 weeks and thereafter felt normal. After about a month or so all light sensitivity, glare, starbursts, and halos disappeared from lights - initially I was worried that this was permanent but your eyes need some time to fully heal. -Staff & Facility Overall the staff is very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed all my interactions with the staff and their professionalism. I recently needed to fill out a LASIK waiver and they were very prompt and helpful with all the documentation I needed despite how annoying I likely was. This definitely took them to the next level especially because I was a post-op client. The facility is very nice but its dark - this is because many people are getting their eyes dilated for exams. I HIGHLY recommend you go here for your surgery, I also received a decent discount for paying cash/credit and not financing - unclear if this offer is still around. Almost a year later my eyes are only dry if I have excessive screen time and my last eye exam I scored 20/15 on both eyes. My only complaint: sometimes at the checkups you may end up waiting much longer than you expected but such is to be expected from a place with high demand. I went to Herschel Lasik for a free consultation and immediately noticed the difference of this office. The staff was all friendly and knowledgable. Dr. Herschel answered all of my questions, and we scheduled my procedure! The procedure took maybe 10 minutes, and I got some meds to help with anxiety. I was sent home to nap, and when I woke up, I could see! I was shocked! I was driving the next day. I did my LASIK procedure in June 2018. Procedure was uneventful. I couldn't believe how clear I saw the following day as the day of the procedure, your eyes are swollen and very teary. As time went by, my left eye was 20/20 and right eye 20/30. Prior to my procedure, my lenses prescription was -3.75 left eye and -4.25 right eye. I had retreatment for my right eye Feb 2019 and can see closer to 20/15. Staff is wonderful, professional and welcoming. Dr Herschel is also professional, caring about his work and approachable. The team at Herschel Lasik is incredible! I had my corrective surgery just 5 days ago and tested 20/15 this morning. Dr. Herschel saw my eyes were dry during my first consultation (from wearing contacts for years) and put me on a dry eye treatment for a couple weeks which made a huge difference. I went into surgery with the healthiest eyes possible and already feel like my eyes are healed (I drove at night & in the rain just two days later and could see perfectly.) Where to begin.. I am a Commercial Pilot and I was referred to Dr. Herschel by one of my colleagues who had nothing but great things to say about her experience with Herschel Lasik. I was glad to have her recommendation, because I searched the Central Florida area tirelessly to find the right doctor that I felt comfortable with and I just wasn't having that feeling with the other doctors that I met with. Most of the places felt like Lasik factories where you were just part of an assembly line. You will know just by walking into Herschel Lasik, that you are going to receive a much more personal experience. Also knowing that I would need the Federal Aviation Administration to sign off on the procedure before I would be allow to return to the cockpit, made my decision that much more important. I needed a doctor I knew I could work with. Just as I am sure you are nervous, I was too. I watched countless youtube videos of the Lasik procedure and that was almost enough to make me not want to do it. Try not to waste your time freaking out, because there is nothing to freakout about. Dr. Herschel and his staff did a superb job explaining the entire process to me before and even during the procedure so I knew exactly what to expect at all times. There were no surprises. I consider myself somewhat of a special case, which is why I feel the absolute need to write this review. I had really bad vision before getting Lasik and lets just say that I wore my contacts much longer than I should have. My eyes just weren't in great shape. Where most offices would just have you pull your number in the assembly line, Dr. Herschel didn't do that. He wanted to make sure we had my eyes in good health before doing the procedure. This assured that my recovery was painless. Healthy eyes = great recovery! Dr. Herschel has your best interest in mind first and foremost, unlike some of the other places around town that just want your money. There really isn't anything to the procedure so I will leave that part up to the professionals to explain to you, but here is why I really recommend Doctor Herschel. It was after I recovered from my procedure I was going back for periodic check-ups when Dr. Herschel noticed that my eyes were getting very bloodshot. He assured me that my eyes were fine, but he was concerned that I had an underlying health condition that were making my eyes turn red. He put me in contact with a very well known Rheumatologist in the Orlando area and told me that I might be suffering from some type of autoimmune disorder. Wouldn't you know it, the stars all started to align and I began connecting the dots. I was hospitalized a few months after my lasik procedure with a viral infection and the virus literally crippled me. I eventually recovered (so I thought), but I was having trouble getting approval from the FAA to let me fly again after being hospitalized from the virus. My rheumatologist found that my body was suffering from pretty severe Rheumatoid Arthritis and Ankylosing Spondilitis. This sounds horrible, but honestly it was music to my ears! With the right treatment from my rheumatologist, my pain subsided and wouldn't you know it, the redness in my eyes began to go away. So it goes without saying that I owe it to Dr. Herschel, not only for giving me the great gift of ditching my glasses and contacts after 16 years, but because of him I was able to get to the bottom of a very serious condition that was literally ruining my career and quality of life. After having been out of work for almost a year, I am happy to say that I am returning skyward as of tomorrow. This time with a new pair of eyes and I can't wait! Dr. Herschel has impeccable bedside manner. He is meticulous and will delay your procedure to ensure that your eyes are healthy enough to recover from surgery. As a contact wearer for 20 years my eyes were in bad shape and not very healthy. Dr. Herschel put me on a 2 week program to get my eyes on good shape for the LASIK procedure. As a result my recovery time was about 24-48 hours. I had no glare or haziness and my night vision is perfect. Unlike other places, this is HIS practice and is not just a doctor mill that has doctors in and out one day to the next who don't have to care about reputation. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this office. I was initially very anxious about having surgery on my eyes, but Dr. Herschel and the team were outstanding. They answered all of my questions and helped to ease my fears. Dr. Herschel is a perfectionist! He took close-up photos of my eyes to explain certain anatomical features. I was placed on eye drops prior to my treatment to help decrease likeliness of dry eyes after the surgery. I even returned to the office several times before my surgery to ensure that I was consistently getting the same results when "reading the eye test". The surgery was also easier than I expected. I have had a great experience using Dr. Herschel's services. I am very picky about cosmetic procedures and always choose individual, established doctors over spas. I did a ton of research. I initially chose Dr. Herschel because I wanted to get PRK laer eye surgery, which not many doctors offer anymore. I drove from Sarasota to Orlando to visit this office. I ended up lost (thanks a lot, Google Maps!), and an hour late, which they were kind enough to still see me. Once I met the staff and the doctor, I felt very comfortable with them. I was not going to shop around once I had found a good doctor. I actually decided to go with all-laser lasik after a thorough discussion, weighing my drive time and follow-up care, along with healing time. Throughout my numerous visits, I have never been kept waiting very long, whether I show up early or slightly running behind (it is hard to time exactly when driving 2-2.5 hours each way, driving through theme-park traffic and rush hour, no less). the follow-up care has been great and I would recommend this doctor and staff to anyone, including my mother. :) read more
